Recently rewatched all of Spectacular with my GF who'd never seen it. She absolutely hated me when we got to the last episode. She was just like "How could you show me something *this* good if you know it'll never get a real ending?" So yeah, it *still* hurts, even when you already know it's coming.
My girlfriend was the exact same way. She actually cried and we held off the last episode for a few days because she wanted to rewatch the entire second season again.
All it missed was just a few more seasons and sprinkles of crossovers that were just spread out far enough with each other that makes you still remember that this is a Spider-Man Cartoon.
Man I really wanted to see how the show would've done the Fantastic Four. That and Greg Weisman's idea for Uncle Ben having fought alongside Captain America in WWII were the hugest and saddest unrealized plot threads that could've really given weight to Spidey's support circle
Although the quantity and quality of Marvel animated projects may not be comparable to those of DC, I will always have a place in my heart for the animated series of the 2000s like Spectacular, EMH, and Woverine and the X-Men. You can feel that there was a thought behind all those shows, which were unfortunately canceled one by one.
I’ve always loved the art style for this show and it’s actually a big reason to why this show is one of my favourites. I honestly didn’t really know a lot of others didn’t like it
@@thecookj454 stylization and to emphasize emotion with a simple yet gorgeous art style. Ben 10 OV did it and it made for some highly expressive character just through the face alone, same with Spectacular Spider-Man.
I think they chose Galloway's specific art style because it helps give away those early Spidey comic vibes, dame with the plain colors, doesn't it remind you of the 60s Ditko/Romita sr. era? I don't know but it give away a vintage vibe I can't no longer see with 70s artists like Gil Kane or Andru
Given your history being tired of Spider-Man content, regardless of any obligation to this series, I actually sincerely appreciate you making this and very much looking forward to seeing it.
The superb writing makes it feel real. This series feels as if Spider-Man could exist in real life. A large portion of this is due to the central character of Peter Parker. His interactions with friends and relationships at Midtown High School ground him to a sense of reality.
"relatable doesn't mean he's a self-insert devoid of personality it just means he deals with everyday conflicts that feel like something your average person would encounter and struggle with. being a normal person isn't totally glamorous, and sometimes it sucks." isekai anime has a real problem with understanding this when it comes to the main character
@@raditzhoneyham I am talking about comics Miles The only good versión of him is the Spiderverse and i even don't find that relatable like Peter I mean, not because of his race, mostly because in my eyes he haven't feel the real pain that is being Spiderman and himself at the same time Like, yeah, Miles lost his father and his uncle is a supervillain by being Spiderman But man, Peter has been through hell for years and he is still using HIS mask, lost his uncle, girlfriend, was buried alive for two weeks, was posseded by an alien parasity that was turning him in a freak, the clone saga, sins of the past, one more day, etc...... I feel empathy towars Peter and i want him to succed in life, and i am a mixed Colombian 19 years old boy While Miles.........he's cool and.......that's about him
@@mateoreyes6921 for miles to be relatable his life doesnt have to be so harsh. He's relatable because he has human problems just like peter. Not always the exact same problems but problems nonetheless. i dont want to write a whole paragraph of examples right now but i think the best way to sum up his characterization is: peter got his powers and he later learned he needed to have the responsibility to use them miles on the other hand was bombarded with responsibility before he learned any of his powers and now he's trying to live up to his responsibility i think its a nice way of giving miles his own unique story beats.Miles is what MCU spiderman is trying to be for the most part (until the ending parts of NWH)
Whoever were the writers and animators of this show; I want to give them all a round of applause, I finally watched it for the first time on Netflix, and I couldn't love it more.
Two quick things: 1) on the topic of Josh Keaton's voice acting career, it's really cool that wise men or someone else in the know brought him on to play the villain black spider on young justice. Very fun IYKYK stuff there. 2) there's a fantastic piece of fanfiction called Fighting Crime, Spinning Webs that continues the story after the cancellation of SSM and goes on to incorporate pretty much the entire Marvel universe into the story. The characterization for most of them comes from the other Yost-verse shows but include a lot of nods to both classic continuity and different adaptations, as well.
