    Dude your samples are sounding crystal clear. I feel like I can pick good drum sounds that I like from splice but when it comes to texture or something other than drums I don't think I make as good of picks. Any tips, sounds you stay away from etc..? I know it's sort of a dumb question and the best way to find out is to try more lol. Thx 🤙

    • @mr.apartment
      @mr.apartment  Рік тому +1

      not dumb at all my dude. most of the sounds I'm using are stock, the one's that i actually record i go direct from my synths to my focusrite interface and record them into logic x. from there it's a lot about how you export, like quality etc. i'm not a recording guru by any means, but i'd suggest just recording and exporting on high quality settings etc. i'm sure there's a ton of info about it. the other thing to keep in mind is what you're doing with the sounds once they are loaded onto the unit. if you're wanting to use sample packs from other ppl it's kind of out of your hands about quality etc. obviously taking a sample and pitching it down will also effect the quality of the sound, or adding effects like saturation will also degrade the fidelity. hopefully that helps haha

  • @NunyaB1s
    @NunyaB1s 2 роки тому +2

    ooooooooooh.... I get it today. I just created a simple blast beat at 300bpm and then after the hypnotic effect kicked in I started playing with the retrig on with a snare. I first noticed that when playing with just the pads, you get a sort of timestretched feel that you can control with your fingers with kicks snare and cymbals.
    Then I snagged a track with the snare and got the idea to create a lead with it. It's not a-musical but it's not exactly musical either, its like holding onto an electric dragon that's threatening to throw you off. Playing with the retrig rate and the pitch lets you create some sweet spots which you can then futz around with freq/res/volume. Sweet spots change per sample and start point.
    I think with a couple of outboard fx this is an instrument all its own, like a theremin. (It's hard to wrangle but this is day 1 really.) The slide trig I still can't get on demand, but I get why you need it: frees up a hand to tweak knobs.
    You've also inspired me to try some longer samples and use start point to get a real-time time stretch effect. I'll be honest, lack of certain synth features was starting to make me regret this beast, but as I am walking in literally from the past (16yrs since the last time I wrangled synths) I'm being faced with realtime control on features that used to be fully buried in menus. It'll take me a bit to get a feel for this new liquid land.

    This is some crazy fun stuff... I'd been told in the past that people turn elektron products into synths even when they weren't, and this demonstrates why. I have no idea how I'll make music with some of these (especially the last few minutes) but this is next level!

    • @mr.apartment
      @mr.apartment  2 роки тому +4

      well the bigger pads definitely take more effort, but the small pads aren’t too bad. you can try loosening the screws on the back, that may help some. i took my m:s completely apart to paint it and when i put it back together i noticed that i tightened the screws on the back tight enough to make the pads harder to trigger. let me know if you try it

    Super interesting, thank you for sharing! One thing you are missing out on by not updating firmware is the ability to use velocity as a modulation source, but I can see the appeal of your slide toggle technique.

    • @mr.apartment
      @mr.apartment  3 роки тому +1

      haha i ended up updating for the ability to put multiple samples on the same track and thought that was worth taking the risk. and the slide toggle still works :) tell me more about the velocity modulation tho, i didn’t know about it

    • @minimal.camera
      @minimal.camera 3 роки тому +4

      @@mr.apartment Yeah, sample locking is the bees knees! OK, velocity modulation: FUNC + Back button opens the Pad/Vel Menu (Pad Config). Dst is Destination, set to whatever parameter you want to modulate, such as Filter Cutoff for example. DDep is Destination Depth, that's how strong you want the effect to be, can be negative or positive. When playing with this, I recommend treating the T1-T6 pads as pressure pads, as opposed to drum pads. Simply put, the harder you press, the more of the modulation effect you get. To further fine tune it, you can set the VDep (Velocity Depth) parameter to make the pads a bit less sensitive, which is often better. I generally set them to between 30 and 70, but it is always to taste.
      One of my absolute favorite things to do with this - load up any sample (especially a single cycle oscillator or wavetable), set sample length to 1, and turn on Loop. Now you have a 'synth'. Set Retrig to Always On. Set Velocity Mod destination to pitch, start point, or sample length, and set whatever DDep you want (generally 10 - 20 is good). Now you have a 'synth' that achieves threat-level bananas. Great for achieving those dirty, distorted synth type sounds that I'm sure you love as much as I do.
      Happy experimenting!
