I'm putting an engine on a Schwinn Stingray with a Headstrom trike rear end. Both rear axles have traction via freewheel sprockets. This makes it so I have to pedal start the engine. I think I'm running a 25 to 16 crank to center shaft. And boy it still takes a ton of leg to start it. Sometimes it kicks over on the second try. Other times it takes a block to start.
Dude that gurgle or what ever sound, that is what mine does when i go above half throttle, and everytime it makes that sound, it would actually slow me down , then would come out of it, when i plyed with the throttle. im not sure what my problem, is, im still riding it like it is tho. lol Thanks for another good video man.
@@LAHover Yeah man, try BMX parts, like the Stem and Handlebars, you can trust that stuff (it's a hair stronger than MTB parts), and there's about a half inch more room for the extra brake and the throttle. Man i wish YT had pics, lol I think I went too far on mine but its sick as! The height thing I tried all kinds of stuff but in the end I chose to change my actual riding style on the faker, it's kinda like riding an 80's enduro almost, so leaning is more scary but I got used to the height pretty quick, and I noticed you run a MTB tread for most of your builds, try MAXXIS HOLY ROLLERS, great half-half tire with awesome performance on street and dirt, and they last too, I noticed with the knobbies I lost quite a bit of turn confidence, so I switched. anyways man, sorry for the book, I just get excited when someone mentions the Fakers, I friggin love em!
omg, i just got back from pushing/riding my motorised bike, it broke down!!! miles and miles i had to pedal it. must be the spark!!!! i kept thinking i must take a spark tool and spare cdi etc like la hover said!!
I ride with an extra magneto, CDI, 3 different spark plugs, clutch pads, tubes and tube repair kit, every gasket I could need, and every single tool I would need to take the whole bike apart.
I would like some advice on the hub adapter for the rear sprocket. I have to use the ring spacer on it. Wanted to see if it would be better to put a set screw through all of it or wood ruff keys? Is there a way to contact u for advice
Your on the right track but I would try fixing carb, spark etc and do timing last. Biggest issue is exhaust at open throttle it doesn't creat back pressure as it should so will never be perfect. Check engine squish with some plasticine in between piston and head. Squish between .7 to .9 will work anything more and will need race fuel.
I had enthusiast when was younger, but my doctor gave me a shot & it cleared right up. I just don't have enough dimes to get a 85 yet. I'm workin' on it. We had a hurricane & it's a bitch to ride because of trees & stuff.
My experience with a bike kit like this is that there are scant quality parts that you can buy for them. I've yet to find a decent coil for mine that gives a strong spark and I've even tried switching the magneto too and I can't figure out which part is the problem if not both of them. The bike only worked for the first 2 months I used it. I just bought a new carb too as well as the coil and hopefully that will fix the problem of the bike not being able to run unless I'm going down hill or have built up lots of speed befire hitting a hill. You can't trust Amazon sellers or eBay either. There are so many garbage listing that it's near impossible to find anything decent. I've also learned that these bikes need constant maintenance in order to function. By constant I mean be prepared to clean and rebuild the carb every couple months and expect the coil to need replacing every couple months too. And expect to have to buy multiple substandard or non working replacement parts, also never expect that they will come with the correct sparkplug, ever as they won't. and dont think that buy8ng the more expensive ones will be better they aren't and will be the same as the cheap ones and same w8th the red so called Racing ones they are just red and not better at all. And because the wires all have spade terminals you will have to put new spade terminals back on the wires to get a refund. I've never seen wiring that uses them on the kits but the replacements all have them. And the laminations on the magneto are usually horrendous and are normally bent or loose. They are also made from the worst grade of steel ever and are thick. So don't expect a decent spark. It's a dice roll to get lucky and relieve good parts and are rare. Why this is the case is that there's obviously only one or two maker of these kits and the one that makes the crappy ones has 95% of the listings that exist. I'd be glad to pay 400 for a quality one but due to the 400 priced ones being the same ones as the 179 priced kits you are wasting your money spending the extra. If anyone knows of a quality source let me know.
