    Top tier analysis -- many people fail to convey this much detail, nuance, and understanding, at least so concisely. On the last year of my History major (with a Classics minor), and it's great to have something like this to kick me in the rear and remind me of the fundamentals when they get buried under everything.

    I think the most influential marriage in all of ancient history was Pompey's marriage to Julia. I wonder how differently history would have played out had she not died so young, severing the bond between Pompey and Caesar.

      It’s a shame that she died so young, the marriage was by all accounts a very happy one and Caesar had tremendous affection for his daughter. Had she survived and reconciled the two then perhaps Parthia may have become part of Rome

      @@tribunateSPQR in the history of Rome podcast by Mike Duncan, it seemed like it was a running joke that he actually loved his wife. But yeah it’s one of those big what-ifs in history.
