I still prefer the classic "I don't think so, you fucking rat!" followed by the explanation that Aqua with KH1 Kairi's heart would not take anyone's shit.
13:30 not sure if you’ve made this connection before but it’s one I read from Tumblr long ago that I really enjoy: The TVA trio are reflections of the three princesses they visit first. - Terra gets possessed by Xehanort just as how Aurora gets possessed by Maleficent. - Ven falls asleep and is kept safe in a chamber just as how Snow White falls asleep and chills out in a glass chamber. - Aqua leaves behind her armour and her keyblade for her friends just as how Cinderella leaves behind her glass slipper for her Prince. All this coupled with how their representative colour palettes conveniently line up with the Disney princesses’ stations of awakening just ✨tickles✨ me.
Yeah this was my favourite thing I learned about KH recently, and my favourite thing in this video. It kinda blew my mind and you made it even better by sharing that.
Oh also the first three station of awakenings are Green, Blue and Red, SDGs colours. Which are the 3 colours of light. And Aero spells are green, blizzard spells are blue and idk about Terra but Xehanort clearly has earth magic cause he keeps moving rocks in the KBG.
@@couchpotato3197 yeah Earth Magic is definitely Terra’s signature, I love that all the BBS trio get some powerful spells with their representative element It’d be cool if Sora did too, but I guess he’s kinda the jack of all trades (even though his name mean sky so... I bet his representative thing is less an element and more of his acrobatic abilities)
Days has the group I care the most about other then sora's group. But the idea of not being able to remember someone but still remembering they existed vaguely. Like that is probably my biggest fear.
Whenever the Birth by Sleep opening played, I would always say to my sister that Terra was running from the darkness and Ven was running from the truth (because he lost his memories) in an attempt to hit her right in the feels and in an attempt to make myself sound deeper than I really was. That never gets old.
Okay, real talk... this has got to be one of the best videos you have ever made. I mean that wholeheartedly. Not only is your analysis of each games' opening thorough and appreciative of what each of them has to offer, but the way you described the more emotional and impactful moments in them had palpable love behind it, and ngl... It made me get a little choked up. All of this to say that you just keep surprising me with just how much passion you put into your projects and I'm so, so proud of you, bud. Keep it up, Patty. ✌🏻❤️ (PS: The Sean Connery "Shubshcribe" at the end had me on the floor. 😂)
DDD is my number 1 or 2 personally. Watching it on the 3DS legit never failed to make me cry. The book theming, the timing of actions plus music, and yes Mic jumping screens is pure magic and no one can tell me otherwise.
I love the 0.2 remix like it went SO HARD and it didn’t need to but I’m so happy that it did. When the trio were all holding hands I remember needing to take a minute and process how good that opening was it’s just so beautiful
With the BBS opening, I also like how the three wayfinders that turned into station of awakenings morph into Mickey's Star Seeker keyblade chain, sort of symbolizing how he's supposed to be carrying on the memory/search for the trio in current times
I think the 0.2 one might be my favorite. The song is amazing, especially that emotional buildup leading into the “You’re giving me”, and the skydiving part is probably my favorite moment in any of the openings in the entire series.
Watching this the night before my wedding to calm my nerves… Thanks for putting out reliably great content and giving me a distraction to keep me sane before all the craziness!!
3:13 Feel more funnier when you realise, at the time Re COM was release in the US the Unknown fight was Japan only being part of the Final Mix content, imagine having only played original KH1 cause FM wasn't release at the time, you are watching the KH1 cutscene and then you see that shot and you are like "wait what the heck was that ?"
So, to be honest, until about a year ago I didn't even know much about KH1 Final Mix, let alone the extra secret boss. So whenever I would see that scene, I just thought it was something cool and symbolic, like when Riku descends in Hollow Bastion and becomes Ansem. When I first saw the cutscene where that actually happened (just a few months ago), I was quite shook lol.
I didn’t really care for the fact that Unknown was in the opening cutscene or in the memory flashbacks in KH2 because he plays nearly an insignificant role into the story. He was being something called… oh I don’t know… BUILT UP
My faves are KH1 and 0.2, they definitely set the emotional stakes of the game better than the other ones, less concerned about literally telling you what the story is about or recapping, and more concerned with putting you in the space of the characters. KH1 in particular is brilliant if you view it as something that Sora literally saw in a dream before he goes to the Dive to the Heart, and then "wakes up". 0.2 is good because it's more concerned with telling you how Aqua is feeling about Ven/Terra than recapping precisely what happened to them.
