@@redhead2376 Did you ever hear their (original) version of "Love Hurts"? It took me a long time to realize that Nazareth was covering their song, it's so different.
That's most definitely a steel guitar guys 😂 good earand great expression i died for a bit. Great reaction as always. Also brad paisley Alison krauss whiskey lullaby
Yea true but I think they are different styles of emotion put into the music not saying hurt isn't touching though cause that song got me the first time
I myself loved Waylon and Willie and the gang. My late Mom really loved Waylon Jennings. I got tired of hearing her repeat herself when she would go on and on about Waylon. Mom passed away five years ago I was so proud when my son made them open the coffin up so he could put her favorite Waylon Jennings CD in her casket. I love and miss you Mom and I’d give anything to hear you talk about Waylon again.
Waylon was bass player for Buddy Holly & the Crickets. He went on the cold bus instead of the plane, the day the music died. You nailed it with the steel guitar. Good stuff guys.
He was supposed to go on the plane with Buddy Holly, but didn't he trade his seat with someone? The Big Bopper, perhaps? I can't remember for sure. I do remember reading that he had survivor's remorse for quite a while after the plane crashed.
Jo Babs yea he traded his seat off cause the big bobber was sick, he had so much guilt about the crash because before buddy holly left he joking told Waylon "I hope you freeze on the bus" and walking said "yea, well I hope your plane crashes" so he blamed himself for a long time
Due to competition from rock in the 1950's Nashville studios started sanitizing its recordings to insure record sales to suburban housewives or what have you. Writers were told what kind of lyrics they couldn't use and producers were mixing in string sections, background vocals etc without saying anything to the artists which pissed them off. This control became known as "the Nashville sound". Waylon Jennings hated it and fought it from the time he joined RCA in 1965 but really didn't know how to do it. In 72 he teamed up with lawyer Neil Reshen who helped him negotiate with RCA brass who gave in and let him have artistic control. This rocked the Nashville system and started what became known as the Outlaw Movement, country music without suits micromanaging the music. WJ became a "rock star" when he started doing things his way, including record breaking album sales and a $1000+/day cocaine habit.
Yes, I don't get tired of listening to his music. He was a Buddy Holly friend and protege. Was the substitute bass player on Buddy's last tour and sang lead in Buddy's place after the plane crash. Muhammed Ali was the godfather to his youngest son. Very interesting life.
The blind guy was Jeff Healy. When I was twelve yrs.old,my uncle was gone cutting pulp wood and aunt went 3 hrs. away to town.I got into their vinyl records and discovered Waylon as I smoked some of their weed that they hid in the gun cabinet so eight hours later,I knew every word of that album and have been a fan of Waylons every since.I am now fifty. While staying there that summer ,an native American/Vietnam vet named Jake taught me how to shoot guns and I also learned to drive a stick so I could drive to town and pick up my aunt and uncle if they drank to much at the bar. That summer I arrived in Daisy, Oklahoma a little boy but by the time I went back home,I was one self reliant tough ass young man that could hunt, drive and do things for myself. All boys should have an opportunity like that.

Yo. That is indeed a steel guitar aka pedal steel guitar. That there is the legendary Ralph Mooney who toured in Waylon's band for many years. He's also on most all the early classic Merle Haggard recordings. An all time great of the instrument. Famous blind country guy...Thumbs Carlisle...famous blues blind guitar on the lap guy: Jeff Healey.
There are pedals and also knee levers on them. They simply raise or lower the pitch of whatever strings they're set up with. There are many variations as players customize their own instruments. They also work a volume pedal. It's quite the juggling act when done well and very easy to do poorly ;) There are many variations on the instrument. Originally it's credited as a Hawaiian instrument which was basically a standard acoustic guitar with 6 strings tuned a certain way and played with a metal bar or knife as a slide. It's modern form started similar to what you see in the video but with no levers or pedals, just the volume pedal and bar. Now you see generally two neck pedal steels (each with it's own tuning and set of levers/pedals) with 10 strings each.
Guys, I see other comments on Waylon Jennings that they did not mentioned Waylon played with late Buddy Holly. Holly visited Jennings at where he worked at a local radio station when Waylon worked as a DJ. Waylon performed with Holly there. Holly asked Waylon to joined Holly on tour in 1959 especially the ill fated tour when Holly, Big Bopper, and young Ritchie Valens were killed in that plane crash in Iowa. Waylon was supposed to be on that plane, but he gave it up to JP Richardson (Big Bopper) like Valens were also suffering the flu. Through the years, Waylon felt guilty to be alive while Holly and others died in that crash.
