Hey Pat! Will you ever do a Critical level 1 walkthrough of KH2 and 3 similar to the KH1 walkthrough? I loved that video and it really helped me through my level 1 run. I’ve just recently found you and your content is awesome!
Truthfully I’m not as well-versed in the KH2 or 3 level 1 runs so it would be disingenuous to do a walkthrough, unless I miraculously got good at it lol
@@RegularPat This is one detail somewhat hidden about the LeechGrave , in the boss fight proper if you see the Tentaclaw do the special animation which telegraphs the "it-will-sallow-you-whole move" , then you stop in place & block the attack , the Tentaclaw will become stunned and lay flat on the ground for , , , I want to say 6 or 7 seconds.
This was my first KH game. I had to learn about the universe at the same time as Roxas, through his eyes. I didn't even know who Sora was. That's an experience that words can't quite express right.
Wow, that's really cool. As someone who played the games in order as they came out, that's a strange thing to think about. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!

I had the same experience. I never owned a playstation so my experience with the series is the exact opposite as the Complete Saga pack - played the DS games, only saw cutscenes for the others
51:15 "Wake up, ponder non-existence, take a shit but don't have to wipe because you're a nobody" This is the kind of deep lore you're missing out on by not playing the side games.
One enormous problem with the world building is do nobodies have any bodily functions? Do they poop? If so, roxas was just born and had no memories at the start .. he couldn’t talk .. did the organization have to show him what a toilet is?
“I hear Naminé is missing.” “Don’t know what to tell you. There one moment, gone the next.” “Did you check every room?” “You’re kidding, right? That’s like counting specks of dust in a room full of sneezing people.” You highlighted so many good lines throughout the days, I might as well contribute my favorite Axel line. Just in general. Shame on the movie version for cutting it.
Day 356, Tears, and Believe legitimately ALWAYS give me chills and misty eyes. I remember Axel's "What's your problem?!" Catching me off guard with how much anguish it emits.
"Yeah, sure, I'll do a Days video." Makes the most elaborate and in-depth Days video anyone could possibly make. Like holy shit. This is amazing. It's a big 'ol story and character analysis as well as a soft boss and world ranking (with some enemy compendium energy thrown in there) all rolled into a package that... admittedly makes this difficult to ever consider rewatching, but MAN what a great ride. You have outdone yourself Regular Pegular.
When I was a kid, I'd plug in my headphones into my DSI just to listen to the opening theme over and over again. I even discovered that the music still played even when the DSI was closed, so I would carry it in my pocket like it was an mp3 player. Since there was a multiplayer option, my friend and I would play together, fangirl over our favorite Organization members, and laugh at the different Casual Gear weapons.
One (really) tragic detail: During the final battle with Xion, one of her battle quotes was "Stop holding back!". It wasn't a challenge; it was a request, a plea even. Xion was definitely going all out here because she WANTED Roxas to be on the brink of death, in order for him to give it his all. I always thought the day was called "Tears" because it showed Roxas' tears, I never thought it would mean MY tears too 😭
The way Roxas' last line to Xion apparently differs between translations is really interesting. In English when he says "Who else will I have ice cream with?" it effectively implies he has no one else, no other friends, or in other words he hasn't forgiven Axel. While he apparently references the three of them having ice cream together again in Japanese implying he just wants things to go back to how they were before, regardless of all the lying and betrayal, losing Xion like this has made him realise that as mad as he may have gotten at Axel he still cares and misses the times when they were able to just be happy together.
It's also possible that it's Roxas at least pretending to forgive Axel just so she'll be happy, as Xion herself says that she's glad that she's friends with both of them just before, an attempt to convince Xion to try and stay, however futile
@@ZenoDLC I feel Roxas had forgiven Axel at this point. Especially after Axel stepped in to stop him and Xion from fighting each other in an illusion. He repeats the line of "I want the three of us to be together again" to Riku. I think Roxas understood Axel was trying to protect him and Xion but he could no longer stay in the organization who wanted him dead, nor could he live like this without knowing who he really is.
I just watched the scene in Japanese and the line is また3人でアイスを食べよう, which means "let's (the three of us) eat ice cream again". The translation for the entire scene is hit or miss, but they really botched that line. ua-cam.com/video/cCnRiZpegHA/v-deo.htmlsi=4ZQarHzRCs0rG0RF&t=163
I like how in kh2 Xaldin makes this whole deal out of acquiring Beast's Heartless and Nobody, like it was some big mission he's been focusing on that the org is also a part of. Then you get to Days, no one cares at all about Beast and they're just like "Uhh... Yeah, Xaldin's got some screws loose, just let him do his thing"
"It reminds of the Hoodoo Sorcerers from Rayman 3 hopefully that hits with at least one person watching." Pat you have no idea. Their theme lives rent free in my head.
