I really appreciate your detailed reviews. You are answering a lot of the questions I've had that no other reviews have touched on. Thanks a bunch.
Glad it was helpful!
I've had two Blades in the past (a 15" and a Studio) and the issues were nonstop - both hardware and software. Rocking a Legion Slim with a 3060 and have had literally zero issues in the past year. I miss my Razer's but you can't beat the knowledge that you can start up your computer and knowing it's always going to work.
Too few reasons to get a Razer and too many to not.
I currently have a blade 15 that replaced a blade 17. It's not as seamlessly reliable as the many Macs I have owned over the years but IMHO and in my experience, none of the issues were dealbreakers.
I just think Lenovo is sh*t for not proving memory options... I need more than 16gb and it's rarely an option.
I have Legion Slim 7 with 6800s. The battery life, how cool and quit it is are just amazing. I did not go with most powerful CPU option since it is barely a few % in power at the cost of dozens degrees and poor battery life
@@Cccoaststep up your game, learn to upgrade... It's effin easy
I feel like gaming laptops are always making baby steps but there isn't a solid option to rely on. Even if you are willing to pay + $4000 you'll hace to deal with some issues. Amazing review btw
At 4k you shouldn't have to deal with issues or shitty components like keyboard, speaker etc, that most come with .
It's not just build. It should be support. A lot of brands seem to think good support is optional for $4000 laptops. Razer buyers often resort to relying on Best Buy not only for support but for warranty.
Imo u should check out the scar 16?
@@mono4968 the scar 16 is alright, just wish the quality was anything near a MacBook or Razer blade
@@mono4968rubbish, I had it returned it
Thank you for your informative reviews. I use them to choose my laptops. While the computers I have bought have always been satisfactory in all performance aspects, I would love to have more information about the low skill repairability of the laptop. I'm fine fixing my own computer's simple problems as long as I don't have to do any soldering or removing the heat sink. I often can't tell whether I can fix the things that most often go wrong before buying.
Since you open up the laptops in your videos, but don't do a full tear down, I think it would be nice if you included whether the external ports are directly soldered of the motherboard or not, especially the power connector. I've seen laptops with the ports connected to daughterboards, which is a major selling point for me, but I can never find any information on. I seem to have a tendency to be a bit hard on my ports, and it can't always easily be seen whether they are connected or not in your videos.
If you like this idea but are feeling a bit more ambitious, you could also comment on the ease of replacing the keyboard, as that is the part of my computer that usually breaks first in my experience. I would love to know how deep I would need to go to replace the keyboard (for example, no interaction with the motherboard, removing the motherboard, removing the heatsink, dealing with rivets, etc.). Of course, I'm not suggesting a step-by-step teardown, but a hint as to how difficult it appears would be nice.
In this kind of scenario usually undervolt will be extremely good idea, sadly undervolt is silicon lottery, and fair review can't be based on silicon lottery.
@@NoBody-mr9ck each cpu chip is different in this regard and some can be undervolted more and remain stable while others can barely sustain small undervolt and have crushes sometimes, that's why it's a lottery
@@NoBody-mr9ck no, it dosent hurt anything. It’s just that the variance from cpus, even if the same model. Can cause some to not really be able to undervolt at all, while others can easily do it.
@@daponagegoogenburg807 it’s worth noting that over time undervolts can go bad (my i7-7700HQ used to do -120mV all day every day, now -105mV is what I need for stability). There’s a real art form to dialing it in correctly
@@NoBody-mr9ck That's not undervolt, that's power limiting, they are not the same.
@@NoBody-mr9ck Basically, undervolting sends less electricity to your components, so it's not as simple as just dropping clocks, although that does in itself lower power draw. The point is to send just enough juice to your CPU that it can operate without using as much power.
I have seen so much video covering even finest details about gaming laptops so thumbs up to that 👏 ,could you cover testing different thermal pastes on laptops, some may ask why not just use the highly rated PC thermal pastes like krynaut grizzly or mx4 but trust me PC and laptops are not the same when it comes to cooling and applying even best thermal pastes used in pc on laptops can give disastrous results due it suffering from silicone bleed and pumb out resulted from laptops low pressured heatsinks, would be great if you cover all that, thank you so much 😍
I see in your video, the body temperature a little warm in stress test but my blade 16 so hot when play games, so do you enabled or disabled hdr when testing?
I really wish we could get a number pad on these laptops, I use it a lot when I'm not gaming so it's a deal breaker for me, which sucks because I think these are so cool.
I had a similar screen retention problem with two Legion 7 QHD laptops. Although, no one offered a fix there, I just have to live with it.
But knowing Razer's quality and software support this here is quite concerning, especially if paying a premium price.
Hopefully the issue won't come back after the fix...
Thanks for the explaination! Really helped me out!
Hi, thank you for this amazing showcase of this laptop! I was looking forward to buying the Razer Blade 14, but I noticed, they have just upgraded the old 15 and 17 inches, so now, they are all 16:10. Any ideas when the 14 inch version is getting an update?
Hello Jarrod. Thank you so much for the review. Please I will appreciate if you can compare the M16 (2023) with the Blade16. I am torn between these devices because they are the thinnest right now that packs a punch.
Hello, Jarrod. Been watching your videos as they are very good however been struggling with deciding a laptop for architecture purposes in the lines of gaming laptops. Would it be possible to recommend 2 or 3 in the mid-range gap that you'd deem as fitting for the role?
Thank you in advance and keep the great videos.
It's difficult for me to do that as it's not an area I personally have any experience in. I suppose ultimately the same things that apply to gaming might apply there, in terms of models with more CPU+GPU performance. Also hard to suggest anything from 2023 yet when we've only been able to test about 4 models so far
In terms of battery life time which one between the razer blade 18 and 16 should last longer for example if it is hardly used for gaming if not most of the time plugged to the power to work on web development with docker, vscode, android studio, etc?
@Jarrod This problem with Synapse software is related to latest Windows update. There's an instruction on Razer site how to fix it - worked fine for me, got no problems anymore. Something related to Windows settings with hybernation.
Do you have the link? I can't seem to find it
I'm glad you were able to find a fix. It's unfortunate that Razer make these things so difficult to find.
Would be great if there were also gaming benchmarks in 4K to see how the mobile 4090 performs and to see how it compliments the 4K mini-LED screen.
4k will be added to comparisons in future reviews. They will include the Blade 16 results too, I only decided to add them after making the video.
If it helps, I get 55 FPS in cyberpunk 2077: 4k, custom profile max GPU and CPU, every setting to high, rt overdrive and frame generation on, DLSS set to auto
I saw the chart the scar 18 has 20k cinebench on battery. Is it the same with the scar 16? Want about the legion 7i pro x16 and yogai 9i pro with 1390th and 4070. Did you test the laptops also on 100 or 140w pd charging whichever allows whichs as max? Lenovo laptops as i know both the yoga 9i pro and the legion 7i has 40w pd charging. Do they perform much better on 140w USBC than the other gaming laptops? That's what it depends whether I choosing which 2 of these 4 or 5 maybe including the M16 too. Thanks in advance.
Is there any safe SKU of these 2023 Blades? I don't care how much I spend, but I just want one without problems. I returned my 1st one. The screen kept turning off and taking me to the lock screen while typing. It also was stuttering and freezing during UA-cam videos. Also had screen flicker and I know there's a hotfix but that means you can only run in discrete GPU mode no option for Advanced Optimus. However I really would like a Blade!
Thank you for mentioning. I had the same problem too with synapse app and I had to remove it completely. I use 2019 15 inch base model.
Hellllo how much hetter is the battery life when using the display in fhd vs 4k ? is there a big differnece ?? ❤
Thanks for the review! Very interesting results. I have got a Blade 16 RTX 4080 variant I’ll be testing, so it’ll be interesting to compare results against these benchmarks in the 4090. Certainly, these results are a bit lower than expected. Was it tested with max fan and highest performance settings for the games and timespy? Results seemed low. I also was getting 31.5k in Cinebench R23 on my Blade 18 after full undervolting with Intel XTU, which is a lot more than what you’re getting without a more optimized undervolt.
Yes, boost + high performance mode with max fan for all tests unless specified otherwise (eg temp tests at all levels). The 4090 could dip down to 130W, and yeah the 4080 in the Blade 18 could beat it in some cases. As for Cinebench, I didn't spend any time at all tuning it and literally picked -0.05v at random. Not sure if you just do one Cinebench run or not, as that would score better than our 3x 10 minute averages.
@@JarrodsTechi guess you should think to the fact that its screen is amasing(4k)and its storage is 6 terabytes

