Son of a biscuit eater! The first one of those 1 pounders I ever bought I asked someone how to refill them. The answer: you can’t. Chuck it when it runs out. And recycling doesn’t take them. Now I ain’t exactly a tree hugger, but that’s a helluva waste! I’m 68, and you just ‘learnt’ me a lesson. Thanks pal.
You sound exactly like my mother. In fact, I showed her and she died laughing at "son of a biscuit eater" because nobody else around here says it. Thats great lol have a nice day John
Why not be a tree hugger? Nature is ancient and is our home and being ruined by industrial capitalism and over population. Don’t you have a heart and respect for nature. With out the basic natural resources you would be dead .
Bought the adapter, got a tank of propane, followed your instructions, filled my two plastic-bottomed bottles (@13.2oz) to 28.2, and 28.4 ounces... close enough! I have a lot of metal bottom bottles that weigh @14.2oz, so I filled one of them to the same @28.2 oz... I think that should be fine also... thanks for the video! I've been buying these darn propane bottles for years, and they are about $6-$8 at this point. I still have eight of the metal-bottom bottles that I need to fill (including the one that is currently on my camp stove, that I cook on in my small studio apartment), and ecstatic that I no longer have to shell big-bucks on individual bottles! Mahalo from Hawaii!
Just bought a patio heater and some of the 1# canisters. When I told my brother about my purchase, he asked me if I was refilling my canisters. I had no idea you could do it. As soon as I got home I looked it up on you tube and here is your video. Will save me lots of money. Thanks for making a great video.
I work at a propane company and I'm certified to fill. I wouldn't advise doing this yourself at home but if you did, wear insulated gloves and eye protection to be safe. Cylinders aren't meant to be turned over and this could cause the bonnet (part you turn to open valve) or the relief valve (the protrusion on the opposite end of where you you hook up) to leak, so never stand behind a relief valve. Also you shouldn't have to purge air from your cylinders. Most either are prepurged before the leave the factory or are supposed to be purged before the 1st fill up. The seal on cylinders is generally airtight while not connected and even if a tiny bit of air somehow got inside, it would be pushed out at the start of you using the gas. When you get a cylinder filled anywhere and they're bleeding the cylinder while filling, it's actually to tell when it's full (filling by volume, not on a scale filled by weight) because when the liquid propane reaches the dip tube that is set to the maximum fill line, it sprays the liquid so you visually know when it's filled. That's also one way to remove gas from an over filled cylinder if you don't have the set up to drain it the right way. Sorry for the long message but I've seen plenty of people get freeze burns from propane, myself included.
Hey Jonathan I store my one pound propane bottles outside in my enclosed back porch; will these bottles continue to give gas even after I’ve stored them there in sub-zero weather? In other words will the cold adversely affect it’s output?
Just wear gloves guys .U dnt need a store cos they r a fucken rip off.wear gloves ..glassses and sit away from the other small valve ul save hundreds .stores say don't do this cos it takes their business and profit away and they rip us off so screw the stores .do it urself and b safe ok.its so easy to do and cheap as chips .don't throw it money away by buying new ones .it's a no brainer guys
Alexsandra Rokas yep.so wrap them in foil thick layers then wrap them in a few old days and they won't freeze or get hot.i do that and they stay at a nice temperature.foil first then wrap up each in 3 rags .use a safety pin so the last rag U wrap won't come loose .if not just use some strong tape and tape it up .most things can b done at home but shops take advantage of stupid people.home fixing and filling is dirt cheap and great if ur on a budget.
Unless you aren’t really looking at the blowing the propane gas into the environment? LMFFAO! If it’s going to keep you from freezing...the environment will survive the little bit of gas way better than having all those empty bottles continuously being buried in a landfill. They don’t take them for scrap metal as they might have gas in them... Keep on Truckin’!!!
I just came back from watching other videos on this subject , and I am glad I watched this video first ! Because one guy couldn’t get the tank over half full but said in case of emergency it was better than nothing others took way longer to fill the tanks and they advised freezing the tanks first , which is a waist of time out of 5 videos You Win ! You did it in far less time and much easier !
