good tutorial, but I'm a noob to farms and have no idea on how to layer multi farms on top of each other. how do I connect multiple looting systems when I expand this horizontally etc? Would have been nice to see how you do it in this tutorial.
The only way you can do it horizontally is to do something like putting sand on the opposite side of the water stream and the connect everything to the same observer, it’ll require more repeaters to extend the signal and may hit the sugarcane onto the other side of the sand so it’s best to do it vertically
this is a really nice tutorial but the only one thing i found a bit confusing was the scene cuts when it comes to placing the blocks around the hopper, i had to redo it a couple times but this was a helpful video !
Hey, seems I hit a little snag. It’s an awesome build, but the sugarcane closest to the observer seems to not grow at all. The rest are fine but it’s just that one. Any suggestions?
I’m having a problem with the farm, sometimes when the pistons break the sugarcanes the sugarcanes fall on the sand instead of the water so it doesn’t go into the chest
A lot of nice things have alreafy been said in the comments, so I'm gonna skip that. The completely filled chest is obviously stupid, that would take hours with this farm. As soon as you saw those sugarcanes laying on the edge you were like: okay fuck, just ignore them so noone notices
this farm kinda sucked I made it and it did not work at all when I do It manually I got way more sugar cane then this but It might be because I’m on bedrock idk but this sucked
for those who has questons i will awnser them 1. Is it expandable? Awnser: Yes, But you may need to get a bit more materials. 2. Is this farm only in Java or Bedrock? Awnser: Only Java But you can make a few additions to make it work in bedrock
If you want to make it extra efficient, put an observer above every single piston, and wire redstone dust behind it so that whenever any of the sugarcane are full height, its detected and broken instead of just that 1 block at the end.
"It isn't the most beautiful thing in the world...," Yeah my first attempt at making one was so bulky, uneven, and ugly I was glad I had a saved game prior to starting v so I didnt have to look at it or take forever gearing it down. It's gotta look decent or it ruins the coolness of my base.

Do i have to stand close to the farm in order for it to grow ? its been 5 days, and my sugar cane is same lenght. I have it near my house, but i am usually on the other side of yard
Depends, if it's Bedrock it can only grow when you are near it or if you run a command to have the chunks loaded. If it's Java, as long as it's in a spawn chunk it should auto grow, if it's outside you either need a chunk loader mod or be close
A lot of sugar cane gets stuck on the sand, build a rail system with a minecart with hopper underneath the sand, else youll waste up to 50% of the drops

Do you think on a large scale, say surrounding a giant trading hall / iron farm, that the water would be less demanding than a minecart collection system? The water collection has fewer moving parts and less redstone, that would have to make it easier for a Switch to handle, right?

You’re also gonna need to replace the sand with dirt cuz the sand will fall all over the minecart track and mess it up

and what if it doesnt cut the sugar cane when it reaches 3 blocks height

Sugarcane grows at 1 per 20 minutes. The point of this farm is that you can infinitely expand it
for those who has questons i will awnser them
1. Is it expandable?
Awnser: Yes, But you may need to get a bit more materials.
2. Is this farm only in Java or Bedrock?
Awnser: Only Java But you can make a few additions to make it work in bedrock
sweet farm just very slow a traditional grow and break big farm would be better
For some reason, I get barely any sugarcane
for some weird reason my sugar cane wont grow.
EDIT: IT CANNOT BE IN A COLD/FROZEN BIOME OR IT WILL NOT WORK
A spruce biome with no snow near won’t work?
If you want to make it extra efficient, put an observer above every single piston, and wire redstone dust behind it so that whenever any of the sugarcane are full height, its detected and broken instead of just that 1 block at the end.
Or just lower the observer 1 block, than it will power every time that 1 sugar cane reaches its second stage.
Except obviously that would create a terrible chain reaction of piston fire
Which ofcourse is easy to solve with a redstone torch burning out, so that the piston spam will be limited to a few times before getting reset.

Make sure the hopper is facing the chest. Replace the hopper while crouching/shifting and right click on the chest
this shit does NOT WORK. half of it get stuck on the sand instead of floating down into the hopper
