Ahamkara's Spine is a beast in the Crucible. Almost nobody shoots at them, most people just run right through them to their deaths. With the Spine, I can always have a tripmine on the field. This is really useful in Rumble, when enemies are coming at me from multiple sides at all times, as I can just block off an entrance, and often net a kill. The Spine nets me sooooooo many more kills than I would have with normal tripmines, and far more kills than an extra Golden Gun shot would give me.

Hive Lord true but it still needs to be factored in. It was also very good for inferno, where you could cover your back using a tripmine due to the absence of radar
Hive Lord Even so, Rumble is not the only time you will be attacked from multiple different angles, I only used it as an example as that's what I often play.
I have all the hunter exotics and almost exclusively use YAS, it's amazing

The tripmine extension in Young Ahamkara's Spine is extremely useful during trials of Osiris.
Really great, informative video. I am reasonably new to Destiny (even though I bought it at release) and have little to no knowledge on what bonuses work and don't, and what combinations work well. They seem pointless however as you are only able to use them if you have not bought the Taken King and can reach level 40. I know it wasn't always like that, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

The RDM's are arguably the most underrated ones on that list and in general. For a max agility build BD, they are insanely good and my go-to PvP exotic. I cannot argue with their place on the list though, given that the others are more all-round (Don't Touch Me not included. They're good for the Abyss and that's about it.).
You should do this with weapons for each tier ex. Pulse rifles, shotguns, snipers, etc

Mask of the Third Man, Encore, and Razor's Edge work wonders when fighting hive since they bunch up. I was able to chain together almost all the hive that spawn at the beginning of the first Darkness Below mission, racking up a streak of about 35 in a short amount of time.
Pretty good video. I liked this one more than the Warlock counterpart, but I personally think that Mask of the Third Man is overvalued as a PvP exotic. I would probably say Lucky Raspberry is my preferred PvP exotic for blade dancer.
Great video although I definitely would of ranked Don't Touch Me a bit higher just because in the current state of the game (Crota Raid) they're very useful for a max invisibility build + they're all around fun to use.
As a hunter since the beta, I will definitely agree with 90% of this. I think don't touch me is a little undervalued as they can be very good in pve but that's about it.
Young Ahamkara's Spine is the only hunter exotic I use in Control. With a full discipline build, I can have two grenades out with one on a control point, and one on a traffic heavy choke point. With having a one-hit-kill potential open every 20 seconds for the full duration of those 20 seconds, I can potentially get more kills with it during the match as opposed to one extra kill every 3 minutes on my Golden Gun super. I average 1.9 k/d in control with grenades taking 32% of my total kills. I'd definitely recommend people to try them out at least.
I think your playing the game wrong... you should be using a gun.... you might get more kills then. Just joking but that's your opinion, mine and others differ. Also the thing with Supers is they aren't just for killing, they are to sway the match for a short time. Great to get rid of the enemy while you take B flag on a map like Shores of time, taking out 4 people is a huge help compared to 3 which isn't its in theory something like a 25% difference being on a six man team. (that is most likely wrong % but its still effectively the same) Destiny is less about K/D and more about winning.
I use symbiote because the extra golden gun shot is so good.
WasherGareth Don't know the exact maths but in a 6v6 game being able to kill an extra person is like a 20% increase in kill efficiency with your super. That's awesome even though I play a Warlock.
most of the time the fourth shot of he symbiote gets wasted, I really like ahamkaras spine because it lets you control zones really easy, and I usually get around 5 kills per game with grenades, if you place your grenades well, there's no way for the enemy team to destroy them.
When u put it like that, i wanna go try a build for it now!

I love Knucklehead Radar. The first Destiny related video I saw was the E3 gameplay way back when it came out and i knew I needed that helmet. I also really like inverse shadow perk. Other exotics are definitely better, but I just love how it looks too much to change.
I find myself using Don't Touch Me the most for most of the end game content. It really gives a massive survivalibility boost especially for soloing stuff like Crota's End and lightswitch nighfalls where one hit doesn't kill you. With the "right" burn and melee, it won't help obviously as one hit will kill you. The inverse shadow perk stacks with a Legendary helmet that has the same perk as well which is very nice.
For pvp using The Symbiote or Mask of the 3rd Man is a huge waste when your super is not up. I use Knucklehead Radar or Lucky Rasberry and when my super is up I switch to Mask or Symbiote. Same with the perks, crouch invisibility on until super is up and then switch to hungering blade. Never use encore in pvp, you need to kill more than one enemy at a time with either r2 attack for it to work at all. A normal slash kill won't give you back any noticeable amount of super energy.