Xavier finally said what I been saying about Gwen’s character for years. People that claim to like Gwen only liked her because of this show and the amazing movies.
But that's the thing about the character, she is a tragic love in Peter's story. One of the only characters in comics to stay dead, and from there her death became part of the Mythos. This seried updates and toys with the Spider-Man Mythos, so it was the right call to give so much setup to the epic and tragic love story of Peter and Gwen. The one thing that actually could be bad about the show is that the creators confirmed that they didn't had plans to kill Gwen, but Peter would end up with MJ anyways, to me that would be a HUGE mistake.
Nothing wrong with that. I'm still hung up on Felicia/black cat as a love interest because of how perfect she was as partner material in the 90s Spiderman TAS. When I got older and read more comics and their history and how she's portrayed in almost every other adaption I realized they make for a rather toxic relationship elsewhere. I still want Felicia and Peter to end up together though (literally the only reason I bought Spiderman web of shadows originally was for the symbiote black cat ending... now that was a guilty pleasure). Similar to how I still want Bruce and Diana to end up together from the DCAU even though in virtually all other media their personalities don't have the chemistry they did from that animated universe.
In the comics, Electro has an inferiority complex due to him feeling like a nobody, particularly by his family that even when he gets his godlike power, he still doesn’t feel worthy enough so that’s what motivates him to get more power or doing some of the crazy stuff he’s been notable for. That’s why it made sense why they made Jamie Foxx the outcast nerd that wanted to be noticed.
It's refreshing hearing someone talk about what this show actually accomplished, like the 90s show and alleged censorship, it feels like all anyone talks about when it comes to this show is how it was unjustly cancelled rather than what it did well and why that cancellation was a shame to begin with
I feel like the push to bring this series back may be somewhat based on what happened to Young Justice. Another well received comic book show, made by Greg Weisman that was canceled for stupid reason after two seasons. That series was brought back for HBO Max so some hold out hope for Spectacular to also come back.
Thing is YJ has no legal problems and isn't stuck in limbo between two entirely different studios like SpecSpidey is. WB entirely owns Young Justice, but Sony owns SpecSpidey despite relinquishing the rights to produce future televised animated content under 45 min to Marvel
@@icedcapplord710 under 45 minutes you say? In theory then the show can be continued in the form of straight to video movies or extremely long episodes
@@anrick1362 yeah, but I don’t think Sony would ever let Disney touch this masterpiece. And will never let them touch it since we’re getting freshman year instead. But here’s to hoping for a cameo from this spidey in across or beyond the spiderverse.
He was in my first comic book, I wish he'd been used more in Spidey media. I'm pretty interested in how he's used in the Avengers game, even if that game is pretty poor
@SpiderManFan9000 ppl hate on andrew even tho he’s pretty much exactly like spectacular spidey or ultimate spidey in the comics. he’s got a chip on his shoulder, but for some reason ppl weren’t ready to accept it
@SpiderManFan9000 well, i am that kinda guy. Andrew's Spider-Man is narcissist, and all that narrative that he is not a normal kid and he is destined for greatest things because he is the special one in those movies, is suck for me. i can't like those movies. Spectacular Spider-Man is a really good adaptation of this character, but i really don't think so about TASM's Spider-Man. i just like Andrew's one in No Way Home, his character is completely different that was showed in TASM franchise and i really enjoed him
@@okayokayfr I think it might have something to do with the god awful writing and direction of those movies. Andrew’s Peter is a legitimately terrible person due to unintentionally horrible character work lmao.
