This was such a simple and clear presentation! You're a natural at teaching. Thanks so much for taking the time to record and upload this. It helps a lot!
Thank you for these simple videos. Now you've helped me realize I needed steering fluid (and add some to stop the awful sounds it was making), and change the oil myself on my 2000 Odyssey. Both were a breeze after watching and getting the necessary materials. Next going to do transmission fluid and air filters.
Good video, but he left out the important last steps: On level ground, after running the engine, check for oil leaks around the filter and drain plug. Then pull the the dip stick, wipe it off, reinsert, and check the level. You will need to add more oil, since the filter takes about half a quart.
This oil change is on a 2000 Odyssey. Not sure what oil is recommended, but my '02 manual recommends 5W-20, not 5W-30. Just FYI. And yes, oil does drain better when hot. No, you are not dry starting your engine if you don't fill the filter. Can't even tell you how many cars you wouldn't even be able to do that with because the filter is not vertical with the opening on top.
I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey. It does say 5W-30 on the filler cap. Honda changed to 5W-20 in 2002. The Honda dealership said I could run 5W-20 oil with no problem. My gas mileage improved with the 5W-20 oil.
What ramps are these? I looked at the typical Rhino Ramps and they get awful reviews. I like the simplicity, but I really don't feel like being a permanent addition to my driveway.
Dude..You have to fill the filter with oil before you put it on. Otherwise your doing a dry start (no oil at first). Is your motor going to seize probably not but not a good habbit to fall into.
Don't ever use plastic ramps. just google that and you'll see failures of those rhino ramps collapsing. if you rather not die, use jack stands and also place wood cribbing or solid wood pieces under the tires should the stands fail. also put jack at the lift point incase of failure too, do not put pressure on the jack, the stands should take most of the weight, the jack is only in case of failure. also put your tire under both sides in case
If they're hollow can you just put some wood into them as a backup? Looks like they're not necessary. I've read that you can just turn the wheels hard-right and get under with it on normal ground. Much safer.
@@gblargg good luck you can do it, it's better than going to Walmart or jiffy lube because they can strip your oil bolt plus they use cheap oil and filters so you can save the money that you would have given them to buy Walmart synthetic oil the ones in the blue bottle that are like $12 a gallon those are probably as good as the mobile one synthetic oil or close enough. I splurge for the $15 mobile one one year oil filters though
@@eksine Oil change was a breeze, and my first time doing anything like this on a car. I did it in the driveway, car slightly pointing up incline. Car had been sitting all night, didn't warm it up before oil change either, figured all oil would have drained from engine already. Wheels hard right made filter easy to get to. Cardboard under car. I used the FloTool Less Mess drain pan, long, stiff, lots of room after draining oil. Got an OEM filter for $8 from Honda dealership. Pennzoil full-synthetic high mileage 5 qt from Walmart. Pre-filled filter with oil as another video said to do, to avoid delay in oil when engine starts. Made sure the old drain plug crush washer came off before putting new one on (aluminum, came with filter from Honda). No torque wrench, just hand-tightened. Left cardboard under car tonight to check for any drips next day. Definitely going to do transmission fluid next, along with engine and cabin air filters.
My oil-change : Part A. (1) Drain old oil, at least 15 min till it stops dripping. (2) Plug it back. (3) Fill w 1 qt 5W10 or any thin oil and half qt of ATF Dexron 5 or 7. (4) Idle for 5 min. (5) Drain that for 15 min. Part B..(6) Remove the old filter now. (7) Clean the housing w rag and remove any build-up from the base-rim. (8) Install new filter. (9) Final fill ...3 qts of 20W50 and two qts of SAE 40. I have done this on old Fords, Mazda, Peugeot, Subaru, Nissan 300ZX, Audi 5000S.COMPRESSION

Thanks bro, 1st oil change and i didnt wanna go searching for filter! Btw, hot oil DRAINS BETTER!!
You make it seem easy and simple, can you do a video on how to change the brakes?
Great job but one thing, it’s a good idea to check the oil level when the vehicle is flat on the floor and off the ramp, peace and God bless
Thanks for Mr.Excel
I got the same car.
I will try your way.
God Bless you & your family.
Great video. Good quality and easy to follow! Thanks you.
Glad you liked it!
Nice vid. Very helpful. what brand socket wrench do you use. I need to get one like that.
You should ALWAYS drain the oil when hot!
False
Thank you for your help. It is easy now
Pls incorporate cleaning of air filters in between change oil as part of the process. Thanks
Thank you and a God Bless
Didn't say what size socket to use.
It’s a 17MM.
What size socket wrench did you use to get the drain plug off?
whole reason i watched, and didnt tell us
+Matthew Guzek. turns out to be a 17mm
At 2:21 it clearly says 17mm.
i know right?

can you put the size of the drain plug in the discreption?? i always forget the size i need.
Do you use synthetic oil or conventional oil?
That's conventional oil he's using.
you shoud definitely add some oil to the filter before installing filter. This is very good practice

William Owens how would I fill my oil filter on my 2007 Tacoma? The filter is vertical on top. You don't need to.
you did 2 things wrong. you are supposed to do it when the oil is warm second you have to wipe off the dip stick and test it a couple of times

Your oil change makes no sense. No need to put ATF in your engine and the drain it out. You must be joking, I hope.

I'd be extremely wary of running a 5-qt engine with just 1 qt of oil.
