- Today Shelby and I head out to do some first ice walleye fishing in Hayward, Wisconsin. Shelby had never caught a walleye while ice fishing before and our day was made with a giant catch in the first 5 mins of fishing. In this video I talk about how to catch walleyes in the evening while ice fishing. I also discuss how to rig your tip ups to catch more fish. Walleyes are my absolute favorite fish to target while ice fishing and I hope this video helps you catch more walleyes this ice season! Thanks for watching!

The downfall is they usually catch the bigger fish too.
*These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*

Haven't fished the Chippewa since my HS day's in Minocqua. Used to duck hunt there as well as fish. We used to pound all the flowages around that area. I lived close to the Willow flowage but spent alot of time on the Rainbow flowage and the Turtle flowage. That was back in 89 to 93 though. Great video and some damn nice eyes.
Thanks for posting! It would be awesome if you could explain when to exactly set the hook on a walleye on a tipup? Do you wait 'til they stop running? What if they just run a few feet then stop? I probably hook up on a walleye on 1/4 flags, so I'm definitely messing something up

Wow you’re slamming eyes on the flowage. In the past, you’ve always said it’s not a great walleye spot - at least compared to the deep, clear lakes. Has something changed?
When all the fish in a lake get in the same pattern some lakes appear better than they are.