With regards to the Heartless names being different, I always assumed the KH1/2/3 names were what Jiminy called them and the Days names are what the Org calls them. But some of the Heartless names are said in dialog by other characters, like Shadows, and some of the names are consistent, so iunno.
Probably many of the Emblems and common Purebloods were dubbed by Ansem, or Xehanort, and thus have consistent names known by many Shadows and other lesser Purebloods also likely have names in the archives of the various Keyblade Masters
The “when you run adds” immediately cutting to an add was absolutely perfect. The synopsis of each day was much appreciated, and the “ice cream” related transitions were a fantastic touch that I’m sure took absolutely forever but was much appreciated.
1:39:16 I actually think he sort of DID recognize Roxas, at least to some extent. There was a scene where Phil had a moment walking away and hesitates before saying "Hey kid... don't be a stranger." I feel like he was reminded of Ventus, and misses him a little or something. Idk, I might be reaching a little
The whole of Olympus Colosseum feels like a sports movie where a coach is trying to train a kid and slowly realizing this kid’s house life is so shit that the poor kid doesn’t even understand the concept of a nonshit houselife. I get I’m being melodramatic about it, but like… Phil is usually an ass to people coming in out of nowhere, and yet, even after it seemed Roxas was effectively running with a Stolen Identity… Phil still treated him with absolute respect. Like, I don’t think he treats any other character with the same level of respect he treats Roxas.
@@spindash64 If you go back to Olympus with Terra after finishing the world, Phil treats him with a lot of respect - but he only knows Terra from having won his Games, saved a guy's life from Hades, and maybe Herc mentioning that he watched him kill a bunch of monsters attacking the City Near Thebes too.
That Olive Branch quote at the end actually made me tear up a little bit cuz it made me think about how hard I've been fighting for my existence and how hard I've been working to overcome stuff beyond My control. That quote was actually quite marvelous. How dare you make me cry Pat.
As someone who's first game was 358/2 days, this video makes me very happy. It shows how worthwhile it is to play this game, and experience it's story. As others have pointed out, experiencing this game first before anything else and learning about the world building and the conflicts through Roxas' eyes at the same time as him was a very amazing experience that I don't think many people get to experience.
I've always thought it was interesting that Roxas's reaction to everything was to try and rock back up to the castle to basically kill everyone. I think it shows a lot about his character and maybe the effect Xion has on him (and the loosening of that effect as her memory slips away from him). It might be the closest Roxas ever gets to his emotionless evil nobody side, but it ironically comes when he's feeling the MOST emotion he ever has. Also, wouldn't it have been in Riku and Diz's interest to let Roxas run wild on the Organization? Like when Roxas dies then Sora will be reconstituted anyway so just let Roxas take some members of the Organization with him. He probably won't make it to Xemnas since Riku-Ansem bodied him, but it still helps if Roxas manages to get all the way to Xaldin or Xigbar before he goes out.
The fact that one's heartless and nobody dying causes them to reform into a human wasn't established until DDD, so as far as Riku and DiZ knew, if Roxas died fighting the organization sora might be lost forever. Alternatively, Roxas could have been captured and memory wiped or worse and then they'd be back at square one
Maybe, except Roxas is a special nobody. Remember: Sora was restored from his Heartless form, and Roxas didn’t have to perish in order for him to be “whole” again. He just basically returned to Sora.
