I’m not saying this because I’m Vietnamese but after 20 years living in California trying so many different types of food from 4-5 stars restaurants, I have to say Vietnamese food is still the best 😌
I think you are right. I'm not Vietnamese or Asian, but I think my absolute favorite cuisine is Vietnamese. It's fresh, light, flavorful, and textural satisfying. In addition, the food is so diverse with a wide variety of flavors.

Nói chung bánh xèo, bánh khọt miền Nam giờ hầu hết là bị ‘biến tướng’, chiên ngập dầu chứ không còn là một miếng mỡ heo chà chà trên chảo nóng cho dính một lớp mỡ mỏng rồi đổ bột lên như xưa. Có nơi bánh đang chiên thì lại múc một vá dầu rưới thêm lên trên. Cái bánh xèo, bánh khọt mang ra chỉ cần ngắt một miếng nhỏ bóp lại là dầu nhỏ ra như trời mưa dột. Có nơi còn dùng dầu ‘tái chế’, đục nhờ nhờ chứ không được trong như dầu mới, quan sát kỹ sẽ thấy. Lâu lâu thèm đi ăn một lần thì chắc không sao, ăn nhiều thì…bệnh tòng khẩu nhập, ‘phì’ tòng khẩu nhập🤪🤪🤪

It's probably because most foreigners living in Vietnam live in Hà Nội. Among UA-camrs, I only know of Max and Phúc Mập that live in the south.
@@aznmochibunny what I like about him is the way he responds politely to the elder "da", it's a rightful manner of the Southern. I don't think Phuc Map has the Southern accent, even though he's living in Saigon.

@@aznmochibunny There’s a lot of foreigners in Ho Chi Minh City District 1 but people normally come for work and travel so not many foreigners speak Vietnamese but now there are a lot.
Nhớ lại ngày còn nhỏ ,nhất là mùa mưa là ông nội tôi đem vài lon gạo xay cái cối đá ,thêm một con gà thái ra lấy thịt nạt tô cho thấm đổ vào bột thêm ít bột nghệ cho có màu ,rơm ngoài cây rút vào đun cho ấm và cũng vừa làm bánh xèo ,có giá bỏ lên khi đang đổ bánh ,nó rất giòn ,thêm rổ rau sống có răm huốn xà lách huốn quế cải non và cả giá đổ nữa ,nước mắm nguyên chất truyền thống ,ôi ngon tuyệt vời ,sau này tôi cũng có làm bánh xèo ,nhưng khi làm nhà cái cối xây đá thất lạc vậy là không còn làm nữa ,nhớ bánh xèo truyền thống vô cùng

You're right Max! To compare it to Korean bbq is to do a disservice to the way Vietnamese food has been eaten like this since forever. We wrap many more foods in rice ppaper and lettuce than bbq.
Pretty sure the Koreans got their idea from the Viets...since wrapping our foods in greens and herbs is a big part of our eating culture. From fried spring rolls to banh tom, to banh xeo, to eating the humble meals at home.
Seeing these vids make me wanna go back to Saigon😩😩 I miss and looove Vietnamese food!

Hey Max, I can grow all of the 6 veggies in Brisbane, Australia as the climate here can be similar to Saigon in Summer. My Mum used to make bánh khọt about 10 years ago, and she would chop the prawns into small pieces as I think it's the the Can Tho style which was where we grew up . I have forgotten about this dish until your video jotted my memory of it, thank you!😄. I'm gonna try and make this dish and see if it turns out like my Mum's. At least I have all the herbs to accompany this dish. Love watching your videos and hear you speak Vietnamese - keep it up!

Agreed, the abundance of fresh luscious salad you get with these dishes can't be replicated out of vietnam. you can eat banh xeo and banh khot out of vietnam just to kind of satisfy your taste buds but that fresh bite you get in combination with the salads from vietnam makes the dish x100 better.

Love the no shirt...then shirted uncle. He realized he had to put a shirt on since he's gonna be on youtube. LOL! I agree with a couple others below that the Koreans likely got their idea of wrapping their BBQ in veggies from the Viets...I question if they even really eat fresh veggies like that prior. LOL! Whereas in Viet food culture, pretty much everything can be wrapped or eaten with tons of veggies/herbs...it's entrenched in our culture...no other does fresh veggies/herbs like Viets do.