Man, if anything, this video reveals a ton of little details and connections that I never noticed. It surprises me that I'm still learning stuff about KH1, about 17 years after I first played it.
Passion is even more synchronised with the opening than Sanctuary. Namely during the ending, where the lyrics translate to "Under the beautiful blue sky, we slept forever", which is exactly what happens on screen before the cut. Or "If we move forward, will we ever meet again" when Sora and Kairi become separated in the middle of the intro. I don't know exactly how KH3's opening isn't as well-timed and synced to the music as KH2 though... that's been my number one praise for it ever since it released. Dive to the Heart shattering, the absolute entirety of the Destiny Island sequence, the beginning and end of the 358 sequence, then Sora fighting each antagonist, they set up with the song so perfectly. The only time where the intro falls is in the final battle, but it's still at the least, very much synched up with the music. Also, 358/2's DS opening is much different than the ReMIX version, superior as well. A shame they didn't upscale it like they did with Re:coded, as the ReMIX version is just random clips with no relevance to the song playing over it.
I’m glad to see 0.2 so high. You perfectly described the range of emotions the Ray of Hope remix somehow manages to conjure in my poor nostalgic heart lol. Thank you. Stay well out there everybody, and God bless you friends. :)
I watched this video for the first time right after starting KH3 for the first time (a month or so ago, so I wouldn’t be spoiled at all). I watched it again just now after completing the entire series, and it hits even harder. Don’t know what my ranking would be, but I love your analysis of your list. Great job!
7:15 you know this part really weirded me out too, until I learned that axel actually hates sea salt ice cream, he just ate it to be with roxas and xion
I'd say kh3 face my fears is the culmination of all the games and characters leading up to it plus the quote at the beginning I absolutely love it the sora quote gives me chills every time.
The simba summon animation at the end of the 3D intro is a callback to the first use of the orchestral version of simple and clean in some kh1 promo material. At the same point in the song we get sora summoning simba, then a cut to the title.
I am so so glad you agree with me that the Fragmentary Passage opening is one of the best. That Ray of Hope remix slaps so fucking hard, and the visuals are so fun. God I love that intro.
I'm a girl who grew up with two brothers. We love video games, and growing up on pokemon, we often assign each other certain characters and stick to them for life. For example, when we play Pokemon, I must always get the water types, my next brother grass, and my eldest brother fire. Every time. And we apply this kind of assignment to pretty much every game we play. With that being said, kingdom hearts has been our SHIT since I was about 4. The two boy one girl dynamic (kairi sora Riku, axel Roxas Sion, etc.) always made us feel like we were fated to play it lol. I was probably 6 or 7 when we got birth by sleep and let me tell you- There was nothing more hype than each of us picking one of the characters, beating the game on our own, and then coming together and telling each other how each person's file went so we could piece together the story as a group. It was just- the coolest thing. I was aqua, my next brother was ven, and my eldest brother was terra. The three of us, three characters, and one PSP. Probably some of the happiest times of my life.
8:50 The best thing about your sense of humor is just how subtle it is. I love how this implies that you are in fact proud to have had the Pokemon: The First Movie soundtrack as a significant portion of the songs played on your walkman.
I'm very glad you touched on all the exact reasons why KH2's opening is the best. I'm biased about it for sure, but it has a cohesiveness that just stands above the rest. Nothing beats the pixelated CoM transition or Kairi and Namine voicing the lines of the song. Just untouchable. Although I think DDD's has the best CGI in the series.
Can I make the CoM sequence even more awesome for you The keyblade swings from Sora as he’s running up the stairs swatting away shadows are synced to the beat and I LOVE IT Edit: actually I’m pretty sure almost every attack from sora is synced to some beat of the music THIS INTRO IS SO GOODDDDDD
Adding into the greatness of the DDD opening on 3DS. When Mickey does the split when Roxas is created, he not only splits, but his original self fades out when it happens. I might be thinking too into it, but I like to think it represents Xion in how she is also a version of Sora during that time and fades out of existence entirely.
