  • I ordered a full-sleeve temporary tattoo and here I'm showing how I applied it to a 30-ounce skinny stainless steel tumbler prepped with glow-in-the-dark paint. The result is a fantastic, glowy, sparkly tumbler featuring Jack and Oogie Boogie, perfect for Halloween!

    I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
    Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

      Thank you!! These tattoo tumblers can be really vexing! I’ve made about 30 just this Halloween season, and some go easily, but others make me want to scream. And I feel like I’m doing the exact same thing in each situation... 🤷‍♀️

      Interesting idea! I suppose you could!! I am not proficient at that technique and would make a total mess of the area, so for me, alcohol ink is definitely the way to go. But someone who knows how to do the smoke method could make the white areas look so cool that way!

    Hi Luxinda, I have just completed this tattoo tumbler, and my tattoo has little cracks of the tattoo design throughout. Do you know why? I am going to try a layer of epoxy over the glow in the dark spray after 24 hrs to see if it makes a difference. All in all once I put the epoxy layers on it has stopped the cracking of the tattoo design.

    • @Luxinda

      That happens to me occasionally, sometimes really significantly, like all over the cup. I’ve asked others about it, and none of is really sure why it happens, so that makes it hard to prevent. But after the last time it happened - I had sealed my cup with matte clear spray out in the bright, hot sun then it sat in my workroom overnight before I got around to putting on the resin - I wondered if the matte sealer was drying so fast in the heat that it actually shrank a tiny bit and those cracks are little stress tears. So since then I’ve waited until about an hour before I’m ready to resin, then I seal the cup outside in the shade with a semi-gloss clear spray, and resin within an hour. It could be a complete coincidence, but I haven’t had those cracks all over since then… I hope this helps!! I wish I knew more about what causes that.

    Okay so how bad is the fumes from the resin? Because my work area is my dining room. And my family is always around.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому +1

      Oh, there are soooo many debates on this topic, and I have yet to find a 100% definitive answer. Some say the fumes are toxic once the parts A and B are mixed until the cup is fully cured (3 or more days later). Some say the fumes are not “toxic” as in poisonous, but, like some people with bee stings, there can be a really nasty allergic reaction, and it can happen now or years from now. Some people work with resin for years without a respirator and never have any problems at all. Others wear a respirator religiously with ventilation and gloves and at some point have such a bad reaction anyway that they can no longer use epoxy resin at all ever again. 🤷‍♀️ All I can say for sure is to read the literature that comes with your particular resin and follow the safety guidelines outlined in that literature. If it says you need PPE (respirator and gloves minimum), then your family will, too… I’m sorry to be the bearer of negative news. I do know some resin artists who not only don’t use PPE themselves but let their kids in the room with them. It really comes down to personal choice and how you feel about it once you do your research.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому

      Ugh, I accidentally deleted your follow-up question, I’m sorry! You asked is any resin good to use, right? As in, is there a safe one? Another complicated answer. Some people who are allergic to one brand have no problems at all with a different brand. But it’s all different for each person. I use KS Resin the most - it is supposed to be a non-toxic resin (again, you will find folks who insist all resin is toxic, period.), and I’ve had no issues but I do wear a respirator and gloves, plus I run two fans pulling air out the craft room window, and an air purifier. There are folks who would insist that’s still not good enough, and that you should have a completely ventilated room separate from the house altogether. So I can’t answer your question. I haven’t reacted to KS or the other brands I’ve tried (ALE and MNG Glass-Coat), but I might some day. I’m sorry it’s so complicated. It’s a lot like bee stings. Some people don’t react at all and some folks go into anaphylactic shock immediately. And beekeepers who have been stung countless times over the years can suddenly, without any warning, develop a severe reaction and have to get rid of their beehives and carry an epipen for the rest of their lives. There’s no one answer.

    Would it be possible to do this on a glow in the dark tumbler instead of doing all the layers?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому +1

      You mean start with a tumbler that's already a glow-in-the-dark cup when you purchase it, and then just put the tattoo on? Sure, I don't see why not -- it would probably work great. You'd still need something over the tattoo, though, to seal it in or it will wear off pretty quickly. I'm not sure spray varnish would be protective enough. A layer of resin would do it.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому +1

      No, I apply the tattoo directly onto the last layer of glow spray paint once it has dried. If the glow spray paint seems very rough to the touch, you definitely can spray a coat of clear gloss spray paint over the glow spray paint, let that dry, then apply the tattoo.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  4 роки тому

      Brittany Drake, for this cup, I didn’t use any actual glitter, but when I mixed up the resin for the final layer, I added about 10 drops or so of Marabu alcohol ink in the color Rainbow. It adds a lot of sparkle without actually using any glitter. In fact, I put it in almost every layer of resin I use on every cup, just for the extra sparkle.
