9th Gen owner here, came from a fbo RSX Type S. I loved my rex, but honestly i prefer the torque of my 9th. As far as the top end power you can somewhat remedy that by just swapping in the RBC intake manifold & raise the redline higher (8 grand max). Or if you have the money you can swap the head & easily put down power while all motor.
Gerb Productions For real man, some of these 8th gen guys forget that the 9th gen is still a Honda, there’s still aftermarket parts out for these cars, even if the head is still a bit more restricted i’ve seen these put down 220+ whp on the dyno while fbo. Swap the head & you’ll get a unique but awesome sounding VTEC crossover & you’ll make good power too. There’s also the option of going forced induction which these motors will handle just fine.

Before i bought my 2012 FB6, I was looking at a 2010 FG2. I fell in love with the FB6 more. I like the styling, the comfort, and especially the k24. The torque on the lower end made a huge difference for me(helps tremendously during city driving).
The one thing about 9th gens is the rev hang is pretty bad with the short gearing. It's especially notable with the stock exhaust. Paint also fades like crazy on these 12-14's. Great cars though.
guy is definitely a dweeb. honda hat, honda shirt, honda socks, ebay everything. next year you wil see him on craigslist "2012 bolt on SI for sale or trade for 4x4 truck or jeep."

Depends on what you prefer but the sedan has the sleeper look which is why i got it. Plus it's only like 20lbs heavier than the coupe and the two doors is nice when you have passengers. Where I live it's cheaper insurance for the sedan which is another bonus, that's dependent on your insurance provider and location though.
I just sold my 2007 8th gen civic si and will be picking up a 9th gen 2012 4 Dr. I'm happy this video was here so I would break free somewhat 8k rpm was my life lol but it is time for a Lil change on for my commute to work and the car market is insane now on prices.
Nothing wrong with a 9th gen.. really don’t know why they get a lot of hate. They have great interior, comfort, and looks. 8k rpm is nice, but even now that I have a k24 engine revving to 7800rpm feels amazing plus all the torque. Good luck with the new ride 🤙🏼
Don’t get a 12 get a 13 14 or 15 the interior on those are worth the upgrade but it’s up too you of course the 14-15 have some suspension updates and I think the steering response was tuned a little different on them as well
The k24z7 feels better driving around town and those brave/risky/irresponsible moments when you dart between traffic. But can't beat revving out and sending a k20a.
I still prefer the K20 response and sound better than any k24. Test drove one new in 2012 si sedan before we got the 2013 ex, though would probably do TSX 6speed for a more sleeper look.
Damn bro that was one loud crossover for a K24! Dudes FB6 was fresh. Yo I was talking to you on instagram bro and this is the kinda video I wanted to do with you win my FG1 if you ever come back down from CT again.
Do you have a stock clutch master cylinder? if not which one do you have. I'm trying to make my shifts smoother, but for some reason I feel like the stock master cylinder has a shift delay? Thanks!
I have 8th gen but like the style of the 9th gen. Don't get me wrong I love both styles. If I had the money at the time I would have bought the 9th gen. Honestly I didnt knew they existed until 2 weeks after I bought my 8th gen. One pulled up next to me at a light.🤔🤔😐😐🙂🙂 Love your videos as always Gerb...🔥🔥👊👊
Agreed! I probs would've went 9th as well if i had the money. I do like the 8th gen on the highway though, high redline runs lol ;)... Thanks for the support my guy
In 2013 I was living in Puerto Rico, I was 18 years old at the time and went to a Mitsubishi dealership and took a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Gts 2014 stick, man what a car I went to a dyno a couple months after and the car make 156 hp a 150 tq 2.4 engine 4b12, I paid 500$ and reflash the ecu and the power went up to 185hp and 180tq and that was impressive for a Lancer and one day I race with a 07 civic si sedan stock and that fucking car star pulling when vtec kicks in and I was so impressed with the engine that I bought my first k20 car 2 years later an Acura Rsx Type S k20 z1 and the first thing that I do was go to a muffler shop here in Puerto Rico and make a 3 inch catless downpipe exhaust with a vibrant 3 inch and that was it and fuck man the car transform to a monster only with that unfortunately I sold the car because I was going to have a baby 👶 and thing change and I bought an Acura TSX 07 at the time know I’m living In Pennsylvania and I have the opportunity to buy another k series car but am not sure if buy a 8th gen civic si or a 14 -15 civic si, I like the looks of the 14 - 15 with the red interior but one thing that I heard is that vtec is not the same anymore, top end and transmission is a trash but I don’t know if the true and about the vtec I don’t know if that something that you gonna regret because I’m addicted to hear 👂 and feels the vtec kick I can buy the car only to feel the kick of vtec lol is so addictive 😂