12:33 While I do see where you are coming from, Electro do have a relatable "personality" that is often forgotten about. Electro might be one of my favorite S-M villains and that is because he started of as a regular nobody who suffered from low self-esteem. He always denied other ambitions because he didn't think he was smart enough. That all changed when he got his powers. Just like Peter, his powers made him more confident. As Electro, he set up to prove himself as a somebody. Unfortunately that part of the character often gets forgotten about which is ashame
Yeah that's his main character, he's a nobody wanting to be a somebody. That's been consistent with his character throughout the multiverse. Spectacular Electro is a bit different as he just want to go back to normal just like moltan man. Thing about him in the comics is that he gets a huge push but then fall off for years at a time. The latest push he got resulted in a new girl becoming electro
@@wickedchild8501 I’m thinking about writing a Spider-Man movie script with electro as the villain, it’d essentially be about the parallels of Peter and Max, showing them both being young men going through a tough time in their lives. The difference would come with how they handle their grief and how they learn from their experiences.
This series is what made me fall in love with Spider-Man. The concept of Spider-Man, his ideals and what he stands for, the recurring characters that appear across the different iterations, this series is what made me a spidey fan and what made me appreciate all the different aspects of spidey’s universe. I just wanna appreciate that this show had a good run and was even made in the first place, this show is great.
That kind of reminds me that in the Neutral Spanish dub of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Peter was voiced the same VA who dubbed Andrew Garfield as Peter in all of his appearances, and recently he dubbed Josh Keaton as Agent Spider in Invincible As a side note, Peter in Spectacular was dubbed by Luis Daniel Ramirez, who voiced Tobey McGuire as Peter in the Raimi movies and also in the New Animated Series, though he's caught up in a lot of controversy in recent years and he has been banned from all dubbing studios, he didn't even voice Peter in No Way Home, in his place the VA who dubbed Spiderman in the Insomniac game did
This is the first show i fell in love with when I was a kid. This was the definitive version of Spider-Man in any type of media. I have recently re-read the classic comic books and then rewatched this series and it shows that the writers of this shows know there stuff and it sucks that we will never get this quality of Spider-Man ever again unless the bring this show back and they need to.
This show is the quintessential Spider-Man. It's basically everything people love about the character and more. If only it got the support it deserves when it first aired, then it would have been even greater than it already is.
For the Electro talk, I do like his design in this show a lot. Though he's not very deep compared to Venom, Green Goblin, Doc Ock, etc. He's one of those tough guy villains who shows up to mess things up. A villain roster should have a few of those playing around.
@@difference3maker36 yeah the show truly had so much potential they should continue it as a comic like what dc did with Smallville then they could even do big and better ideas they couldn’t do on a kids show maybe even have king pin like they planned before they had to changed him to tombstone
The darkest part for the Green Goblin and the Gobulin Green chemical is that Harry passed out when Norman got home in costume BROKE his own son's leg and put the costume on him
I didn’t realize the Hulk Vs. cartoon was intended to be in the same universe as EMH and Wolverine & the X-Men. That’s pretty neat. Ultimate Alliance and Hulk Vs. were my introduction to Deadpool.
I’ve always wanted to see a Spider-Man series where Mr. Sinister is behind the creation of Spider-Man enemies as a way to test him much like a scientific study.
I haven’t had the chance to watch this show or many others like BTAS, Batman Beyond, STAS and OG Teen Titans, but from what I had watched as a kid I realize that the early and late 2000’s for animated superhero media was on another level of quality. Shows like Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice and movies like The Hulk vs short films, Ultimate Avengers and Batman Under the Redhood have so much passion and effort behind them. They are the reason why I got into liking so many iconic heroes and villains I wouldn’t know otherwise if I didn’t watch these shows and movies. They’re still some of my favorite pieces of media as an adult and it’s just so depressing looking back because it’s so hard now to find quality and passionate superhero media that was so commonly found just over a decade ago.
@Alexander Capanov I was fortunate enough to watch Spider-Man TAS when I was 5, TNAS when I was 13 and Spectacular Spider-Man when I was in my late teenage years, hell even Ultimate Spider-Man had something to be entrolled about, at least in the lore. I pity the kids who know Spider-Man from the cartoon such as Marvel's Spider-Man ( 2017).