I like how _every single transition line_ is about Ice Cream Also, I love how Days shows that Roxas is every bit as much of a loveable dumbass as Sora, if not even MORE of a loveable dumbass. To the point that even PHIL basically adopts the poor kid 1:09:00 The World of Phil idea has me utterly weak with laughter 1:27:45 I believe you mean, “slaycation” 2:20:00 the Manga for days is incredibly good all around, but I especially love how they handle that end of the scene: instead of already being unconscious, Axel retains consciousness just long enough to see Xion being dragged away, and react in an exhausted horror upon realizing what he just did, and what’s going to happen to her 2:23:50 again in the Manga, they go full in on the idea that Xion was directly goading Roxas to kill her before she could end up killing him The whole day 358 sequence is honestly even more heartbreaking when you realize that you’re watching Roxas quite literally lose his mind: Xion is LITERALLY more than 50% of his positive experiences with reality, and he is simultaneously being wracked with the grief of killing her while also having that half of his life stripped away. If he had somehow managed to get past Riku… he would have become the very same empty shell Marluxia was hoping to turn Sora into. There was no scenario where he can come back from this alive, because Roxas _doesn’t even want that_ anymore. The absolute best, pie in the sky possibility would be for him to commit a genocide against Nobodies, kill Xemnas, and then die, having released Master Xehanort back into the world, with the only silver lining being the Schadenfreude of Luxu having to deal with the course of history having been derailed by a single boy with a whole lot of hurt
@@isenokami7810 …I’m starting to wonder if Roxas by himself could have somehow inadvertently forged the X-Blade, by technically being attuned to light as his element, yet being so filled with rage and despite that he taps into darkness. I doubt it, but it sounds really cool to me, which is what’s important
@@spindash64 Even if he did, I have my doubts about its power. Especially given Xehanort’s comments in DDD, I doubt the Vanitas X-blade, or any X-blade Roxas could’ve theoretically made, was a match for the real deal. Powerful to be sure, but still just a replica.
1:45 showing Day 73 - The Promise while talking about how this video was something you promised? Very nice bit of subtle editing, you're getting really good at this!
For anyone who wants to hear more about Days, the channel Five by Five Takes recently released a very good video on why it’s their favorite game in the franchise.
It's a little embarrassing how often i come back to this video just to listen - honestly some of the best script writing, and it's a weird but kind of fun way to experience a game I was never able to play myself. Thanks so much for doing this project - i know i'll be watching it again
I always thought the "358" days referred to the time Roxas spent in the OG13 and the "2" was day 359 where Roxas got caught and The First Day which leads right into KH2.
Fun fact: There's an unused but fully playable "destroy shadow globs"-type mission that takes place in Beast's Castle (can be played if you unpack the rom, file-swap the mission for another and repack)
Man I gotta say I really appreciate your content. It’s given me this newfound appreciation for a franchise I’ve adored ever since I was practically an infant and making me think about it in new and interesting ways, appreciating things that I took for granted before. Especially with this video on what is in my opinion one of the most underrated games in the series. Super fun to listen to, great stuff. Always a pleasure when you upload 👍
1:17:29 on a repeat play of kh2 sdg doesn’t park in the parlor. They park outside, walk through the front doors, then walk into the parlor when they see the rose
I am not a huge Days guy, but you put so much work and care into this project. I never thought someone could care about the Kingdom Hearts franchise as much as me, but you make me feel validated in my nerdy interests. May you and Regular GF do well in life and blessings to you and yours. If you don't feel appreciated, just know that you are. Thanks man, and may your heart be your guiding key.
My theory as to why Roxas possesses both Oathkeeper and Oblivion is symbolize his friendship with Xion and Axel much like Sora uses them to symbolize his ties to Kairi and Riku. As to why those specific keyblades instead of unique ones for Roxas is probably because of Sora's memories tying those keyblades to his most important connections which can make sense with Oathkeeper with Xion since she looks like KH1 Kairi and she makes Roxas promise he would set the hearts free within Kingdom Hearts, but it is a bit tricky with Oblivion and Axel since the only real connection to Oblivion is the idea of friends being "lost" with Sora losing Riku to Ansem and vowing to get him back while Roxas and Axel's friendship becomes strained after Roxas attempts to destroy Kingdom Hearts despite Axel attempting to persuade him to stop and essentially "losing" his friend/s. I also believe that is why Riku uses Oblvion as well since he fears "losing" Sora if he can not get his memories back from Roxas. This is all just my interpretation on the situation though,
I looked up the japanese name for crimson performer to see if it made more sense and apparently it was "bleeding performer." Its not red and it doesn't bleed, so neither of those names really relate to anything about it, it seems. There's an itching in the back of my head that there's some intended relation between the concept of them being "bleeding" and sharing health, but I can't make the connection.
I'm not sure how it translates to Japanese, but it could be tied into the saying of someone being a "bleeding heart", which has multiple definitions but can essentially be boiled down to being overly sympathetic to the point where it negatively impacts them or the world around them. It would at least explain them reviving each other.
new intro hyyyyyyyype! thanks for this video pat, it really shows the hard work we know you did. and also, might i add, thank you so much for the captions, even on long videos like this! that effort is appreciated as well 🥰 i have a feeling this will quickly become one of my new fave pat videos.
i recently started rereading the 358/2 days manga and this video, and what's really funny about 2:07:20 of saix not knowing the word motivation is because this is a fan-translated screenshot-the translator's note under his panel says, "'motivation' is actually written in katakana here, meaning it's treated like a foreign word, which is why saix seems kind of buh", the more you know LMAO
I can’t decide if I’m more impressed with you making this, or me watching all of it. Good stuff. I think your humor is what genuinely separates you from other KH channels. Keep it up.
