    Wonderful to have you back.
How does the F150 Lightning perform in the snow when it is cold, minus 20C to minus 40C, cold? and windy and more snow?
500kms range is what the truck has performed all summer and of course more in the city.
What does winter bring, as you can tell, winter can arrive in November and all the way to April and even a little in May but May snow storms never last more than 2 days.
The driving part is outstanding, all wheel drive basically, the weight of the truck helps with stability and handling.
Range was reduced to 290kms from the 500kms I was expecting 400kms.
This is bad, and I have no idea how Ford will fix this or what it will cost.
IF you are thinking of buying a Lightning, get the longest range possible, in fact, Any electric car or truck, get the longest range possible, if it goes below ZERO where you live, you need the range for when that happens otherwise you have a paper weight that costs an extreme amount of money.
Lets take some CO2 out of the air! Lets reduce what we emit and have some fun doing it.

Always be sure to precondition the battery while it's still plugged in to help extend the range. Loosing range isn't a problem for me, even though I only charge mine to 80%, because my longest trip is about 60 miles, so even if mine is cut in half I could drive over 100 miles. Anyone purchasing a lightning to drive long distances are going to get range anxiety.

Well done. I've only had a handful of cold days so far with my Lightning, but my Mach-E used to drop quite a bit when it was extremely cold. For those of you who are in the US... 325 Km of range is 201 Miles. Remember, the range is still an estimate based on your personal driving situation. In NYC, the speed limit on local roads is 25 MPH, with the max highways at only 50 MPH (Good luck trying to even go that fast with all the traffic), so for me my ranges are super high. My Standard Range Lightning is rated at 230 miles... and in the summer I regularly got 300. In the cold, I drop to about 220.

Driving an SR in the Twin Cities in winter is a lesson on keeping an eye on the % battery or miles/kwh. If the truck was plugged in and preconditioned, I'm in 2 to 2.3 m/kwh. If the truck is cold it's more like 1.6 to 1.8. Very usable for daily driving.

I’m hoping with 640KM range I should be good in the winter. Heat pump helps a lot. I live just outside of Toronto. So I’m used to the nasty weather too. I’m
Thinking the Silverado will loose around 30% range in the winter (not towing of course). So that should leave me around 400-450km in the winter. Nice truck. I love electric pick ups. I currently have a 2020 Sierra

I knew range would be cut down dramatically and that isn't a problem for me as my commutes are under 100km per day. I am more interested to hear about the other aspects of winter driving. Like how does the heating work. Since it electric, does the heat start coming out of the vents instantly? Does it provide enough heat to keep the cabin comfortable in extreme cold? Does it take long to heat the cabin comfortably? How is the defrost. Is it equivalent to an ICE truck? I am assuming with the added weight and evenly distributed battery, the truck should drive great. Strange that they took off remote start from the fob. I can see them renaming it to pre-condition or something like that but to remove it is odd. So now you do this through the app. I am okay with that as long as that function stays free. If it requires a subscription after so many years, I'm out. I bought a 100k Cadillac and the app stopped working after 3 years. They expect me to pay $50/month so that I can remote start my car every once in a while. Not going to happen and that nickel and dimeing cost GM any future sales from me.

Good video and thank you for sharing.... but .....No thank you. I'll stick with freedom, the ability to go where I want when I want and not stress about battery life. Don't get me wrong, the tech is pretty cool but it's not even close to being there and a loss of that much, because of cold conditions, is BS. I'm in the north east and our weather is freezing and very hot. Not to mention, salt water and stop and go traffic. I see no real reason to get a EV truck at this point. What about the death of the battery? How long is that going to last with that type of abuse. I know my battery tools suffer big-time in cold weather, dropping power quickly, and when hot, not being able to charge because they need to cool. If my tool batteries are acting like that, that means they are wearing prematurely and inefficient, SO, for a truck, with a very expensive battery, one that will cost tens of thousands (speculating), that hasn't stood the test of time, I am holding out indefinitely. Not to mention, we do not have many charging stations here, and to plan a trip, when we take my truck for family vacations, it would be a MAJOR inconvenience. Just because the solution to something isn’t perfect, doesn’t mean it is A solution. Just because it doesn’t fit your use case yet, doesn’t mean it’s not perfect for me. I did have to make a few adjustments to my lifestyle. But the benefits outweigh the cons.

The first thing I thought to myself was, no parent should buy a care like this for their child, or a first time driver. It can fly, accelerate very quickly, but with the added weight, because of the battery, it's very dangerous and can get people into trouble quickly. I raced cars years ago and much of racing is shifting the weight, inertia, to enhance cornering and braking. With the EVs, there is greater inertia, due to their weight and that can throw a car out of balance very quick. Yes, I know they have STM and driver assists that counter act user error but still, all that power in inexperienced hands is frightening.
As for usage, speaking for myself, I would get a lighting for my work but would always want an ICE vehicle as a backup or for long trips.
Unfortunately the Lightning only has a 5' bed so that really limits me with my tool transport. There are jobs that I pack my truck for and that extra foot makes a huge difference. When I bought my truck, the dealership screwed up, or tried to pull a fast on, and sent a 5' bed truck. The second I saw it I said, NOPE! There was no way I was going to settle. Needless to say, I ended up using another dealership because the salesman wouldn't return my calls when I wanted to rectify the issue. I gave them a shot and they played games. Fast forward, I ordered my 09 F150 with all the options I wanted from a different dealership and now have 220,000 mi on it and couldn't be happier.
Point is, if I am going to invest in a new vehicle, truck, I plan on keeping it for it's life and there is too much unknown about EVs, especially the F150, for me and my usage, to not pull the trigger yet.
Like you said, everyone has their reasons/usage.
Thanks for the polite and considerate conversation. This is how we learn and accept the differences between people. Cheers!

Hey! For sure! It’s not for you yet. I agree it feels like the EV’s are being pushed on us. But truth is, they are just better. More efficient, more powerful, more utility.
However, if you need a F250 or F350 or a 8 ft bed. Then this truck is not for you. Wait for the RAM EV. That’s going to be a great truck.
I travel 420 km every weekend from my house to where I work. Every weekend. I was spending $1000 a month on gas . Canada. No more. I charge once each trip. No big deal. It takes me longer by about 45 mins and in the cold it’s no fun, but the money I save and the quality of the quiet safe ride in the highway is amazing . I occasionally haul household renovations stuff, dump runs etc. I also tow a travel trailer in the summer. We will see how that works out.
I’m not a farmer or a heavy duty mechanic who need a an diesel burner.
      Hang in there.

Great truck, losses 40% power when left unplugged overnight in very low temps , garbage, if you charge your vehicle and unplug it overnight at 8:00 PM your car heaters will run all night to keep the battery at 70C , which will reduce range by as much as 40%, The big lie is this there is no savings, EV vehicles constantly waste power when not plugged in , batteries and pumps systems need to be on constantly running wasting energy 24/7, and wait for this utility costs will double due to high energy requirements due to all these high rate chargers running.

@Cold Tesla I tow often with my lightning, I just don't tow a 10k lb rv, up hill, coast to coast with a light-duty truck! I for the life of me don't get why HD truck people keep comparing the F-150 Lightning to F-350s for towing. They aren't the same product! This is like me going to a HD truck towing test video and saying 'Overpriced complete junk! I'll stick to my 50k luxury sedan that actually has better ride quality, mpg, 0-60, and does not sound like a dump truck!'.
If you need to tow 35k, no F-150 ever made will help you! If you don't need HD towing, you gave up a lot of comfort, safety, and mpg just to try to compensate for your pp.