Thanks for the accurate info, is most informative for the DIY'er BTW, scientifically, you are not purging air - it is propane and allows some of the liquid to boil off, and that liquid to vapor change of state absorbs heat, just like the refrigerant in your AC. That is why you do not have to 'freeze' these bottles to add more liquid, by purging you have lowered the temperature and thus the vapor pressure of that tank. Also doing a fill by weight assures that you maintain a 80% or less fill on the propane. any more fill than 80% may cause the tank to burst when it gets warmer and the liquid expands- it needs a vapor area above the liquid or the tank will burst. Well done!
Tom, the Schrader valve on top of the tank is actually a relief valve. It will prevent overpressure, for any reason, in the tank including due to overfilling.
The best advice he gave! I tried different methods and bled them all. I filled up 500 grains right away after putting the empty can in the freezer for 5 minutes. It refilled in 30 seconds without any preparation. THE SECOND LAW of thermodynamics works better than a lot of comments!
The whole point of the video is you do not need to put in a freezer, just bleed them a few times I mean, if you're a lazy bum. Then, by all means. It's OK that I put in a little effort a couple minutes. Because I will have all fifteen of mine filled before you get them playing in your freezer. With that said, most of the time, you could sit the big tank in the sun/the small ones in the shade for the same results. In both ways still depend on the ambient temperature of how fast they fill.
@@HowieRoll Haha. More than one way to pluck a chicken. If I put one of those in my freezer, a few weeks later my wife would say, what the heck is that thing doing in there? 15 minutes and I've moved along to something else.
I have been filling for many years for my torches , and just screw it on wait 2 minutes before taking off , no venting, no weighing , no problems. But I don’t need to have max fill. Your procedure is thorough, well done!
I guarantee If you weigh your bottles depending on what the ambient temperature is, you would probably be averaging about twenty percent. That wouldn't even work for most people.
The best part of doing this (to me anyways) is not the saving cash part, it's the disposal of the little 1 lb bottles, they add up over a summer & it keeps em outa the landfill ! Thanks for the video.
I have the same heater. The Mr. Heater Portable Buddy and I just connect a hose to the big tank and connect it to the heater. I use a second big tank and connect it to my stove. when they empty I get them refilled. No mess with all those little bottles and no spending all that time refilling them.
For those that have the room to carry a 20lb tank or bigger there is an adapter hose that goes from tank to small barbecue, lantern, or whatever propane device that uses the same fitting for the little bottles. It's rather inexpensive. For those that need to carry a small propane cylinder, great video, thanks for the post.👍 It seems to me that somewhere in my travels I have even seen a "tree" that threads directly to a large propane tank and has 3 or 4 outlets. One on top of the tree for your lantern with more fittings down the tree for your camping stove and BBQ,etc. Just thought I would throw that out there for anyone interested.
There is also a distribution pipe that attaches to a large bottle. You can put a lantern on top of that distribution pipe, and run to other pieces of equipment using hoses off of that distribution pipe . I used to put the lantern on top, run the heater on one hose, and a propane stove on the last. sitting on most campground picnic tables the lantern was at seven or 8 feet . That distributed light in the camping area pretty well. on a sidenote, always carry extra O-rings for the fittings in your toolkit. I once went to the camping area without them and found that my hoses were leaking.
They also sell propane tanks smaller than 20lb. I have a 7lb tank for car camping. It's lighter & takes less space in the trunk. Good for a few days of base camp, as we use it to power a 2 burner stove. And a gas lantern for an hour after sundown.
Being a cautious guy, I watched several videos about this before I tried it. Yours seems to cover the material well, and your method is quicker and easier than some others. Thanks! I found that 3-4 cycles of fill-and-purge got each cylinder about 3/4 full. I figured, that's good enough! I like to leave some safety margin for these little cylinders, since they're considered "disposable," and they always have a "Do not refill" warning on the label.
I seriously use those one pound tanks all the time for my catalytic heater and Coleman cook stove. I honestly don't know how I have never thought of this before I just stumbled on your video. Thanks so much for the video man! You just saved me a ton of money. So funny how you sometimes stumble on the most random things you weren't even looking for.👍
I love this video. I bought the attachment & wasnt sure the best way to do it . I found it. Here in Nova Scotia, I pay $6-8 each. Now I fill my big tank for about $15 and it works out to a little over $1 each to fill the small ones. Wow. Thank you!!
@@HowieRoll haha.sorry, lol, not sorry! The savings goes right back into camping. I take at least 10 kids at a time for a week camping every year. I provide everything except their clothing. From a toothbrush to sleeping bags to crocs. This saves a lot for me. 😁 Thanks.