I think that knucklehead radar is good for soloing the Abyss if you don't have don't touch me. You can use the strength to charge the blink strike faster and the grenade damage also helps. You can then go invisible with blink strike and get through the Abyss

Young ahamkara's spine is absolutely BEAST in PvP if you know where to place your tripmines (which I do). It pretty much allows you to be in two places at once because you can place one in one area then go fight enemies on the other side of the map. Esp useful in control/IB because it allows for great zone control. I will get at least one kill per life with tripmine in control. For me, this makes it more useful than even achylophage symbiote as I rarely get more than three golden gun kills regardless if I have the fourth round or not
What's your Thought on the "Bones of Eao"? :)
They have been my own personal "go to" exotic in PvP as a blade dancer (don't have the mask yet, sure it'l change when i get it.) since that 1 extra jump is coming in handy in alot of situations!
I can vouch for young ahamkhara's spine in pvp as it there are some clutch "trick spots" I've found on control maps where you can't see the grenades until it's too late, and I get a kill with the majority of the grenades I throw often getting postmortems. I would for sure rate it above dance machines/lucky raspberry/crest of alpha lupi. Even the achlyophage symbiote can be meh if there are only three enemies around anyway when you get your super. Overall I would highly recommend using this to practice with tripmines in pvp, many people underestimate them...

Young Ahamkhara's Spine is amazing for PvP. Many times I get a second grenade and the first one just killed someone. It good for blocking paths and killing unsuspected opponents. My best build until now was with that, vex, gunslinger and tripmine.
I would like to make the argument of how powerful Knucklehead is in the hand cannon throwing knife build. The primary radar can get you the jump on an opponent and the throwing the knife while moving into cover is an excellent place to put yourself in. In 6v6 if your skilled enough, you can engage one enemy, and move onto the next to kill it, no specifics required.
I think you're seriously underselling the Knucklehead. The radar is extremely useful when defending points whether it's in control or just around a corner. It helps you keep track of all enemies around you while you're shooting at people or just preemptively aiming, waiting for the person to round the corner.
Most people would probably decry the No Land Beyond, but I think this helmet also seriously helps with that, making sure you always know if someone is nearby while you're aiming and sniping.
Personally, I switch between the Achlyophage and the Knucklehead, depending on the map and my weapon loadout. I use the Achlyophage if I think I'll be able to get a lot of kills, whereas the Knucklehead is all about increasing survival.
This may be a few month old video but ahamkaras spine is great for me. Partially because it's the only exotic gauntlets I have...but, being able to kill without even knowing, say covering a control point is really useful. Good lot of points gained from a grenade defence kill...

Ive got ATS/arachnid and the only reason i havent gotten rid of it is because i cant be bothered to upgrade a different one and lower my level. Do you think i should swap it out?

By the looks of the Ahamkara's Spine, it should give you Encore as a bonus added to your Bladedancer Super.
Probably be too OP, but that is what I see being done here.
Keep in mind that I don't like Bladedancers, nor I use them, since I prefer to use Gunslinger a LOT more

young ahamkaras spine for pvp is definitely top tier ! easily the best pvp gunslinger exotic along with achlyophage symbiote, learning how to use this exotic effectively gives you a very rewarding playstyle, my number 1 for pvp all day.

My favorite exotic is ahamkaras spine for crucible because there are many instances where I pop my super and get killed immediately (because no added armor) or I don't see enough enemies to kill 3 or more people. I often get multiple kills after death from trip mines I forgot where I placed. Yes you can shoot them off the wall but like lightning grenades not a lot of people take the time in the middle of battle to shoot them off the wall rather than shoot at other opponents. I have gotten really good at placing trip mines in crucible that I never leave the tower for PvP without it. Datto, consider myself one person who values these highly. Now you know someone :)
Young Ahamkara's spine definitely gets outclassed by Achlyophage Sybiote, but I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten postmardem kills with it equipped. The trip-mine time pretty much TRIPLES (roughly 10 secs to 30 secs) and I run it with basically max discipline and get a second one before the first one even explodes.