I literally cried when you showed and described the number 1 and 2 spots. This video game series is just so beautiful and I'm happy that we're all connected through it ❤
27:32 somebody once pointed out that since the Oathkeeper keyblade is meant to symbolize Kairi and the Oblivion keyblade is meantt to symbolize Riku, Sora can be seen as "dual-wielding" the Oathkeeper and Oblivion, foreshadowing his connection to Roxas
Pat, when are you going to rank every Keyblade in each game? You promised in your Best Rooms video you’d rank your favorite pixel in each Keyblade, but first you need to rank the Keyblades as a whole!
DDD is my absolute favourite by far. I love the other top 5 as well but this is the one that I show to people to get them to understand how crazy and emotional the Kingdom Hearts series is
I love this so much. Kh as a whole has always meant so much to me and I definitely go through phases where I’m super into it and I’m in one of those phases rn lol. Glad to hear someone else really enjoyed 3!! It’s a beautiful game. Intro always gives me goosebumps!
I just found your channel in the last year but has become one of my favorite kh channels and now I know your anniversary is the same day as my birthday nice 🙂
Simple and clean (and that KH1 opening) was so impactful to me that just thinking about it still gives me chills. Surprised to see it so "low" at first but it makes sense when the rest of the list is taken into context.
Nothing compares to KH1's opening for me. It was the best Christmas morning I ever experienced. If I could living in a moment for all eternity, that's the one I'd choose.
Words cannot describe the validation and dopamine boost I received when KH2 won first. Sanctuary slaps harder than SAC and FMF/DTT! Fight me! That and, there's just something so memorable about KH2's intro. Sora leaping off the tree, the fight through rising falls, Riku turning into Ansem, the door to Kingdom Hearts, the infinite stairway, Riku v Ansem and Sora v Marluxia, Naminé's room, Sora flying over the ocean, the Destiny Island sunset, and the Roxas reveal. each equally give me goosebumps every time. KH2 earns it's top spot. Not just because it's intro is iconic and beautiful, but because it precedes one of the greatest games made for the PS2.
16:02 Not only it shows the sora getting cloned to roxas, but you can also see a third mickey in the middle,a detail that was kept in the re-release,they could remove it but they didn't,i'ts Xion, briefly showing up,being "born" at the same time Sora splits up and forms Roxas
I freaking love all of these videos so much, no matter what you put out, it always is so full of great content, and it makes me so happy! Keep up the great work man!! My Kingdom Hearts experience wouldn't be the same without ya!
Dude I still get choked up every time sanctuary comes on, and I’ve heard it a billion times. Good ol limewire back in the day. I’ll take a virus for this song any day.
Your description of the 358/2 Days opening hit the nail on the head, regarding my own experience. It was my first KH game, and so, being a blank slate like Roxas, I totally believed it all.
Funny fact about 358/2 days. It was the only Kingdom Hearts game I ever played as a kid. I only actually got KH1.5+2.5 like, 3-4 years ago. Little kid me was EXTREMELY confused the entire way through.
What made DDD's intro even more special was how it used both of the screens on the 3DS, with Mickey doing the hand wavy stuff at the bottom and the video proper happening above. Pretty neat. Edit: oof, and you decide to talk about that just after I finish and posted the comment.
Man, remember the time when, if you wanted to watch one of these openings, you had to grab the disc and start a new game because you couldn’t just pull them up on UA-cam yet?
That goddamn staircase scene with the guitar in KH2's opening is one of the best things my senses have ever experienced. I'm so glad to see someone appreciate it as much as I do. I went to rewatch both KH1 and KH2's openings, and I didn't get any chills until the moment I got to that scene. It is inexplicably satisfying the way Sanctuary fits with the visuals. I still think about it often to this day.
Its not a synth and garbage dubstep song like what Skrillx did to Face My Fears. A perfectly okay song, ruined by his contribution. Even Utada Hikaru stated in an interview she genuinely disliked the song
ANOTHER PAT VIDEO MY FANART IS IN, CAN I KEEP THE TRAIN RUNNIN Seriously tho, thanks again for the wonderful video! Really reminded me how high production the KH intros are and I _still_ got emotional at the KH2 opening. Thanks for putting all of it into words! I'm gonna to rewatch all of em now
I'd like to know where you'd put the, for lack of a better word, "second oppening" to KH3, the one that actually plays every time you put on the game. It would probably would be low, since it's just a recap.