I have been refilling for a year. Saving is incredible. I added a stovetop fan that perches on top of the front screen to move the hot air forward. Great setup!
I have been filling these for about 25 years. Camping and boating on Lake George. The instructions got my valve, same valve as yours said pre chill the empty bottles before chilling. Try it. It may eliminate the repeated additional fillings. Great video. JoeB
25 years really? I have been sceptical about the safety of doing this refilling thing, so if you been doing it successfully for that long I think i can trust to do it now, thanks for the tip
I have refilled mine for several years, but I always put the 1 pound bottle in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes, they fill up fast, and they are full!!
Thanks for the tip to release the excess air from the top and not the Shrader valve, and what the correct empty/full weights should be. We've wrecked a couple bottles with the "forceps on the rubber" method until we saw your tip. Great video.
Thanks. Great info. I probably 'collected' dozens of these 1lb bottles over the years, reluctant to just throw them away. Your video allows me to re-purpose those things as a back-up for a rainy day.
This title is bold.... and spot on. This is without a doubt the right way. I did this using a full tank and the camping bottles filled exactly as you describe, in very short time. Thanks for taking the time to share this valuable knowledge. Awesome video.
Just bought a new house this summer, and now we're having one of the worst winters in a decade. Nothing like a couple cold nights to make you realize what camping gear you DON'T have, and I'm glad to have found this vid! Been rationing the bottles/heat cause of how much they are, especially now, but after this I'm gonna give the refill a shot. Certainly cheaper lol Thanks for doing this! Super easy to follow, and makes a seemingly stressful activity a little easier to handle. Even three years after posting :)
Thank you for this video, I just filled 8 of those empty 16oz canisters.. I was holding on to them, because I knew there had to be a way to fill them, after watching your video, I bought a scale, then a 30 Gallon Propane tank.. I Had the Tank filled, and within an hour or so, I filled all 8 16oz mini tanks, thanks to your informational video.. Thank you again.. NC.
It makes sense to keep these tanks and refill them, I currently pay $14.87 plus tax for 15 pounds verses $7.37 for 2 one pound tanks. This little buddy heater is an awesome little heater.
Ordered that adapter from harbor freight in 1995 that's how long I've been filling tanks. Great video I'll be purging instead of freezing the tanks from now on.
WOW! Just went through the "Texas Freeze" with snow that does not melt with a flame. 🤯 Soooo glad to stumble upon this video. Ty ty God bless and protect you. 🇨🇱🇺🇸🙏✝️❤️
This is brilliant. For all these years, I’ve been settling for a 6 ounce or even a 4 ounce fill and was trying to think of ways I could increase the quantity of propane. I was thinking of putting the bottles in the freezer first. This is absolutely Genius. I just got done being disappointed with three refills. I’ll come back and let you know how it goes. By the way, this is July 7, 2024. I wish people would say the actual date they posted some thing rather than having to rely on “five years ago,“ etc. UPDATE: I tried it and it worked marvelously. Thank you!
I have had the adapter for thirty years. It has an extension out about 8" and 90deg down so bottle is upright. I just pull the safety valve to purge until it spews a little and shut off, will fill to proper height. Cut a bottle open and you can see the safety tube extends down into liquid when full. Works for me. I leave them outside over night in case one is leaking a bit before I store in camper..
Great vid Sir and I just got my valve via Ebay and did 3 of my own Coleman refills this afternoon for PA deer hunting season which starts next Saturday. Costs me $8 here in Amishland to have my 20lb LP bottle filled locally and I didn't even put a dent in it filling 3 Colemans. Thanks much for the air purging tip.
You're the only one I've seen showing how to bleed the pressure off to get more in the small tank. I've tried this before and gave up because I couldn't get much gas in the smaller one. Now I know, thanks for the video.
I just did it for the first time and it was well below freezing here. I had no problem getting them full. The first one weighed 36 oz. It will be interesting for me to fill them when the weather is warmer and need to use that bleeding method. Well I'm guessing anyways that, that is why I was able to overfill the first one so much.
@@precision_Air Hey Bryan, when you say (You want that stuff) , I know it's vaporized liquid gas we bleed out but I know of no way to save it. That is the only way I know of to drop the pressure in the small container so more liquid from the 5gal. tank will go into the smaller bottle. When the pressure in both tanks get equal, liquid will now flow. I may have misunderstood what you meant.
