This reminds me of how in lesson planning you start with the learning objective and then build the lectures and classroom activities around it. I love the idea of applying this to personal goals and incorporating emotions into it!

This is especially good for those of us who are not task oriented, but feeling oriented instead.

I think the whole world is feeling oriented, but some people are better at running over what they feel and need by brute force. And some others are aligned. Therefore there is no conflict between what they want and what they do.

Thanks you! This is the Ultimate Guide to autistic planning. Because shifting from doing to feeling helps to acknowledge, regulate and prioritize intoreception challenges, avoiding burnout, instead of navigating around it. Your 5 questions are so spot on! Since they relate to those stimuli we find energizing and those that drain our ability to focus and perform. Los this video so much!!!

I am so grateful for this video. The thought of working according to how you want to feel is soooo what I needed. I have always wanted to have a schedule depending on my feelings. But the rational voices of "productive" youtubers kept saying that I am just dependent on my emotions and not actually disciplined. What is the point of discipline if it doesn't just feel uncomfortable but painful. It's so refreshing watching someone actually use a feeling oriented schedule without it being 'emotionally swayed' and also calming and productive. At the end of the day I just want to feel like my day was calm and productive enough. Now I can delightedly plan my day. It's so good. Do the hard task in the calmer slow time and the easy task when time feels fleeting and locked. I just realised how easy all the tasks are even the daunting ones. I feel so stressed out even by the littilest things when the base of schedule is 'hyper productivity' and the focus is on getting as much as done so that I could feel accomplished. But do I really have to go through such pain? Do I really want to feel accomplishment at the end of the day? Or do I just want to feel calm that I have done as much as my brain power could take. To feel satisfied with the fact that it might not be the most productive day but I did enough that I don't have to keep berating myself over a half crossed to do list. Ahhhhh I wanna cry finally my neurodivergent brain is gonna feel at ease!!!

    • @heyspark

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! It's so true that there is no point in feeling "disciplined" if we ourselves are suffering at the end of the day. I also believe that we should have at least some say in the definitions of "disciplined" and "productive"--if not in our work or school, then at least in our personal lives. Sometimes I simply cannot check off the to-do boxes because life gets in the way, and it took me so long to realize that I NEED to learn to be okay with that because if I don't, at some point, I may not have a tomorrow to make my life better with.
Thank you again for sharing, and I wish you all the best ❤️

I totally understand you! I am so tired of following these productivity, hustle culture advice. “Consistency is Key to success.” That is totally not true for the neurodivergent brain (which I finally realized that I am ND). We are more emotionally driven, and our energy/mood is never consistent like neurotypical so “consistency” never works for us. So we have to work according to our natural energy levels and plan things based on our ever changing energy/mood.

I want to be more intentional with my free time instead of doom scrolling and mindlessly consuming YT content. I am glad to come across this video! I will be trying this strategy out!
As for doing tasks for our jobs/studying, when you are feeling resistance and paralysis a great strategy is to think about how you would feel after completing this task. “How good will I feel when this is done?”

This is great! It's something ive been doing a while now. I ask myself not only how I want to feel, but what energy do i need to embody today for what i'm doing? I then play a little dress up. Its subtle so other people wouldn't nessecary notice, but I try to dress like the person who would be expert at that thing, makeup even on some days 😊

You popped up in my feed and I just had a feeling this is what I needed and it completely was, thank you for your video! This mental switch into focussing on how I want to feel at the end of the week/day/hour is what I need to mentally focus and stay motivated. Combining this with the “1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and go” it’s helping me combat the blockages of procrastination and lack of self motivation around personal growth that I have been experiencing after having two children who are turning 3 and 4 this year, I am suddenly finding myself having a bit more time and more energy to do more for myself and our environment again. I am invigorated by your words, thank you for sharing your story. This new subscriber is looking forward to your next! ❤

This... This might be a game changer! Thank you for sharing this method/idea! Most productivity hacks don't work for me cus they all insist on discipline and forming habits, but I have ADHD and autism, so trying to force myself to do stuff when literally everything I do in life takes up a decent wad of energy actually ends up being really painful and ends up to me getting burnt out :(
I'm at a point in life where I know I have enough knowledge to try and optimise my life a bit more, but putting it into effect is really difficult, but this model might could be a missing piece.
I'll give this a go and hopefully be back to share my own findings :)

i really like this and will give this a go.
one comment tho, for my usecase definitely, is to not forget about the things you actually have to do
I have deadlines to reach, and while the video is more of a vlog to me (more on creative life showing than info sharing) and doesn't really give me any solid advice on how to be "productive" or still keep up with life's demands
I will try planning using the "to feel" rather than "todo". I think it would really help! (w some self-regulation on my end, bc I barely have enough wiggle time 😅)

I'm so bad at planning because I plan so many tasks that I not only don't have energy for them, but also forget to take breaks. I really like your approach as just taking the time to slow down and putting yourself in a good mood probably helps you finish the tasks you need to do as well. I'll also try to start focusing on my mood first to see if it helps me.
Also, just wanted to mention I really like the slow pace of this video. I got so calm and inspired from all the different activities you showed to get energised that I temporarily forgot that the initial purpose of the video was to teach us about a different way of planning