Driving three 8th gen k20's before i bought mine sold me on them. I fell in love with the tranny, vtec, redline. Told myself i want one so bad & sure as shit, here i am, two years later ripping an 8th ;)... Type s's are sick man. I was looking into them before i bought my 07 Si, but i couldn't find any stock. Besides, i love the 8th gen looks + interior. The bolt ons you add to the K series are absolutely worth every dollar because they respond sooooo well for an n/a car. I will tell you this, i driven both. I prefer the tq of the 9th, but highway ripping is so much nicer in an 8th. It comes down to personal preference, looks/performance, etc. I'd say test drive both and then make you decision. I will say, the z3 makes better power > the z7 due to the high flowing head, vtec on both, instead of just having it on one side. Can't go wrong with a k24a2 from a tsx as well, they move. The vtec kick in the 8th is wayyyy more aggressive in the 8th > 9th. Hope this helps in a way ;)
Gerb Productions Thanks man💪🏻 I would do that to decide, I have to drive both to see what am going to do I’m going to let you know my decision peace ✌🏻
I finally bought one I decide to buy the 8th gen and I found it for a Real good price I bought it for 4,700 on a dealership in PA is a sedan 2010 with 137,000 miles has Hondata already, intake, straight pipe, coilovers, front lip, rear lip muggen, side skirt, jdm headlights, short shifter and a rear bar in a really really good condition is very clean and nice I can’t believe I found one si cheap in those condition am very happy
@@TheGerbsteve its because the design of the intake mani on the 9th. It's made for mid range power and doesn't have much top end. Plus with the integrated head and v-tec only on one side . It robs power. That's why the 9th need an rbc swap and bigger injectors to make the 230- 239 whp range
@@TheGerbsteve Its a full motor they said like 200 and something like that i think with a core. Maybe i should save up and pull that motor for the future?
No vtec serge...like b series...my b16a2 cross over is sick in stock form...im going Toda cam v tec killers...coming soon...nice car...good channel Gerb!💪👊
B series do sound nasty. I wanted an em1 Si before i bought my fg2, but couldn't find any stock ones lol. Toda cams are sick, she gonna pull. Thanks for the love bro, means a lot
I own a 9th gen si Coupe, it's great for daily driving and while I love it, I've driven my friend's 8th gen si coupe, and I like the character of the k20 ALOT better than the k24z7. The missing vtec cam on the exhaust side of the k24z7 is a real bummer, and while our integrated head setup is better for boost, the k20 is better for NA. Just my 2 cents. At the end of the day, I wish I got a 4dr 8th gen Si instead..
The 8th gen k20 definitely feels more of a race oriented Si with its high redline, true vtec, 8k rpms redline. Idk for me, I liked the 9th. Maybe I just like the torque a lot more? I hate how you have to rev the hell out of the k20 to make power, ya know? I hear you though, that makes since. No wayyy, he wishes he bought an Fa5 lol
@@TheGerbsteve that's the intoxicating part about the k20! Power up top! When I drove my friend's 8th Gen si with just a cold air intake, I knew the vtec was gonna kick in but I didn't expect it to kick that hard. I agree with you on the k24 though, there's a lot more torque around 3-4k. I think it all comes down to what you want/prefer/feel when driving. Mid range torque to sacrifice 1k rpm redline, or making most of your power in the upper rpm. And I know you can just take a k20z3 head and put it on the k24z7 so you can have vtec on the exhaust cam, but it's not cost efficient.
I bought the Ktuned one for the CMC it lasted 6 months then it broke. I was offered a replacement. But instead I just went to AutoZone and bought the EM1 2000 Honda CMC. The modded it and just change the piston rod. Looks exactly like the K tuned one but only cost $30. Upgrade with the Dot 4 fluid. Also I think it may have broke sooner than later because of my clutch upgrades. So far no problems
Nick Griffin interior doesn’t change driving experience broskie! By far 9th gen interior is a lot nicer but overall car performance in a 8th gen is better hands down! Vtec bangin is insane
Go for the 2013 Si sedan. Probably decently priced now.. Has that same interior layout as the 2012 you were in, but with that soft touch/pleather honda upgrade 👍
9th gens are ok but 8th gen is the last true si even the last true type R not to mention 8th gen also got an RR version aswell as the Mugen si it sounds better runs better and its true to honda with high revving engines not to take anything away from the 9th gen I love all hondas I'm a honda guy since day one but its been established that the 8th gen is faster aswell theres alot of videos to prove it I actually made one when mine was stock with my homies stock 9th gen we both been racing for about 15 years we both used same tires tripple 8s yes on stock cars and I won every time now I didnt beat him by several cars best was about one car another by 1 1/2 but he let off early there both great cars but the 8th gen is superior just reminds me of my sir eg with that loud b16 vtec hit which many of us love
Styling of 9th is better for sure but the 9th definitely needs a k20 head swap I'm doing a TVS 1900 on my k20 to get close to 450whp/300wtq My FA5 is FBO with 230whp on a dynojet
@@TheGerbsteve I've posted my setup on a few of your other vids... the TVS blower is still a little ways off for me as I just moved to Greenville, South Carolina area from Michigan. So I'm in the midst of buying a house, which takes precedence over my FA5 right now. Renting a house now while I look... renting a 4 bedroom house isn't cheap! LoL Currently though, I'm HR CAI, J35, port matched RBC, Alpha header, FR 3" exhaust, tuned by King Motorsports in Wisconsin. I have a lot of other mods but too many to type.