For all that the franchise lacks great writing and is prone to having one-dimension side characters, it's always had great moments. Even if the story content between the huge scenes isn't always all there, the emotional climaxes are usually done really well, and Days has some of the best ones in the series. The end of Day 358 has always struck a chord with me in particular, there's something really poignant about it being recontextualized as a boy trying to avenge a dead friend whose memories have been stripped away from him. It's probably the best use of the "hearts and memory" theme in the franchise, as well.
One time, I did a business management class assignment where I sectioned Organization XIII’s members into a management hierarchy, with explanations. So, hearing you call Saïx a middle manager, my main example for that section, was a special kind of pleasing for me.
Ah, yes. The true purpose of Project Wayfinder: scouring the scripts of every existing piece of Kingdom Hearts media for mentions of feces and ice cream. Awesome video, Pat. Thanks as always for going above and beyond at thoughtful and analytical Kingdom Hearts content. I haven't played the actual game since around when it released, so it was fun to look back on the game itself and not just the movie version from the HD rereleases.
Dark Follower does have some significant changes - some of its moves have added effects to make them more likely to hit you, and some of them can inflict statuses like Blind. I believe it's also slightly harder to hit while doing some of its attacks? It's a Darkside at base, but it does add to that base. Infernal Engine actually has more to it than you mentioned. You're meant to block the cannon shots, which will reflect them and kill the bowman Heartless on top of it. Actually, it seems you didn't block nearly enough, because several bosses including every single Zip Slasher variant have weaknesses exposed by blocking. Not Ruler of the Sky though, who has basically no blockable attacks, and not Leechgrave who will poison your ass if you even consider it.
Yeah, the Zip Slasher example is especially fitting. I ALWAYS take that thing out the first time, since it’s super predictable and blocking at the right times makes it more a slog than an actual danger.
Days was my introduction to the series, and it really had so much character to go around. The conceit of these individuals all saying "we don't have hearts" while so very clearly having defined personalities and goals and relationships was so compelling, and the betrayal of the people you'd come to rely on, the revelations that you've been walking towards an inevitable end, it was so very unfair in a way that captured so much more of the tragedy than the intro to KH2 could have managed (though it certainly tried to!) It's a very different way to approach the series than most people have, and I remember being an edgy teenager angry and frustrated with Sora and Riku, because why did /their/ lives matter more? Roxas was the one up and living, he had no choice in anything that happened to him. And when you're coming at it from the perspective of knowing him first, it was just comically infuriating to hear other characters boil him down to not being real, because you played him, and you know how real he was. I remember reading somewhere that the Org were some of Nomura's favorites too, and it really feels that way in this game. They're all very funny, I love the feral coworker vibe more as an adult than I did as a child.
1:55:25 got a good chuckle out of me, had to comment Thanks for the video, Days was my first KH game and it was great to hear someone talk about it for so long in a fair, often funny, and analytical way
Man, I fucking love your content! I'm not even that big on Kingdom Hearts, only completed the main three games after finding your channel (Final Fantasy fan) but I honestly tell folk about your channel all the time. Keep doing you :)
The fact that you call us legends for finishing the video is crazy man You are a legend for doing all of this I LOVE KH 358/2 days with my life and still this would've been such a struggle ugh You are amazing and thank you for making this!!!
I always loved this game to bits and it’s so good to have a huge video that, while critiquing it, absolutely holds up the best moments on the pedestal they deserve. In regards to Roxas’ last words to Xion, I find it weird that I never minded it? I always understood what they were going for even if the line just sounds hokey. I think being aware that there’s alot of weird dialogue in the franchise as a whole and that the voice direction (not the quality of the acting mind) was a work in progress always just made me accept it. Of course the Axel/Xion scene is one of the best acted scenes in the entire franchise so what do I know.
Can you pick the time in which ads play on a video as a creator? Because at 1:58:38 an ad played right after he says “how can you criticize capitalism and still have ads on your videos”
This came up in my auto play and it's absolutely wild. Thanks for being absolutely insane. I'm going to enjoy watching it. You deserve the fondest of headpats
I swear I'm not just saying this because of the video length and me being a h.a.n.d. apologist: this is your finest work. So many moments in this had me laughing my ass off on a level I can't describe, and when your commentary isn't trying to be funny it's still immensely insightful. I can't praise this video enough.
