1:15 and i may add that theres this feature where the resources gathered by a villagers get deposit when you finish a farm. So there's almost no value lost in cutting nearby trees to gain that time.
This can be quite clutch honestly. Had this FFA game where I was beaten and relegated to a tiny Island. Had < 100 wood, tasked 19 vills to a tree and built a farm with them when they were done. Instant 380 wood in my bank and I could make other stuff. Got my wonder victory that game.
5) horse collar takes 20 seconds, farms take 15 seconds, so horse collar needs to be at least at 25%. T90 just play Khmer and do what you want.
Hey Mike do you have the timing for heavy plow? I've always wondered with that one I think it has to be about 50% but I dunno
@@neildutoit5177 pretty sure you can look it up on the wiki, same for any other tech or much other helpful stats (bonus damages for units, building construction times etc).

Number 2 is slick and cool, but I don't think any players that aren't at least 1500+ elo should bother with it. It saves maybe 1 or 2 food and you have much more important things to focus on when your elo isn't among the best.

agree! i always mix some newer player tips with some tips for some of my higher elo audience though. Getting something in there for everyone who watches to learn from
I think that tip is awesome to practice
It will help you practice those garrison and ungarrison hotkey which should help anyone above 1200. May not be very important for that occasional farm. Helps in saving vills or sending vills to new res.
I think people get the habit of it once they garrsion vils luring boars. It also saves the frustration of potentially bumping into shepherds, etc. under the tc.

@@markusdegenhardt8678 I so totally disagree! Laming tactics and other peculiar (e.g. quickwalling) or creative exploitation of the mechanics is a big part of the fun with multiplayer. In my opinion, that is. But even as a victim of such tactics!

Laming on the oder Hand involves a lot of rng.
It also is an unwritten rule for the majority of the Playerbase to Not lame. You can Debatte If this unwritten rule is good and If Players should follow it but it definetly is one of the reasons why laming is so annoying.

4:58 Not only does the Teutonic knight fade in, but the mangonel shot does as well. And then they're firing in sync again.
Was going to mention the last trick if you didn't. I've seen expert players use this about twice in all the games I've seen. You should have shown units around a town center, because that's when this trick is most useful. It would be nice to see players focus more on denying a specific resource that's needed to make a counter-unit, like denying food when the counter is scouts.
I think this also works well with bringing forward villagers to wall about 7 tiles from your opponent's TC. Try it! Or 6 tiles if stone walls, since those take 1 damage from TC. Can make a stone gate to block villagers from repairing a stable, etc. This should be easier in DE with partially-built diagonal gates blocking at their corners. I guess (I haven't played DE) that this is harder with unbuilt gates now having no pierce armor; but stone gate is at least about as good as any other building which would take 5 bonus damage but no pierce damage, or palisade gate which would take full pierce and bonus damage.

I don't know if someone noticed but the villager only works in the upper part of the crop. So it would be more efficient to start placing the farm below the TC.

This means that the player who starts south has slight advantage as his farms would be more protected by the tc.

Messy farms aren't too bad once you've got handcart
Farm timing is also crucial. And khmer is good for farming bcs u can farm literally anywhere on the map.Also on water amp or classic nomad farms are not that big deal.

Hey Hera, there one thing I am always not sure about. When I build many farms with many vills. How do I make sure they all go to their individual farms and don't collectively build one after another which takes a lot of time??

Funnily enough, you can actually place a farm up to 1 tile away - but only after you've researched Hand Cart. Then it doesn't make enough of a difference to matter to efficiency. Basically only a sub 1% loss (SotL did a video that confirmed it).
So, late game you actually can get some click and attention efficiency out of placing "t90farms". Of course that only helps if your attention is urgently needed elsewhere, e.g. you're placing farms and get an attack signal.

Also stolen farms give strange additional food, and monks can heal farms pretty fast
Additional food? That sounds like something allies could exploit...
There was a patch about a year ago when you commanded farm, garrisoned vil, then go backed to work, the vil would eject where it garrisoned from it drove me nuts

You can use your farm vills to build one house each around their farm. When the villager steps away from the farm, the farm regenerates/grows food, and after returning the villager quickly harvests/collects all that food without waiting in one spot. That way your villager doesnt lose work time and can wall yourself with houses that way too.
I do this with multiple villagers at once, shift+right clicking them to go back to farm after building.

So cool if true! The inner workings of farms and markets (and towers, and so on...) are still mysterious to me. In AoE 1, multiple villagers could work on each farm, but this did not seem to increase food output... If what you write here about AoE 2 (DE?) is correct, then shouldn't it also be possible - at least in principle - to micromanage to harvest efficiently from more farms than one has farmers? E.g., trying to rotate seven (or even as few as four?!) farmers on eight farms around the TC, during a wonder race or the early growth phase in a normal game.
Does treadmill crane allow farms to be built faster as well? Ik it doesn't seem like a tech used much by pros from what I've heard BUT seems like it would be worth researching just for that alone, if so.