3:20 I think they did it because canonically the Xemnas encounter happens in roughly the time Sora is in Hollow Bastion, and they probably mixed up the exact order of those three scenes because they were close enough and they wanted either a certain visual or they wanted it to match up with the music
So good. You have so many little great jokes and pretty much lined up with my take. I feel like people who started with KH1 back in the day probably still have that nostalgia from KH2's opening just hitting our impressionable young little minds embedded somewhere.
I remember KH2 op was put in bewtween commercial on the Animax channel. The stairs drawing transition to 3D was what hook me up with KH forever. Also I remember being really happy with 3D intro, the story was finally moving forward...! just not by much, oh well.
I remember feeling so clever when first seeing Sora and Riku fall back to Destiny Islands at the end of KH2 and thinking "wow, so thats why sora was falling in the KH1 intro??maybe?" Still, what a way to work that into the plot somehow.
I like the kingdom hearts recorded one because if I wanted to introduce a friend or a colleague of what kingdom hearts is it’s a perfect summary of both the Disney and the kingdom hearts exclusive plot points, I never get tired of seeing their mouths drop and seeing their minds scrambling to try makes sense of what exactly he or she is watching and how does it all tie together.
I hadn't seen several of these because I didn't play every game. The 0.2 intro was freaking amazing! I should try that game out since I like Aqua. I agree that KH2 is probably the best intro. I love it so much! I also love KH3's intro. I pretty much agree on almost everything in this list.
7:08 I think this too, and I can't tell if they're using Ansem's model for it or if it's just like a basically bald Xemnas with an expression we don't normally see or what
@Regular Pat 12:51 i interpret it as (Terra) “the pureness(white) of terra getting taken over by darkness” (Ventus) “memories fading (white) while ventus tries his best to keep remembering them, or him being scared of the future” also foreshadowing union X
By the way, have you listened to Simple and Clean and Sanctuary backwards? The names Riku and Ansem show up in those songs respectively. "Yeah see where Riku walks, moving" and "He was Ansem" So yeah I guess the songs don't really have anything to do with KH but that's neat at least.
Theres a weird thing with the kh1 and 2 themes where like. I got into this series in 2018 with the ps4 collection so I don't really have nostalgia for the series but something about them makes me nostalgic for that time period. Also I listened to the 0.2 theme like 10 tens before actually starting the game when I first got to it so I'm glad to see it here.
When you said “literally all of us are Sora ok, grow up. Well I guess we’re all..” then flashed a picture of Xehanort on the screen I couldn’t help but just out laughing because of the accuracy. 😂
I still can't believe to this day that they haven't fixed Cinderella's Hair being colored beige or brown instead of being blonde on the glass window/station of awakening, like they have multiple chances KH1.5 (in-game)and KH2.5 (BBS intro), yet they have to fix Aqua's chin in 0.2 and Ventus-Vanitas having his helmet bottom thing still intact and his eyes not being yellow, man Square Enix priorities XD
When I went to the late night release of kingdom hearts, I kid you not the guy behind me wanted to start playing simple and clean to see how many people would start singing along (mind you most of the people there were older fans so it was funny)
can't wait for the secret endings ranking

I love the kh2 intro so fucking much dude, I watch it every now and then and it’s always a good watch.
Pat, when are you going to rank every Keyblade in each game? You promised in your Best Rooms video you’d rank your favorite pixel in each Keyblade, but first you need to rank the Keyblades as a whole!
Ooh boy that’s one where KH1 will be king and BBS will be bottom tier 😓
Commence the great comment war….
DDD is my absolute favourite by far. I love the other top 5 as well but this is the one that I show to people to get them to understand how crazy and emotional the Kingdom Hearts series is
I'm gonna make a prediction: this comment section will be more of a war zone than any other Kingdom Hearts comment section in history.
Comments are a war zone. My heart's a battleground
Hey screw you pal fight me
I love this so much.
16:02
Not only it shows the sora getting cloned to roxas, but you can also see a third mickey in the middle,a detail that was kept in the re-release,they could remove it but they didn't,i'ts Xion, briefly showing up,being "born" at the same time Sora splits up and forms Roxas
If Simple and Clean: Aqua Edition isnt #1, we will riot
Wrong
That’s the worst one lmfaooo
It is pretty good
Unpopular opinion, but I hate the Aqua version
@@settingittowumbo1953 I really just don’t like the song, the animation is fine tho
I've never even thought of what my favorite KH intro would be honestly, but now I need to rewatch all of them
I freaking love all of these videos so much, no matter what you put out, it always is so full of great content, and it makes me so happy! Keep up the great work man!! My Kingdom Hearts experience wouldn't be the same without ya!
