This game is definitely one of if not the best videos game ever made in my opinion. So much thought went into it. the fact that people are finding new way to beat this game in our day of age goes to show you how great this games was and is.
The first time my brother and I found star road blew our minds because it cut sooooo much off of the game. When you're born in 1986 and have no money, just having the game was a dream. Then beating it in 30 minutes or less was something we twins bragged about to our friends FOUURRRR EVVVV ERRRRR. Haha. One of the best games ever made. At least in comparison to the year it was made. ❤
The execution! When Mario is in a hurry, it takes less than 10 minutes. It seemed like Peach was ACTUALLY in danger and Mario did everything in his power to find her ASAP. My Mario took 10 years.
Man, I remember rushing through the levels like that as a kid back in 1991 (especially those Star World tricks), but the concept of world record speedrunning never occurred to me. Nor did I know about about the cloud glitch, which is a relatively recent discovery. It's amazing how people are still finding new things in such an old game.
Sergio M. Urbizu I’ll try to explain: In the first level after he mounts Yoshi he eats a red koopa shell, then fires the three fireballs from the shell. Notice when he does this that shortly after one of the fireballs hits a green koopa shell turning it into a coin. He uses the Yoshi tongue to eat the coin, but as he does this he simultaneously dismounts Yoshi and Mario picks up the coin before Yoshi can eat it. This confuses the game since it thinks Yoshi should be eating an item, but there’s nothing there. The game tries to compensate for this by putting the next enemy into Yoshi’s mouth. However, the next enemy is a Clap-Chuck that’s just off screen to the right. Once again this confuses the game since Yoshi isn’t supposed to be able to consume Clap-Chucks and it tricks the game into putting the cloud into your item box at the top middle of the screen (covered by the tide pod in this video). That’s the basic jist, hope it made sense!
Always Be Together It’s used in the Bowser fight, along with specific use of the Mecha-Koopas that Bowser throws, to speed through all 3 phases of the final boss fight.
And now you know the quickest intended route through the game. Personally I never mastered the "Y to grab the shell in YI2" which is the skill you need for the Bowser fight. :(
I had seriously no idea about the boss fight with boo in donut land, this game is so full of extras and secrets and rewards you for exploring. One of my favourite games ever!
Super Mario world is the reason I faked being sick in elementary school so I could go to my grandmas house to play this. Never could beat it tho but it was worth repeating 2nd grade
Guarantee there was so many modest, shy players who've done this just after release but never publicly, just home super obsessed with this same thing. It's a Super Famicom (Japanese Super Nintendo) with Super Mario World (Japanese cartridge), I wonder why people always use Japanese retro consoles and games instead of the national ones.

This doesn't make the run more legit, just a different way of playing through it.

It's a great accomplishment, but I'd just like to say, me and my 2 best friends in the world - revisited this game with my original SNES in our mid twenties. We played every week for a few months - Eating pizza, having a beer, having a smoke. On completion, We. Went. Insane. Best days of my life. Most fond memories ever. I'd take friends any day over a world record.

Its funny when people don't understand categories. Different categories have different times with different tricks. Its not too difficult to understand that.
Not everybody watches, or cares for that matter, about speedruns. Hell, if I didn't use AGDQ as background noise I wouldn't know a damn thing about them.
It's actually very simple. This is the 11 Exit category, it's basically the least amount of exits (besides just warping to the credits glitch on level 1, also a separate category mind you) to go to bowser and beat the game. There are others who like to collect every item in a game (not this one of course) for a "100% Category" instead of just rushing to end. It's different races. For this game there is also an All Castles category, see who can beat all castles before getting to the end. Hope this helps.
These were the best days of gaming... this and Zelda, Banjo Kazooey, Goldeneye, so many amazing games. I even loved Vikings, and Spider-Man when they dropped. I know this is on the Super Nintendo, but this console and the N64 had my favorite collection of games.
If you still want to know, if you're hit when you're flying, you don't lose powerup state, you just lose flight. To make the cloud show up, around 0:46 he grabs a shell, turns it into a coin, and tries to eat the coin with Yoshi. But he moves to collect the coin before Yoshi can eat it, and in that moment moves up far enough to spawn in the Chargin' Chuck. The Chuck replaces the coin on Yoshi's tongue and is read by the game to stick a cloud into the reserve box. There's a bit more to it, vut that's the general gist.