This and Insomniac's version of Peter Parker are my top favorites for versions of the character outside comics Really the only downside to this show is the fact it was never allowed to complete its story. It was a perfect medium between the stories and tone of the early Lee/Ditko/Romita Sr. stories and the modern aesthetics of the Ultimate universe, and did so many storylines justice, even incorporating arcs I never thought would be suitable for the age range it targeted like Harry Osborn's substance abuse. If it was able to properly tie up its loose ends with characters like Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Hydro-Man etc. It might've been absolutely definitive in my eyes Really hoping Freshman Year makes good on what it promises because it sounds on paper like the spiritual successor to SpecSpidey we need
Sean Galloway is an artist that breaks the mold with how fresh and clean his style is. Truly a master in character design using the least amount of lines possible to convey incredibly dynamic movement and expression
actually, max in spectacular was just a guy who had things he planned to do, also note he's in his early 20's, making him a young man/later-turned villain.then when he misplaces a tool near a broken electrical equipment, it shocks him, and mutates him into a being of electricity.he can't do things anymore, that he wanted cause of the accident, and it causes him to go to the dark side.
I was a little kid in the late 80s, watching reruns of the 60s Spider-Man show. I was 10 in 94, watching the Animated Series. I was 25 in 2009 when this show premiered. Let me tell you, younger folk who may have been like 7 or 9 when this show aired. If you're worried it's rose-colored glasses giving you nostalgia for this series, I can assure you it is not the case. Spectacular Spider-Man is actually that dang good.
I still see this show as the pinnacle of Spidey media & it's hard to let go of something so godly (especially when nothing comparable has existed since😔....) It's very far-fetched, but my hope is that one day I could potentially make a show that emulates what this video & others highlight as the strongest parts of its narrative & structure bc it really nails the story it got to tell for only being 26 episodes.
Electro’s powers are so awesome and visually stunning that I guess the early comics writers felt like they didn’t really need to develop his personality too much. Though I do remember him being fairly similar to his MCU counterpart. A blow hard obsessed with obtaining more power, be that electrical or criminal.
After getting to watch this, I was actually at a con I can’t remember which one because I go to a pretty large amount of shows each year due to family ties and occupation but I actually got to see Josh Keaton at a show and I must of caught him at a good time because no one was really around him when we got to talk. I asked all about this show and he didn’t say much about anything this video didn’t cover but it’s great to actually hear everything you talked about come from the actually VA of Spider-Man.
Steve Blum is to the green goblin what mark hamill is to the joker and I’m really hoping he voices green goblin in either marvels Spider-Man 2 or another sequel down the road
@@jadenbryant9283 I mean he voiced the character in marvel ultimate alliance 3 along with yuri Lowenthal as Spider-Man and William saylers as doc ock who voiced said characters in Spider-Man ps4
oh man, that bit where you show other spiderman series makes me appreciate unlimited even more, say whatever you want about how bananas the story was, and how carnage looks like that 200 year old monk, but man the style and light rendering on that shows was ahead of it's time, such a visual stunner
I personally have the mindset of nothing is turkey perfect, and by understanding that and using it to always improve and get better, that is what makes something turkey perfect. In other words, ones perfection is in their imperfections.
This series was one of the only ones that made me care about Peter’s civilian classmates. Like I WANT to see Flash, Liz, and the rest and how they interact with Peter and each other. The kids outright annoy me In subsequent adaptations like the past couple of cartoons and the MCU.
the reason they gave for Walter Hardy's sloppiness in the show is that he's older than he used to be and caused him to be slower and more cautious. not the best reason I know, but still
23:49 To this day I’m still pissed at how the MCU did Montana dirty in Homecoming. My favorite version of the Shocker vaporized and they don’t even treat it seriously
It’s a small thing but I do really love the idea of different genres of bad guys As you mentioned with Batman For Batman you have 4 waves of villains 1- the old crime bosses like Falcone and Maroni 2- you have new crime bosses like Black Mask and Penguin, corporate business men like Simon Stagg and smaller criminals like Catwoman 3- then you have the freaks like the Joker, Clayface and Man-Bat 4- Supervillains like Bane 4- you have supervillains like Bane, Deathstroke and all the aliens that Batman’s faced
This was SO worth the wait! This might be my favorite Spider-Man related video from you since the one you did for the insomniac game. Great work Xavier!