DattoDoesDestiny do you think hunters/titans should get an exotic that mimics the sunsingers fireborn ability, yet instead of reviving and activating your super, it revives and depletes your super? Like trading your super for a revive?
Why all the hate for Tripmine grenade, Datto? You are aware that any grenade that has a "stand" (the Titan's Lightning and Suppresser grenades_ can both be shot to make them disappear, right?
Even after watching your video (great vid btw) I still can't decide if i should get rid of my young ahamkara's spine. Though it's not useful in pve, can't it be useful in pvp? Does anyone know for how long it extends placed tripmines?
The Ahamkara Spine is a beast for getting Postmortem, grenade and enforcer kills, its a exotic for me that i use often for the bounty use of it.

Strength is good for gunslingers. I love having a way to quickly damage or kill enemies and having that tool more often is awesome. Also I normally agree with you mostly but lucky raspberry above alpha lupi is ridiculous.
i feel like don't touch me and radiant dance machines would be amazing for the first part of crota. or something like a lightswitch round in the poe or nightfall.
Ive started using tripmine more often, pretty much because it's the best way to "kill enemies with grenades" and get that bounty. I normally use Incendiary, but I never ever get kills with it. On Control the Trip Mine is awesome, especially on Firebase Delphie when the game begins and you can simply throw one at the back of point B and wait. Kill every time. Same with B at Rusted Lands, A at Rusted Lands, and many many others.
Im the guy who expects that and waits for it, I shot grenades so often when hunters do that. But I agree, its a smart tactic and most people don't notice or care to dodge. I just wish Warlocks had a grenade you could stick to walls and have the chance to kill more then one person. Fusion grenade is great but its a single kill.

Lono RK Yes im complaining because Warlocks don't have a grenade that sticks to walls. We have AEO, Tracker grenades and one sticky that only nets one kill... It takes away a tactical ability that titans and hunters can use to get first blood kills by running to a flag and throwing a grenade out on a wall to get a kill.
Lono RK Not from personal experience... I die a lot more to Tripmine and Lightning then Fusion and I have over 400 hours in pvp.
I see your point, but Warlocks fusion grenade is far easier to kill someone with than a Hunters. They both have pros and cons, which is how it should be.
Don't touch me gauntlets are by far one of the top 3 exotic pieces, and lucky raspberry is defiantly in the bottom 3.

How does map knowledge help with knowing where people are? I'm talking about third eye and knucklehead radar here btw, but you said that knucklehead radar will become less useful the more you get to know the maps, but knucklehead radar provides third eye, which gives you the radar telling you where people actually are, knowing the map doesn't tell you if someone is crouch sneaking up behind you while you are in zoom on a sniper or scout rifle. You might know where they come from but it doesn't tell you when they're going to come.
When I play PvP, I always use the young ahamkara's spine, and use a lot of tripmines in specific locations where they wont see it untill is to late, its always fun. get a TON of kills using it.
I really got used to the radiant dance machines. They work really good with thorn and last word. Not so much with hawkmoon.
i like the arachnid. I usually use swarm grenade because i get the most kills with it out of all of the grenades. And so i get Super a lot more and since i usually aim down sights, the extra zoom helps me hit players from across the map where i might only see a portion of them, either from hiding, or them just doing something else. I dont know why everyone hates it :U
Datto I know you are somewhat of a pro at this game but I have to call you out on dissing strength for Hunter armor. Having Blink Strike ready to allow invis for either escape, revival, or other utilities. This makes Strength just as, if not more valuable, than Intellect (since Arc Blade is fairly weak) or Discipline.
Datto, I dont think you give Young Ahamkara's Spine enough credit. They are now my go to Crucible exotic especially for control

All that needs to happen to the ATS/arachnid to complete with the symbiote is have its main perk change to one of these two perks instead.
1. Give gunslinger extra health when golden gun is active.
2. Let's gunslinger select an extra perk for the golden gun.
These would battle the symbiot because you would sacrifice the extra bullet but get added benefits to the standard bullets.
(Just thought of another perk.
Make combustion perk stronger and better blast radius. )
The extra zoom in is useless an hinders you more than helps you because you can't see as much.