I just found out why Waylon felt so guilty is that Buddy and he were joking prior hours before the crash: Buddy Holly to Waylon, "I hope bus freezes over!" laughing while Waylon came back a zinger, "I hope your plane crashes!" I think at that time it was funny, but weird because they were flying in terrible weather. Plus, Waylon's family tried to call him after they heard about the crash on the radio. He didn't know about it after someone informed him. Years up to his death in 2002, he felt responsible for untimely deaths of his friends especially his best friend, Buddy Holly.
Yeah I saw Jeff Healy years ago in concert years ago, opening for ZZ Top. He mostly played sitting, but on his last song, "See the Light" he moved all over the stage, even though he couldn't see! Great show.
Before rock and rollers trashing hotels, metal dudes busting instruments, and rappers singing about social injustice and being poor ...there was Waylon, Willie, Hank and Cash
I'm born 'n raised a metal head, but i sure do love me some old school country or blues. It's so honest and more often than not tells a story you can relate to in one way or another.
Yes, that's a steel guitar, played with a slide (the material of which can change the tone considerably). It's got a unique sound for sure. Great reaction. Also, Jeff Healey, most likely, on the blind singer/guitarist.
Holy shit I spit beer when you questioned whether or not the steel guitar was actually a steel guitar!!!! Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think the guy you’re thinking about may be Jeff Healey. Blind steel guitar player. Same guy from movie Roadhouse
Waylon was one of the outlaws of country music. He was friends with Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard etc. he was one of a kind and didn't care if the Nashville people were down with him or not. He was a true blue artist and didn't need a label to tell him what he could or couldn't do. He was his own person and you could take it or leave it. Love him! If you ever watched the Dukes of Hazard well then he was the narrator and the one who sang the on the opening of the show.
Love you guys. Had to back to this old reaction. I miss your content. Been a long time subscriber and Patreon, but your content has been so thin since your Black Sabbath marathon.
you two have always maintained musical integrity where it should be noted,,,thank you for allowing "culture" to exist in America..props where they deserve to be...I've been watching for years...this is my first comment..
This is another reason why the classic stuff is better than the current top 40 stuff pumped out...easy-going, a lot of soul, great lyrics that one person writes (instead of a consortium), great live vocals, great instrumentation, and no autotune.
This is not to say that there isn't great new music out there...you just gotta dig a little...or just listen to people like Ryan & George, and they'll turn you on to new shit. I got Jinjer, Lil Dicky, Big K.R.I.T., Jason Isbell, Sway In The Morning Freestyles, Gojira, Snow tha Product, and many more just from this station ALONE.
Hank 3 should be required listening. his grandpa is the king of country music (Hank Williams) and his dad (Hank Williams Jr) has quite the reputation himself. He does classic country, outlaw country, punk, rock, and just makes whatever music he feels like making. Hellbilly music is what he calls it. My personal favorites: Troopers Hollar, Hurtin for Certain, Mississippi mud, and country heros. I don't know, if the shoe fits, and 7 months 39 days are also really good. honestly you can just pick one at random and chances are it is a good one.
Nice reaction! The reason they were branded 'outlaw' country was because they couldn't break into the big record labels, which were very tightly controlled at the top It wasn't until the album 'The Outlaws' (featuring Waylon, his wife Jessi Colter, Willie Nelson, and Tompall Glaser) blew up that the record execs finally started signing those kinds of artists.
I had to disagree. Willie and Waylon were already pretty successful musicians. They were tired of the way Nashville was going and decided to do their own thing. They didn't brand themself Outlaws or anything like that. That came from a lady that wrote an article calling them the outlaw movement. In Waylon's don't y'all think this outlaw shit done got out of hand, he even has a verse that says "someone called us Outlaws in some old magazine". They just went against what Nashville was putting out at the time
Willie had sold a big album the year before, yes, but The Outlaws sold five million copies. It was the largest selling country album by far and opened the door for a ton of other artists. No one can deny the impact of the album, or the way that Waylon and Willie getting full control of their music would change Nashville.