@@SVMSICE yeah just bleed it like the guy in this video does. I tried the built in purge valve and BROKE my first bottle doing it, I heard it having a very tiny HISS. It took over 2 weeks to leak so it was an extremely tiny leak but still dangerous. I only purge from the top now
Thank you for putting this on I have traumatic brain injury and a lot of times I tend to forget even though I may not forget you now because you're teaching me something that I need to know if you look at my Facebook page you'll know what I'm talking about but thank you for teaching me something new today
Watching this video and learning a better method of refilling my propane cylinders - saves me time and money $$ Not having to explain to my wife why I have smelly propane cylinders in our freezer - priceless ! .......Thanks man!
@@Mr4twitch Just make sure you get the proper hose or filter. The oils in the hose leach out and will ruin a Mr. Buddy Heater and similar things. The guy on the Primal Outdoors channel has a video about it and an engineer from the Mr Heater company commented in the comment section.
@@schristiansen3151 That can be true, but it depends on the construction of the hose. Some hoses are designed to work without filters, such as the Mr. Heater F273704 hose. "Does not leach oil into the fuel stream; eliminates the need for a fuel filter"
Hey Howie Roll, thanks for the information. I go camping regularly and you are correct the small propanes get expensive when you have to keep buying them. I’ll save a bunch if money now thanks to you.
Thank you Sir, Ive tried different methods befor and never could get a full bottle.. Inever thought of purging the main valve.. I tried the schrader and had leakers.. Havent teied again since. Your video is just what I needed
What?? No Freezer?/ No Heat blanket?/ No weird adapters?? No shrader valve screw ups?? BLASPHEMY!! Hahahahhaha - thanks man, I *knew* there was an easier way, just had to wait for the right teacher to come along. Thanks again.
If you can be patient the same technique works if you just crack the large tank valve open. Leave it for 20 minutes. And voila. No need to freeze or bleed or anything.
Aye thanks. I only just started started camping and thought to myself, “these canisters seem really well built, why aren’t they refillable?”. So I ended up here.
Thank you! You made it simple and I am now filling my own bottles at a fraction of the cost!! I do use the hose model adapter with the shut off valve and 3ft hose find it convenient. Aslo as viewer Macleod mentioned most important part keeping the bottles out of the landfill scenario, recycling the bottles is confusing and hard to find a place to recycle them and not to mention GAS PRICES to get to a recycler come to think of it might be a good business to do exchanges like companies do with 20lb tanks. Anyway your much appreciated Howie!!!!!!
Where I live, any 'dead' pressurized containers must have a hole in them to be accepted for recycling. Doesn't matter how you make the hole as long as it's clearly not going to hold pressure ever again.
Thank you for your video it was extremely informative and very well done. I've been refilling my bottles but never bleeding the air out LOL thank you for your time and your effort!
You are not bleeding out “air”. You are bleeding out vapor propane. Which is extremely flammable. The only reason your able to add more liquid after that is because the cylinder is now colder than when you started. As liquid propane has a boiling point of -44 deg. DO NOT REFILL YOUR OWN cylinders or tanks. If you over fill you will explode.
I just purchased a refill adadpter. Not much luck finding the 1lb tanks around. We don’t use them much, but have forgot the 20lb tank and keep these in the camper for back up. On a side note, $2.50 a gallon was nice pre Brandon. Now we are about $4 a gallon.
I found that instead of freezing the tanks, put your first fill in the small bottle, unhook it, and shake it back and forth a few times. That will make the bottle extremely cold just like it was right out of the freezer! I've been using that method and it works really well. Easier than freezing your bottles in freezer. ✌️
Here's the real value of this video IMHO. It's gaining the skill more than saving the dollars. You never know in this crazy world when the 1 pounders might simply be unavailable. As far as I can see, this would work on a supply tank of almost any size; even the large pigs. Well done!
Well Done, Simple to the point with good info and NO BS. Bought the adapter tried only once after freezing no go. Now I know it takes more than once and purging to fill. Thanks
I found that putting the empty cylinder in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes before really helps by sucking in the propane much faster from the 20# tank. Good tip though about purging the air out in order to get a little more in. Propane weighs about 4.25 lbs per gallon. Where I live here in LA it's usually around $3.99 per gallon so that would cost me only about $1 to fill each 1 lb cylinder. I think Harbor Freight sells the propane adapter now.
