      Honestly man, if your wife says she's gonna be leaving you if you buy a bike, you're better off with someone else. You're your own person, and I understand it takes two people's sacrifice to make a relationship work, but never give something up because someone threatens you with leaving. That's just childish to be honest

    It’s crazy, I watched so many reviews on the iron 883 because I loved it from the moment I saw it, and watched plenty of your videos with the iron and your new bike, then I saw the scout and loved that one too. Because of how familiar I got with your style and videos, I feel like this is the review I would trust on the Indian scout. Long story short, thank you for the videos Blockhead.

      As a scout owner, it is NOT for long cruises. You'll get maybe an hour before your butt is numb and you wish you hadn't. I'm thinking about about swapping mine for something more comfortable, like a softail, dark horse, or rock slab.

    I test rode a 2016 Indian Scout that was a trade in (for a Chieftain) and had aftermarket slip on pipes. It sounded almost as good as a loud Harley with aftermarket pipes. I love that the bike just pulled and pulled and pulled (even in top gear.) I'm 5' 9" and fit well on the bike. Once I got used to the lower center of gravity, I was good to go.

    I am vertically challenged and picked up my first bike Indian 2016 Scout 69 with 3600 miles. Being only 5 ft, it was the first bike I could sit flat foot on. I love it. My only complaint is doesn't have the Harley sound, but changing pipes might make it get that sound. It is a super great bike.

    • @purdyquibb
      @purdyquibb 6 років тому +2

      starducky72 I agree about the sound. I went with Vance and Hines 4in slip on exhaust and boy did it wake it up. Lots of UA-cam videos on those pipes. Can’t say enough about how good it sounds. It still doesn’t sound like a Harley, kinda got it’s own distinctive sound which I think is even better because I didn’t want a Harley. Just something for you to check out if interested. Be safe and congratulations on the scout!

    Just bought a 2018 Scout today. I've always like Indians for a couple of reasons. In the mid-70's, they made a handful of small bikes. 50-125cc. I had the 6-speed, 70cc motocross bike. It was a real competitor at that time. The 125 radial fin put out as much HP as the Honda 125 CR at the time. They were called the Elsinore then. They faded away, I got older and didn't ride any more. I've pondered getting a bagger over the years and always kept my eye on the Indian line for posterity's sake. Keep in mind, I wouldn't buy a bike with a crappy reputation or bad reviews. My best friend of 40+ years had the Indian 4 speed back in the day and today he has a street glide and his son has a soft tail slim. That soft tail is what got me wanting a bike again. He had after-market pipes on it and it sent chills down my spine when I sat on it and fired it up!
    But, I don't like being like everybody else. I want a Chieftain but I'd have to save for a few years, (I pay cash. Don't believe in debt). But that soft tail just rumbled and I knew I had to have a bike. I went to the dealer in Chandler, AZ today and it happened to be Indian demo day. I knew what I wanted and was ready to deal. I got a Scout with some upgrades. We'll see how it pans out. I'll pick it up tomorrow...My plan is to trade it in in a couple years for a Chieftain.
    What I wonder is, why do all these reviews slip by all the features and just go on a ride? An example is the one-touch start. My buddy's Street Glide and his son's Soft Tail require you to hold the starter until it's running. The Indian's don't. But they don't point that out. That's actually a good feature. It saves on your starter, etc. All of these reviews are "go-pro" reviews with commentary but never actually address the bikes features. Just the ride, pick-up, braking, etc. Anyway, I'm a first-time "big bike" buyer, big for me anyway. I just found that kind of strange.
    Update: This review noted the one-touch start but 99% of the reviews never mention it.

    The new scouts are so bloody beautiful man. They're mad good looking. The light weight and power to weight ratio is RIGHT up my alley as a skinny dude. Got an old vulcan 500 and this makes so much sense as a progression.
    How is it for tall dudes? I'm like 6'2" with 32" inseam. I see some increased reach accessories.
    EDIT: Crap, that 5'11 guy was having trouble. I'm boned.
    Super torn between this and the Yamaha Stryker 1300.

  • @mr.b3168
    @mr.b3168 6 років тому +2

    For anyone testing out the scout. Word of advice. It redlines at 8300 and you don't feel the real power till after 4000RPM . You find yourself bracing yourself at 6000rpm. You can go to 60mph before shifting to 2nd

    • @hooahayes
      @hooahayes 6 років тому +3

      Not quite 60, you have to go to second for a 0-60 run, but the bike loves no lift shifts. And you are correct about the power, soft rev limiter kicks in at 8300, decent acceleration from 3k-5k. Make sure your ass is firmly planted from 5k-8k.

    I know a tach is not necessary on a cruiser since you usually run in the bottom of the powerband but I prefer to have an analog tach on my instrument cluster. Digital just does not cut it. You can read an analog instrument at a glance. I do like the scout, especially once its modded a bit. That upcoming1200 flat tracker lookalike thats coming out should be a blast.