Hi there, great video! I had a question re perhaps this laptop but really all gaming laptops. I'm a music producer and my trusty Mac Pro is at the end of it's life. I've only ever used macs because of my work, but I love to game, specifically Apex legends (so quick refresh rate is important). Instead of just giving apple more of my hard earned pennies again and again... is there a gaming laptop that would be suitable for / excel at production (I'm guess 32gb ram would be ideal), I'd love a powerhouse that performs as good as a high end MacBook) but can also allow me to shoot people in the head when I'm not making music? I travel a lot for work and on the road / hotel gaming would be amazing! I saw the section in this video that talks about audio latency, it that in relationship just to the speakers or in all audio processing? THANKS! :D
I'm planning to buy asus rog strix g15 i7 16gbram my usage for gaming + programming + editing
... can u please tell me about it or do u have any suggestions I'm really confused.
Hello 🙂! I truly appreciate your content and find your videos to be fantastic. It's quite engaging 😉! Overall, your work is excellent, and I encourage you to keep it up.
I have a suggestion for a future video topic: a comparison between the ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023) and the Razer Blade 16 (2023 - 4080 GPU model). I would be very interested in hearing your verdict on these devices, particularly regarding whether the Razer Blade is worth the significant price difference. A comparison video would be truly valuable. Thank you✌
I was able to score a "used" (honestly more like brand new open box) Blade 18 with the 4090 from B&H for a whopping $800 off retail. Loving it so far for 3D rendering. It's faster than my desktop 3080Ti and uses at least half the power consumption. I can also throw the 3080Ti into an eGPU Razer box and almost double my render speeds 🏎
I am having some issues with the trackpad though. Has anyone experienced slow-ish movement and the left click just not registering occasionally? I turned sensitivity down to Low in the Synapse settings to protect against palm touches. Even when it was set to High before, I was still having issues with left click.
I highly recommend you to do a latencymon test
You have to do a firmware update for the razer blade in order to fix those issues. Found only on razer's website not the app
Is there much of a performance difference between your 3080ti and the 4090.
@@keskinkesir4468 could you provide more details on what that entails?
@@sggsquadpresents I think the laptop did a recent firmware update on its own. But I'll look into that, thanks.

