    I grew up on MPC's and samplers. I sold my Elektron years back. A friend gave me his Model:Samples as a gift to get me back into music production and my God I am blown away. So simple, yet so flexible! I like it better than the OP1.

    I love the way you have emphasized certain points with text. Not that it’s entirely new, just that you have done it in a way that focuses attention on important ideas - important to the discussion or important to you, but also worth underlining for viewers. This could especially help for people not as quick with English, or with a given accent or phrasing. I just appreciate the thoughtfulness of your videos - in this case, taking a simple graphical approach and putting it to a helpful purpose. Your guest did a great job for you and Elektron too. Cheers to both of you for making this instrument come to life here.

    I can’t wait for this thing. Adding sound locks is huge and opens up so much potential. The only requests I have is a shift+decay function to add attack to the Envelope and a filter EG if possible. Seems like they’ve all but maxed out the DSP on this thing. Regardless, I’m still getting it, and I sold my Digitakt to do so. The Digitakt is a great machine, and it’s a very powerful machine, but having most of its functionality on a knob per function device is too enticing. My workflow and the kind of music I make requires constant tweaking of parameters and a lot of adjustments on trig conditions. This became a pain on the Digitakt because it’s all menu/page driven. Having everything in front of you greatly improves my workflow and makes me much more willing to experiment. In turn, I make sounds and drum patterns I never would’ve made before. Like Ess said, each person will find something they like in each device. For me, it’s the Model:Samples. Adding sound locks firmly placed this into Elektron’s already solid repertoire and it’s deserving of its spot.

    I agree with the guy who wanted an app for loading samples into it. I’m not sure it has to be Elektron doing the app, we’ve seen 3rd party things for both Rytm and Digitakt (Digitakt also got a librarian in web browsers that support MIDI, or Web MIDI?). I want to sample random stuff with my iPhone, basic sample trim, sort it into folders if making a kit, and transfer to the Model:Samples. Ess did a great job explaining what the point of this box is, a different workflow! 👊👌 Edit: Oh I forgot to say, really good video, thanks Thomann. Jk, Mr.HaQ.

    I just got it in. I’ve been using a Yamaha RM1X for ages but it’s starting to show its age and since I don’t create apt of new beats, it requires me to dive into the manual every time when I write a new drum track, because it’s that complicated.
    Now having said that, the Elektron’s manual requires some quick start sections to be honest.
    But it’s not as complicated as the RM1x but it takes a bit of time. For example selecting a sample requires you to press the button to keep it locked up the track. I’d you don’t click the button after you change to another track your selected sample is gone; which is idiotic as you audition it you’d expect it to be implicitly selected.
    But it’s really a nice simple drum machine, that allows you to quickly draft up your drum tracks. I just finished a backing track for Falco’s Amadeus, where I used it for my first project. And immediately dove in to do AHA’s take on me drum track. It’s kind of addictive and that’s good.
    I’m not yet sure how to create odd time signature beats.
    Like 5/4th and 6/8ths as I use those a lot too.

    Forgive me for my ignorance as I’m not an IPad musician (but I do have the m:s), but why is class compliant usb such a cool feature? What would you use it for? Someone school me 🎧

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  5 років тому +7

      External USB gear has to be class compliant in order to be able to connect to and work with iDevices. iOS doesen’t work like normal operating systems (OS) and so there’s no way of downloading drivers for external USB gear like one does on Desktop/Laptop computers. Class compliant is like saying “plug n Play”. No extra drivers needed. Like Ess states in the video, M:s is class compliant and allows for streaming MIDI and Audio in and out of the iPad/iPhone. This can be done over USB without having to add a sound interface to the setup.

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  5 років тому

      Yeah the Curcuit and wiring is done but the enclosure isn’t finished. I thought I’d wait with making a video on it since most of my viewers (at that time) weren’t interested in that type content, so I needed to space the project out. Also I need the enclosure to be finished. Panel is on the way though. I’m also building a second one because the final product is going to be stereo. A video will be done when it’s finished but I have no clue when that’ll be though. 😅

    • @doppelganger8659
      @doppelganger8659 4 роки тому

      russ8889 the point is you barely need the screen at all. It is nearly knob per function with almost no menu diving. I can make patterns faster than I could I could play them live with this device. My job involves 90% computer work. I don’t want to look at a screen during my music making time. The other nice thing is that this is just ready to go. It has one job. Making music. It’s really good at it. I have many ios apps and while I could in theory do many of the same things I can do with this on an iPad, that sounds tedious and not fun. This is loads of fun to use, great tactile response, (nothing quite like turning a knob) and doesn’t give me eye fatigue.

      @@dragonmodel9262 🤔
      That's weird.
      Recording can be done in 2 ways.
      1. Push the circle button then just push the little number pads in the spot you want the sounds to play.
      You do have to switch to a different track for each instrument using the big pads.
      2. Push the circle button THEN the triangle button while still holding the circle button. That puts you in live record mode. Then play your beat using the big track buttons.
      you can switch to quantized or unquantized mode. By toggling the above button combo a couple of times.
      It's fiddly but the screen will let you know which mode you're in.
      There's also a click/metronome you can activate through another button combo FUNC + 🔁.
      That is unless you're talking about some type of hardware issue...

    • @BendApparatus
      @BendApparatus 2 роки тому

      @@dragonmodel9262 you don't have to set the tempo unless you want to.
      The default tempo seems to be 120bpm. I'm 1 of those people who always forgets tempo when making beats...so all my beats are 120bpm...😅
      Default bar length is 1 bar (16 steps).
      You can make it longer by pushing FUNC + PAGE then using the 🍊 knob to increase it.
      But here's the thing.
      By leaving it at 1 bar (16 steps) you can try to learn the sequencer's probability and conditional trigger functions to make a 1 bar pattern sound like 2 or 3 even 4 bars long!
      There's a lot of power and wackiness in this odd white slate. It's just a matter of trying different stuff.
      TIPS!
      1. Make a habit of pushing the ⏺️ button after you finish recording live to get out of it and not accidentally record knob twiddling onto your pattern.
      2. Once you get a groove going you like. Push FUNC + 🔧 button to quick/temp save to a 📋. So if you knob twiddle yourself into a mess you can push FUNC + PATTERN to quick load your saved groove again!
      Remember it's a temp save so you will still need to permanently save by going into the 🔧 menu and pattern save. I will admit this thing's save menu is kind of confusing. So let me know if you need some tips.
      I'm also learning this thing.