Sanctuary is so beautiful. You're right, KH2 deserves that spot.
This was phenomenal to watch! Thank you so much
Dude I still get choked up every time sanctuary comes on, and I’ve heard it a billion times.
I listen to Sanctuary every day. It is AMAZING
What made DDD's intro even more special was how it used both of the screens on the 3DS, with Mickey doing the hand wavy stuff at the bottom and the video proper happening above. Pretty neat.
Edit: oof, and you decide to talk about that just after I finish and posted the comment.
My favorite is DDD just for the music alone. Simple and clean orchestrated version is like my favorite peace of music ever
I feel less crazy about thinking that the end of the DDD intro "could've been Simba". Thanks Pat.
Well theoretically, since Simba is a link in KH3, you can body the old Nort with him, just that you can't deal the finishing blow
Why again did I start crying seeing only the footage of these openings?
> places the intro to 3d high on the list
> says kh3 lived up to the wait
i see you’re a man of culture 💖🥰
ANOTHER PAT VIDEO MY FANART IS IN, CAN I KEEP THE TRAIN RUNNIN
Seriously tho, thanks again for the wonderful video! Really reminded me how high production the KH intros are and I _still_ got emotional at the KH2 opening. Thanks for putting all of it into words! I'm gonna to rewatch all of em now
I like how you used each Org member for each number that matched it.
Love these videos keep em coming
Did anyone else make multiple saves anytime they started KH2 as a kid? It just never felt the same if I didn’t hear Sanctuary before playing the game.
13:08 Drowning a Goldfish is truly monstrous! I guess Terra COULD drown it in Darkness, but not water haha!
"Happening on a giant chessboard makes things cooler"
Y'all ever read Homestuck
Keep posting this vids bro they’re always very entertaining and you actually have a good opinions so that makes it even better!
I remember KH2 op was put in bewtween commercial on the Animax channel. The stairs drawing transition to 3D was what hook me up with KH forever.
Also I remember being really happy with 3D intro, the story was finally moving forward...! just not by much, oh well.
can you send a link to the ad?
I really want to see it
@@ComputerTechnic217 In between ads. Like a music video the proper full intro wqs played around 2006.
@@Soynereh wow. if you can find a recording of this happening it would be awesome to see
@@ComputerTechnic217 Not an ad, it's the same vid just with the Animax channel logo on the corner. The full intro was played in between commercials.
I remember feeling so clever when first seeing Sora and Riku fall back to Destiny Islands at the end of KH2 and thinking "wow, so thats why sora was falling in the KH1 intro??maybe?" Still, what a way to work that into the plot somehow.
18:19 Is that...is that not what happened KH3? That's what happened in MY KH3
7:08 I think this too, and I can't tell if they're using Ansem's model for it or if it's just like a basically bald Xemnas with an expression we don't normally see or what
@Regular Pat
12:51
i interpret it as
(Terra)
“the pureness(white) of terra getting taken over by darkness”
(Ventus)
“memories fading (white) while ventus tries his best to keep remembering them, or him being scared of the future” also foreshadowing union X
By the way, have you listened to Simple and Clean and Sanctuary backwards?
The names Riku and Ansem show up in those songs respectively.
"Yeah see where Riku walks, moving"
and
"He was Ansem"
So yeah I guess the songs don't really have anything to do with KH but that's neat at least.
Honestly all the openings put me in my feels :3 I can’t even decide what to rank them
Theres a weird thing with the kh1 and 2 themes where like. I got into this series in 2018 with the ps4 collection so I don't really have nostalgia for the series but something about them makes me nostalgic for that time period. Also I listened to the 0.2 theme like 10 tens before actually starting the game when I first got to it so I'm glad to see it here.
Great video, my guy.
I missed the premiere. I was all set up for it and walked my dog at the wrong time! Great video as usual pat! Appreciate you my guy. Cheers ✊
When I went to the late night release of kingdom hearts, I kid you not the guy behind me wanted to start playing simple and clean to see how many people would start singing along (mind you most of the people there were older fans so it was funny)
14:28 that small bait and switch for those who know regular pat doesnt like kh2 as much as kh1
