    I'm so happy for you. And even more happy that my family gets to benefit from your scrummy goodies! I am half Vietnamese and as a child, enjoyed these wonderful dishes from my mum. As an adult whose mother is very far away, I appreciate these videos and tutorials which have helped immensely with brushing up my kitchen skills! I cannot wait to see more videos from you as I delve into my own Vietnamese kitchen! Thank you! X

      it's not really english accent. Her accent is very british (and yes they speak egnlish) but I'm not quite sure. Not a guy who knows lots of accents so that's my cloest assumption

    I found it's so cool when an Asian speak in British accent ;~; please upload more videos ! I'm sure lots of people will like it. But I think you should use more " authentic ingredients" in the videos, then saying that people can substitute it with alternative ingredients; like for this dish, having a mung bean sprout will make the dish tastes a lot better !

    • @chef_thuy_pham
      @chef_thuy_pham  8 років тому +1

      I wanted to use something that is easy to get hold of wherever they live +trang nguyen. The filling inside the pancake is to add a little crunch and sweetness so I really like the flavour that carrots add to it. Mung bean sprouts are lovely too though yes :)

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 8 років тому +2

      +trang nguyen I agree about using authentic ingredients and then giving people alternatives or options. Or if you're going to use something not traditional, tell people it's not traditional, but tell them what is. I think teaching others about the traditional cuisine is important. Just my two cents. :)

  • @doodahgurlie
    @doodahgurlie 8 років тому +1

    BTW, Thuy, have you tried wrapping the whole thing in rice paper? I found it's much easier to eat that way and the lettuce and herbs don't fall out when I'm trying to eat it. Makes for a more pleasant eating experience for me. :) I love how you stuffed so much in your mouth at the end and then tried to hide from the camera. So cute!

      It is very simple to make KakeeSong! The batter mix could be made the day before then left over night, so on the day you just have to do a bit of slicing for the filling. A great family meal dish, or as a snack with some friends. Just a warning though, I've always eaten more than I intend to with this. Waddling away from the table is normal! Totally worth it! The recipe is above, so do let me know if you have any questions at all ok! I'd love to know how it goes. All the best! :)

    My close friend who is American learned how to make this dish but I shared her my family secret that u guys might want to try...
    1) make the batter by adding in beer and add tons of green onion. Let rest for 30 minutes.
    2. Prior towards cooking, please use pork and shrimp but let it marinate in a mixture of garlic, shallots, salt, pepper, and fish sauce. Cook it through.
    3. When making it, cook with shrimp, pork belly, and yellow onion slices.
    4. Add in bean sprouts and mini enoki mushroom.
    5. It taste even better when u use lettuce, green onions, cucumber, and cilantro wrapped in rice paper with the banh Xeo and dip in the sauce
    6. The sauce should be made from sugar, lime, apple juice, fish sauce and minced garlic and red Chile pepper
    7. It makes so much that you’ll have left overs. It tastes better when u bake them rather than reheat through microwave

    Hi Thuy. I think you are really amazing. Can you please make a cookbook. Your pho recipe has me hooked. You should see Uyen Luu who also has amazing recipes like the Saigon summer rolls and fish recipes. Hope to hear from you !

    Why are you putting cold water and boiling water is that added to the mixture also ? Thank you

      First add boiling water, it's to create stickiness from rice flour n corn starch. Then make it liquidy by adding more normal water. Using normal water because if u add all water as in boiling water, batter will be half cooked by then it wont taste good also doesn't come out nicely from pan. I'm Indian and we use rice powder in cooking too. I don't know the receipe she did here, my first time watching. but knowing how rice powder works, it must be the logical reason. Hope u understand.

    Hi there, what would you recommend for a vegetarian option? Something that won’t make it soggy? Thanks