Lonnie Harris I don't know where I sent the album wasn't a huge impact I do know that it was the first platinum album country had ever seen. I'm simply stating you said the reason they did what they did is because they couldn't get on major labels which is untrue. They were tired of that cookie cutter format that was coming out of Nashville and they wanted to sing what they wanted to sing
This Outlaw was tamed by Ms. Jesse Colter, his Outlaw wife, that loved him through addiction. Check out their song Storms Never Last... Their son is also in the music biz, Shooter Jennings. Thanks for this reaction. ❤
Aaron A. Foster that's what I was gonna say,if they ever seen Dukes or even heard the theme than they've heard Waylon. Good Ole Boys would've been a good song of his to do as well.
i was gonna mention that he penned the theme to that iconic tv series...(.mmmmm....Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke) as well :-0 he also did narrator duties on the series i do believe :-)
Same here - metal elitist, but these old-school country music guys are really something. The old-school blues guys are, too - I hope Lost in Vegas covers the blues soon! Like Howlin' Wolf, "Evil" or "Backdoor Man": ua-cam.com/video/mRlbgi82tss/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/pu-veSfZuEU/v-deo.html
How about another with Waylon along with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Krisofferson! They toured and recorded as "The Highway Men" The song Highwaymen is one of their best!
Ronnie Milsap is a legendary blind country/crossover artist who definitely deserves a listen for any of his dozens of hit songs like "It Was Almost Like A Song", "Smokey Mountain Rain", and "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World." It is quite possible that you have seen him play the pedal steel or lap steel, but he usually played the piano. However, one of the most famous blind musicians who played the guitar flat on his lap was Jeff Healey; if you listened to the radio at all in 1989, you had to have heard his song "Angel Eyes."
VogonPoet67 she’s good too. But can’t go wrong with Loretta Lynn. Or little Tegan Marie, a 14 year old who I swear sounds like she’ll be the next queen of country.
Daniel Wojciechowski He sure did. Waylon was also in a Big Bird movie that my children watched when they were little. Can’t remember the name. But it was about Big Bird getting lost. Lol I believe I remember Waylon making an appearance on Sesame Street. Guess he has a soft side to his outlaw reputation. 😉
Love y’alls channel!!! Can y’all react to some Diggin Up Bones by Randy Travis one of my favorites by him!! But I’m down for whatever y’all react to cause I’ll still watch it!!
That steel guitar in the video is a pedal steel guitar. They are on a stand and they have sustain pedals like a piano. A lap steel only has one fretboard and is played while it is laying on the players lap.
Lmfaooo The Real. Uncut. COCAINA !!! that whole Ryan and George discussing about the guitar interlude was too funny. The song itself sound actually pretty nice and the live performance is evidence of that and not many people could work a crowd like that and sound solid on stage. This video was really entertaining and I thought it was a cool real country jam man so shoutout to Waylon Jennings and top notch video Lost In Vegas.
The Gambler by Kenny Rogers Curtis Loew by Lynyrd Skynyrd Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Williams Jr Blue by Leann Rimes Crazy by Patsy Cline Just a few suggestions.
I remember when I was in Chandler Arizona and when I stood there looking into his casket I got to say my good bye 's it was the roughest thing I still cope with everyday , ,I miss him always I enjoyed spending time with him
watch a stevie ray vaughan live performance. maybe texas flood, life without you, or tin pan alley(with johnny copeland). u will be shocked at his guitar playing skills.
Outlaw country...hot damn💕💕💕! Other outlaw country artists David Allen Coe, Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels. Here are a few recommendations: Kenny Wayne Shepherd “ Blue on Black, Dorothy “ Raise Hell”, David Allen Coe “ you never even called me by my name”
but it's got to be the original recording of Blue On Black, they remastered it with additional keys and I'm not as big of fan of that version because they took out some of the solo.
The blind guy you were thinking of is Jeff Healey. Stevie Ray Vaughn said that was the only guitarist he was ever intimidated by and they even did some concerts together. Dude was absolutely incredible and highly underated
Love Waylon Jennings, great choice fellas! Lap Steel is kind of a staple in country music but not all artists or bands had one. If done properly it adds so much depth to a song.
Steven Wilson- The Raven that Refused to Sing, Routine, or Drive Home (with vids) These are amazing, beautiful songs and vids! Please react, you'll love them!!!

Preach. They have reviewed songs I love and have made me love songs I haven't heard yet. I have a Lost in Vegas Playlist because of these two.
Best thing about Waylon was he LIVED this life not just sang about it. Listen to "This Outlaw Bit"
Even better, later on when he remade it as "Outlaw Shit". Legendary
@@clash79 I like his stuff but pfffft no it’s not….

I don't know, if the shoe fits, and 7 months 39 days are also really good. honestly you can just pick one at random and chances are it is a good one.
