- 1998 Street Fighter Alpha 3 tournament in USA. This is the first encounter between Daigo Umehara and Alex Valle, and it's also The Beast's first overseas tournament.
Daigo Umehara (Go) vs Alex Valle (Ry).
Man, international tournaments back then looked so different....almost like a Friday night arcade meetup lol
yeah wnf now is bigger than Evo back then probably ahha
You missed the days when tournaments would literally be held out of some guys' basement.
Early beginning
When it was an underground hobby.
Thats because it literally was
I remember i went from Mexico to the States to watch this match live. I didn't speak a bit of English at the time. I never thought Daigo and Valle were going to still be mention nowadays.
Jorge Andrade como te enteraste de la pelea?
Mario García eran differentes tiempos maje
Duuude. I'm from Colorado. I loved the Mexico scene!! Although it seemed that people liked KOF alot better. I remember the multicart cabs at every arcade!!!
嘘をつくのはやめないさい
Lmao daigo said "well I don't think there's any possibility of me losing so..."
unique link その涼しいので
Well he was watching Valle play so he had the proverbial drop on him.
Really? Lmao
Is Daigo just being too honest? 😂
"Hope to see you in the next Street Fighter." -Alex Valle
Daigo is vampire confirmed.
Japanese age slow like black people.
@@sadetwizelve 😂
The. 90s gangster meets a nerdy japanese lol
Gangster ahahahah sure !!!! Alex valle is far from brother guy is chill as fuk
lolz at gangster
Valle is awesome. That persona is exactly why I've always seen him as one of the coolest greats. You could see why people call him an OG!
took me a while to realize Daigo was Akuma... and not Ryu... LOL
Watching this 3yrs after your comment, and I got so confused until the very end when I realized Daigo was Akuma
same
Valle's Ryu inspired Daigo to use Ryu.
Seymour Asis Daigo himself said it. Valle's Ryu motivated him to use Ryu.
Seymour Asis I mean he uses Ryu as main but yeah Ryu is basic character and everyone uses him.
I was 24 when this happened, and can't believe how fast 20 years have flown by. Damn
I was 0 lol
I was 14 when this happened. and can't believe how fast 20 years have flown by. Damn.
What are you up to now a days John?
I was 3 lmao
I was 12 when this happened. and can't believe how fast 20 years have flown by. Damn.
Alex Valle is, without a doubt, one of the most important dudes in FGC history. While he might not be the player that Daigo is, he is every bit as important to the culture and scene, if not MORE SO. Long live both Valle and Daigo: 2 of the absolute best!
USA-Alex Valle, Japan-Diago, UK-Ryan Hart. France- probably Bruno, HK- Terrence. Those were 90s well known guys. There were obviously lots of other top players back then but those were the well known names back then. KOF 98>>Sfa 3 😜
important for talking trash and getting smashed. all talk alex valle.
@@kiljaedyn? He literally created the west coast scene for the FGC
rare footage of daigo looking mildly emotional
Goat comment
Guys if 20+ years went by this quick, the rest of our years will go by even quicker. Make each day count dude.
After 21 years, they are still playing against each other in evo 2019
and 21 years in a row, Daigo beats all the loudmouth, all talk no walk, beta cali players.
Will never forget that day. I was there. :D
and u did get a picture :O
Where was this tournament held?
15 years flew so fast...