I saw you mention on twitter the 14” and 15” will get a refresh. Anything you’ve heard about the 14” having a 16:10 display?
Jarrod hows palm area while gaming? Is it hot to touch?
Does anyone know when the Asus Tuf gaming F15 2023 release date? and what do you think the best gaming laptop is to the 2000$ budget?
Does anyone know if the blade 16 will allow you to change from multi zone backlight to single zone mode like the ROG mini led laptops ?

Can you review the Lenovo Thinkbook 16p G3, cant find many reviews about it, think it would be very interesting of the gaming capabilities on a device not necessarily targeted at gaming, but may definitely have the potential... cheers
As someone who has tried both platforms, any comments on the 16 vs 18? Struggling with this one as portability isn’t a major concern but more of a nice to have.
18 better but also too big for me.

Btw, razer just released blade 18 with13980hx version, looking forward to the review 🥺
Hey Jarrod,
Any idea what's wrong with rtx 20 series GPU? My acer predator triton 300 with RTX 2070 max q started giving error code 43 as I updated the driver from geforce experience. Some suggested it is due to the defected micron from the factory that goes bad overtime.
There was some recent Nvidia driver update that was meant to improve stability for Pascal, not sure about Turing. I suppose if it's a software issue you could try DDU and a clean driver install, failing that reinstall Windows fresh.
Is there an app that enables full brightness like there is one for miniled macs?