UA-cam algorithm occasionally hits a home run for me, and this is one of those times. I've seen backwards planning content before but implementing it never worked for me. I didn't need it for my job, and in my personal life I am mostly dealing with health, family and other issues - I don't need to force productivity into an already overfull schedule.
This is a breath of fresh air in terms of approaching life and ensuring my planning, which I do every day by simple necessity to keep my family, work and home on track, actually includes things in it that are good for me and will take me closer to *feeling* how I want to.
Your coffee picture is so cute 🥰 I embroider so it takes me a really long time to finish projects, but that feeling of displaying something you've created just can't be matched 😊

So happy to found this video because last week, in a middle of a really stressful situation, i was wonder to myself: how am I feeling and what can I do with this feeling right now? It was surprising find out that I was actually doing more of that activities that I use to put on my to do list asking me that question, that just thinking in that as something that I HAVE to do.
At the end it was actually a hard week but I eat better, do some exercise and complete some necessary task. Was incredible. So... that's what people was talking about when they say "listen to your body"...
Your video has helped me to be more conscious of what I did and think how to keep it in time. Thank you so much!

Thank you! I enjoyed so many effortless looking things in your vid, that I know take a trained artistic eye and skill that was built in many hours.
The time lapse of the plant rising, the leaves caressed by the wind and the satisfying poc poc poc of the first ball hit by you in the pickle ball game and much more. Love your art and your gratitudes you mentioned. I'm also grateful for having the time to learn and satisfy my curious nature.
Will try this more reflective way of planning that you came up with as a further step from the credited ted talk.
Wether or not it suits me, I'm glad this is out there in the world to be helpful to others. I think in my specific case some executive dysfunction from my disabilities will get in the way, but I guess less then with previous planning styles.

@mariemstc Thank YOU for sharing such a meaningful message! When I first started to film this idea, I was not sure how it would be received--"Almost every one of us has tasks that we have to tend to, regardless of how we might feel about them, so would people have time to turn inward and follow this 'to-feel-first' and 'to-do-next' approach? What if people don't have time for that?" After trying this method, a big realization for me is that I NEED to Find time (squeeze time if I have to) for my feelings precisely because I usually deprive them of the time they deserve. They are a crucial part of my well-being and I need to make them a priority as much as I can. I truly hope this approach can help you ❤️

This is such a good video. I have thought about this a lot. Many of us grow up considering only the opinions of others. We think, will this please my parents? Will this please my teachers? Will this save me from peer judgement or keep me out of trouble? We learn to never consider what we want, and depending on how judgmental our environment is, it can become extremely ingrained to not consider ourselves to the point that we struggle to even feel emotions, and it leads to long-term low-grade depression where we struggle to feel anything at all, especially joy from life.
Once we grow up, we mostly lose those motivators BUT, since it's the only way we know how to exist, we keep an imaginary judge in our head that we do things for (otherwise we feel lost and adrift). Since it's imaginary, that judge can start to get out of hand because it is driven by anxiety about the "right" way to do things. We need to switch over to doing things for ourselves and our own happiness in life, so we need to very mindfully force ourselves to be more inwardly motivated, and practice it until it becomes second nature. I think this is the perfect way to begin that switch because it has that mindful planner aspect behind it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here! I feel deeply moved as I read your message--it quite accurately describes my journey. I especially resonate with the consideration of everyone else's (authority figures and peers etc.) opinions but never our own and the "long-term low-grade depression". I'm also still working on how to practice doing things for myself and turning that into second nature. Thank you again for your thoughtful share ❤️

I love this idea! What would you do if you wanted to feel a different way on a different week

    • @heyspark
      @heyspark  3 місяці тому +2

Thank you! In that case, after I find out how I want to feel, I ask myself similar questions to find out activities that can contribute to that feeling. For example, if I want to feel calm, then some questions might be "Think of a time when you felt truly calm. What elements were present?", "Is there a ritual or routine that helps you transition into a calmer state?", "What kind of food or drink do you associate with feeling calm?" or "Who are the people in your life whose presence brings you a sense of calm? Do they have any qualities you can learn to adopt?" I would then do what I can to incorporate the answers to these questions into my week.
      I hope this helps!

Such a great video -- I'm stunned you don't have more subscribers yet, so I'm here to help and subscribed. :) I watch a lot of planner videos, and on my channel show how I record what I "have done" rather than what I need "to do." The steps you have will help me approach my day with a broader goal while ensuring all I do is feeding that goal without it being a "to do." Love it.

@josmith2002 hi again :) I just realized that there are some crochet patterns on Etsy. I used "frog coaster crochet pattern" and many came up; you can also search for "sheep/lamb crochet coaster pattern" and change the colors and face so it looks more like the frog coaster in the video. Hope this helps! :)

Yes! lol You can find some patterns on Etsy (I used "frog coaster crochet pattern" as key words and many came up). Searching for "sheep/lamb coaster crochet pattern" and then changing the colors and the design of the face in the middle will be the closest to the one in the video. Hope this is helpful! 🥰