2021 would like a word
This is really a piece of fighting games history.
15 years later and they're still going at it
Legit LORE battle, in game and real life...dope!!!
Haha damn. I was 11 when this went down. I was crazy into SF games and around 98 is when I got into the online stuff soon. I was just a tad too young to be up in this kind of scene though. But it is 100% familiar nonetheless. I miss arcades and gatherings like that.
jumpsteady1999 the good ol days
yea me too I was 11 going on 12 when this happened
and im obsessed in fighting games. And im kinda like your guys ages in 98. WOW
20 years ago and Daigo didn't seems to aged a tiny bit. Is he a vampire? lol
Asians have more collagen
Damn Valle looks like those stereotypical americans you see in animes lol wearing this t-shirt and with the coat hanging on his shoulders.
ClamperBR in the manga he smokes, and says random cliché phrases when he wins
Diago and Alex are like 67 years old now.
嘘つくなボケ
1:54 this handshake from Valle was so 80's e...and they were already in late 90's!
that was alex valle!?!? O_o lmao
RIGHT?! Dude looked so different
He aged really nicely. He looks kinda bad here tbh lol
Lmao Alex Valle skinny as fuck that time
Daigo looked at Alex who used X-Rolento in the final of the meeting in the United States behind.
So Daigo said that there was not the element which lost.
However, terribly strong V-Ryu came out in the public performance.
Daigo praises Alex after the game.
When even if Alex comes to Japan by the strength that is equal to oneself, Alex can become the top immediately.
Daigo uses V-Ryu in the wake of this match, and Alex uses V-Akuma.
I thought that this rival relations were very interesting.
Great comment thank you
For all you 90s babies this missed the arcade fgc in it's prime...You really missed out!
Yes but 00s were good
BRO I WAS THERE. THE TAIL END. I REMEMBER THE HYPE
Yeh they did in a way, but they have online now…
I would have given anything to be able to play people overseas from the comfort of my own home…
Actually scratch that- the best part was the crowd watching you play and the banter that goes with winning/losing.
My one regret in life. I only really caught on to the FGC when SF4 was out.
I love this 90s vibe
Alex looked salty as fuck at the end lol
Vato Valle
This is literally the most 90s thing ever and I wasn't even born in the 90s
Alex Valle, orgullo de Perú 🇵🇪
A certified hood classic.
Gotta love VHS baby!!! lol!! This was a classic.
i love this match, look the skill of both players
its a fucking shame we dont get to see this proper. Would love to see these guys play this game again
Anyone remember those days of Golfland Arcade tournaments?
damn Daigo looks almost the same today, and Alex.................... looks way way way way way younger back then.
He looks better now
Damn this game looks mad fun!
best version ever. You can play it now on ps4 and xbox one
@@UnrealTournament420
or just download 20mb rom and play online on Fightcade
@@GORO911 either way is good.
Throwing some dollars at Capcom for official releases helps build fighting games.
I still remember the "dark ages" of fighting games between 3rd Strike and SFIV.
IIRC, the only "new" fighting game that came out during that time was Capcom Fighting Jam. 😅
@@YaowBucketHEAD
"The Dark ages of fighting games" is a strictly American thing.
The rest of the world didn't have such sentiments.
During those "dark ages" SNK and Namco were making excellent games, better than Capcom games imo.
Capcom is a giant in the US but outside it its just another fighting games company, but ofcourse we give Capcom the credit for establishing the genre with SF2. 🙂
ah, the good ol' times before those horrible jumping infinites were discovered... How would I like a version of this game with those fixed out.
alpha 2 has ifinitys ?
Yep, to much infinitys...and nicola.sorry but they know the infinites..they just ban the infinite combos...so they play with honor.
RECHOOSENONE This is A3. And yeah with crouch cancelling there are a lot of corner infinites after the Vism combos.
When Daigo started to lose he became unbreakable.
Baby Valle is my spirit animal.
Reliquia el video 😮
A trophy and a jacket its like golf and street fighter mixed and thats not bad cause the jacket is nice.
Just another day for Daigo.
I feel that someday, the Japanese guy will create the greatest number in FG history
They’re so young oml
No its a mechanic in alpha 3 there are 3 "isms" x, a, and v, they're using v here which gives characters properties similar to Enbu or that enbu is similar to considering this came first
Is this the time I heard Valle talk about, when he was so good that he was considering quitting because no one could defeat him?
The quality of this video has downgraded as UA-cam tecnicals improved - sort it out, Google!
Man even Alpha 3 looks way more dope than SFV
man, alex was one game away from taking it in the 2nd set
Ryu was a really robust characters on sfa3. Compared to Akuma the damage ratio per hit was much more higher....
And this kids is how EVO created.
RTSD: The Origin Story
Love this feud
im very sad that Alex wasn't forever referred to as "Wifebeater Valle" after this match
Save it for Infiltration
@@neurotelepath why?
@@breloom8448 source?
@@stephboyarthree4394 its not true. just a tasteless joke i dont remember making
daigo has advantage because he watched Valle playing.
Alex also has advantages; he is at home and has support of the crowd. Also he was already warmed up, Daigo didn’t have any practice matches.
So Alex was just 1 round away from sweeping daigo wow
Lord Daigo 👏👏
LEGENDARY
This guy would have been literally the most unstoppable player in the history of Street fighter if he had more self-confidence because he's winning tournaments but you can tell by his body language that he just doesn't feel comfortable on the big stage...
Oh another body language expert...
@@biohead66 you act like you don't use body language to evaluate your fellow man...
???
I wonder if James Chen or Ultra David were present.
lol, isn't that opening music the same thing that plays at the beginning of Naked Gun?
I was only five or four around that time, depending what month it was held in. Probably summer time, so four in half. I do remember enough of 98-99 though. Only if I was a couple years older, I feel like I should of play more games like this back then. The scene was really something, my fiancée did just go to EVO, but I didn't go, I know he wants to go to the one in Japan, and I really want to go to Japan, so I'm going to try to go with him.
November 7th and 8th in 1998
I want to know who was the person thT Valle beat in the finals.
This was obviously a million years ago but man, Valle was mad salty. He did not look happy or respectful.
because he was told first to 3 not best out of 3. you'd be salty to.
clash of two worlds
Good times....
Valle lookin like a rad cali bro lol
Alex looked like a baby! Haha
Whatever happened to that announcer now? Would cool to see her at EVO as a commentator or announcer or host since she been here since the beginning with Daigo and Alex Valle!
She becomes cat lady after fucking so many fuckboys.
Imagine traveling all the way from Japan for a first to 3 in streetfighter. Lol damn
Aw hell nah
Do you guys know who beat Daigo for the first time in a tournament?
Take a shot for everytime the narrator says, "Nippon Champion~! 🇯🇵"
alex looked so young xD
Man Alex Valle was so young then haha
Well of course he was young, this was recorded in freaking 1998.
Lol
firedemon at the time of that posting probably looks 5 years older now.
LOL
unbelievable that 20 years has passed, I was in high school just learning to do supers back then.
wow alex has put on a lot of weight since then
Haha, yeah. His vague emotion is our head exploding.
you really great daigo
Damn, gotta admit Valle looks MUCH better nowadays
Vim pelo Punho de Dragão
I believe it's called "cultivating mass".

Valle was cool as fuck at that time....
Aww, it wasn't the whole footage, oh well.
shendo714 it was... last fight was cut short due to them being shitty on time
Blood in,Blood out Valle
Alex Valle kinda reminds me of Daniel san from Karate Kid

that is a better way to put it.

I would pay for that trophy.
What happened to Alex Valle?? Jesus Christ 😐
DrInferno Jr 20 years, let's see how you look in that time jump. Act like he's some 500 pounds, I think he's doing well
lordkintendo Dude, I agree with you...I think I didnt make myself clear: HE DOES LOOK WWAAAAAAY MUCH BETTER NOW. He looked like your average cholo back then!!! Now he is Mr.Street Fighter!!!
He grew into his nose and mellowed out.