Can you review a gigabyte A1 K1? PLEASE IS IT WORTH IT FOR MID-end laptop?
For me, the added thickness/weight, and no OLED option make this quite a step back compared to previous models. With how premium-ly these are priced I expect the best of all worlds!

I totally agree with you Jarrod. The dual screen will be more worth it when you will not need to reboot.
do we still have battery bloat ?
I remember when I got my Razer 15 Advanced laptop in 2019 that I had enough problems with Synapse that I just disabled it completely. You can tell that Jarrod wanted to be WAY ruder about it but decided it just wasn't worth the fallout...
Heey Jarrod, what do you think about *ASUS ROG FLOW Z13* ? Will there be a review of it?
i thought its just me with the razer synapse issue lol. anyone know a fix for them? i rely on them so much lol aint no way i got to not be able to switch my profile lol
Just a heads up, Ugreen is a shady company when it comes to following the specs of technology standards i.e. USB-C PD etc.
will you be getting the g16 soon?
Will you review the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra? Looking forward to see it, as I am a bit worried about its performance and battery, even with all of its big advantages like its weight.
Hi Jarrod awesome Video as always, I wanted to ask you if the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (RTX 3070 Ryzen 5800h 16gb ram) is better than a 3060ti ryzen 5600x 32gb ram desktop, in the field of performance?
I would say no because desktop components are better than mobile. Can always use a comparison site for sure.
Splotchy screen issue doesnt appear fixed despite the screen firmware update saying the update is already applied :(. Will have to exchange tomorrow for one of the QHD ones instead :/.
In speak of "dock" (USB hub, dock, port repeater, whatever the name): Can you make a guide video (what to look out etc.) and with some recommendations? Most product pages I see for these just show amount of ports, but not their bandwidth, so you never know if you are getting HDMI 1.4 that won't even work together with random USB ports at the same time.
That usually does not matter and what he said was just a sponser ad and it does not really say much about the quality. But for fast docks i would use thunderbolt ones. Anker, Lenovo and microsoft make really good docks. Or if you plan to be stationary with the dock you can use the razer X gpu enclosure but instead of a gpu insert a thunderbolt usb-c card
@@sggsquadpresents I know it's just "sponsor" segment (or rather an advertisement), but it makes sense for laptop reviewer to actually also do content about related accessories. I am interested in Zephyrus G14 2022, but since it has low amount of ports and lacks network one - I'd need to buy some kind of accessory to extend that.
If I were to get this with 4070 would I still be able to play a lot of games?
Can you please test the scar 16?

Hey jarrod, Really Waiting for Strix SCAR 16 Review.
My work computer is an Apple Silicon MacBook pro 16 but my personal computer is a Razer blade 15 with the RTX 3080ti. The blade is thinner than the Mac but the I/O means that it can legitimately serve as a desktop when needed because you don't need adaptors to connect your peripherals to it. This is despite the blade being thinner than the Mac. The version I have also demolishes the Mac in terms of raw performance without thermal throttling. It gets hot but it never has to reduce the performance because of the heat.
@Tom Pike *"The version I have also demolishes the Mac in terms of raw performance without thermal throttling."*
Yeah sure. Unplug that Razor Blade and see if it beats your Mac on battery. It won't. Apple runs full performance on battery and still kicks every laptop's rear in raw performance while maintaining 3x the battery. No fan noise and low heat. And just how have you tested your Razer to prove that raw performance is better than your Apple Silicon MacBook Pro 16? Did you use Adobe software? LOL. Did you do the exact same tests on software that is optimized for both Windows and MacOS? There's no way in raw performance using the same non-Adobe software that your Razer would beat the 16" MBP. Every reviewer has not found a laptop on the market that beats the MBP16 M1 in the same class. Even the graphics on the M1 16" MBP rival the RTX 3080. You're not being honest.
Thank you Jarrod. When AMD CPU zen 4 + Nvidia will available?