6:30 If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, but I believe Stan even said that's partially what made Spiderman so popular when he first came out- he was so relatable to many of the younger readers, cause he went through many of the everyday issues they go through as well.
always wanted to see heroes like luke cage and daredevil make an appearance in the series, it would have been cool to see him have daredevil kinda as a father or older brother figure.
Just imagine if we got the adaptation of the clone saga. Josh would voice the OG Peter while Yuri Lowenthal would voice Ben Reilly (One of the clones). It would've really been awesome, just imagine two of Spidey's best and definitive voices sharing a screen together. My mind would literally explode. Hell, throw in Christopher Daniel Barnes (the voice of 90s Spidey) as the darker clone Kaine. It would have really been interesting.
I finally watched the show earlier this year and almost immediately understood why so many loved this show, it's amazing and I can't think of a single thing I *hate* about it, besides of course the fact it never finished.
You’re right that we should just accept that it probably won’t come back, but damn it, this show was my childhood. It’s just too good to forget about! The voice acting, the modern style that isn’t trying too hard, the influences from the movies and comics, everything is great imo.Besides the Raimi movies, this is what introduced me to comics and superheroes as a whole. I’ll always appreciate it and it deserved much better. Great video as always man, cheers.
The Spectacular Spider-Man is an outstanding example of serialized storytelling in North American animation. But, as good as it was, I feel the best we’ve gotten, so far, is the TMNT series, by Mirage Studios, which ran from 2003-2006. It ran 117 episodes and leaned much harder into serialized storytelling. It didn’t matter if it was a major character, supporting character or recurring character. They all had growth. Not one of them ended up the same way they started out. In my opinion, this take on TMNT is the one to beat.
Great video! I’m biased because it was my introduction to Spidey but I really think this show was so special and will probably never be replicated or replaced. One of my-time favourite cartoon series ever. I’m still excited for everything else though!
I wish this show continued because I legit still have this on DVD and was so disappointed that it was cancelled and kind of pissed that it was somewhat done for Ultimate Spider-Man
Season 1 is basically perfection. It’s the most consistent interpretation imo and my third favourite adaptation of the character ever after Tobey (excluding SM3) and 1994 Spidey.
What’s wrong w spider-man 3? If it’s because of peter’s emo phase, then I guess you forgot about the symbiote in the 1994 series (shocker! I’ll chase you til the end of the world!!!”)
@@kevinskywalker5539 ?? I think Spider-man 3 is awesome! My comment was referring to the original comment, who seemed to have a negative bias towards SM3
I’ll mention this about your Electro talk. Recently, they made Electro a woman who was originally Max’s girlfriend and due to clone shenanigans, she got electric powers. She’s not a really developed character but she’s got that working class supervillain type character that works. Plus, during one storyline, she got recruited into an all-female Sinister Six and she was the best character because she got weirded out by Beetle over how she tried to set her up with tax forms.
People trashed the art style? I thought it was so good. I think animation is at its best when it focuses on delivering unique art that can be well exploited for delivering high refresh rates and good animation without compromising visuals. I hate the insistence on realism. Why I love projects like Arcane and into the spider verse.
This is definitely the best animated incarnation of Spider-Man. That said, I remember watching this on CW 4 Kids back in the day when it was still new. And I remember being kind of mad at the black suit in the show at first because it looked a lot closer to how it did in Spider-Man 3. But, the way they have it slowly mutate into the more traditional black symbiote suit over the course of a few episodes was a brilliant way to subvert my expectations. Damn I miss this show!
I actually loved this shows lizard and Electro, I think I used to have action figures of them but of course me being a kid had played with them only for lizards tail and electros head to be missing. Also my dog chewed on Doctor Octavious tentacles!