I just did this for the first time. I filled six tanks in half the time it would have taken me to drive to Walmart to find out they had no stock. I have been buying at Wal-Mart, two for $8. They have been out for more than a week. I found some at tractor supply yesterday, two for $12. No thanks. Thanks for the concise instructions.
I have watched a ton of videos about refilling the one pounder and stopped at yours because you tell everything we need to know and you tell it very well !!! Thank you sir!👍
Great system. Only caveat is I would recommend using a filter between a refilled can and your Heater Buddy. Those have very fine orifices and can get clogged if there is any garbage in the large cylinder that ends up in the small one. You just would hate to ruin a good Heater Buddy. Perfect for BBQs though.
Actually you're not correct. The problem is is when you use a hose without the filter the propane breaks down the lining and clogs the Buddy Heater, any other way you're not really in a math problem... Unless you buy a hose from Buddy Heater and it is designed for that to be used without a filter
Thank u so much my electricity an gas just got shut off last week an I'm trying to care for my kids an being able to feed them an keep them warm at night has been a pain. But tell i an get my stuff back on these lil green cans has been working wonders untill I ran out. An your video was a life saver THANK U SO MUCH 💓 💗 💖
I wish you the best to get on track!!! You probably already know if you live in or near a city, find out where every food bank is, and hit every one of them. Some have more nutritious food, some have better snacks, etc. I have been there. Bless your heart!!!
I used to fill my 1lb bottles this way but I had a valve attached to my 1000 gal tank that let's me fill up my 1, 20 and 100lb tanks. Saves a hell of alot of money since it's alot less per gal to get my 1000 gal filled than the small bottles.
Excellent - the other guys with a vid didn't show the purge part and that is everything. Makes total sense - you have to ease the gaseous gas to lower the pressure in the canister before anything more will come into it. Thanks for the great share.
I bought my adapter at Walmart. Finally got tired of refilling cans and bought an adapter hose to run my Buddy Heater and portable grill off of a 30# tank.
I know this is a older video but thanks for the info. Giving the total ounces per can really helped. I had two cans fill to 32 ounces so I released pressure down to 29 ounces just to be safe. My fitting releases after a certain amount of pressure but still allowed two cans to over fill slightly.
I've filled many of these without incident, but but before I started weighing I know I would occasionally overfill. On one occasion I noticed(at a later date) one tank I filled did bulge slightly(on the bottom) and I presume it was overfilled. Hence(1) I don't feel the reief valves on these tanks are all that reliable and (2)neither a bulging tank or an uncontrolled release of propane if the PRV does work can be a good thing. Just like Howie, I bought a scale and I weigh every tank. I sometimes pull on the scrhader valve(PRV) to speed up filling, you can fill them in about two minutes or less this way. I'd be interested if others feel that it is safe to do them that way. Also I always test with soapy water to check the valves for leakage; if it does usually popping it once or twice will reseal it.
It's a good routine to always wear a thick long sleeved top, lined /insulated gloves, and safety goggles or a face shield when doing this! If the large tank has a faulty shut off valve or it's mistakenly open while threading in the adapter, or if liquid propane happens to eject from the small tank during purging, it can instantly cause deep and severe thermal burns (frostbite) to exposed tissue such as your skin or eyes! Don't ruin a good thing by going blind or requiring a skin graft folks!
Woa like any of that has ever happened? And don’t forget to put your coat on when it rains and don’t run with scissors and ride on the right hand side of the road and quit jacking off or you’ll go blind.sheesh old mother hen
You have to hold it on your skin for an extended period of time to get a bad burn. Back in the 1970's we used bleeder valves on the big tanks and they would spray pure liquid when they got full. If you weren't paying attention, things could get sketchy really fast. I may or may not have seen someone kick a low spot in the dirt driveway and pool a little LP in it to cool his soda cans on a hot day too. The boiling point of LP is -43.6° which IS cold but it isn't like liquid co2 at -109.2°. Honestly, I probably shouldn't have survived the 1970's. :D

Great video and explaination. I tried this a few different ways. You way is by far the most efficient. Right down to how many times to depress the valve between fillings. 6x is the trick. You feel the tank start to get a bit cold. Screw it on and she fills up. The scale works great too. Piece of mind to know you put in just the right amount. 2 Thumbs up! Thanks bro!