You Never Called Me by My Name- David Allen Coe
DAC wrote more songs than that one. How about we give it a rest?
cootaloot How about you fuck off. You dont wanna hear that song request a different on k goof
DAC is a racist
cootaloot DAC didn't write you never even called me by my name.
Nostrathomas85 God Damn right he is
You guys are cool for having big open ears.
Big?
William Smith big meaning they branch out to all genres of music.
stevie ray vaughan. cmon people let these guys know and like this comment.
Waylon is a legend! Love his music, may he Rest In Peace.
Thanks for the info!
Well, they wanted nothing to do with "big record labels" and did shit their way...the Outlaw way!
React to Willie Nelson blue eyes crying in the rain or I’d have to be crazy
Lacey Cooper or whiskey river
Jeff Healy is the blind guitar player but he was more of a blues player.
It's either Jeff Healey, who didn't play country, or Thumbs Carllile, who wasn't blind.
This Outlaw was tamed by Ms. Jesse Colter, his Outlaw wife, that loved him through addiction. Check out their song Storms Never Last... Their son is also in the music biz, Shooter Jennings. Thanks for this reaction. ❤
Storms Never Last is an amazing song!
John Prine’s cover of Storms Never Last is amazing.
jesse coulter is THE WOMAN
Tamed is definitely a relative term.
His grandson Struggle Jennings is in the music industry also..
Waylon Jennings you might recognize as the writer and singer to the theme from the Dukes of Hazard...
And he narrated the series
Waylon was also the Balladeer (narrator) of the Dukes of Hazzard tv show. Sang the theme song too.
He wrote it also
Hey guys metal elitist here don't listen to a lot of country but this gentleman commands respect this is a great country singer.
Same here - metal elitist, but these old-school country music guys are really something. The old-school blues guys are, too - I hope Lost in Vegas covers the blues soon!
Like Howlin' Wolf, "Evil" or "Backdoor Man":

Great comment Howard. He had great stage presence. Waylon was a bad dude. Plus he was so coked out during this part of his career.
How about another with Waylon along with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Krisofferson! They toured and recorded as "The Highway Men" The song Highwaymen is one of their best!
YES!
Great choice, FANTASTIC!
the outlaw country super group of the 80s and 90s... good shit!
Thank you for reacting to this! I grew up on his music.
It's crazy to think that if Waylon didn't give his seat up on The Day the Music Died, we would've never got any of Waylon's greatness.
The blind guy was Jeff Healy.
Oh I love jeff Healey, angel eyes
I love when you boys do country. I've been wanting to see you do some southern rock. Gator Country by Molly Hatchet
I like how you guys break down the lyrics. Good stuff.
Waylon Jennings is the man!
Waylon is a legend
Outstanding guitarist
Influential songwriter
And of course those effortless soaring vocals
Ronnie Milsap is a legendary blind country/crossover artist who definitely deserves a listen for any of his dozens of hit songs like "It Was Almost Like A Song", "Smokey Mountain Rain", and "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World." It is quite possible that you have seen him play the pedal steel or lap steel, but he usually played the piano.
However, one of the most famous blind musicians who played the guitar flat on his lap was Jeff Healey; if you listened to the radio at all in 1989, you had to have heard his song "Angel Eyes."
Hank 3 would be some outlaw country worth checking out. Country Heroes or Pills I Took.
Waylon was the bomb hell I have him playing in the SUV on every road trip..... Loved me some Waylon miss ya Hoss!
One of my favorite songs. Now it's only right you do some willie (willie nelson). I recommend whiskey river, good hearted woman or god's problem child
Alec Pearson don't forget pancho and lefty
Red headed stranger
Good hearted woman or Pancho and lefty
Love you guys. Definitely subscribed. Love how you are open minded to all music.
Good to see some Waylon. Now time for Emmylou Harris, Boulder to Birmingham. Best female voice in country...ever.
VogonPoet67 she’s good too. But can’t go wrong with Loretta Lynn.
Or little Tegan Marie, a 14 year old who I swear sounds like she’ll be the next queen of country.
Idk, I think Anita Carter is a top contender for the best female voice in country.
waylon did the dukes of hazzard theme song
Daniel Wojciechowski He sure did. Waylon was also in a Big Bird movie that my children watched when they were little. Can’t remember the name. But it was about Big Bird getting lost. Lol I believe I remember Waylon making an appearance on Sesame Street. Guess he has a soft side to his outlaw reputation. 😉
He also did the narration for the show!!
Wrote it too
He also played bass for Buddy Holly on Buddy's last tour. Had he not given up his seat, he would have been in the fatal plane crash.