Every time I see/hear the scene where Spider-Man speaks while his tongue is burned makes me laugh out loud. It's so hilarious and the voice acting is so good.
I'm pretty stoked Spectacular has been confirmed for Across The Spider-Verse Part 1. I know he won't get a lot of screen time, but it'll be fun to see him again.
I'll always remember this show for the fact that it made me, a life-long fan of Spider-Man, actually unable to guess who the Green Goblin was. They set that up perfectly, and I'll never forget how screwed up it was to see Norman Osborn breaking his own son's leg to frame him.
Spectacular might be the only Spider-Man adaptation that made me care so much about his personal life that his superhero life actually felt like an interruption and a nuisance - like it actually is to him - rather than the part we all just want to skip to. Loved the show, still miss it.
I remember the cartoon, in my dub, each and every single voice had the va's of the spiderman movie trilogy, like, even the secondary characters! (Except Harry, for some reason, I guess the va of the movie Harry sounded way too old for his age, then) And I think that was amazing, because it felt like watching an alternative version of the movie :)
Honestly I think this Spiderman if at least for me the most balanced version and giving an overall vibe of what I think people always get when they think of the Web-head. Also his humor always comes off as him coping to the idea he won't be able to fully enjoy it even if he made that choice too.
Few years ? I am watching it every year. Everytime a new movie/Tv series/game comes out, i watch it. Even now after the Spidey lotus news and spider-man 4 rumours came out, i feel like watching it. Damn, i am halfway through season 2 already. Thats how much i love this show. Josh keaton is my Spider-man !
The best thing they did with Venom. Was Making Eddie and Peter close friends at the start. Peter’s actions end up destroying that friendship and creating his own worst enemy. I’m convinced in season 3 when Carnage was to be introduced the two would finally start to make amends
I did asked Keith David last year at LA Comic Con about his role in The Spectacular Spider-Man, and yeah totally didn't know what I was talking about, and it made me felt dumb that day. Was cool to meet him and Josh Keaton the same day.
I will not lie, on a recent series rewatch I genuinely thought Tombstone was still voiced by Keith David after the first episode. I had no clue they switched voice actors. And I would know what Keith David sounds like, I’m a huge Halo fan.
While Yuri Lowenthal is my personal favorite Spider-Man, Josh Keaton might be the most enjoyable in my opinion when he gives lines like “Oh I got the thing on the thing, wha-what do I win?” “You!” “I win me? That makes no sense” or things like his Spider-Man Memes videos that still get a laugh out of me
I love this cartoon I have the entire series on dvd josh Keaton is one of my favourite adaptations of Spider-Man And I honestly like how this show handled the uncle Ben killer story more than Spider-Man 3 mainly because it didn’t retcon anything no I didn’t like how they handled the uncle Ben killer story in Spider-Man 3. sandman already had a great backstory stealing money to save sick and dying daughter they didn’t need to make him uncle bens killer on top of that
Making sandman uncle bens killer was a horrible choice. It removed Peter's direct responsibility for his uncle's death. Instead of a single selfish choice causing his uncle's death it becomes more just random chance. Additionally it removes Peter's guilt over being responsible for his uncle's death in a bug way and the movie doesn't contend with that in any way. The heartfelt scene in spider-man 2 where he tells aunt may the truth is rendered meaningless. I understand that rhey wanted to give sandman A personal connection to Peter but the solution should have been to have sandman accidentally hurt aunt may. That would have worked so much better than what we got.
@@galactic85 , your not getting it. There's lessons in the rami trilogy. The first is about responsibility. The second is about trying to find a way to balance both Peter's life and spider-man saving lives. The 3rd is about forgiveness.
Didn't they retcon Uncle Ben's killer into Black Cat's dad? Are y'all wearing nostalgia goggles for a Weisman show again? Because that's what gave us the last few seasons of Young Justice, which were a trainwreck.
Ok but come on, you can’t tell me Doc Ock and Electro did not have a Jesse and Walter White esque relationship. I thought their dynamic as villains was pretty cute
@@meci6625 I used the word 'underated' in reference to the producers who had such a cash cow of a show that they got cancelled. It wasn't meant to demean it.