Thank you for this video! I like not having to mess with the shrader valve. The shrader valves on the only 2 tanks I tried to refill that way wouldn’t seal back up, so thank you for this

Just checked at my local Canadian Tire they where $8.97 a bottle! I remember when I was young you could get 3 bottles for $6. I’ll be filling mine up going forward!
I place my empty small bottles in a freezer for about 45 minutes before I refill them. They fill quicker. But you know what, I'll try then at room temp and see if it makes a difference. Great channel. Subbed.
I didn’t purge air, I froze the bottles before filling but I’m sure they didn’t get full because I could tell they were lighter than a new one! Thank you for the info, I’m subscribed!
WARNING! REMEMBER IT'S UPSIDE DOWN, YOU HAVE TO GO AGAINST INTUITION WHEN CLOSING IT UP! I messed up and OPENED it all the way after refilling, and propane came shootin' out fast. Thanks for Tractor Supply tip, I had exchanged at WMart for $15 for 15lbs, but it's prolly a good $5 cheaper at T.S. Every bit counts! I also put small tanks in the deep freeze for 15 min, and big tank in the sun, that seemed to help a little, otherwise it filled pretty slowly for me.
@@askcme1 It's legal to refill them for personal use. However, the penalties you cite are for transporting them on a public highway per DOT regulations.

I watch this once a year for a refresher. Seems to be the simplest method. Works good, saves big bucks, easy on the enviroment.
Refilled my first set tonight. Worked like a charm.
Thanks for the accurate info, is most informative for the DIY'er
BTW, scientifically, you are not purging air - it is propane and allows some of the liquid to boil off, and that liquid to vapor change of state absorbs heat, just like the refrigerant in your AC.
@@yvespetit never rely on that Schrader valve
So knowledgeable. Love it.
This comment should be pinned to the top. Good info that everyone should know.
THANK YOU for that information! Always better to understand WHY things are done as opposed to simply doing them by rote.
The best advice he gave! I tried different methods and bled them all. I filled up 500 grains right away after putting the empty can in the freezer for 5 minutes. It refilled in 30 seconds without any preparation. THE SECOND LAW of thermodynamics works better than a lot of comments!
The whole point of the video is you do not need to put in a freezer, just bleed them a few times
I mean, if you're a lazy bum.
Ohhh ok... sorry you have ADHD and a wife. Lol
I have been filling for many years for my torches , and just screw it on wait 2 minutes before taking off , no venting, no weighing , no problems.
But I don’t need to have max fill. Your procedure is thorough, well done!
I guarantee
If you weigh your bottles depending on what the ambient temperature is, you would probably be averaging about twenty percent. That wouldn't even work for most people.
The best part of doing this (to me anyways) is not the saving cash part, it's the disposal of the little 1 lb bottles, they add up over a summer & it keeps em outa the landfill !
Thanks for the video.
I do agree with that Don
I have the same heater. The Mr. Heater Portable Buddy and I just connect a hose to the big tank and connect it to the heater. I use a second big tank and connect it to my stove. when they empty I get them refilled. No mess with all those little bottles and no spending all that time refilling them.
But they make a great boom when thrown in the fire.
@@theresa_lili Try just a pop or a beer (hate to waste) that, they do a number in a fire!
The empties make good targets.
I used to have a bulk tank with adapters and hoses. Now I need that at home and only carry one or two little tanks. It saves a lot of space.
@@ToddMeadows that's some good advice thanks for that
I’ve got one of those trees, they’re good for cooking 🍳 at night with a burner and grill with a light 💡 on top, great solution.
16 oz is 80%,. That's the way they make any propane container/bottle. There is nothing to be scared about😉

That pressure you're bleeding out isn't air! It's propane gas. (You want that stuff)
@@precision_Air Hey Bryan, when you say (You want that stuff) , I know it's vaporized liquid gas we bleed out but I know of no way to save it. When the pressure in both tanks get equal, liquid will now flow. I may have misunderstood what you meant.

I found that instead of freezing the tanks, put your first fill in the small bottle, unhook it, and shake it back and forth a few times. That will make the bottle extremely cold just like it was right out of the freezer! I've been using that method and it works really well. Easier than freezing your bottles in freezer. ✌️

No thanks.

