    (Brake Rotor Babble Info)
    I recently ordered a front Bucklos 203mm "Floating" brake rotor & mounting bracket for $35 total. They look really nice & do stop WAY better than my old 160mm rotor. But turns out, they're not actually real floating rotors, so they don't have the benefits of real floating rotors. They have the 2 piece steel/aluminum design & are riveted together but don't actually float. Which is stupid because it'd only take slightly more effort to make them true floating rotors. Had I known that, I would have saved 10 or $15 & bought the 1 piece all steel rotor.
    I haven't actually compared a 203mm fake floating rotor against a 203mm 1 non floating rotor. But I'm pretty sure the non floating rotor will have the same stopping power. So for the extra $10 or $15, all you're getting is better looks.
    IDK, it's possible that since the fake floating rotor has the aluminum, more flexible inner piece. It might stop a bit better because it allows the disc to flex sideways more allowing both pads to grab it more evenly.

    • @MotoredLife
      @MotoredLife  2 роки тому

      What is the benefits of a floating rotor? Do you know of cheap hydraulic sets?

    • @michaelbrinks8089
      @michaelbrinks8089 2 роки тому

      @@MotoredLife On a motorcycle, a floating rotor has some side to side wiggle/play so both brake pads grab evenly at the same time VS the pads grabbing uneven & making the whole rotor flex sideways and/or having one pad do say 70% of the stopping work while the pad on the other side is only doing 30%. Floating rotor also keeps your pads from rubbing/wearing away while the wheel is spinning. On a motorcycle you can tell the stopping difference between floating & fixed rotors but probably not so much on a bike.
      The cable actuated hydraulic calipers on a motorized bike would be really nice. That way you could have F&R hydraulic calipers connected to 1 dual pull brake lever. I just seen a set for $45, which doesn't seem too bad. On a bicycle I don't think 203mm true floating rotors VS 203mm fixed would make a big difference. But would keep the pads from rubbing away while riding.
      I was just kinda bummed I got a set of counterfeit floating rotors lol. I'm glad they do stop much better than the 160mm. I don't wanna hassle with a refund & reorder to save $15 after spending the time to install them.
      I really need to get a decent MTN bike helmet or full face BMX/MTN bike helmet.
      Just watched a video of a guy going 50 on a minarelli build get very lucky when his chain snapped/locked up the back wheel & he was able to skid to a stop. Why do I type so damn much ?lol

My dream motorized bike build, if I had the money would be a beefed up steel full suspension frame similar to his, beefed up 27.5 or 29in wheels two 203mm floating disc rotors & some cable hydraulic calipers. With a 52mm or larger 2 stroke ua-cam.com/video/uQ30Ni2eKoM/v-deo.html One of these days I'm gonna take a couple steel 26in full suspesion frames I have laying around, cut em up, re-weld & make a full suspension motorized bike frame. @@MotoredLife I noticed your full face helmet at 3:00 You should think about buying a pair of motorcycle riding gloves. The 2 best pieces of riding protection are a helmet & gloves. Since people instinctively put their hands out to stop their fall. Riding gloves (if made correctly) & don't feel bulky & make using the throttle & brake levers difficult.
      There's a night & day difference between the way a pair of regular gloves & properly made motorcycle gloves feel when you're trying to use the brakes & throttle. Regular gloves feel bulky, sorta like you're trying to grab the clutch & throttle with a pair of boxing gloves VS motorcycle gloves.
      The pair I bought a few years back were Firstgear band for $25. I noticed some of the cheap bottom end $15 China riding gloves suck & fit like regular gloves. I bought a pair of $15 winter motorcycle gloves that sadly fit like a regular pair of winter gloves.