2:15:15 Yeah I will ALWAYS remember that cutscene. I remember searching that area DESPERATELY for clue and more content cause that cutscene put my KH hype into OVERDRIVE.
I still don't see what a colorful five-layer cake stacked precariously atop a baby blue plate has to do with your brand but hey, happy to help with the intro👉🏻👉🏻
I watched all the way to the end. Thanks for all your hard work. I’m glad you had fun making the video! I think it is time I tackled this game. I will take your words about playing in chunks and changing out builds to heart.
1:54:27, I think they accidentally got cannon right here; in 358 Herc was the “winner” of the Herc cup because the memory of Sora has been erased; in 2 the banners say that Sora won it.
Great video, and i share the hatred of the leechgrave, younger me struggles with the panal system, and that boss was the one reason i did not finish this game when i was younger
Xigbar and Demyx aren't that bad it's Xaldin who's just spouting random nonsense to Roxas when they go out on missions Luxord is cool too adding bits of wisdom in the form of riddles
Kind of a fun fact about the Dark Follower boss fight: When it uses that one attack that spawns in Shadows, you're able to see special purple Shadow variants. They're basically just palette swaps but it's still really cool.
Phenomenal video. It’s hard to recall exactly, but 2009 was when I started playing the series. As you mentioned, the barrier to entry was much easier since I had DS and otherwise had to borrow my roommates PS2. I think I played this concurrently with KH1 even though nearly all context was lost on me. Could be part nostalgia, could be part the internal pushback against criticism this game often receives, but this is always going to be one of my top 3 games in the series I think. I’d pay good money for a full playable remake, even though I know it’ll never happen.
Just finished watching this, and man, i gotta tell ya, you really outdid yourself on this one Loved it all the way from start to end, one of your best works so far, Pat
I distantly remember the last hour of the game leaving me a Wreck. Even with it's flaws, it's honestly my favorite in the series, so seeing all of this is such a treat.
1:54:24 i might be insane for noticing but this is a really fun detail if you consider that sora has literally been wiped from everyone's mind. the hercules cup has to be beaten to seal the keyhole in kh1, and since the world literally hasn't fallen to darkness, it's obviously been sealed, so sora's name should be on that list, right? except since sora functionally does not exist during days, it makes sense that since there was no sora to best hercules, then hercules must've won. again, i might be insane! but it's a fun detail nonetheless.
18:21 I, in fact, went into this game blind and was very surprised by Xion, especially as a child who had just beat KH2 not that long before starting Days. I also beat Days before actually beating CoM, which made killing off the Org members in CoM actually pretty emotional since I had played as these characters before facing them as bosses.
IMO the best way to experience the story is through the 5-volume manga. It covers everything nicely and does a great job depicting the gameplay elements and exploring the worlds, and nails the characterisations even more than the game does. Also balances the light-hearted and fun moments perfectly with the serious and tear-jerking ones.
Days got 5? I heard 2 got restricted to 4 like 1 and CoM, which is WILD when you realize that the halfway point of that run only gets through the first visit to Hollow Bastion. They must’ve had to cut Disney out of the story entirely to fit basically the entirety of the real meat of the game into those later two issues.
Something that makes me like the Leechgrave is its mysterious nature. What's mainly interesting about it is the coffin that's chained up. Why is it chained up, what felt the need to chain it up, what inside it. It's just interesting.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was meant to be an Oogie Heartless, given where you fight it and the white thing inside that attacks you if you approach when it’s not stunned.
This being my first KH game, as well as my gateway drug into the franchise, there are so many things I see now that I never noticed playing through and why seeing Sora for the first time, when I ended up looking up gameplay, felt so familiar to me
1:25:47 Between "Xaldin being interested in the Beast," "Xaldin planting seeds," "Member on member violence," and the bit on unintentional humor in the mission, I refuse to believe that any of that was unintentional. After watching this video multiple times and coming to the same conclusion each time, I've simply accepted that you are a true master of understated comedy.
If you want to see a playthrough that combines the gameplaying of original 358 and the cutscenes of the ReMIX, I recommend Playframe. Dan was playing through all the kingdom hearts games, including actually playing Re:CoM instead of breaking and watching the cutscenes, and as time drew near to playing vs watching Days, the discussion was so split that he did an excellent compromise.
There's also Everglow's KH Complete Timeline. He actually brought together a lot of modders to make KH2 recreations of a lot of important Days missions, going way over the top with some of them. It's just insanely cool.
