I am very sad to see all of those comments saying: "its pointless"; "we have printers"; "a waste of time" ... people don't get the point. You see, in some sense, everything you do in your life is pointless because you're going to die anyways... right? No. Things dont have to have a point. They can be enjoyable. Or entertaining. Or challenging. Or simply fun. Why do you play games? Do they help you to survive? Of course not. They give you a challenge. Like drawing a photorealistic image. And, trust me, this is a challenge that, if you overcome it, can be very satisfying and give you a feeling that nothing else can. So think twice before you type something, that doesen't belong under a such beautiful peace of art.
+FalkFilmTutorials Thank you! It never would have entered my mind to say something like this is a waste of time! How can someone using their amazing talents to create something beautiful be a waste? People are nuts!
+FalkFilmTutorials He is clearly a very good draughtsman, though I'd like to see what he can do without a photo to guide him. The real question however, is why would someone spend 100 hours making a copy of a pre-existing photo, when it has no creative value and also probably has no market value? Is it just to show off what he can do? Don't get me wrong, it's very impressive and I couldn't do it myself even if I had the patience to spend 100+ hours on a copy work. I just don't see why this genre of art exists - it'd be different if he were drawing from life since that requires knowledge of anatomy and perspective, but with a photo all that work is already done for you.
+Auriflamme "all of that work is already done for you" FROM A PHOTO, REALLY? how is it already done for you when he used a pencil to make a piece of paper come alive! And yes, maybe he did it so he would get attention, that is what the guy needs! He spends hours creating life on a piece of paper that did NOT come out of his printer, it came from his hand that held the pencil! I know a guy that started doing this kind of art in his thirties, now his work is in one of the most prestigious galleries in the country, he has had his work in magazines ! It is not about the money ! It is about the amazing skill! It is about the artistic ability!
Watch tutorials, learn new techniques, invest in some 'good' pencils and draw, draw, draw. When you're finished drawing, draw some more :) I do realistic portraits and it's just patience, practice and learning. Never give up if drawing like this is what you want to do :)...... Oh, and you will get better :)
I would buy it if I had the resource. My own opinion is this is real art , The skill, The effort & the ability to transfer onto paper what the eye can see has always fascinated me. I have neither the talent or eyes to accomplish anything near realism. thank you for sharing this with us
Scotty Mat Is it really art then, or simply the trained-ness of one's eyes and their ability to copy what they observe? Is that an art in its own right, or does art require some creative ingredient?
Johnathan Martin Surely the Art is in the ability and not all drawings are renditions of existing forms, many are stylised or constucts of the Artist at the time. My Mother passed away some 13 years ago and I have images in my mind of what I perceived she looked like. If I had the ability to draw these recalled images, How accurate a recreation would they be, wouldn't they carry all the traits I felt she had. In other words, The image I drew would be how I saw my mother, it wouldn't be the way anyone else saw her. so any reproduction would be unique, therefore as an individual piece I would say myself that it would be Art.
+Johnathan Martin There's more creative decisions going on during the process than might meet the eye. The creative decisions first begin with the choice of subject, of angel, contrast, shadow/lights, emotion, etc., then moves into each creative navigation, from freckle to freckle. Now, I'll agree that it's not the level of creation that surrealism is, which is why I like to combine both styles, but hyperrealism is a very respectable talent, much more so than 'splatter paintings'. IMHO
Its not about materials its all about dedication, a good reference picture, time, practice, and passion. Stop asking about pencils and papers and just work.. ..
And with time, practice and passion comes learning about what materials work best which is evident in this video! Why wouldn't anyone want to know the best materials? Why don't you just work with "pencils and papers" and then we'll see who will be looking for advice. A ridiculous comment.
The materials matter a great deal. Specifically charcoal. It's extremely hard to get this type of contrast with graphite pencils. The paper could be smooth Bristol. Doesn't seem to be a lot of tooth showing when he's applying texture
I've just tapped into photorealism, and trust me, the materials do matter, that's the grade of paper, whether it's graphite or charcoal, having access to a blending tool. Those really enhance your art
Do you have a favorite period? I'm one of those: "I like his early stuff" people so, North Star and Music In 12 Parts are my favorites. And I love Glassworks and The Photographer. I have a hard time with his symphonies. I don't know why. Maybe I'll appreciate them when I'm in my 60s.
Now THAT is bloody impressive! There are several videos on UA-cam with thumbnails showing a hyperrealistic drawing but the video itself is just a good drawing. It took three attempts to finally click on a video where the video content is exactly what is shown on the thumbnail. Amazing.
You're a truly amazing, gifted artist. It looks like a black and white photo. Especially how you can see details that looks like pores in the skin and veins at the side of his nose.
Absolutely stunning work - so much patience and hard work here - you have great comparison skills of; angles, sizes, tones and spaces. Thanks for sharing this wonderful work with us all.
How do you get the skin texture like that? Only a few artists that I have seen are able to do that like Ian Ingram. You are incredibly gifted my friend!
+Joel rivera I don't think this was him drawing it... I mean, the title says by Jang Sungjun, and if I were him I would put my youtube name as that. I think this was a video of another's drawing ;)
Fantastic! I especially love the detailed skin texturing, the wire frame glasses, the shading of the eyes. The lashes on his left eye and the tuft of whitish hair on his right sideburn are incredible. Were those etched? Beautifully done!!!
There is something about hyper realism that I completely envy. For some reason I can never get that level of realism in my work, but I'll keep trying. Excellent work!
This isnt all about the product that it becomes in the end. Its about the way leading to it. I just love when I see art like this, seeing it in real life always reminds me of the way it took to make it. Its incredible work and It just gives me chills if I see that face with all its emotions. Good Job man.
he draws it as far as his eyes can see. He pushes his boundaries thats the way to do it and you can tell the human potential as well as what others perceive as being truly hyper and accept is as real i got so much respect for this truly incredible bless you man!
Im a dotworker trying to figure hyperrealism, so i can feel the detail, reminded me of hours and hours on one little coordinate from the entire drawing for the sake of detail, so much respect, for the transfering technique, and the values and without overanalyzing, its a perfects bullseye.
Truly remarkable - the finished image has a mesmerizing quality to it. It's so much more than a hobby it's a vocation to reach that level of attention to detail, it transcends the medium of photography it becomes a work of art.
Wow, 100h that takes a lot of patience. How did you improve to see small brightness differens on skim for example. when i look at a picture, i can just barley see all the deatails, dont thinking how to bring them into my art. awsome really
I'm good with graphite. I'm too messy to do charcoal. Too impatient for hyper realism. But so very impressed with these works of great time investment and passion. They are up there with the awesome songwriters. Not all great artists make it big. Not all great artists really care. They invest their time wisely....creating absolute pieces for our ears, eyes and souls.
I prefer expressiveness in art, but I can still appreciate different kinds of work. As far as hyper-realism in drawing goes, this is probably the best I've ever seen! Your observation and execution are impeccable. I wouldn't say that this kind of art inspires me as much as intrigues me - which is still a good thing! Chuck Close would be extremely proud!! As far as not being able to sell this type of work - I completely disagree. When you're this good, there is a market and you will be paid well. I suspect the majority of galleries that sell the most these days are those which carry western art (as in cowboy, etc.) and those representing realists of varying degrees. With the right exposure, your work would sell EXTREMELY well. Thanks for the video!
You are a genius. I too like to create realistic portraits, my medium is etching in black granite, but now that I have seen your work, I will have to try harder. Thanks you for the inspiration. Keep up the exquisite work. Bravo

