Also, the clerk slipped it in the jury packet without review by both the prosecution and the defense. If it were the STANDARD form I would say it was possibly an oversight, but it was NOT standard with ambiguous verbiage.

I was on a jury in Paterson, NJ many years ago. The defendant stole a car, he was in the car when the police tried to pull him over. He tried to outrun the cops, hit a curb and popped 2 tires, he proceeded to drive down a highway on his rims, ultimately crashing and getting apprehended. He testified that he borrowed the car and didn’t know it was stolen, eventhough he was caught in possession of it a half hour after it was stolen. I thought it was pretty obvious he was lying and I thought it wouldn’t take long to deliberate. Wrong, one person wasn’t sure he was guilty, it took many hours before we were able to convince them to change their mind.

After seeing no serious injuries/bruising/broken bones on his arms, torso & legs, combined w/testimony by (2) ME’s and (2) Reconstruction/Bio-Mechanic’s, that cinched it for me. Do I believe there is other shady stuff going on, or truly a 3rd party culprit, yes…However, take all that out, put it aside and you still cannot ignore the medical, science and physics, in this case.

I don’t see how you could convict on count 2, even the lesser includes. The CW did not prove she hit him; like, not even a little. They proved tail light pieces were at the scene, not that they fell off her car there. They proved at some point Karen and John were there, and then Karen left. But they never proved she hit him, much less killed him. I mean, CMV if you want but what’s the evidence? No bruises. Minor injuries except for his head. Barely any additional car damage. And the shoddiest investigation and broken chain of evidence custody I literally have ever seen. So, all there really is is reasonable doubt. Very reasonable, and very prevalent.

The two issues i have with this is...
1, the arm is not bruised.. if that arm had been struck by full force of a Lexus truck there WOULD be bruising without a doubt.. the arm is one of the easiest body parts to bruise as [ep[;e jvae seem for themselves for sure.. if you catch your arm on something

2, The time line bugs me.. the state claims this happened at 12.45... but she was back at Johns house for 12.36 (evidence of this) plus you have to allow for travel time in a snow storm and shes drunk lets say just for this example its 20 minutes from Alberts to JOK house.. so she must of left Alberts no later than 12.16 dropping him off
Thats nearly half an hour BEFORE the alleged event happened that she had left the scene.. so huge reasonable doubt
so anybody arriving or going with a truck could of hit him or the dog attack etc

Deleted by the detectives because it showed her taillight in tact when she came home at 12:35. They had access to John’s phone and full access to his ring camera system from his phone

If I was a juror looking at the charges on the verdict form, I’d vote “Not Guilty”. The charges are “basically” did Read hit O’Keefe with her SUV, whether on purpose or not. After seeing no serious injuries/bruising/broken bones on his arms, torso & legs, combined w/testimony by (2) ME’s and (2) Reconstruction/Bio-Mechanic’s, that cinched it for me. Do I believe there is other shady stuff going on, or truly a 3rd party culprit, yes…However, take all that out, put it aside and you still cannot ignore the medical, science and physics, in this case.

I don’t see how you could convict on count 2, even the lesser includes. The CW did not prove she hit him; like, not even a little. They proved tail light pieces were at the scene, not that they fell off her car there. They proved at some point Karen and John were there, and then Karen left. But they never proved she hit him, much less killed him.
I mean, CMV if you want but what’s the evidence? No bruises. Minor injuries except for his head. Barely any additional car damage. And the shoddiest investigation and broken chain of evidence custody I literally have ever seen. So, all there really is is reasonable doubt. Very reasonable, and very prevalent.
It was a bit concerning that the jury has taken this long to come back with what I expect to be "not guilty" but I'm glad I came to this video to explain it. I feel better now. Thank you!