@@saxor96I’ve heard there’s a straight up Days KH2 mod in the works now. “In the works” being the key phrase, though, I doubt we’ll see a playable build for a while. Creator’s estimate was years.
You're either passionate or insane for making this undertaking. Only you could think or hear this idea, and proceed with it, and all us viewers are better off for it.
Imma be the contrarian about leechgrave. The boss is one of the few instances in this game that really encourages you to experiment with panel setups. You can go a full magic build to defeat the tentaclaws easily, you can go with an air combo setup for the boss, or go with (the objective best setup in the game) crit to have a 30% chance to just oneshot everything. Most of the game can be beaten with just the keyblade and a few spells, but this mission actually wants you to experiment. You can also block the tentaclaws to stun them, which triples the damage they take, and makes them easier to hit.
Hmm, I’ve never actually tried a crit build, I’ll have to look into that next time I hit Day 256. Back when this was relatively new, I tended to prefer the air combo gears, and I still have that playstyle in my back pocket (also makes the Carrier Ghost funny, since you can follow it into the sky and spend the rest of the mission mashing A while looking at nothing but the sky). As of more recent runs, though, I’ve taken to the magic boosting gears, since I’ve learned how powerful it is (though I’m still not too keen on just how limited it is). And by magic I mean Fire: really like how each level handles differently instead of being straight upgrades (shoutouts to Phantasy Star Online for doing the same thing), but Fire just outclasses everything.
@@isenokami7810 The thing that makes crit so good is that crit gears have an ability that allows them tocrit from any hit, not just finishers. The damage increase on crits is also huge for some characters, as an example full crit lexaus can do three whole health bars off dustflier... at level one. 300 damage in one hit at level one. I must also defend thundaga as the best spell. Fire has higher damage in one hit, and certain enemies take ridiculous burn damage, such as pink concertos and living pods. However; thundaga is targeted, has two hits, and very high jolt chance. Meaning the second hit will often have tripled damage. This is more relevant on level one because you need to minmax your damage as much as possible. Oh thundaga also has aoe, the one thing fire lacks. In fact, every spell above tier one has aoe, something you may not even notice for fira unless you're doing pathetic damage

You highlighted so many good lines throughout the days, I might as well contribute my favorite Axel line. Just in general. Shame on the movie version for cutting it.
I love these overly-specific lists. I genuinely like that this channel manages to be niche and wildly creative and enjoyable at the same time.
Day 356, Tears, and Believe legitimately ALWAYS give me chills and misty eyes. I remember Axel's "What's your problem?!" Catching me off guard with how much anguish it emits.
"Yeah, sure, I'll do a Days video."
Makes the most elaborate and in-depth Days video anyone could possibly make.
Saix's Casual Gear banana is one of the best ones.

I like how in kh2 Xaldin makes this whole deal out of acquiring Beast's Heartless and Nobody, like it was some big mission he's been focusing on that the org is also a part of. Then you get to Days, no one cares at all about Beast and they're just like "Uhh... Yeah, Xaldin's got some screws loose, just let him do his thing"
every day with luxord is a W because hes always so respectful to roxas and treats him as an equal. proper geezer right there
He still talks smack to Roxas tho... and deservedly so:
because he kept on getting outwitted
by the Cheshire cat.
*Lol*
"It reminds of the Hoodoo Sorcerers from Rayman 3 hopefully that hits with at least one person watching."
Pat you have no idea. Their theme lives rent free in my head.
There are dozens of us!
Very tempted to make a recut of this video in chronological order.
Do it
I'm down.
Do it
R u doin it
@@Naminegir Yeah, I think I will. Just need to find the right amount of time to do video editing.
With regards to the Heartless names being different, I always assumed the KH1/2/3 names were what Jiminy called them and the Days names are what the Org calls them. But some of the Heartless names are said in dialog by other characters, like Shadows, and some of the names are consistent, so iunno.
Probably many of the Emblems and common Purebloods were dubbed by Ansem, or Xehanort, and thus have consistent names known by many
Shadows and other lesser Purebloods also likely have names in the archives of the various Keyblade Masters
This is also what I figured! Different groups of people with their own names for the same creatures
The “when you run adds” immediately cutting to an add was absolutely perfect. The synopsis of each day was much appreciated, and the “ice cream” related transitions were a fantastic touch that I’m sure took absolutely forever but was much appreciated.
Bruh it made laugh out loud with the placement and I’m happy someone said it too
1:39:16 I actually think he sort of DID recognize Roxas, at least to some extent.