9th gen handling especially 2015 is more refined..had 2012 si then 2015..2015 handling is more predictable than the 2012 though..still could use more power and torque as well
That's messed up bro. You like the 9th more than the 8th? Makes me sad. Hahahaha! Jk jk. It's still a Si so no worries bro. I'm actually leaning towards a Corolla right now bro. Hachiroku to be exact. Been look for 2 months now. The original 86's. I have my eye on one. It's just a matter of time.
Gerb Productions I'm still keeping the Si I think. Hahahha. I'm looking at a project. It has no motor buts it's a GT-S coupe instead of the liftbacks. It's going for $1500 but the problem is I just need to find the time to go look at it and possibly bring it home.
Gerb Productions the reason why I say I think is because the wifey might not let me keep two cars. LOL!!!! 🤣 I wanna keep it because it's my first car I actually bought by myself and plus I'm the first owner so I want to pass it down to my boys.
Honestly I raced a 9th gen fbo and tuned just like me and my 8th and it was tied from 1st to 3rd but I started pulling top end most likely cuz of the higher rpms on my 8th
It feels like that cause of the little tq gain pushing more weight, your 8th is the way to stay lol, my friend traded his 2002 k20a2 Acura Rsx for a 9th gen si coupe he was getting dragged all day I don’t even recall him winning a race. He ended up trading for a 2017 Honda Accord. Don’t get 9th gens , you will end up quitting and getting a Honda Accord. Lol
Try a 10th gen Si, If you think a 9th gen is nice the 10th gen would blow your mind for the cost of bolt ons in either the 8th or 9th gen a 10th gen will make 270 to 290whp. If I was closer to you, I'd let you review my 18 Type R, only performance mod is Ktuner but it's putting out a claimed 340whp and 365wtq I plan on adding a lot more over the winter. I'm over in NJ though sadly. I came from a 10th gen Si though and only traded it in because I got an amazing deal on the Type R I also still have a 2011 Civic Si but its sitting right now...
You can thank turbo for that ;)... BRUH, a type R interview would be nasty... Where in Jersey are you, we should set something up. And you still have an 8th gen, damn my guy balling lol
I'm in South Jersey I'm right next to Ft Dix, the 8th gen was a daily while I was in the Army I brought it back with me, it's just sitting now though sadly. I'm down to set something up though
9th generation is indeed faster the top end does not matter if you turbo it just check out the red devil si from brazil. vs our 8th gen however I would not buy the 2012 would do a 14 or 15 the 12 would have bugs in it like the 06 and 07 do. ahhh ans the 8th gens vtec mmm. I want the 9th but I really just want the k24a2 from a tsx or a 2015 to get my torque bam I am happy
True, they say never to buy the car the first year it came out due to flaws. 8th gen vtec will always be my favorite. K24a2 i think performs just as well as the k24z7.
I drove in all my first car was 9 gen si love that car sadly she got total the torque was crazy but high rpm it’s weak then I got a 8 gen si fa5 torque is trash but the top end is crazy plus revs to 82k plus the fa5 best looking body style to date my homie gotta 10 gen si let me tell u it’s quite but that fukin thang moves man he got tsp1 ktuner cold air intake that shit gaps 8 and 9 gen put together I won’t say it’s the best si but it’s the fastest then the 8 gen best for n/a last high revving then the 9 gen good for boost with its 2.4
Adam Uberschaffenheiser 2012/13 are lighter than 14/15’s. 12/13 make 201hp, 14/15 make 205hp. Just comes down to which one has better styling honestly. I personally prefer the 13’ coupe fg4 si

