    Wonderful to have you back.
What is your range when it is Minus 20C to Minus 30C on the highway?
I tested this over multiple trips, short and long.
    Speed 115 kmh,
    Heat 24C
    Fan on 4 to 7
    Heated seats on both sides
Heated steering wheel on most of the time.
    I received 41 to 44 kwh per 100 kms.
I would say, you can be very confident that you will get 300 kms, with 5% battery left, maybe a little more or less.
It is early days, but when there are more charging stations that work, it will be no problem to go anywhere at anytime with out even thinking about it.
Lets take some CO2 out of the air! Lets reduce what we emit and have some fun doing it.

Maybe you should get a electric golf cart if you have no concern of usability. Your statistics are way off.. people do two and USE their trucks. what's going to happen after you use up your 90 miles of range and then someone is at the charging station, your 2 hour wait just became a 4 hour wait.. not remotely viable for another 5- 10 years without some major improvements, then you can say your were right all along.. lol.. but not now.

@@mydroneadventures8807 You can charge from 0 to full in 45 minutes ?? and you can tow a 6K camper trailer more than 90 miles ?? and if someone is in front of you at the charger location, which does not support room for a camper, your saying it will not take you 2 hours or more ?? PROVE THIS... POST A VIDEO.. I will retract my comments then. We have these trucks in my area too... so please don't command me what to post or not post. There is about 1% of charging stations compared to GAS stations. This stuff isn't VIABLE yet.. if we all switched to E-golf carts tonight like you biden voters would like, we all be in trouble in a few weeks.

Cool. Makes sense. But some people like electric. It happens to have some downsides. Personally I like the instant heat the electric gives and the fact of costing me $8 to fill my pack (400km in winter). How much does it cost you to fill up your f150? How long do u have to wait until the truck is warm?

Do you know what you will never worry about in an EV truck? Running out of juice, (charged full every morning)going to a gas station, being tied to the fluctuations of the greedy fossil fuel industry, light weight rear end, power outages at home, on and on, the EV is more convenient 99% of the time the ICE is more convenient 1% of the time.

Thanks for the good info on your experience. What you are basically saying is your experience is a ~>30% loss in range at these cold temps. Don’t forget this vehicle is specifed to get 25.4 kw-hr/100 Kms. Temp. Not specified. That is a 40% difference in your 44kw-hr/100Kms. However, this appears to be is fine for you as it meets your expectations for range based on your needs. All good. However, that may not be acceptable to others either because they expect the same range hot or cold or that they actually need it. This is a consideration all EV buyers need to make before they buy. I agree the Ford F150 is the best performing light truck out there hands down. Just have to know the limitations that any particular vehicle may have and if it fits your needs.

Good video. Remember battery percentage is not real battery percentage in the Winter. Ford recalcs the battery capacity based on ambient temp. I bet you will find you may only be able to go 83 km on 39%. Do a test and let us know. In summary in cold 100% is not 100 or 131 kW. So 44 kw/100 kms may be correct (and I found the Ford efficiency spot on) but battery is not specified capacity. Sorry it's disappointing. Message me if you want to see the data. A buddy recently scanned his found his 100kWh battery was only 80 kWh and that's at 20F. I made the same assumption as you but when measuring the actual charges, less charger losses, to validate, my true efficiency was 10-30% less as the battery is “smaller”.

As a fellow Albertan, I'm really looking at switching from my 2014 Tesla to the lightning. Everyone screams about the range loss in winter for the lightning, but as a percentage, is it worse than my model S? That's what I'm really trying to figure out. But realistically, with a bigger range to start with, I suspect it would be okay. One real world question, at those temperatures, do you figure it would be able to do the leg from Calgary to Golden? My model S can do that most of the year, but can't quite manage it at -30c. The distance is less than the 300 km you talk about here, but you have to count the mountains.

    • @coldtesla6212
      @coldtesla6212  6 місяців тому

Depends on speed, if you are 115kmh, then yes no problem, what you lose on the way up you get back on the way down. I constantly get 300kms, wind is the big one!

@@coldtesla6212 considering 3/4 of the way there is a 90 limit, that means it's doing better than my model S, and that's the only thing that really matters to me. You say what you lose on the way up you gain on the way down, that's not universally true. Sure you regen a bunch, but there are certainly significant losses to that. I was just wondering if you had real world experience heading through the mountains?

I just love how all the people that buy EV’s try to justify their short comings….. Too windy - need to hold off on the test, too cold - mileage isn’t THAT bad, getting stuck in an accident traffic jam at -30C - just bundle up so you don’t freeze 🥶 to death when your charge runs out in the middle of nowhere! These EV trucks carry a pretty hefty price premium and yet there are MANY compromises that have to be made vs an ICE. Maybe they will get there 10 years down the road, but as an engineer the numbers just don’t currently add up in order for me to purchase one. Maybe one day when they triple the range and cut the charging time…

BTW, the average new EV with a heat pump can keep the cabin of the vehicle warm for 75 hours where as the average ICE car with a full tank can only idle for around 30 hours. Who is bundling up now?