Okay so I'm going back to this video and I need your information this video is on adjusting the timing on these phantoms I have my phantom in great shape it's running great it's just when I hit a cruise it starts 4 stroking
I just got one of these engines, haven't even been able to look at it as I haven't been home... I would love to know how removing one of the gaskets affect things on this engine.
@@Hunter1st ok, i have not experimented with stacking gaskets up, they way i see it, more gaskets means more potential for leaks. but anyway if you raise the whole cylinder 1 mm, it changes everything, so where is the benefit? more compression above means less in the crankcase, ports opening earlier mean ports closing earlier, its hardly beneficial. anyway my 66cc engine is not running i had to pedal it 11 miles!
Did you ever find out What the double squish gaskets were about? Because mine also came with two also. Thank you for the videos and for always awning me back. Great reviews and content
Ive had my crank seal leaking so badly that oil poured out of the stator cover as soon as I loosened the bolts, but engine still running! Those seals are tricky sometimes and each side is of a different thickness.
See things like this is part of a hobby not having to fix part that blow up after 1 -6 rides.a hobby is where u do upgrades when u want not cuz a brand new engine blows up lol.. for this I guess I melt in the sun blaah hahahah 😉👍👍
Hey bud I have a question for you if you don't mind answering. I bought a JRL half moon exhaust for my 100cc non branded motor, is it any good that you know of? The original exhaust that came with my engine got broken by me loosening the cap bolt to remove the cap and check the inside of it and to add loctite on the nut. So this is why I had to get a new exhaust and the JRL 40mm half moon exhaust was only 20 bucks so I went with it over the stock exhaust. Also I would like to add that I got a high performance 100cc motor kit that resembles the YD 100 and all the parts I have purchased and changed have been for the YD 100 and they fit to a T . I have a 50mm piston, 8mm studs, and a 1 piece top end with 40mm exhaust bolt on and intake. That's why I think it's a YD 100 unbranded, same specs. It also has a ton of torque and speed.
They work, but don't do much other than make the bike louder. You might get a bit more power if it's less restrictive than the stock exhaust, but most are not tuned for these motors.
Yesterday I hopped on my bike with the phantom 85 to continue breaking it in and no power haven’t changed a thing from stock. Motor rips I just have no clue why mine doesn’t. Takes half throttle to barely get you moving on flat ground
Make sure yours did not come with a backwards piston. Guy I was helping the other day had one come backwards... Guess that is still a thing. May also be an issue with the reeds, one may not be sealing. Could be allot of other things too, hopefully just something simple.
L.A., l built my last bike with a Kent frame, the Phantom 85 has not over powered the frame. I get 55mph out of it. Just make sure that you have front suspension. Bikes By Bill.
Speaking from experience (currently working on it) go over those BBR kits well. I just dropped the wheels off at a local bike shop. Not true & hubs no where close to centered. They're a solid start but not ready to go outta the box.
Theres a problem with my 49cc where it doesnt go idle and it instead stalls when i stop going fast do you have to do something to the clutch to make it go idle?
to hold your shaft take the plug out and feed a cotton rope into the cylinder leave a handle on the outside then bring up to tdc. rope will lock the cylinder.
I don't know if there really is anything on the market that stronger than a steel frame Kent or Cranbrook. The Phatmoto frame is reinforced, but even that's made out of aluminum. I would think the best thing to do is to take steel frame Walmart bike and bring it to a welder to add support.
@@bryduhbikeguy The $3,000 up to $10,000 name brand mountain bikes are a complete rip off. If people refused to pay those prices, the prices would dramatically drop....A $5,000 MTN bike is going to be way better than a $300 Scwinn Taff but nowhere near $4,700 better. I can understand a Pro MTN biker who makes a living riding paying $10,000 for the best of the best but at $5 & $10K the bike should be all Titanium alloy and carbon fiber.
