    The fact that some buffaloes saw the lions take one of their own, ran away and returned with the herd tells me their communication is more advanced than we give it credit for.

      If they were smart enough they wouldn't run in the first place. They would just create a shield around them.
      It's 3,4, 5, 10 (?) lions vs how many...200 buffalos? A lion can't take a buffalo alone, yet 200 buffalos are afraid of 5 lions?
      Herbivores are so, so dumb.

    • @MastroOfficial

      @Drew Jackson Yes. They are much smarter and much better at communicating than us humans. That is pretty evident considering my comment here...

    I have so much more respect for them seeing how they were scared off but came back many times for one of their own. Might just be me but loyalty is so important in my eyes.

    • @mkilpatr03
      @mkilpatr03 3 роки тому +14

      Well............ it's kind of meaningless to attribute human virtues or failings (loyalty, cowardice etc) to animals. They have evolved to exhibit behaviour that maximises their chance of surviving. For buffalo, using their size and number to chase lions away does that. I know you weren't commenting on lions, but for lions, running away from a herd of aggressive buffalo also does that, with the proviso that they have to kill eventually to eat. As the video shows, for buffalo they do that by isolating a weaker/smaller individual, then try to kill it before the others chase them off.
      It's a stunning video, anyway.

Humans are animals after all and all our traits are evolved from lower animals so yes animals can be fearful and overcome their fear (bravery) like many buffalos who approached the lions knowing the danger but went anyways. Now adding a rational thinking component to reflect on that behavior is a different story.

The fact that they all came back to save one of their own shows the love and care they have for one another. @Smoke Stack That’s such a stupid idea. The vast majority of animal species’ individuals care for the members of their group, the exception to this norm is of animals who don’t. If you actually think you can reduce animal behaviour to some sort of individual automatism you’ll be shocked when you find out all (literally) of our biological senses and emotions, those of communion/community included (like empathy, or courage, even virtue) come from them. We are animals, and there’s no reason to completely delink ourselves from this fact, or to blatantly classify all other animal species as equally stupid. There’s clearly a lot of knowledge on animal behaviour and biology you have to look into. There is no “easy answer”, read a book.

    El león atrapando a tres búfalos en el valle es realmente un espectáculo fascinante y emocionante. Desde la fiereza de un león hasta la fuerza y resistencia de un búfalo. Fue asombroso presenciar la acción de depredadores y presas y ver el poder puro de la naturaleza en exhibición. Sin embargo, también es un recordatorio aleccionador de las duras realidades de la supervivencia en el reino animal.

    Running fast is actually a buffalo's most vulnerable moment. If evolution later drives the buffalo to form a larger group and stay still/walk slowly while forming a circle to defend themselves, with occasional charging by the large bulls, the lions will easily give up on them.

    • @samo6083
      @samo6083 3 роки тому +4

      Lions seem to be really bad with dealing with resistance from herds.
      Wild dogs are amazing at this and will keep a few dogs out the hunt to keep watch for hyenas to hold them off or to keep watch for the resistance of a herd of buffalo.
      With buffalo they immediately stop their resistance. The trick is to push them back quickly before they gain too much confidence because as you can see it takes time for them to realise they have the advantage.
      For this reason i stated I've basically never seen wild dogs lose a kill from a herd of buffalo coming back. Lions seem to be very dumb in this regard as when the herd is brave enough lions don't try and push them away...

    • @An_Actual_Rat
      @An_Actual_Rat 3 роки тому +1

      @@samo6083 On a geological level lions are very recent so I'd wager that the typical avoidance of direct confrontation outside of territorial disputes inherent in all usually solitary cats is still around and kicking, just like most large animals still feel the need to flee like their smaller ancestors.

    • @samo6083
      @samo6083 3 роки тому +1

      @@An_Actual_Rat No I'm not saying wild dogs look for confrontation and lions don't.
      I'm saying wild dogs are ready for it with a few dogs stationed for this exact purpose but lions are not.
      I've never seen wild dogs be pushed off by a herd of buffalo after a kill but it happens all the time with lions

    • @An_Actual_Rat
      @An_Actual_Rat 3 роки тому +2

      @@samo6083 I'm not saying dogs look for a confrontation either.
      What I'm trying to say that the necessary behaviors have not evolved in lions yet.
      Social behavior is such a recent adaption for lions that the behavior of living in prides is entirely dependent on population and location.
      Past populations and subspecies show evidence vast differences in social cohesion.
      Pack behavior is a super advanced trait and the ability to co-operate is a very rare and derived trait.
      Canines are very social on a baseline level, all species living today has had a lot of time to evolve careful planning behavior and co-operation, lions have barely moved away from the concept of being a self-sufficient lone hunter.
      Maybe one day lions will have more advanced hunting strategies, or they will simply coast along on their current trajectory.