@@tomanthony3943 truth
Spun out of his mind on Coke. This was real music. They dont make 'em like Waylon no more
You just made me think of George Jones - Who Gonna Fill There Shoes ... That song gets to me deep down
Love y’alls channel!!! Can y’all react to some Diggin Up Bones by Randy Travis one of my favorites by him!! But I’m down for whatever y’all react to cause I’ll still watch it!!
Would love to see and hear y'all's reaction to the story in this song!
R.I.P. Waylon! 🍻
Do Uncle Lucius-Keeping the Wolves Away!
Do "dont y'all think this outlaw bits done got out of hand" by waylon its freaking amazing
Fucking love that song!
Great song, love the acoustic version
It's different but the James Hetfield cover is badass.
Yup that thar is a Steele git-tar y'all
Traditionally, they're called git-fiddles
The LAP steel, to be more specific...and those guys get PAID in country music business because there is not a lot of them and they are rare talents...
That steel guitar in the video is a pedal steel guitar. They are on a stand and they have sustain pedals like a piano. A lap steel only has one fretboard and is played while it is laying on the players lap.
Peddle steel for sure! You 2 are are awesome. Glad y’all like some Waylon Jennings!
Yes that actually is the steel guitar
Macster33 his name was Ralph Mooney. A lot of people often trued to mimic his “licks”, but not so much these days...
No better sound in his world.
I came here to say this lol
That is a steel guitar. You want a guitar looking instrument it's a dobro and the blind man is Mr. Doc Watson.
Sherri Friedel were they talking about Ronnie milsap when they mentioned the claims country singer playing a steel guitar?
Actually the blonde guy they're referring to sitting down playing is Jeff Healey.
@@GlueGunsRoses Ronnie played piano. Jeff Healey was the one they were referring to. Type in Angel Eyes by Jeff Healey.
" Outlaw country " typically walks the line between country and rock , like Johnny cash
He sang the dukes of hazzard theme song and was part of the highwaymen.
Lmfaooo The Real. Uncut. COCAINA !!! that whole Ryan and George discussing about the guitar interlude was too funny. The song itself sound actually pretty nice and the live performance is evidence of that and not many people could work a crowd like that and sound solid on stage. This video was really entertaining and I thought it was a cool real country jam man so shoutout to Waylon Jennings and top notch video Lost In Vegas.
lol
I literally started reading this comment as George said that! lol
Yes boys, that is a steel guitar! Way back, they called it a "Hawaiian Steel Guitar".
An old-school Sho-bud, likely handbuilt by 'Shot' Jackson.
Cowboys from HI brought it over. I remember that blowing my mind when I learned it.
The thing about Waylon is that he legit did the things he sings in his songs, he's one of country music's true outlaw singers, along with Willie.
Love me some Waylon! In fact, my dogs are named Waylon and Willie. I’d love to see you guys react to Jamey Johnson - In Color! You know you want to!!!
Jason Beck yep, me too. My son’s name is Jennings.
My dog is named Waylon too..
Waylon was THE MAN!!! Cut my teeth on this!!
MEEEE tooooo! I was all over the outlaw sound, Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, David Allan Coe....
The Gambler by Kenny Rogers
Curtis Loew by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Williams Jr
Blue by Leann Rimes
Crazy by Patsy Cline
Just a few suggestions.
I love Curtis Lowe it is tied with Tuesday’s gone for my favorite skynrd song for some hank jr they should do family tradition and O D in Denver
It was a steel guitar. I love you guys! From Indiana.
Shoutout from another southern Indiana Hoosier!
You forgot the 2 most famous outlaws, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson!
While they are great outlaw artists, I would suggest that Ryan and George stay away from David Allen Coe.
My buddy is a country music fan and he loves David Allen Coe, why do you say that?
Blue on Black is a GREAT song! I second that recommendation
Check out The Cadillac Three if you like the lap steel. They’re a current band and use bass lap steel guitar.
Seven Spanish angels Willie and Ray Charles please
You guys!! OMFG 😂😂😂 You two bring so much joy to my life 💕
I LOVE Waylon.
Steven Wilson- The Raven that Refused to Sing, Routine, or Drive Home (with vids)
These are amazing, beautiful songs and vids! Please react, you'll love them!!!
Faith No More- The Real Thing!!
Waylon was a habitual line stepper.
Funk SoulBubby lol
There are few country singers I enjoy but Waylon is my favorite. His voice, his stage presence, his attitude, everything is so damn good.