Will the phantom exhaust bolt on to a stock china girl motor if yes is it worth buying the exhaust for a stock china motor any gains of power low down on stock nt carb but high comp head would be nice to see a side by side stock with phantom exhaust and stock only high comp head phantom exhaust see the difference between them
I love the idea of those gas bike frames, not that I can get my hands on one anyway, but I'm nervous about aluminium frames. I've not had great experiences with aluminium. My Mk4 (green bike) ended up chewing out the rear wheel dropouts. I took the grinder to to smooth it out and it happened yet again so I retired the bike
La hover my phantom 85cc make a really loud rattling noise when I full throttle and then I let off it makes a loud chattering noise. Can you help me? Don't know what it is
Hey there fellow motorized bike enthusiasts. Just racking my brain over this little over half throttle the engine just almost completely falls on its face. And I had just installed a new mz65 expansion chamber exhaust pipe clone. And a CNC high compression head. Right off the bat starts right up idle's great. But While I'm riding and start to give some throttle the rpm's are pretty high. But like I was saying little past half throttle it just starts breaking up . does anyone know what the problem is?
So as soon as you added the pipe, and the head it started acting up? Make sure there is nothing you may have changed during installation like a bad electrical connection, or melted wires... After that I would go back to the stock head and see what she does. If nothing changes re install the stock pipe. We need to make sure we are not having an issue with the upgrades. Also make sure your head gasket is not leaking, your squish gap is not much bigger than 1mm, and for good measurer change your spark plug.
I was wondering if you can give me some more information on that I've watched the video now like you said it's okay for someone who wants to just punch the gas all the time but there's times I want to just cruise it goes from two stroking to four stroking.
The adjustment I'm making in this video is for that exact situation. If needle adjustments are not enough to sooth out your cruising rpms, than a timing adjustment can often do the trick.
I tried this on my BT100 and yes, it did smoothed out the mid RPMS and my idle sounds much better. I shaved off about 1mm in the woodruff key. However I still have some 4 stroking on top end , probably carb tuning issues since I'm using a Bofeng carb.
i noticed my bike dosent sound quite right when im mid rpm because im still also trying to tune it and break it in but when i do a mini pull to varry the rpms it sound like its having a way better time

Hey man thats a rly nice exhaust pipe, where did you find it?? Sick vid btw , how'd u figure this stuff out? 🧐
Recommended 11 gauge spokes
Interesting i might have to try this i would love a chill cruise speed
Dude that gurgle or what ever sound, that is what mine does when i go above half throttle, and everytime it makes that sound, it would actually slow me down , then would come out of it, when i plyed with the throttle. im not sure what my problem, is, im still riding it like it is tho. lol Thanks for another good video man.
would it be feasible to put something in the gap in the woodruff key so that the magnet wont rotate out of timing?
According to one of my viewers yes. I have never tried it but he said it worked for him.
@@LAHover any idea what he used to fill the gap?
You're gonna like that faker frame man, they're real light and strong. Can't wait to see both the motor and frame done
It's growing on me. Had the change up the seat and bars tho... To dang tall for that racing stance lol
@@zachgrabow9541 i would love to see your bike you should make a video
omg, i just got back from pushing/riding my motorised bike, it broke down!!! miles and miles i had to pedal it. must be the spark!!!! i kept thinking i must take a spark tool and spare cdi etc like la hover said!!
I ride with an extra magneto, CDI, 3 different spark plugs, clutch pads, tubes and tube repair kit, every gasket I could need, and every single tool I would need to take the whole bike apart.
Hiland Coolley is a great steel frame choice.
I put my engine in a bike from a second hand sports center and it’s been more than good
My experience with a bike kit like this is that there are scant quality parts that you can buy for them.
I would love to know how removing one of the gaskets affect things on this engine.
any gasket removed would make it not run so...
@@gewizz2 not true. Some engines come with 2 cylinder gaskets to increase headroom when not needed.
@@Hunter1st a gasket squeezed between the cylinder will change nothing in performance.
@@gewizz2 it actually can greatly. I don't know where you've gotten this information.
How did you mount the gas tank on this Kent 7 speed 26 inch pos bike ? Took mine back cause I couldn't mount mine .
Is squishgap the distance between the center of the spark plug and the end of the bent piece?
The distance between the top of the piston @TDC, and the lowest section of the head.
Larry Shaver....Google piston squish band- image the picture is very descriptive.
Where did you get that intake manifold and exhaust?