Thanks for the vid, haven't been purging and wondering why my tanks were only filling about 3/4 of the way. lol. Thank you!

Excellent - the other guys with a vid didn't show the purge part and that is everything. Makes total sense - you have to ease the gaseous gas to lower the pressure in the canister before anything more will come into it. Thanks for the great share.

Do you keep the tank inside?

I have a hose also. But sometimes I'd rather not have the big tanks along.
Problem with that is the pressure mixed with the rubber hose produces an oil in the hose which will ruin the regulator on your heater

Im glad it was helpful... thanks for the support!!
Tanks for the tutorial, I'll be saving me even more hard earned. Seriously though thanks for this info.
I'm going to do this! Pull on the prv.
My concern is like any prv on any machine is the risk it doesn't reseal.
Don't ruin a good thing by going blind or requiring a skin graft folks!
thanks for the heads up.

@Tributary House Ltd. wouldn't surprise me. I deleted my Facebook because I moved to Florida and it was recommending new co-workers after only a day or 2 there. Never even updated FB to show I moved or got a new job.
Not sure about TV's but all phones record a few seconds every few seconds..there's a setting you have to change to stop that don't laugh but try searching your settings 1st then Google it & you'll see how many people found it in there settings & closed it I mean I'd be watching a movie on TV then mention a certain actor then Google it from phone & before I'd type the 1st word that actor would pop up,even my phone GPS I've watched myself walk from the back of my house in the den then walk twords the front door & the dot actually moved with me & it's only 60 feet
Did you visit any store or camping supplies website to check the prices on those canisters? UA-cam is owned by google & their software can recommend videos based on what you watched.
Thanks bro!
I'm glad it was helpful!😁
i like how simple you keep things. Not a lot of wasted chat. thanks
By far the best video I've seen on this.
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I like not having to mess with the shrader valve. The shrader valves on the only 2 tanks I tried to refill that way wouldn’t seal back up, so thank you for this
Great! I have been doing them the hard way and in the freezer. This saves a lot of time & money.
Glad I could help, thank you!!
I’ve had problems with the little valve leaking when I purged it, I would just throw those tanks away, it never dawned on me to leave it alone and just suppress the main. Thanks for the tip great video
I bought one of these adapters during covid to avoid going to the store. They work fantastic. It’s like having unlimited propane canisters now.
This is legit, Coleman can miss me with that 7$ a bottle
Isn't that crazy?
Just checked at my local Canadian Tire they where $8.97 a bottle! I remember when I was young you could get 3 bottles for $6. I’ll be filling mine up going forward!
In Sweden those bottles are $22 :(
I place my empty small bottles in a freezer for about 45 minutes before I refill them. They fill quicker. But you know what, I'll try then at room temp and see if it makes a difference. Great channel. Subbed.
Thank you and welcome!!
Oh man!! Probably I have spent like $100 buying those little tanks at Walmart this summer. They are 2 for $9.99. Great vid man!!
Thanks for your tips.
I didn’t purge air, I froze the bottles before filling but I’m sure they didn’t get full because I could tell they were lighter than a new one! Thank you for the info, I’m subscribed!
I had the same experience
If I remember correctly isn't there a NO REFILL disclosure on these propane cylinder. Also a fine $500,000 & jail time if caught refilling these?
@@askcme1 It's legal to refill them for personal use. However, the penalties you cite are for transporting them on a public highway per DOT regulations.
Great method, and it is safe. It inspires confidence that it will be safe as you are adding the proper amount of fuel to each one and not overfilling.
I bought the adapter today and watched your video, before I attempted it. Thank you for the good instructions
Dude! We owe you a beer! Thanks!
Glad I can help, thanks for your support my friend!
The 4.25 gallon tank costs me about $12 to fill, give or take. There is about 18 pounds of propane in that bottle. 18 bottles would cost me about $72. You just saved someone $60 each round. That's huge, especially going through a couple per day.
Great video! I used your technique right after I watched this and it worked perfect. Filling by weight is definitely the safest and most accurate
Awesome, thank you for the nice comment!
This was very helpful. I refilled 8 or 10 yesterday, but did not bleed them, so I could bleed them and get another 5 ounces on each. Thank you!
