  • This is my second Cold weather test. This time it is in -9 Degrees.
    Can the F150 lightning survive cold weather?
    Do the Ford Lightning batteries go down quicker in the cold
    How long do batteries last in cold weather
    Does cold weather effect range on an EV?
    Have you ever wondered if your EV can survive if you are stuck in a winter storm?
    Can you take a road trip in a F150 Ford Lightning?
    What do I do if Tesla charger is not working?
    In this video we are discussing my first experience testing my F150 Lightning being stuck out in the cold with the heater on.
    The 2023 Ford F150 Lightning Lariat trim is such an awesome truck. You can even take a road trip with confidence. If you leave it in sport mode, the regenerative braking will help extend the range whether you are driving in town or on a highway.

    Hello fellow Coloradan… recently took advantage of state, federal, ford promo, ford private offer, and incentives to get 22,100 off MSRP for a Lariat extended range. Thanks for your great videos, which were instrumental in making the decision to trade in our Maverick (and a van). Walked out the door with $48K loan w Ford @ 1.9%! What an awesome truck. Our last F150 was a 21 King Ranch PowerBoost. The lightning blows it away and is so comfortable. I wish they had a heated windshield!

      That’s awesome Jim. I hope you love it as much as we do. Maybe I will see you around sometime. I’m so happy you got a great deal. I’ve been telling people that they can get a pretty good deal now.

      Wish I lived in Colorado, but I was still able to get $14k off an XLT ER in California. Do be careful of the rear window heater - apparently they can break the window on all F150s.

      Congrats! Yeah, the incentives are pretty good right now. I'm going to upgrade from SR to ER tomorrow. I've been very happy with my SR and almost don't want to trade up. 😂

      Thank you for watching. Yeah that’s my goal. It’s just to give people information to know what it’s like to have one themselves. Feel free to ask me any questions you may want me to address on a video too.

    This is very informative. Have you done any experimenting with warming up the truck for departure unplugged?
    Reason I ask: I'm considering an extended range Lightning. I can charge 4 hours for free per day at work. I could potential not install a "charger" at home and only install a NEMA-14 outlet at home for the portable Ford charger.
    I live in western Massachusetts. We have 4-5 months of 25-40° winters with maybe a few weeks of single digits in Jan/Feb.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  5 днів тому

      Yes I’ve warmed up the truck all the time in the winter while I’m at work and it’s out in the parking lot. It gets super cold here in Colorado so it’s a nice feature to turn it on from the app and you get out there and it’s super warm. It will probably burn through about 1 or 2% on the battery warming it up though depending on how long you keep it running for. Hope that answers your questions.
      I only use my portable charger to charge at home with a 240v outlet, and it works great.

      Hi Lindsay, it’s great to hear from you. Thank you for the comments. I’m sorry that you have to deal with that type of weather every day. For us here in Colorado while it will get that cold it usually warms back up to about 30 or 50° in a day or so.

    Mike, I’m trying to take advantage of these deals and you have about the same weather as Chicago. Currently it’s not bad here. And love these videos. I’m trying to grasp what I can expect on a 60 mile commute to work all high way in say 9 degree weather day. Do I have to just use my heat seater and steering wheel? Can I run the heater? My final question is. Could I make that commute say 2 times a week with out plugging in? I appreciate the help. I’m looking at a xlt er

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, you can run the heater. That’s a total of 120 miles round-trip per day? If so you should be fine for two times on one charge if you want to but you should still plug it in every night. I always plug mine in if it gets below 60% just because I have a slow charger and I don’t mind it charging up at night since it’s cheaper. And I just charge it to 90%.

    • @Clifford2601
      @Clifford2601 4 місяці тому +1

      @@F150LightningMike that 60 miles is round trip. I think I’m worried about winter driving next year and say I don’t plug in at night

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  4 місяці тому +2

      I am right in the middle of doing a winter driving trip test. Most of my driving is a mix of city and highway and I average about 2.0 miles/ kWh which will get you a little over 200 miles if you don’t want to drain it all the way. But trying to do a straight 70 mph mostly highway test. So maybe that will answer your question better. It’s actually not straightforward answer you’ll see you once you see the video.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  4 місяці тому

      The only drop in range that I have noticed is resulting from temperature or elevation meaning going up or down in the mountains.

    Does your lightning ask you every time you start the truck if you want to be in Sport mode? Mine does and it's annoying, wish the truck would just remember exactly how I left the truck every time. My Pro Power onboard turns on every time as well even though I turn it off every time. Seems like simple things to software update and I have asked but Ford hasn't done it.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  4 місяці тому +1

      I’ve heard that the sport mode thing should be coming on a future update, but who knows. At this point it could be just a rumor. The pro power onboard for your cab will turn on each time in order to power charging your phone and such. The bed and frunk should default to off. I actually like that. I wouldn’t want to have to turn it on each time just to charge my phone.

    • @darinbrazil5496
      @darinbrazil5496 4 місяці тому

      @@F150LightningMike Pro Power onboard has nothing to do with charging your phones. All the usb and charge pads still work with the Pro Power shut off completely. The point is the truck obviously knows that a change has been made by the user but for some reason it feels it needs to ask if the user wants to keep that change at a new start up and then when the user says yes keep the change the truck continues to ask at each startup rather then just keeping the truck the same as it was at last use.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  4 місяці тому

      That’s a good point. Agreed it should default to what you had last and not ask you about it.