Before i bought my 2012 FB6, I was looking at a 2010 FG2. I fell in love with the FB6 more. I like the styling, the comfort, and especially the k24. The torque on the lower end made a huge difference for me(helps tremendously during city driving).
Agreed 100%... It was cool to get the feel from the 9th gen.. Now ik why everyone upgrades to them
I own a FB6 now and love it I drove a fa5 and like it too but the 9th gen is much faster in high end
The one thing about 9th gens is the rev hang is pretty bad with the short gearing. It's especially notable with the stock exhaust. Paint also fades like crazy on these 12-14's. Great cars though.
Hated Japanese so much then gets into Honda game and get a tattoo of it on his arm 😂💀

9th gen sedan looks way better than the coupe.
@@brandonbohon4921 no.lol.
Sorry to say but no cams for the k24z7 well not yet for that matter.
JAY D3E to me k24 sounds more mean K20Z3 sounds like rice
Damn bro that was one loud crossover for a K24! Dudes FB6 was fresh. Yo I was talking to you on instagram bro and this is the kinda video I wanted to do with you win my FG1 if you ever come back down from CT again.
We will set it up if i come back down bro. His 9th gen was definitely one of my favorite cars to drive so far.
Do you have a stock clutch master cylinder? if not which one do you have. I'm trying to make my shifts smoother, but for some reason I feel like the stock master cylinder has a shift delay? Thanks!

RBC swap 😏

Yes. I-vtec on intake and they use the integrated downpipe on the exhaust

I need those blue lights. Any chance you could find out where i might get them for my 9th gen
I believe he got them on ebay.
So is the 8th gen more desirable than the 9th gen because of the 8k red line?
8th exterior 9th interior and drive train
9th gen Si Rule try a 2015 one you will love it.
I want to drive another one 👍🏼
I got a sedan 🤩 2015 3” cat pack exhaust and a skunk 2 cold air intake, car is where it’s at 🤩
With tune , Intake and down pipe only the 9th gen will make max around 115 who. You need rbc swap and rdx injectors to hit the 220-230 whp range
Damn, you would think the 9th would put down more, but 215whp is still good for minor bolts + tune.
I hear with RBC you loose tq though? The midrange is awesome on them though, for real

that roll kinda lacks top end.

With you saying the differences are slight... then i say 8th gen all the way.. revs, sounds better and loves boost more
Very nice car but your Si with k20 sounds 10 times better, no offence to the 9th owner.
Aou Celloutus 8 gen sounds rice 9 gen got 2.4 Acura engine sounds more mature a deep

Maybe you just got a bad one.

Very great points bro. The 8th gen si definitely holds the title for having one of the best top ends.
Styling of 9th is better for sure but the 9th definitely needs a k20 head swap
I'm doing a TVS 1900 on my k20 to get close to 450whp/300wtq
My FA5 is FBO with 230whp on a dynojet
9th gen styling is def better. I think it'd be good with just a RBC mani.

He ended up trading for a 2017 Honda Accord. Don’t get 9th gens , you will end up quitting and getting a Honda Accord. Lol
Dude I think you should build a k20/k24 you get the low end tq the k24 has with the high rpm the k20 has. Deff the best of both worlds.
;)
I wish the 8th gen had the 9th gen interior lol 😆
Agreed ;)
But I swear the tacho setup and dashboard for the 8th gen is just so satisfying to look at when banging gears
Okay, have you driven a low mileage 8th Si? Lol just sayin.....
I haven't
Vtec ain’t the same though, 8th gen is by far the best vtec in any si.
I agree, but both the 8th and 9th gens feel amazing

K24a2 i think performs just as well as the k24z7.

how you get that bounce sound @ 6:30
Bounce haha that's funny. It's called 2 step aka launch control. You have to have hondata to do that
I drove in all my first car was 9 gen si love that car sadly she got total the torque was crazy but high rpm it’s weak then I got a 8 gen si fa5 torque is trash but the top end is crazy plus revs to 82k plus the fa5 best looking body style to date my homie gotta 10 gen si let me tell u it’s quite but that fukin thang moves man he got tsp1 ktuner cold air intake that shit gaps 8 and 9 gen put together I won’t say it’s the best si but it’s the fastest then the 8 gen best for n/a last high revving then the 9 gen good for boost with its 2.4
Torque is very important k24 is best. will always pull harder than a k20 because of the torque
The 2012 2013 has a slightly different setup than the.2014 15 so 2015 for me it is quicker than thr 2012 and 13
Adam Uberschaffenheiser 2012/13 are lighter than 14/15’s. 12/13 make 201hp, 14/15 make 205hp. Just comes down to which one has better styling honestly. I personally prefer the 13’ coupe fg4 si