I love this series because it made Mysterio SO quotable!! From all of his "spells" being in Latin to my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE new catch phrase: "Demitasse, Spider-Man?" Also, I learned what a demitasse was thanks to this series!
Before we got the news about the 90s X-Men show coming back yeah I'd be right there with ya on moving on. But nah now that there's interest shown in bringing these back, and seeing how it happened with young justice as well, this show deserves to continue especially since it did seem like one with a solid outline for where they wanted to take it.
I actually liked the take that Felicia's dad was Uncle Ben's killer. It struck me as someone who was past his prime now suffering for his life choices, while giving Peter something to struggle with: forgiving him. In the Raimi films he simply let go of his hate for Sandman by the end but it's all sorts of clear he resents him by the end of the episode leaving room for interesting ideas to play out! THAT SAID I could be misremembering since it has been a while since I've seen the show, for all I know it does clash as much as you said Xavier, either way I'm just glad we got this video to highlight how spectacular this show truly was.
Dude, hands down agree with everything you said! The simplistic style really does lend itself well to give us such fluid animation and top tier Spider-Fighting choreography. And it's juxtaposed well with the complex storytelling and fleshed out characters. The last decade has generally been kind of a waste ever since the buyout, cancellations and restructuring for all animated properties. Also, gotta say, the Sin-Eater bit using Beavis and Butt-Head audio just slayed me! 🤣
Spectacular Spider-Man is one of the best animated series ever made by marvel back then. It had such good potential until Disney bought the company and suddenly cancelled it.
19:06 holy shit I’ve been watching this show since I was a kid and I’ve seen the pilot episode a million times and I NEVER knew Robert Englund played the vulture! That’s so fucking sick my god! Genius casting it all makes sense now
I always felt that Electro's strength as a character is his one deminsionality. I mean his power could essentially rival Magneto's and allow him to become a god and rule the world, but this power ended up in the hands of a blue collar average joe who doesn't have the imagination for these powers beyond putting on a goofy costume and robbing a bank. A prime example of Stan Lee's iconic sense of humor.
Loved this show when I finally saw it. put it off for ages because it wasn't 'my Spider-man' from the 90s. I like a lot of people, was initially put off by the animation. It handles the action so well. It's yet another fantastic Spider-man adaptation, in certain aspects the best. Us Spider-man fans have been so lucky. I've also been rewatching the 90s cartoon, while being dated is still a fun watch.

The superb writing makes it feel real. This series feels as if Spider-Man could exist in real life. A large portion of this is due to the central character of Peter Parker. His interactions with friends and relationships at Midtown High School ground him to a sense of reality.
"relatable doesn't mean he's a self-insert devoid of personality it just means he deals with everyday conflicts that feel like something your average person would encounter and struggle with. being a normal person isn't totally glamorous, and sometimes it sucks."

i dont want to write a whole paragraph of examples right now but i think the best way to sum up his characterization is:
peter got his powers and he later learned he needed to have the responsibility to use them
miles on the other hand was bombarded with responsibility before he learned any of his powers and now he's trying to live up to his responsibility
i think its a nice way of giving miles his own unique story beats.Miles is what MCU spiderman is trying to be for the most part (until the ending parts of NWH)

Whoever were the writers and animators of this show; I want to give them all a round of applause, I finally watched it for the first time on Netflix, and I couldn't love it more.
@Alexander Capanov Try 95% of the time.
Two quick things:
1) on the topic of Josh Keaton's voice acting career, it's really cool that wise men or someone else in the know brought him on to play the villain black spider on young justice.
Read that fanfic too and it's REALLY good IMO. Perhaps some of the things in that fic probably would have happened in the actual show had it gone on.
I caught that.
Link to the fic pls
Xavier finally said what I been saying about Gwen’s character for years. People that claim to like Gwen only liked her because of this show and the amazing movies.