What do you think of the farm layout where you start every row of farms at the right (or left) edge of a building, to have a layout with no holes in it? I've noticed that none of the farms in the video had this layout, so I wondered if you think it's significant (Looks nice anyhow^^)

You mean the... Kind of Swastika-like pattern around each mill? 🙄 How can it *not* be the best? Not because of the symbolism, obviously 😅, but because the walking distances are minimized when there are no holes.

1200 here who had no idea about the mangonel range farm thing, good tip! Also I like the idea of using my TC to teleport but there's no way I have the APM for that :D

mangonel range thing is really OP and its rather new. Lets abuse it together bro
How to you send 3 vills under the TC to wood? Do you select them, click on the TC to drop the food and then click a tree? What I most often do is select my villagers, garison them inside my TC, set a gather point to my woodline and then press L to ungarison my vills. It doesn't take that much APM, you just have to hit two very common keybinds while you're clicking. Note that with that farm trick, you don't even have to set a gather point to the farm.
Doing this kind of stuff is especially useful when we take into account the infamous villager pathfinding. Instead of walking around sheeps or whatnot, you simply teleport them. It's very neat and efficient, and I'm sure that with some practice you could do it without even thinking about it!

What is the best way of making a ton of farms in the late game? Let's say i need to place 10 farms. Can i place the farms, the mill and then task the vills to the mill?
Sometimes not all of them are auto assigned to a close farm
you didn’t mention the “deny quick walls with farms” thing that you encountered in a recent game.

I guess it's a good way to lose 60 wood though.

@@battleforevermore if it stops the quick wall and gets your rush in then it can be worth it. Plus the walling villager would have to be tasked to attack the farm then build again to stop it.

Something I always wanted to know and never dared to ask is if when my villager has another resource (be it wood, gold or stone) and sends him to build a farm. Are those resources that he had in his possession lost?
No they are dropped in ur stockpile as if u told the villager to drop them at the tc then build the farm!

Idea for a new civ bonus: have a civ who can place farms for free, but farming drains your wood like repairing.
There is probably some balancing to do around farm sling, maybe make it so the farm's food increases as your wood is depleted.
Maybe make the wood a little more than 60 wood to balance it or just don't give that civ horse collar?
I feel that would be super strong yet it could have interesting strats

I have aI have a question. If I am harvesting wood and create a farm, do I get all the wood harvested or do I lose it? Greetings, Hera.
It's like building i believe. You drop a farm and 60 wood is spent. If you delete it before starting you get that wood back. If you delete it midway, you probably get half of the wood back.
The 60wood is converted into 26f/min producing farms with a total limit based on upgrades and bonus
When you are build a producing building like farms, mills, town centers, stone camps and lumberjacks you will get all resources at the point the building is finished. On the other hand, when you are building a house for example, you will lose it.
@@lloydreed4721 u dont lose it if u build a hosue it just stays with the villagwr. If u have 10 wood and make a farm, the 10 wood goes to ur stockpile like if u drop it at a lumbercamp. If u have 10 wood and make a house the villager simply keeps that 10 wood

There's something i wanna ask abt the no 1.i have known rhis for a while and use this for get some really nice value but doesnt just placing the archer or skirm on stand grnd and telling them to attk the vill makes them go idle?am i wrng abt this?do vills not go idle?i really thought the mangonel farm trick would be no1.
@@Achilles75 the vils will go idle if u hit them but they usually work on the inside of the farm so u have to go closer to shoot them. Also if u right click to attack vil and he garrisons u will run into the tc and maybe lose the unit. Attacking farm makes u further away and u dont even have to worry about him much.

If you start building a farm and delete it to place it in a different location, do you lose the full 60 wood?

As soon as u start building it (the hp of the farm rises) then if u delete it u only get a % of wood back based on how much of it was unbuilt.

I'm a guy... a gay one, so I don't use my hand...
I use my large early wood bonus instead, like any good Vietnamese player.
And #2 I get killing herdables & stealing boars is 'bad' - very influential to an early game, but this is nasty in my mind. Not terribly powerful I don't think, just harassive... both to the economy & one's sensibilities!
Due to the high quality of the recent videos, I have to point out that this one wasn't up to par. This felt like stuff I knew and/or stuff that isn't very exciting.
It's probably important and this content will help a lot of people, but I don't think I would be re-watching this one as compared to the other recent videos.
Keep at it through, love the effort, the upload schedule, the editing and especially those few puns and jokes you throw in.

- mill upgrade help your wood collection more than food collection.
- wheelbarrow helps around 17 farms and is very helpful for farming
- handcart and wheelbarrow will slow your food dropoff frequency, so force drop maybe needed for that 40 food to click up.
-the old advice of farming in the right and bottom doesn't matter anymore.
-handcart means you can drop inefficient farms too
- AND THE NUMBER ONE TIP IS.... pick slavs.
