Waylon Jennings was originally supposed to be on the plane with Buddy Holly that faithful night Buddy Holly died along with the Big bopper and Richie Valens but the big bumper wasn't supposed to be on the plane he had a cold and Waylon Jennings gave him his seat on the plane and rode the bus to give him a chance to recover. Translation Wayland's been around a while you might want to check out Wayland and Willie luckenbach Texas this man basically between he and Willie Nelson they basically started the outlaw movement in country music of singing what they wrote and what they lived as opposed to what the writers wanted them to sing
Hi guys. The other Ramblin Man song was the Allman Brothers song from around 73. Waylon was definitely OG outlaw (see Highwaymen). Many moons ago Waylon was playing bass for Buddly Holly. He and another band member were asked to give up their seats on the bands plane for The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens as one of them was too sick to ride the bus on that cold night. They did. That night was the one sung about in Don McLeans song American Pie (The Day the Music Died) as that plane crashed that night killing Buddy and all on board. Don't know if you've ever seen The Dukes of Hazzard TV show. The opening theme music is sung and they show just a pair of hands playing guitar. Both the singer and the guitar player is Waylon.
@@timshelley8635, I know this is a year later, but I just saw this video now. Waylon and Buddy did not flip the coin. That was Tommy Allsup that lost the coin toss to Ritchie Valens. Waylon voluntarily gave up his seat to J.P. Richarson( The Big Bopper). J.P. had the flu and needed to get check out by a doctor before the next show. The heater on the bus didn't work and the bus was cold. Buddy joked with Waylon and said, "I hope your old bus freezes up." Waylon joked back, " I hope your plane crashes." Waylon blamed himself for years after that.
@@timshelley8635, no problem. I am working on building a replica of his guitar. So I have been doing a lot of studying on his life and listening to his autobiography. I guess all of this is still fresh in my mind still..lol.

Waylon had a great sense of humor. He also led the way for artistic control of his music, using his own band to record with instead of having to use house bands.
He was roommates with Johnny Cash when they first came to Nashville. Waylon's WANTED The outlaws album in the 70s was the first country album to go platinum. He wrote very blunt lyrics....like "Get your younger out of my mouth I'm kissing you good bye". Waylon also recorded with his wife some. Jesse Colter a star in her own right. @Bourbon Country Reacts, Wyoming Whiskey Master Blender Nancy Fraley here. The batch that you have there is actually 8 years and 10 months old. The fact that the winters are SO long in WY means that the maturation season is fairly short but very dry and hot, so the barrels might not taste as old at nearly 9 years as they would in KY at the same age. And to explain a little bit about the whiskey: the first Master Distiller at Wyoming Whiskey didn't like working with rye, so he rebelled and made a "rye-ish" whiskey that only had 48% rye in the mash bill vs. the at least 51% that is required by law to make true rye whiskey. Once we discovered this 4 years after the fact, we decided to blend the "rye-ish" whiskey with the rye-recipe Bourbon that was distilled at the same time (2011). The result was a whiskey that was 1/3 of the "rye-ish" whiskey to 2/3rds rye Bourbon that was blended together to create Outryder. As a side note, whenever I am working to blend the whole portfolio of Wyoming Whiskey's Bourbon and whiskey, I tend to listen and be inspired by a lot of Outlaw Country musicians such as Waylon, Willie, Cash, Coe, etc. I'm also a big fan of all three Hanks (i.e., Sr, Jr., and III).