Stay strong
Been a while since I've played Days so I may be wrong, but I always assumed Roxas dying would cause Sora to never wake up and essentially die too.
@@CampyClaptrap plus it has to be done by a keyblade, right? That's why the burying heartless comes back after Axel kills it fairly early on
@@darkimpulse2829 But if that was the case, wouldn't Vexen and the like have been boned since their nobodies were killed through non-keyblade means?
I like how _every single transition line_ is about Ice Cream
Also, I love how Days shows that Roxas is every bit as much of a loveable dumbass as Sora, if not even MORE of a loveable dumbass. To the point that even PHIL basically adopts the poor kid
1:09:00 The World of Phil idea has me utterly weak with laughter
1:27:45 I believe you mean, “slaycation”
2:20:00 the Manga for days is incredibly good all around, but I especially love how they handle that end of the scene: instead of already being unconscious, Axel retains consciousness just long enough to see Xion being dragged away, and react in an exhausted horror upon realizing what he just did, and what’s going to happen to her
2:23:50 again in the Manga, they go full in on the idea that Xion was directly goading Roxas to kill her before she could end up killing him
The whole day 358 sequence is honestly even more heartbreaking when you realize that you’re watching Roxas quite literally lose his mind: Xion is LITERALLY more than 50% of his positive experiences with reality, and he is simultaneously being wracked with the grief of killing her while also having that half of his life stripped away.
On that last paragraph, definitely makes me glad things went down as they did…but man does that potential egg on Luxu’s face look mighty tasty.
@@isenokami7810
…I’m starting to wonder if Roxas by himself could have somehow inadvertently forged the X-Blade, by technically being attuned to light as his element, yet being so filled with rage and despite that he taps into darkness.
@@isenokami7810 But Like... Infinite Rage Roxas Wielding the X Blade is already Scary enough.
The recap in DDD confirms Xion was trying to get Roxas to kill her
1:45 showing Day 73 - The Promise while talking about how this video was something you promised? Very nice bit of subtle editing, you're getting really good at this!
15:56 And now I’m imagining that there are “No Complaining” signs all over the Organization’s Castle.
1:58:33 This is one of the funniest ad placements I’ve seen on this site. You are such a good writer.
"Frankly, I'm not an authority on anything. I just have a microphone."
UA-cam audiences would do well to realize this about more content creators.
Your 'Working Together' joke almost killed me
For anyone who wants to hear more about Days, the channel Five by Five Takes recently released a very good video on why it’s their favorite game in the franchise.
ah thanks man
It's a little embarrassing how often i come back to this video just to listen - honestly some of the best script writing, and it's a weird but kind of fun way to experience a game I was never able to play myself. Thanks so much for doing this project - i know i'll be watching it again
I don’t even have a clever quip for this one I’m just gonna sit down be respectful of this literal movie you made
Pat you are seriously next-level. Great analysis, killer humor, clear passion for the series…glad I found your channel! Thanks for the vid!
I always thought the "358" days referred to the time Roxas spent in the OG13 and the "2" was day 359 where Roxas got caught and The First Day which leads right into KH2.
this is one of my comfort video essays
here for the 20th time to say that this remains a favorite
Fun fact: There's an unused but fully playable "destroy shadow globs"-type mission that takes place in Beast's Castle (can be played if you unpack the rom, file-swap the mission for another and repack)
love the new intro! got into this series in 2022 and these videos are great! it was a vibe playing this game during the summer lol
the saix impressions were absolutely killing me
I love the bill wurtz reference during your explanation of day 354. It's so perfect and I love it.
Even as a kid I questioned why we were killing nobodys as an assessment of our abilities
Let's go man, I've been down all day and this finally happened! Thank you for making my next 2 and a half hours!
🗝 hands down the best KH Days videos I've seen - period.
Maybe the performer is a vampire?
Pat’s comedy throughout this video was on another level, way too many one liners to count
I can’t decide if I’m more impressed with you making this, or me watching all of it. Good stuff. I think your humor is what genuinely separates you from other KH channels. Keep it up.
1:31:09 didn't know xion liked mega man battle network, hope she's exited for the legacy collection
1:03:13 Oh damn, PMD Explorers reference! This game and that game comprised my childhood on the DS.
2:29:33 Pyrrhic victory lap is such a cool concept, which day 358 100% is.
