  • Banjo Kazooie was one of the greatest Collectathons to ever hit the market, and it's predecessor, Banjo Tooie, has been hailed as one of the greatest follow-ups to any game that's ever done it. Why don't we remember any Banjo Tooie levels, when so many praise the game as such a landmark?

    Title should be 'Why you don't remember this Banjo Tooie level...' I clicked on this because I was expecting some mysterious subliminal level or something.

      Yeah I hear that - intent wasn’t to mislead, just to point out that I really think that BT has a lot of levels that BK players (and lovers) never got around to playing for a number of reasons.
      I’ll def take this into thoughts next vid. Thanks!

      I hope that they catch on without trying to make a new genre of game - I think we all want the same games just a little less of them at times

      I definitely agree but just to play devil's advocate, there are players who loudly complain if they don't get enough hours compared to how much they paid for the game. If someone paid full price and it's a 6-hour game you're gonna have those players who are like "yeah it was good but for 6 hours it's really not worth that price" despite the tremendous development time and money being the same as a 20 hour game, but geared towards quality over quantity.

    Im pretty sure tons of people remember Cloud Cuckoo land from Banjo Tooie because of Canary Mary's second race in that level. So, just because *YOU* don't remember it doesn't means everyone else does.

      For sure! I think you’re totally right - my point wasn’t that nobody remembers cloud cuckoo land - though I did say that I didn’t remember it - my point was that BT in general is more forgettable than BK :)

    Tooie had less collectibles than Kazooie because of a few things, but mostly the note nests. Rather than collecting 100 notes on each level, you collect 16 nests and one treble clef.

    Cloud Cuckooland, and most of BT's levels, are better than BK's levels.
    In fact, it's weird that anyone would use Click Clock Wood as an example from BK, considering it's the largest level, is the most similar to any BT level, and itself instantly refutes the "less is more" argument... lol.
    Glitter Gulch Mine, Grunty Industries, Witchyworld, etc. are insanely iconic and replayable, while I basically hate playing through Gobi's Valley, Clanker's Cavern, and Rusty Bucket Bay.

  • @71gac
    @71gac Місяць тому +6

    I absolutely remember the level exists and I played it about 20 years ago, now you could make an argument that specifics of Tooies later levels are less memorable, but larger maps and longer play time generally causes that.

    • @dyneeoh
      @dyneeoh  Місяць тому

      It all kinda meshes together, doesn’t it? Hard to describe such an expansive game like BT

  • @Shamanized
    @Shamanized 28 днів тому +1

    I do remember and adore Cloud Cuckooland but yeah BK levels are just very classic. In my mind, BK levels are iconic, while BT levels are more interesting to me, especially in the overall themes. Plus the comparison to Cloud Cuckooland being more memorable is a LITTLE unfair because they make you play that level 4 times, once for each season, so it's definitely gonna be ingrained in your memory more. But if you compared Cloud Cuckooland to Rusty Bucket Bay as an example, I think the argument still stands that BT levels are a little less memorable than BK.

    Oh I thought someone discoverd a new hidden or uned level in Banjo-Kazooie, I was not expecting Cloud Cuckoo land and I was expecting something speacial in it.
    Banjo-Kazooie was my first game and I love it to no end however after years later that I got my copy of the sequel I've only played Banjo-Tooie once and sold it as soon as I beat it, the game was not fun for me and felt like a let down.
    Still a good game but not a great game, it just didn't felt equal to Banjo-Kazooie.
    And it was in part my fault as well since I started to play the game with all the cheatcodes I could, which thanks to that I try to avoid playing with cheatcodes at least in my first playthough of the game.
    Besides backtraking I think Banjo-Tooie due to all the dialog and cutscenes in the game.
    In todays standards Banjo-Tooie such be normal or small size for a game.
    - - - - - - - - - -
    I do agree with you that people might have more love towards a game if they have complated it than if they didn't beating a game feels great after all.
    but that cannot be said if the game is bad or you didn't like it at any point.
    I can remember well Cloud Cuckoo land visually but I don't remember the music, I might not remember the locations well, I do rmemember Evil Mumbo, tooty being in the lost milk carton poster and I've only played it once.
    I clearly remember Click Clock Woods front to back but that might be because I've played this game many times yet there are other games that I've also played only once that I think I remember their levels way more better than Cloud Cuckoo Land or better said I remember other Banjo Tooie levels better than Cloud Cuckoo Land and that may be due that the last level was not as fun or interesting than the other levels in the game.

    One of Rare's other games at the time, Jet Force Gemini, had this issue more prominantly as you basically had to 100% get all the collectables before you could get to the final boss which was too much of an ask for most players.

    "If you think I'm an idiot and I'm wrong, tell me."
    Well, I won't be doing that because I think you are correct. Games do not need to be insanely long to be good.
    I managed to 100% BK a few months ago; I also 100% completed RDR2 about one month ago. Guess which one was fun until the end and which one became a chore? Both fantastic games in their own right but one became a checklist of tasks while the other felt like fun optional tasks if I wanted to go all out.
    I think that many people also remember BT having more collectables than BK. It would seem the logical conclusion given that it takes longer to complete, but it is mainly due to the backtracking and levels being overall more complex, I think.
    If I do have one minor nitpick, it was that you may want to make the thumbnail image more clear. Between the title and the "Hidden levels" bit, I thought this might be a video about cut content or a secret hidden world that most players didn't know about. Imagine my surprise when it was about simply forgetting the world existing. Not trying to pick on you at all; quite the contrary, I thought this video was good and wanted to suggest improvements to help. It could also be my own misunderstanding as I've been up all night and English isn't my first language.
    (Also, I can never forget Cloud Cuckooland. That race against Canary Mary will haunt me until my dying days. 20+ years later and my thumbs still hurt.)

    • @dyneeoh
      @dyneeoh  Місяць тому +1

      That’s an awesome comparison between BK and RDR2 - I think it’s hard for people to compare two games that fall into such wildly different categories but you put it superbly - chores vs indirect coaxing.
      I appreciate the comment about the thumbnail too! My point wasn’t to mislead, just point out that I really think these levels are a “hidden” aspect of Banjo Kazooie that fans never got to play because of the way BT plays. I’ll keep that in mind for the next one!

    Uh most people remember Cloud Cuckooland, it's actually one of the most memorable levels not just in BT but in the series as a whole because of how much different it is than any other level along with the Canary Mary race, which is notorious for being the hardest thing in the entire game (although I personally don't agree with that as I never found it to be hard at all, there were many things I find to be much harder in this game).
