@@nahdontevenstart Like every other person who's going throught a lot of difficult things in their life. Who are you to know what he was going through in that time period. Shush kid
@@nahdontevenstart i think it was just to alleviate some of the tension and pressure, but as i discover this now i must say his dexterity was on point. He's legendary

I've always thought that Justin and Daigo's match at EVO 09 was so poetic. EVO Moment 37 was what helped kick start the FGC renaissance during it's dark period and five years later they face off again, but this time with the FGC thriving. Full circle moment.
It is the greatest moment. It's #1 forever. Especially when you look at their careers after and today. Very special. Two absolute legends and champions right here.
@@pebriancharliady Exactly, it is the reason why fighting games in general became so popular under people who never touched those before. It was for me also this clip, which brought me into the FGC scene.
SF4 was so fun because everyone was so bad at the start. Watching all the players get better, develop a personality and playstyle, it was all so fun to follow. All we had was SRK and EventHubs, and I remembered coming home to check them every day after school, we didn't have Discord groups, and we didn't have good wikis until almost the end of USF4, so you would pick a player and try to do what they were doing. I know SF3S was where these two made their big EVO momment 37, but for me personally, I got to know these two through SF4, so this video was a great trip back in time to a simpler, more unoptomized time. I miss it a lot. Thank you for this video.
Sweet words dude... This is my history too... Just a few differences... I checked srk and eventhubs after university classes. And on the weekends when there were SF4 majors, I would go out early in the morning Or in the middle of the night on the streets to buy some fasfood To continue watching broadcasts without interruption (I live in Brazil). I spent sleepless nights hahaha good times.
SF4 was without a doubt the hardest to master out of all the Sf series. Nobody could even touch the top players without having at least years an years of fighting game history in the pocket. Plus mastering the game and its deep details as well. A newbie player could play for 6 months and get good enough to beat top players in the 5 and now 6 Era. In the 4 era the noob could practice every singel day for 2 years straight and he wouldnt even come close to beating any of them. The skill level was truly different in that game.
I have a very similar feeling, there was some lightning in a bottle with SF4. The fact that we still had SRK, that the game launched in arcades first, the hype building for console versions and the team of Ono and Seth Killian... The list could go on and on to do real justice to all the rivalries, UA-cam channels, etc.
The game was way more fun before everyone learned all the OS techs. We didn't have discords but because of the way the game worked, having the Internet sort of ruined the magic of the game. Everyone started playing a cookie cutter style and using OS
Daigo on his death bed: "Thank you for visiting me, dear friend. I still cherish the time when I parried you into a meme." Justin the octogenarian: "Where's the life support connected?"
Two legends of the game! Awesome seeing these two in the same video Time to bring on K-Brad v Wolfkrone or FChamp v KaneBlueRiver for some real thuggery haha
This is such a cool idea for a series! Love seeing pros review their match footage and talk about what they were thinking/feeling at the time as well as getting to ask their competitor questions they may have never gotten the chance to ask them.
I love thet both feel like they werent very good, yet had beaten everyone else to get there. I love that mindset. Stay humble and look at your own mistakes to improve.
Of course there always will be a crowd to watch Daigo vs Justin playing fighting games. This pair is like watching: Messi x Ronaldo playing football; Hikaru x Magnus playing chess; Nadal x Federer playing tennis. When you put two big "legends" at something, being sports, games, whatever, people will watch it no matter what.
Their SF3 match is the most brought up because of the parry comeback but their SF4 finals match I think was more epic on the whole and more important in terms of the growth of the scene. That game and that match helped towards garnering a larger interest in fighting games and towards paving the way for fighting game players to make a career out of playing them. And speaking for myself as a fan, without SF4 and the hype Justin vs Daigo in grand finals helped to feed, I wouldn't have become a regular consumer of FGC content such as classic shows like Excellent Adventures. That SF4 era ('09 to 2015) was really something special and I miss it, though thanks to UA-cam one can relive it through much of the old content that is still up. Thanks for the sit down and thanks for the memories, Justin and Daigo.

for some reason I just really like the way Justin Wong speaks. I loved listening to this guy. I'm sure if I could understand Japanese (I actually think it might be Korean, it doesn't sounds Japanese to me [EDIT: Sorry, it's obviously Japanese]) I'd appreciate how Daigo Umehara speaks ... but I can't. so Justin it is. very calm and confident. no real "jokes", just a talented person talking clearly and entertainingly. So glad to see this match featured! Obviously Evo Moment 37 is more legendary but if you really think about it that only at the semi-final, for me this set was much cooler considering it was grand finals, US vs Japan, went the distance etc.
omg all these references to pre-sf4 players that I actually know who the hell they are. I feel like for many years, even during late SF4 I had no idea who anybody was anymore.
They weren’t bad they were just first. That was the first year of sf4. No one knew what they were doing yet and fighting games hadn’t been played on that big a stage before. It’s like driving a model t in an f1 race on your first race. Anyways hindsight is always 20/20.
How old is Justin? I’m 38 now and back in the 2000s the arcade culture wasn’t really there. In the 90s I was pretty young still and remember arcades were huge. But I was still was really young. The only games I was winning against older guys was Mortal Kombat 1,2,3. It was funny kicking their asses and pulling the fatalities on them, and they’d look at me like what are you?! 😂
Oh I automatically presumed that this was going to be about their Chun-Li/Ken match which is cemented in video game history... That being said, SF4 is a great game and I'm always happy to watch content about it. I do want to hear Daigo talk us through his like 1 frame Evil Ryu everlasting combos though...
When you don't buy into the notion that picking a non projectile character against a Ken or Ryu would leave you at a disadvantage, that's when you know someone's good at this game.

Daigo on point with his corrections 🤣 Japanese humor is top tire, gets the intellectual schooling, like an actual Ryu 🤣