Make it so they can still one shot people, even with max armor. Everyone runs it now and its really annoying. It wouldn't be OP imo because the tripmine is really obvious, so if you walk into it, you are either a dumbass or you lost situational awareness

Hes absolutely right about the Dance Machines... Im biased towards them but thinking on it fairly, my fondness for them doesnt increase their value.
I have the hardest time not using the MIDA Multi Tool with the Dance Machines and Blink. All that agility grants such excellent teleportation, and i use strafing to help my align my headshots, so the Boots are a godsend.
Datto is a smart guy, his opinion and sources for these exotics are much more logical. I just cant return to the old ADS movement speed....
I like the Ahamkara spine for locking down doors.
after seen all datto’s videos of exotic armor i agree with the hunter’s list, with titan... i have to play more but warlock i disagree totally with obsidian mind and voidfang vestment and my main character is a warlock axion bolt are slow but powerful i have evade many bolts chasing me by running away from them and OM is not suited for my super aggressive style and being able to regenerate is mid battle by drop a nova somewhere i have more experience with a warlock and he has more exp. with a titan
The Don't Touch Me exotic also allows Gunslinger Hunters to go invisible as well. Just an FYI
Do u get thus gear from doing raids and strikes?
When I use certain exotics, I have only strength (like 500 I think). It kinda sucks because I don't even need that much to have the 100% recharge boot and the knife isn't the best (still good sometimes though), but I don't care because I don't even notice the boosts most of the time. I think it's sweet though that with 100% strength and the ability that makes blink strike recharge faster, I get my blink strike back in about 5 seconds.
Overall my abilities are underused. I usually use Gunslinger but I never use my super in PvE (either enemies are too weak to waste it or bosses that are bullet sponges, or majors that have to be a certain point in their health for me to kill with it and make orbs), and I hardly use Arcblade outside of Crota's End and farming Dark Beyond.
I would like to see your review over the celestial nighthawk, I'm currently using it and it is fucking amazing fully upgraded although I only get a golden gun shot with x6 power
Its mostly a pve type of exotic. When you have archon preist or a high tier boss its very useful. STAY AWAY FROM IT ON PVP! You only have 1 shot and if u miss then its over.

I hate that Kuckle head radar is marked down so bad. It's ability is used 100% of the time so you can fully use the ability to its max while the other helmets are super only, and also that means you can give those third eye primaries to your other guardians. My point is it's the better of the helmets because it can be used 100% of the time
On another note you may know the layout of the map but that doesn't tell you if there's an enemy there. So you can aim down sights without having to let the button go to see if they changed directions. And using word of crota with patience and time with knucklehead is a deadly combo but I guess you're right about preferences I love it though
i prefer knucklehead over any hunter exotic, probably since i got used to the perk, but i love cause i need to know where the enemy is
Radiant Dance Machines are great in both PvP and PvE. The only players not valuing are those that don't strafe much. (I see a lot of this in Destiny).
I think Don't touch me can be one of the best depending on your play style. Example if you are more of a berserker paladin style its great. Also you can get it on purpose to get invisible. With my play style I would say it is the best exotic if it wasn't for lightswitch.
hmm i would like to have arachnaid it saves me extra slots on a stat tree, i can be accurate and still explode my opponents, and insted of using long range perk i can coontinue having two knives.
I would use LR much more if the main bonus was different. It's fun to use from time to time but it just lacks for high tier enemies in my opinion.
at 03:59 either Xbox One or you got the crappiest radiant dance machines ever. mine on PS4 gives you the option to chose either solar, void, or arc to increase defense based on that sub class and you can move faster after that type of element double kill.

the discipline, strength, and intellect re-roll each time the exotic armor piece drops so it doesnt matter what YOUR version has because my version can be different
knucklehead radar is a bit underrated..Even though 2 of the perks is useless in crucible but that 'third eye' perk is just so valuable sometimes..
But an extra Golden Gun shot or Arc Blade uses less energy is just toooooo good

If the mask is better than the dtms then why does lepord, the hunter of your group, have them maxed and not have the mask maxed
I think knuclehead radar and radiant dance machines are two of the best pvp exotics of all three classes, since im a cod background guy, the radar is everything, at least for me, and quick movement is too good for gunfights, I hope there were versions for titans.
What about kerpi's sting?
Young Ahamkaras Spine is very good for PvP ... It makes the Grenades last 5 times as long as without and with these Gauntlets you can finally use it like a tripmine ...
The Don't Touch Me *would* be even better if it focused on strength because they would cool down your escape artist melee and go invisible even more.

Why does Bungie like to put Fusion Rifle Ammo on a lot of Exotics? Especially after Nerfing them into the ground. I just wish Exotics would have More Primary or Special or Heavy Ammo then there other stats.

Young Ahamkaras Spine is nearly OP in iron banner. You can throw a tripmine on b flag. Take a cup of coffee and bam you get a triple kill. Outside iron banner i kinda agree with ur opinion about Y.A.S
If I'm playing as blade dancer I use knucklehead radar. When gunslinger I use Kepri which if you solely play gunslinger is the best exotic armor piece.
