    This was the best demonstration I've seen on spooling a spinning reel. The fluorescent cord demonstration of tying a knot was extremely helpful. As a beginner I really appreciate this video.

    i like alberto knots for mono to braid, braid to fluro. monos only for the braid to dig into. Covering the spool is plenty I've learned throughout the years.

    I have an electric line spooler that allows me to remove the spool and put the line on it with no twist at all. One thing that I have learned, especially on my small diameter spools, is when you cast...say 100', you can have up to 250-300 twists between the spool and the end of the line. When you lift the lure out of the water between casts, several twists come out. After a hand-full of casts that first 100' off the reel ends up twisted back onto the reel...especially after your first line break.

      Just pull your line out till the backlash comes out lmao then hold the line and reel it back in slowly and if there’s knots just pull them out pulling out a backlash is simple

    Good information just want to add a side note If you stop reeling when filling up your spool and the line twisted turn the spool over this should take the twist out

    I use 10lb braid & you will wind knots.
    I try to cast easy but sometimes you just get wind knots & good luck getting it out with 10lb braid, 20lb is ok. But I can cast further using 10lb.
    Love the double Uni Knot for connecting braid to mono or flourocarbon.
    Caught many bullreds here on the SE TX Coast without breaking a 10lb braid to 20lb flouro leader.

    All line in the plastic spool floats. Take your sink and fill it halfway with water, toss it in, works perfectly. If you're at the lake and got a net toss it in the net so it doesn't float away, it will do that.....

    I'm a total novice, looking to do this for the first time. If we're never likely to see the mono or whatever it was he tied to the spool, what's the point of doing it at all? Why not just have the braid all the way to the spool?

      Casting reels excel in some areas that's for sure, but if you're bank fishing, a spinning reel can do it all. Master it first, casting overhead, casting from each side, and learning to make small accurate pitches.
      I found fishing towards the shore that I see a bigger benefit of using a baitcaster, as it helps me pin point my casts near targets better. Specifically the casting towards the bank or a dock.

    some where in the process of attaching the line to the reel you miss the day they taight this. You dont need the mono if you just put the electrical tape on the spool. you dont need electrical tape if the reel is braid ready, there is a rubber band built into the spool.

  • @packet-burner
    @packet-burner 3 роки тому

    New to fishing here. Any reason you use mono before the braid? Any cons to just having braid all the way until you have your mono / fluoro leader?

    • @williamjenkins806
      @williamjenkins806 2 роки тому +2

      Some people use the mono as a base layer (filler) to give the braid something to “bite” down into to prevent the braid from spinning on the reel. Plus, good braid can be expensive, and depending on your spool diameter having that cheaper mono as your base will help save you some money in the long run. I can’t think of any cons per say, just make sure you’re using a good ratio of braid to leader line diameter. I generally stick to a 2:1 ration… So, if I’m wanting to use a 12lbs leader, I typical pair that with a 25-30lbs braid main. Hope that helps!

    What is the purpose of the mono base? I have never used a base and never had any issues with my lines. Just curious.

    • @iowa.angler
      @iowa.angler 3 роки тому

      If you tie braid straight to the reel, it will slip because there is no stretch in braid. Mono stretches and kind of binds to the spool much better.
      On the business side of things, mono is very cheap and fills a portion of the reel that will never be seen, or you hope it won't haha.
      -IA

    • @AllanO808
      @AllanO808 2 роки тому

      Also the braid tends to be very tight and cause damage to the spool, mono base gives a better cushion for it.

    Another tip is to have the label facing upward, as the line makers all put the label on the same side. This will also help with the line memory.
    Otherwise the only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the electrical tape, obviously you'll never see it till you put on more line.

    • @verynearlypure
      @verynearlypure 3 роки тому

      I’ve seen you post multiple times and you seem to know your stuff. So a clockwise spinning reel (facing the front) should be fed by the fill spool with the line coming off the same direction (clockwise)? I’ve searched the internet and keep seeing conflicting reports, seems to be a trend with fishing. I am a very green angler and tried 15lb braid on my spinner but failed due to line slippage. I watched several videos that tied straight braid using electric tape around the spool as well. I also fed it from the spool like you would a bait caster. The reel casted great, but the drag was very screwy. Not sure if my reel just doesn’t like straight braid or if I didn’t apply enough tension. I took the line off and am contemplating going to a tackle shop or buying one of those fancy line tensioners devices. Life of hard knocks is the best teacher but learning about tackle is tricky on your own.

    Only spinning reel question I have.. Why whenever I see someone using a spinning reel on youtube videos is their drag so loose. Ive used spinning reels all my life as my primary reel. I just started using bait casters last year. Ive never had my drag set so loose that it clinks as I set the hook.

    • @iowa.angler
      @iowa.angler 3 роки тому

      It all depends on how big the hooks you're using are, strong the line is, and to avoid horsing around a fish.
      I use a Ned Rig quite often and if the drag is too tight, I'll bend my hooks out.
      Just takes a little bit of time to tire out the fish but keeps my gear nice and lands more fish.

Jon should show us how read a fish finder and how to break down maps of big lakes. I feel like Peric knows a lot about how weather conditions play into the bite and how to adapt to it. Flair can’t fish. Rob needs to start a Googan firearms channel. LoJo, 1rod and everyone else just keep doing you’re thing. Also why isn’t Nick from 618 in the squad??????!!!!!!!
