Hi Larry. I don't know any of these albums. For some reason I gave up on Steely Dan after "Aja" and gave up on REM after "Automatic for the People." I love Dylan but have always avoided "Self Portrait" due to its bad reputation. I thought I knew all the Beatles albums but hadn't heard of "Yellow Submarine." My daughter is a huge Lady GaGa fan so I asked her about the featured album. She said she likes it but not as much as some of her other albums.
If I had to add anything I would say I've been disappointed with most, but not all, Springsteen albums since "Tunnel of Love."

The CD re-issue of Yellow Submarine, which removes the orchestrated side and replaces with a pretty long list of great Beatles songs from that era - is a brilliant listen.

Very few albums I knew on this one Larry. I might try the No Doubt album as I always tend to enjoy their output. Great stuff! Dave

Wow! This is the first video that you posted that I can honestly say that I never heard a single one of these albums. It seems to be more hip hop and pop music than anything else, neither of which I have any interest in. I would post my disappointing albums, but I believe I already did on this page. Thanks for sharing, though!

Hi Larry , I just wanted to add something about Yellow Submarine . When I was a kid and didn't have any money . I remember my parents buying Let it Be & Yellow Submarine . We didn't have many records in those days . But I still remember listening to both Beatles albums over and over. But of course it was mostly just side 1 on Yellow Submarine , lol 😆 😆. Then it wasn't until the Red & Blue albums came out that me and my sister had more Beatles music to listen to. In 1973 I was just starting High School and I remember buying Band on the Run & Ringo with my own money . Still have them to this day . 🙂 Also picked up the White Album too .

I like Pablo Honey a lot. The critics have deemed it fashionable to dismiss this album for some reason though. I feel they started off strong and got even better later.

I never really considered Yellow Submarine an actual Beatles album, just the only way to hear 4 never released songs. The 1999 re released was what the original should have been.

You could put every Beach Boy album after 1977 when Mike Love and Al Jardine took over creative control from Brian. They still wanted him to write but they wanted him to write songs how they wanted them.

Yellow Submarine is a soundtrack album and a really good one at that. I love Hey Bulldog and It's All Too Much and George Martin's score is really good and fit the film. I never considered it a real Beatles' album. I really enjoyed Dylan's Self Portrait enough to by the deluxe boxset from his bootleg series.

Both Genesis & Van Halen tried to have a go with a 3rd lead singer & both failed miserably. Poor Lou Reed is associated with 2 of the most derided albums ever Lulu & of course Metal Machine Music.

I had Pablo Honey before the Bends came out, and I really do like it, even now, not just Creep. Weird thing is somehow my pandora channel ended up fixating on one Radiohead song and playing it at least once every time I listened. Lurgee. Not a bad song, but just a weird choice.

There Should Be Unicorns on Oczy Mlody is a brilliant song as well. They’ve released a lot of patchy stuff over the years but I don’t get that shout.

'Pablo Honey' is a mostly forgettable album.
I actually enjoyed 'Human after all' by Daft Punk but most fans would probably call it the weakest of their albums.
I remember being quite bored by R.E.M's 'Around the Sun', too.

  • @leproghead

How is it possible for a debut album to be disappointing? And who thinks that? The buyers of Radiohead's first demo?

  • @jameswilson7084
    @jameswilson7084 8 місяців тому +2

No Doubt's "Push And Shove" was a comeback/ reunion album for No Doubt. And it was horribly disappointing for me. I liked two singles off the album, and that's it. A huge drop in quality from their earlier albums. It sounds like it was rushed to be ready for their reunion tour. Track for track, "0304" is probably my favorite Jewel album. But, it's different from her earlier work. Very "poppy", and some tracks sound like Fleetwood Mac a little.

Two Against Nature won the Grammy for best album - so it did pretty well. I bought Around The Sun when it was released in 2004, it is the weakest R.E.M album.

Two Against Nature wasn't a bad album, just kind of uneven. Van Halen's album with Gary Cherone just wasn't a good idea. His voice with that band just never meshed. It was like an Extreme album as played by Eddie, Alex and Mike from Van Halen.

Todd Rundgren - Healing. Three years after the tour de force that was Hermit Of Mink Hollow, this was the best he could do?
King Crimson - Earthbound. Badly recorded excerpts from their 1971 USA tour, often just extended jams with improvised lyrics.
Caravan - The Album. Embarrassingly inept. Thankfully the follow-up Back To Front, which reunited all four original band members, turned out to be one of their best.

I like Pablo Honey, used to have it on CD, as far as Van Halen goes first three I like and I like the first two that had Sammy Hagar on them. Steely Dan I do like, but never got into Two Against Nature, and never was much of a Michael Jackson fan even when I was young.

Around the Sun by REM is kinda borning and my least favorite album. Reputation by Taylor Swift is actually pretty good! Yellow Submarine is my least favorite Beatles album but I still love it.

  • @mrlalalaelmo7454
    @mrlalalaelmo7454 8 місяців тому +1

While all these picks have correctly captured the general sentiments, I think most of these albums are considered “bad” largely because they sounded different from the same old (i.e. oddities). Case in point - Bob Dylan’s Self Portrait, which certainly sounds more like a demo album but I think it is a nice departure from his increasingly formulaic stuff. Sometimes, it is the oddities that I am more drawn towards (especially where i am not a big fan of that artist’s typical sound).
Ummagumma should have been on the list.

Pablo Honey is arguably a good album by Radiohead, but it has definitely aged poorly considering the musical direction the band took afterwards. I like it, but it's my least favorite.

Pablo Honey is a good debut in my opinion. Not one of my favourite Radiohead albums but still really enjoyable. I also think that R.E.M.'s Around the Sun is a decent album too 👍xx.

I don't love the production on Taylor Swift's "Reputation", it's my second-least favorite album of hers, after her debut. But, there's still many great songs on the album. It was a slight disappointment for me, but I still played it a lot, upon its release. Younger fans tend to like this album more.

Waiting for the Sun. Barely a note on it. Radiohead, even their name bothers me. Yeah, I heard PiL before back in '81. I like Taylor Swift's voice but the idea of hearing an album of her tearing her exes apart again and again is not my idea of a good time☮️😴

Completely and utterly disagree. He was a visionary in the late 90s and early 00s. As well as his own work, he produced SO many bangers for other artists.
I don’t care much for his recent work or his public image nowadays, but to say he was never a great artist is just ridiculous. The guy has (or at least had) more creative talent in his little finger than you have in your whole body…

I bought nearly all of the Beatles albums back in the vinyl days but had no interest in acquiring Yellow Submarine. Then when the big Beatles CD boxes came out, I finally heard it and considered the only good thing on it (aside from the retreads) to be "Hey Bulldog." Incidentally I was reminded of it when I listened to Days of Future Passed for the first time this week. I know you're a Moody Blues fan, Larry, but that album is just so weird, whether it's being evaluated as a rock album, a classical album, an easy listening album or a pop album. I consulted the notes to see if George Martin had done the orchestrations and found that he had no connection to it.
Also, I find the Yellow Submarine movie disappointing. I can't understand any of the dialogue through all the thick accents and garbled soundtrack. I'll have to watch it with the subtitles on next time. I'm probably missing some clever dialogue.
As for Jewel, I think that she's incredibly hot and has a beautiful voice. I don't know any of her albums but she's on my to-listen-to list.