Have blade stealth. Other than it's amazing build quality, everything else sucks. The hardware has had fan failures, battery bloats and parts of screen just dying. On the other hand , my MSI ge62vr 6rf that I got a year before that is still perfect. It had a fan failure once but that's about it.
Blade seems to be the company that cares more about it's outward looks and optics than actually delivering a long lasting good product. Buy it for vanity I suppose. Over inflated prices too.

I will compare the 4060 and 4070 in the same laptop chassis in a few weeks, but for now it's hard for me to accurately say. You could roughly compare the results in my 4060 vs 3060 and 3070 Ti vs 4070 videos to get an idea though.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks, I am upgrading from a 2070 Super and a ryzen 7 3800x. Want to make the right choice despite both being an upgrade
Watching this review after the 2024 model came out. I just bought this version with the 4070 GPU and the mini LED on razors website for $2599 plus 20% cash back through a portal. I've never seen 20% back so I would say that's an amazing deal for a laptop of this power.
I just bought my razer blade 16 with 4090 last week, and I felt something weird with the screen. It is like blinking! Also, when I scroll down, I feel the screen is getting darker so sometime I cant read, I increase the brightness, but feel something is getting black while im browsing using chroom. Glad that you mentioned the issue in the video.
BTW, your video is perfect, and I haven't seen a review like this before about razer blade 16 2023. It is complete review. You deserve more than like and sub.
Great review! Will you review any Alienware laptop?
Maybe. I haven't had much luck with getting Alienware in a timely manner in the past though.
I didn't believe the rumor that both Razer Synapse and Central are the worst software possible on planet Earth. Now that I've got the Razer 18 2023 myself, it aint no more a rumor but a fact. I don't really think I'm getting another Razer
Need that asus m16 review plzz
And how would a 125watt 4070 work
As always, good accurate review. I picked up a 2023 Razer 15 with 4060 and it’s had the same synapse issues. Fix for me, was repairing all visual c++ in control panel as event viewer was showing some .NET errors with software. No problems since. Do have a question though. When running stress or even benchmarks, are noticing with Intel CPUs that temps will hit 100c before throttling? @Jarrodstech
Hmm interesting! I don't really monitor the temps enough to see, like when I do the thermal testing I start the stress test and walk away for half an hour at a time and save the average results (well, 10 mins to let it settle in, then I click the hwinfo timer to start it for the next 20). 100c sounds pretty normal for bursty workloads though, with HX high TDP is possible right at the start, so high temps for short terms sounds expected.
Hi can you tell me which laptop is best for fhd video editing
FHD isn't that demanding really, any modern Intel 12th/13th gen i5 or i7 with mid-range GPU like RTX 3060 or 4050 should do well, just look for a color accurate screen.
Cant wait for this man to compare new 13th gen processors with themselves and also with 12th gen , a video like 4 way comparison between i7 12th g , i7 13th gen, i9 12th gen,i9 13th gen
i had the same synapse issue with the 2019 17 inch model
I was wondering if anyone noticed the screen fix only works temporarily? For me at least. Updating it the first time helped the screen 'waves' but now it's appearing again. Anyone else? Any fixes?
Didn't notice it come back, but also didn't get a chance to use it for too much longer afterwards.
Jarrod we see that AMD Dragon Range is coming in with some major games.
The 7945HX is the same performance as a 7950X running in the 105W eco-mode and proving even stronger than i9-13980HX which 'averages' 157W , often exceed 170W.
But AMD's crux is the idle power draw due to chiplet architecture and IO die sucking power. How do you think Dragon Range battery life will turn out to be??
This 16-inch Blade is £1200 more than the Lenovo Legion 7i Pro in the UK for the same 4080 GPU and 240 Hz QHD screen. The Lenovo has built-in Ethernet and a better keyboard, too, so why would one choose this over the Legion?
