      @@MelissasArtSame exact feeling here! I loved Mario until after the GC. I think the last great mario game was Sunshine, but it went down hill after that and they have made their games too kiddy. But Mario Maker 1&2 have both been great since you can essentially play the old SMW style.

      @jpphilosopher I was such a Nintendo fan girl back in the 90s and early 2000s. I loved Sunshine and even Mario Galaxy. But ever since the Wii day, my interest in Nintendo has waned. I know most love Breath of the Wild, but for me, it isn't Zelda. I'm now a PC gamer. Finally got around to enjoying the Elden Ring DLC. So much fun! And challenging too, I love a challenge. 🙂

    Showing the different possible ways to get to these exits is a really good touch. My favorite secret exit is the one you have as #7; just such elegant level design to have that so easy to reach but not what most would choose to do intuitively. Nice memories of "simpler times" come up with #3, particularly.

    Really happy to see this list at last! I very much enjoyed how detailed you were with it as always, but also going as far as to show the many different ways one could access these secret exits is such a nice touch. It highlights just how much thought and care the developers put into making all of these levels. I sincerely appreciate the kind of attention to detail and sheer effort that you always put into your videos too. I also think your choices for the list are all spot on. It was so much fun to watch. Forest of Illusion 3's Secret Exit was like a huge "A Ha!" moment for me and my. brother. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to break out of the loop. Then, my brother and I found out the trick on the map that yellow dot levels have 1 exit, and red dot levels have 2+ exits. So, seeing that FOI 3 was a red dot level, we knew there had to be a secret exit somewhere in the level. So, we scoured every pipe, and that second to last one? Roy's Castle, here we come!

    Another piece of advice, this one for valley ghost house. You can actually start the coins moving, then hit the p-switch and ride the blocks. The allows you to steer the blocks while being able to see where they're going. I'd recommend being small so you dont have to run and crouch-slide. Takes some practice to get used to, but might be a little easier than trying to guess where the coins are going off screen

I remember as a kid in the 90s and eating Super Mario world how annoying it was to see Torpedo Ted show up on the enemy cast, but it was oh so satisfying when I did find that secret at Cheese Bridge Area to get to Soda Lake and even more satisfying that after beating Soda Lake to find that Star Road that's on that tiny isle in the middle you can actually access from the world map and not just have it just be some dead zone

    Top Secret Area. This game and DKC 1 were the first two games I ever played. It is worth noting that, once I found that level, I went there everytime before I played a new stage (and when I had to repeat castles). Having access to this level made the game a lot more manageable for a 7-8 y/o like myself and really made me apprecite in-game secrets. This is often overlooked, but it really helps child newcomers to be able to pass the game and aleviates a lot of the difficulty of the game, without being intrusive to more experience users. Even without having played this game for over 2 decades (I really should replay it), I still remembered exactly the power ups in the stage and in which block each one was. That is how much I did that action, haha.

    • @jarrod752
      @jarrod752 Місяць тому +1

      Fun fact! In 2 player mode, Top Secret Area won't take away your turn (switch players) like other levels do. It's also good in 2p mode because if you run low on lives, you can grab a yoshi, revisit 3 or 4 times (yoshi becomes lives if you enter with yoshi), and get back into the action. Super useful when there's a big skill gap between 2 players.
      You can also start+L+R out of the level, and it WILL switch players if you exit it that way, good if 1 player is out of the room for a minute.

    Definitely spending most of tomorrow playing this one again, but will hook up the old SNES instead of the classic mini to see if I ever found the Top Secret stage; quite sure I never even did though it doesn't sound that unfamiliar. Still kinda proud that I definitely found all the other secret stages myself (including Soda Lake!), yet still only for knowing from a magazine that the red levels contain a secret exit. My favourite secret exit was the Vanilla Dome level going to the Starworld as it was the first secret I ever found and had me looking out for more. @@DoomedDragonz in hindsight, I wish I gave it an honorable mention for its unique time & coin mechanic with the pipe. For me it wasn’t a favorite design bc I like when they’re hidden within the level, and it’s a bit too cryptic to be super fun, I remember waiting around at a pipe just to get a different screen bc I’d always run fast.. kinda makes me wish there was a more obvious indicator, but it IS interesting and unique!

    8:35 yes every time I do this secret exit I always do it before actually getting all the switches and just fly up there. From what I recall there should actually be a blue Cooper nearby that allows you to fly up there because I've ever eaten one with the yellow Yoshi that you could have to level or maybe I just played it again with the masked couples already since red turns blue and green turns yellow at least for the ones on the ground

    One important additional piece of info about secret area is that if you enter with a yoshi, you get a one up from the centre block instead. You can then exit and re-enter, getting as many lives as you need. Helps when trying to complete certain other difficult secrets (cheese bridge flying)

    11:06 I didn't even realize there were so many ways to get to that. I mean I've played this game since I was a kid in the 90s and I know where all the secret exits are and even know some other secrets that people never point out such as just flying through tubular with cape and blue Yoshi by eating the flying paratroopers and just having wings. It seems everybody call that tubular level way too difficult because of having to use the balloon, but yeah you can totally cheese it with a cape and blue Yoshi

    #1 for sure. I thought I had 100% my copy from childhood. On my first computer, I downloaded the world map as my background and saw the vine hanging off the bridge and thought it was fake. For #2 you can do it in a way where you first step on the P-switch, start the coin/block chain,m jump on it and build the stairs while you are on there, as once you are there, you only really need to press up and right, which you can do while climbing the stairs. It's way easier to line up the top, but you have less time, as the clock is ticking already.

    For #2, you can fly into the gap using spin jump flying then hitting down when you get to the gap & crouch jumping forwarding into the space. Spin jump flying can also get you into a small edge of the gap for an additional jump so you can duck on the 2nd jump & then repeatedly crouch jump forward into the space.