The girth of your exhaust pipe is very intimidating sir 😅
LMAO
LOL>....
I like your idea with the frame though that's a good choice
Where can I buy this motor package?
Yesterday I hopped on my bike with the phantom 85 to continue breaking it in and no power haven’t changed a thing from stock. Motor rips I just have no clue why mine doesn’t. Takes half throttle to barely get you moving on flat ground
Make sure yours did not come with a backwards piston. Guy I was helping the other day had one come backwards... Guess that is still a thing. May also be an issue with the reeds, one may not be sealing. Could be allot of other things too, hopefully just something simple.
You should check out CDH frames
Lol wheelie story. Been there done that. Day 2 testing ebike build. It did a wheelie. I didn’t even have rear brakes hooked up at the time.
Thanks for sharing
I burned a hole on my piston messing with the ignition timing. Hard to find good pistons. Any recommendations.
You ever get around to the rebuild of roketa?
what jet are you using
Wonder if you can get offset woodruff keys for these like you can get for cars? Might have a few more options.
I have a magnet that it's timing position is on the 12 o'clock position but cant find any information on youtube about it.
PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON THE BBR F ZERO
Theres a problem with my 49cc where it doesnt go idle and it instead stalls when i stop going fast
do you have to do something to the clutch to make it go idle?
Do u think the zeda 80 will put out more performance and go faster with an upgraded carburetor and a racing cylinder head
mine sounds like a Volbeat song when he sings vibrato and tries to gargle water simultaneously
Hey La where do I get 49 cc sticker for my engine
Exactly what I’m dealing with!!! It’s self accelerating and won’t idle right
Where is the best place to buy a phantom 85
Does this engine work with a Schwinn Trailway Hybrid 700c/28'?
to hold your shaft take the plug out and feed a cotton rope into the cylinder leave a handle on the outside then bring up to tdc. rope will lock the cylinder.
I don't know if there really is anything on the market that stronger than a steel frame Kent or Cranbrook. The Phatmoto frame is reinforced, but even that's made out of aluminum. I would think the best thing to do is to take steel frame Walmart bike and bring it to a welder to add support.
Sadly I think you may be right, reinforcing a cheap steel frame could honestly be the best way to go. We will see how to new build works out...
$800.freaking dollars for a bike without the motor?Wowzaa.I do see that it has some really great options, but wow.
I have seen 212 Predators on those, so they must be sold.
I can understand a Pro MTN biker who makes a living riding paying $10,000 for the best of the best but at $5 & $10K the bike should be all Titanium alloy and carbon fiber.
old road bikes and big bmx bikes do me well. good, strong steel frames
Will the phantom exhaust bolt on to a stock china girl motor if yes is it worth buying the exhaust for a stock china motor any gains of power low down on stock nt carb but high comp head would be nice to see a side by side stock with phantom exhaust and stock only high comp head phantom exhaust see the difference between them
No, the exhaust port and stud pattern is to wide.
Can you please do a video on the "110"cc ebay motor kits?
So slowing the spark makes it quieter?
Is this situation yes.
I know the color is called "Brushed aluminum" but hopefully is steel, or at least a quality aluminum alloy. Thanks for the heads up!
La hover my phantom 85cc make a really loud rattling noise when I full throttle and then I let off it makes a loud chattering noise. Can you help me? Don't know what it is
I have a walmart bike with a hd wheel from grubee would you trust that? or would the 85 eat the frame
*its a steal frame too
This motor will slowly kill a cheap frame. May last week's or months. Not recommended, I'd looks at a yd100 or wildcat pk80
Pero cuanto levanta? Velocidad máxima? Buen video 👌
What throttle setup is that?
How would one tell if one needs to adjust the ignition timing?
My bike does that but at high speed and full throttle, what should I do
if you stick a small drop of grease in the crankshaft before you install the key it wont get pulled by the magnet
i noticed my bike dosent sound quite right when im mid rpm because im still also trying to tune it and break it in but when i do a mini pull to varry the rpms it sound like its having a way better time
I took my schwinn cruiser and added aluminum rims cause i like speed and the heavy load wont cause my rims to break. Top speed 70mph.
What's in the cup holder
