Full disclosure here: I turned 12 in 1972, but didn't have much rock albums then. It wasn't until later that I got some of the albums that came out in that year, like: Honky Chateau - Elton John Eat a Peach - Allman Bros. You Don't Mess Around with Jim - Jim Croce Can't Buy a Thrill - Steely Dan Catch Bull at Four - Cat Stevens Vokume 4 - Black Sabbath Caravanserai - Santana Those were just some of what came out that year. Even though I didn't own any of them then, thanks to older brothers of friends and album rock radio, I did get to hear them and a lot of other great stuff from that time, and I still love those albums.
Seargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band was released when I was 12, but I was still listening to The Beach Boys, The 4 Seasons, and The Everly Brothers! That would changed by the time I was 13!❤❤❤
Hi Larry. Cool thread going around. Three Dog Night, The Guess Who and CCR were favorites of mine when I was 12 in 1969. Nice response to MGK Boston's thread.
When I was twelve in 1967 Larry I was still getting my head around the Beatles Sgt.Pepper album, the album was great for sure but it seemed to me like the mop top Beatles I loved were gone, strange stuff by my favorite band and there was also some new guy out there who played guitar with his teeth!,some guy named Jimi Hendrix and he was absolutely incredible!,wow!,and yes it's getting psychedelic and yes we all want peace and yes we just found out the Monkees don't play on their records, wow!,my God what's going on in this crazy world! Bob
I wish I could join in, Larry, but I was 12 in 1962 when my only music connection was listening to my elder brother's single and EP collection. - Elvis, Lonnie Donegan, and Slim Whitman were among his favourites. Anyway, some great albums among your 12 year old collection.
When I was 12-13 would be 77-78 Gotta love Columbia House 😁 Elton John- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road KISS-Dressed To Kill KISS- Alive! KISS- Destroyer KISS- Rock And Roll Over KISS- Love Gun KISS- Alive II Aerosmith- Get Your Wings Aerosmith- Toys In The Attic Aerosmith- Rocks Boston- S/T Ted Nugent- S/T Ted Nugent- Free For All Ted Nugent- Cat Scratch Fever ZZ Top- Tres Hombres ZZ Top- Fandango Kansas- Leftoverture Kansas- Point of Know Return Styx- The Grand Illusion Styx- Pieces of Eight R.E.O. Speedwagon- Live Bob Seger- Live Bullet Bob Seger- Night Moves Rush- 2112 Rush- All The World’s A Stage Rush- A Farewell To Kings
I wasn't even born yet when all those albums you chose came out. I also didn't have older brothers introducing me to new music, I'm the oldest. Most of the music I grew up on came from my dad from his 50s and 60s oldies. There was very little I could get from other stations on the radio. My grandparents had old country vinyl LPs, but I hated those. When I was 12, I didn't have a chance to get into any of the great music coming out at the time and 'my personal' taste in music had not yet matured. I wouldn't be able to make a list like this, because honestly I felt I was behind the times and didn't find my own real musical freedom and identity until a couple years later at the age of 15. There was my uncle too. He was another major influence on my passion for music. And lets not forget, it was around the age of 15 when I started religiously watching MUCH MUSIC. That changed everything!
Here are five from when I was 12 that I remember enjoying. #1 was the only album I think I actually owned at the time though. 1981 1 Tattoo You, The Rolling Stones (not sure what happened to my cassette though) 2 Moving Pictures, Rush (my brother had it and played it all the time) 3 Fire of Unknown Origin, BOC (I must have seen Burning For You a thousand times on MTV) 4 Bella Donna, Stevie Nicks (this album got a ton of radio play back then) 5 Ghost In The Machine, The Police (couple of my friends had the cassette, so I heard it a lot)
Keith Richards' debut solo album "Talk is Cheap" was released when I was 12 yrs old. Bought the CD in '94, a pretty amazing LP. I'd like to see a segment on solo efforts by musicians from famous bands, if you haven't done one already. Thanx
It was 1980 when I was 12, and two of my favorites from that year were The River by BrucecSpringsteen and Back in Black by AC DC. My favorite of your list is Paranoid
I was 12 in 1968, and I wasn't into rock music at the time, or music for that matter as in collecting as I began 3 years later. But for 1968 here are a few in no special order: The Beatles: "self-titled double album" (The White Album); Grateful Dead: Anthem Of The Sun; The Temptations: Wish It Would Rain; Moody Blues: ...Lost Chord; 2001 A Space Odyssey Soundtrack; Walter> Wendy Carlos: Switched On Bach; George Harrison: Wonderwall Music (Hindustani Classical Music/Psychedelic Music)
I was born in 1970 👍🏽 Best album you showed is Paranoid. I love Led Zeppelin II, Plastic Ono Band, All Things Must Pass and The Rolling Stones one. The Soft Parade and Live at Leeds are ok. The rest I don’t know. When I was that age I had a small cassette player so I made a lot of cassettes from albums we had, from friends or from the radio. Albums I had when I was 12 or 13 that were released at that time were: 1. 10 to 1 - Midnight Oil (vinyl - I got it for Christmas 1983) 2. War - U2 (taped from friend) 3. Let’s Dance - David Bowie (my sister’s but I taped it) 4. Thriller - Michael Jackson (vinyl - present from my sister. It was ok but not the kind of music I was into). 5. Colour by Numbers - Culture Club (vinyl - present from another sister - I was so embarrassed - kept it a secret from my friends - played it and thought it wasn’t too bad) I liked Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden which I taped from my friend’s brother but I think that was when I was 14.
20's twice as good. British Spy agent came out of freeze, goes to Vegas, plays his Byrds' disc on his 45 player-uh, oops. Thanks, Larry, you have s great day as well!
I was 12 in 76 Im not going to BS anyone I was listening to the singles charts , I was 12 goddamn it Only Albums i recall from older sibling ELO ; New World Record Abba. :Arrival my sister played it non stop Jean Michel Jarre.: My oldest brother and idol to this day The Album with the skull , no idea of the name
I’ve got a fair bit from 1970 but only Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath of the ones you mentioned. The GFR live no doubt kicks ass! The Guess Who I have only two compilations - one of their popular stuff from around 1968 onwards and one of their earlier stuff. Cool, though. I’m amazed you can talk about 20 albums in under ten minutes. I’d only get the first one done by the ten-minute mark.
I don't know that many albums from 2013 as I mainly listen to music from the ‘60s to the 2000s. Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories is the only album I've heard from that year, and it's a great album.

Lots of great albums released in 1970!. 2008 was the year that I turned 12, not quite as good as 1970 in terms of music released! 🤣👍xx.
This doesn’t work for me: was 12 in 1963! Albums? Bought Meet The Beatles the next year.
By the way, Larry is Don the middle child?🤔
2 older sisters, one who has passed, then Bob, Don and me. They are 6 and 5 years older than me.