Honestly, people who are devoted to Spider-Man would already know. Like before this show and the ASM movies, Gwen is only known for dying.
@Alexander Capanov That's what he's saying
they killed her off because she was so boring that they didn't wanna write her anymore lmao

Good Electros should basically be the anti Spider-Man: a young man that acquires great power and uses it totally selfishly.

@@wickedchild8501 I’m thinking about writing a Spider-Man movie script with electro as the villain, it’d essentially be about the parallels of Peter and Max, showing them both being young men going through a tough time in their lives. That kind of reminds me that in the Neutral Spanish dub of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Peter was voiced the same VA who dubbed Andrew Garfield as Peter in all of his appearances, and recently he dubbed Josh Keaton as Agent Spider in Invincible
As a side note, Peter in Spectacular was dubbed by Luis Daniel Ramirez, who voiced Tobey McGuire as Peter in the Raimi movies and also in the New Animated Series, though he's caught up in a lot of controversy in recent years and he has been banned from all dubbing studios, he didn't even voice Peter in No Way Home, in his place the VA who dubbed Spiderman in the Insomniac game did
This is the first show i fell in love with when I was a kid. This was the definitive version of Spider-Man in any type of media. I have recently re-read the classic comic books and then rewatched this series and it shows that the writers of this shows know there stuff and it sucks that we will never get this quality of Spider-Man ever again unless the bring this show back and they need to.

This and Insomniac's version of Peter Parker are my top favorites for versions of the character outside comics
Really the only downside to this show is the fact it was never allowed to complete its story. It might've been absolutely definitive in my eyes

It nailed the concept of Spider-Man

I'm pretty stoked Spectacular has been confirmed for Across The Spider-Verse Part 1. I know he won't get a lot of screen time, but it'll be fun to see him again.
Steve Blum is great as a voice actor, especially as the Green Goblin. I met him in Huntsville and he’s a great guy.
(Except Harry, for some reason, I guess the va of the movie Harry sounded way too old for his age, then)

And I honestly like how this show handled the uncle Ben killer story more than Spider-Man 3 mainly because it didn’t retcon anything no I didn’t like how they handled the uncle Ben killer story in Spider-Man 3. sandman already had a great backstory stealing money to save sick and dying daughter they didn’t need to make him uncle bens killer on top of that
Making sandman uncle bens killer was a horrible choice.

Are y'all wearing nostalgia goggles for a Weisman show again? Because that's what gave us the last few seasons of Young Justice, which were a trainwreck.
I swear Christopher Yost was such a blessing to Marvel, he was literally the Bruce Timm of Marvel
Ok but come on, you can’t tell me Doc Ock and Electro did not have a Jesse and Walter White esque relationship. I thought their dynamic as villains was pretty cute
This show was extremely underrated. Would have loved to see how the rest of the Marvel superheroes would be represented in this reality.
I wouldn’t call a massively beloved show underrated
I think you mean marvel superheros
@@mickeymouse7726 thanks👍
Literally everyone loves this show. Underrated is not the word my dude
@@meci6625 I used the word 'underated' in reference to the producers who had such a cash cow of a show that they got cancelled. It wasn't meant to demean it.
I love this series because it made Mysterio SO quotable!! From all of his "spells" being in Latin to my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE new catch phrase: "Demitasse, Spider-Man?"
Also, I learned what a demitasse was thanks to this series!
I feel like no matter what Disney or Sony puts to light, this will still be the best Spider-man story ever told
Finally someone who is talking about this show. This show deserves more seasons.
Well at least he’s in across the spider verse. That’s nice
One thing I like about this show is that only one person knows Spider-Man’s identity I don’t think any other Spider-Man has done that
19:06 holy shit I’ve been watching this show since I was a kid and I’ve seen the pilot episode a million times and I NEVER knew Robert Englund played the vulture! That’s so fucking sick my god! Genius casting it all makes sense now
it is so rare to find good MARVEL animated media nowadays... the 2000's got spoiled with so many good ones.
I just love that you use the Taxi Driver theme for Electro