I had been thinking sportster just because but when you did the dyno tests and the Indian test ride of the new chief I started thinking Indian and this vide I went to my local Harley shop on my birthday and the bike I had been looking at online was there next to a used dyna the previous owner traded it for that dyna and we got to talking and I worked with his sales guy and I committed to it before it even got brought to the garage. It’s a 2016 scout 60 in red already had saddle bags and sissy bar mustang seat and Vance and Hines all the things I would have done to a stock bike were already done! Thank you BLOCKHEAD!! The name has been sold off so many time plus bankruptcy, it took Polaris to bring the brand back. Indians heritage as an American company has been so diluted that its lost its soul .. just my opinion ... also look at what happened to Victory. How much borrowed time does Indian have? I road that bike with the large apes ... was it a nice bike sure.. did it feel like a Japanese bike? It sure did, at that point i"d much rather buy a Yamaha or Honda . Indian is trying to be what once was.

    • @juwon1234
      @juwon1234 6 років тому +7

      Am not an expert on bikes and their history, but you have to say to yourself sometimes trying to keep your market while not catering for others newer and younger market could and will kill the business. Indian / Polaris had to do sometime different, try something different in-order to compete in bike / cruiser marker.
      They already lost to Harley in this department, will lose to the Japanese market if they try to compete in that department so the did what next best. Bring the the two world together, give you the American cruiser look with the power like the Japanese bikes.
      Simply what am trying to say is they need to evolve just like Harley is kind of doing. They also need to push on their advertising and awareness campaign.
      My only grape with Polaris is that they shouldn't have killed off Victory, they could have just merged it into Indian, but I do understand their reasons for killing them off. Money, profit.

    Hey man, I have a question...in your opinion what do you think is a better bike harley 48 or indian scout bobber (as a first bike, and/or bike in general)? I want to start riding and I want to get a bobber bike,and these two are on the top of my list. Great videos btw!!

    I rode the Scout (I think it was 69) last weekend at the indoor test ride track of a motorcycle show. The engine is peppy but the bike felt tiny (in pictures/video it looks bigger) and I hated the mini apes it had (feels like operating a wheelbarrow, only narrower). However, the bike looks good and besides the mini apes was good to ride.

    I asked about the Indian bikes vs Harley on reddit when doing some investigation of these bikes, and a guy who's a tech for EagleRider came in and explained these bikes very often have starter issues and failures:
    Hopefully my comment isn't lost in the ether. I work as a service manager for EagleRider, as such I have quite a bit of experience with Indians.
    I do not like the scouts. They're fun to ride around on. They handle well and they have decent power for what they are. I'd say they're faster than an XL1200. However, they're cheaply made and a pain in the ass to work on.
    Their starters go out all the time. I regularly have customers on rent with starters that fail or have issues with starting, it just won't get going. The scout starter goes out so frequently, and Indian/Polaris knows it, that they've been on and off backorder for the past 6 months. I can't keep them in stock.
    Their horns also fail all the time. Now, most bikers don't use the horn. You can't hear them. But if you're the kind of guy that cares, they fail. They suck. The bikes also just generally feel cheap and plastic. Same with the big Indians, though your question wasn't about them.
    If you like doing your own maintenance the sporty is the far superior choice. To replace an air filter on a scout you have to remove the gas tank, kinda like a crotch rocket. Same with spark plugs.
    They aren't BAD bikes I just have a distaste for them brought on by seeing their failures and hearing my techs bitch about them far more than they do any Harley model.

      FranBunnyFFXII ok the first scouts 2015's starters not as good. But since then Indian has really improved on the scout. I have 2017 Scout and have not ridden it two months coz of the winter. Recently one day it brightened up to 40°F, I cranked the start button and out started right away.

      EagleRider=rental bikes. Rental bikes=abused bikes. You're going to get a lot of inexperienced riders who don't know how to not be abusive, or ypu're going to the highly experienced who don't want to beat the shit out of their own bikes..

    • @FranBunnyFFXII
      @FranBunnyFFXII 6 років тому +4

      Yeah, and it's a pretty good indicator of what will fail faster and what holds up to abuse better.

    Half of the hype behind this bike is because of the insane powerband, and you didnt test its acceleration at all! Kinda made for a disappointing review. This bike could easily outrun your HD and you made it seem like just another 1200....
    Dont get me wrong, I love watching your reviews. I just feel like the Harleys get special attention for some reason

      Get one of the new Street Bob’s with the 114ci. in it, you’ll never even think of either of the Scout models (1130cc or 980cc) again.

    • @redsolocup7854

      You can't get a Street Bob in a 114ci only 107ci. Unless you pay the dealer an extra 3000 installed for a 114ci upgrade, pipes and intake. The Scout is also a faster bike 0-60 and 1/4 mi. It runs as fast as a 2017 Lowrider S but just behind a VROD.