Banging new lil intro
1:54:20 Well, Luxu /definitely/ built up some interesting memories associated with it in Dark Road
Interesting tidbit that always fascinated me about days: this is Chronologically the latest point in the timeline we see Wonderland and Neverland
Listen, you cannot say this without showing any potentially made documents. I need to see this.
At least the hierarchy.
2h30 of clever game commentary, puns, recurring gags and referential humor with a deadpan delivery is all I ever wanted.
The conceit of these individuals all saying "we don't have hearts" while so very clearly having defined personalities and goals and relationships was so compelling, and the betrayal of the people you'd come to rely on, the revelations that you've been walking towards an inevitable end, it was so very unfair in a way that captured so much more of the tragedy than the intro to KH2 could have managed (though it certainly tried to!)
It's a very different way to approach the series than most people have, and I remember being an edgy teenager angry and frustrated with Sora and Riku, because why did /their/ lives matter more? Roxas was the one up and living, he had no choice in anything that happened to him. And when you're coming at it from the perspective of knowing him first, it was just comically infuriating to hear other characters boil him down to not being real, because you played him, and you know how real he was.
I remember reading somewhere that the Org were some of Nomura's favorites too, and it really feels that way in this game. They're all very funny, I love the feral coworker vibe more as an adult than I did as a child.
1:55:25 got a good chuckle out of me, had to comment
Thanks for the video, Days was my first KH game and it was great to hear someone talk about it for so long in a fair, often funny, and analytical way
I love the inconsistency of Pat calling Xigbar, Luxu. It's like Pat's very own Xion's hood moment.
Man, I fucking love your content! I'm not even that big on Kingdom Hearts, only completed the main three games after finding your channel (Final Fantasy fan) but I honestly tell folk about your channel all the time. Keep doing you :)
The fact that you call us legends for finishing the video is crazy man
You are a legend for doing all of this
I LOVE KH 358/2 days with my life and still this would've been such a struggle ugh
You are amazing and thank you for making this!!!
Good to hear you finally understood the value, and at the same time boss-sized devalue, of one of the gems of the series.
This came up in my auto play and it's absolutely wild. Thanks for being absolutely insane. I'm going to enjoy watching it. You deserve the fondest of headpats
This was great. Definitely worth the wait. Keep them coming.
I don't think I've ever been more glued to a screen. Thanks for all the time and effort that went into this, Pat!
Pat's impressions of the Organization members gives me life especially his Siax impression 😂😂😂
I was sold on this video by the title, but I subbed for the Stephen Fishbach quote.
This is peak UA-cam content, I love seeing 358/2. More people should try the actual game
Kind of a fun fact about the Dark Follower boss fight:
When it uses that one attack that spawns in Shadows, you're able to see special purple Shadow variants.
I love all the workplace humor and terminology throughout the video. It's a great theme and framing device
Damn Pat you did it! Another stellar entry. Kind of makes me want to replay this, but then I remember Leechgrave and say no thanks 😅
Just finished watching this, and man, i gotta tell ya, you really outdid yourself on this one
Loved it all the way from start to end, one of your best works so far, Pat
As I’ve only watched the days cutscene movie, (and Xion, Roxas, and Axel are my favourite KH characters), I have only this to say. You dropped this: 👑.
Loving the ice cream transitions, each time there is a transition it makes me smile
I'd love to see a ranking of Organization members, mostly just because I want to hear you talk about them all at length
Glorious new intro hat
Something that makes me like the Leechgrave is its mysterious nature. What's mainly interesting about it is the coffin that's chained up. Why is it chained up, what felt the need to chain it up, what inside it. It's just interesting.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was meant to be an Oogie Heartless, given where you fight it and the white thing inside that attacks you if you approach when it’s not stunned.
my first kingdom hearts
crazy beginning entry for me
but it definitely sparked my love for the series and jrpgs in general
This being my first KH game, as well as my gateway drug into the franchise, there are so many things I see now that I never noticed playing through and why seeing Sora for the first time, when I ended up looking up gameplay, felt so familiar to me
1:25:47
Between "Xaldin being interested in the Beast," "Xaldin planting seeds," "Member on member violence," and the bit on unintentional humor in the mission, I refuse to believe that any of that was unintentional.
After watching this video multiple times and coming to the same conclusion each time, I've simply accepted that you are a true master of understated comedy.
thanks, someone on reddit said i'm not funny so i'm gonna send this comment to them
If you want to see a playthrough that combines the gameplaying of original 358 and the cutscenes of the ReMIX, I recommend Playframe.
@@isenokami7810 So I've heard. By the day it finishes I'll have forgotten about most of it to excuse a playtrough.