+FalkFilmTutorials well said, thank you

Wow, thats good. I'm going to retrete to a dark corner, cry for a little, and hopefully get better at drawing.

Rich W which type of pencils nd tools are best for making such realistic portrait
I'm crying in the retrete too sukolega
if I were an artist, i'd probably make the most impressive hyperrealistic drawing in the universe,
and screw up the signature
Hahahaha
Or you finish and people think you are b.sing them cuz you forgot to sign it.
It happens...

Brian Taylor, I was playing Devil's Advocate.

There are no words to express the level of awe I experienced watching this. Beyond incredible work.
Stupid videos gets millions views but this artifical things can not... why?!! That is AMAZING job! Love it!
This man can do something that i am sure that a few people can do. I am more than impressed!
This kind of artists encourages me to don't give up.

Even though I just watched the entire thing it's still unbelievable.
One of my all time favorite contemporary composers, excellent drawing

連毛孔. 細紋. 細毛. 都畫得那麼清晰. 不說的話. 還以為是照片呢 ! ( 有些照片甚至無法那麼清楚 ) 太厲害了 ! 👍👍

I am so touched by your artistic skill. The detail and beauty. Just so impressive.
You're a truly amazing, gifted artist. It looks like a black and white photo. Especially how you can see details that looks like pores in the skin and veins at the side of his nose.

+Joel rivera This isn´t his art. Check out his other videos, they are far from as good as this one.
+nawoosra Answer the question :)

Beautiful work. What kind of paper is lashing paper and where do you get it?
how much would one of those cost?
WOW!! Absolutely unbelievable

Jealousy. ._.
They thought the the wrinkle of the far left side looked to unrealistic.
Richie Rico they are just jealous coz they cant do something this AMAZINGLY PERFECT!!..like WOW 😲
Absolutely astounding.
Truly amazing. Philip Glass is a really interesting subject as well. I used to think photorealism was somewhat boring, but I really appreciate this.
So outrageous. It boggles my mind that people can do this.
An excelent drawing, congratulations
I almost can't believe it, but of course I'm sure it was hand-drawn. Perfect work! Actually the best I've seen so far. A job well done my friend.
your drawinfg is amazing
Still the best drawing I've seen
that's unbelievable.... brilliant
Equipment used??
That is crazy skill the artist has.
I don't know how but that is beyond impressive
So I'm just gonna go cry myself to sleep wake up and pray that I even scratch the surface of becoming as talented as that
Great Video! AMAZING talent.
bravo, il y a tellement de travail derrière se magnifique artiste.
This is amazing... I'm not even sure what to say...I'm very impressed.
