Loneliness is Most uncomfortable when you feel uncomfortable with yourself. And in Videogames you're mostly a cooler version of yourself that you like more
Feeling comfortable or content with solitude is what we should all aspire to. I sometimes call it "feeling the air". The hum of the empty space around me, the shuffling of my movement as I get comfortable in my chair, wrapped up on blankets and sitting on pillows in my little makeshift nest. It's an situation that I just cannot find anywhere else in life; one where I can just function silently. Maybe sometimes I think or feel. But mostly I observe and immerse into whatever is going on in the game I'm playing. This type of solitude is the only peace that I can find for myself.

Been playing the original dark souls for the first time, this game really is like life in a way. How you go about alone, only to see the ghost of an online player and you're like, oh im not alone, ok. Recently I was really frustrated on one of the endgame zones, and went to kindle the bonefire, suddenly there was a summoning sign and I was like oh ok I can summon an npc cool, only to find out it was an online player offering me help, which I didnt know was possible. Everytime I died I used humanity again to summon him, and he would drop me humanity back, this went on for more then an hour, more then an hour of true comfort in a game like dark souls feels so deep, until eventually we beat the far away boss and he dissappeared, never to be seen again. This one online player just offering his help gave me so much hope to keep going, even in such a harsh world.
Towards the end of the Fallen Order section, I started to realize how I let my past be a burden and that prevents me from seeing the people who do try to be there for me, further exacerbating my loneliness. I began to cry, then I got hit with "MINECRAFT...." and that made me laugh. I think I'm going to hear that every time I start to cry. Phenomenal video.

This is a fantastic video. I think Hollow Knight might be one of my favorite lonely games. Right behind that would probably be Halo 3 ODST. There's just something about exploring a place that you know you're not supposed to be And it's very obvious that nothing else who wants you there. I'll definitely be watching out for more of your stuff In the future
This video was amazing. My favorite content niche is long form videos of people talking about games and other things like Jacob Geller. The whole time you were talking about empty worlds and talking about what someplace is now vs what it was when everyone was still here I couldn’t help but think of Portal 2. The entire game is Aperture Science being rebuilt and it’s all overgrown and empty but the ai still talk and control the place like it’s any other day. And especially when you get down to the old sites with Cave Johnson. I know it’s a comedy but that makes it very unique when you go through this long forgotten world. A masterpiece is gaming.

This is such an amazing video. You said everything I could have possibly hoped for. Thank you so much for making this, I will definitely be watching this again in a while.
I don't comment on many videos, but you actually made a masterpiece. Your storytelling made me feel the loniliness of some of these games, especially reminding me of my moments with Quirrel.
I have never experienced loneliness in life. That's why I watch videos about loneliness, so I can understand what it is that others feel. I first discovered how big an issue loneliness was when I first went to AA, it's a massive issue. My mother said to me when I was a child, "Michael you are a so lucky that you like yourself and enjoy your own company." I didn't think much of it at the time, but later in life I realized that so many people are in pain from feeling lonely. I have spent nearly all my life alone, living alone, working alone just being alone. It's so good, I feel quietude and solitude are exquisitely beautiful. Now having said the above, I need to socialize every now and again, I generally need to talk to someone for about ten minutes a week and that does me. As a human being I need to socialize so I don't feel isolation. Isolation is not loneliness it's an emotional response to not having any meaningful contact with an other over an extended period of time, like a fortnight. Anyway, my life is good, and I have no need for relationships at all, no wife, no girlfriends, just ten minutes a week having meaningful contact with an NPC does me. :)
I still remember playing Dark Souls 1 for the first time. There was this lonely man sitting by the bonfire, and it felt like the world was against me, especially in the Ash Lake area. The overwhelming odds, combined with the vast emptiness, made me feel a kind of loneliness that I can hardly explain, but it was also awe-inspiring in a strange way. Also exploring alone in the wilderness of Skyrim or Nordic ruins adds to that sense of solitude and wonder. Whether it’s wandering through the snowy mountains or dense forests, there’s something peaceful yet haunting about being alone in such a vast, open world. It feels similar to those lonely moments in Dark Souls, but with a different kind of beauty.
Amazing video , even though i avoided some parts of it due to fear of spoilers , the video still hit hard and i think that is a truly amazing feat . You seem an amazing guy to be friends with. Also some other games that i think nail the mark on conveing that feeling of loneliness are Undertales snowdin area ( atleast before the town) , some parts of Omori , and of course the entirety of Celeste .
This is one of the best videos i have ever wached on yt I literally had chills for the whole video How in the world can someone be this underated Please keep it up🙏
I cant really put into words the feelings this video provoked in me again, memories of late nights after playing destiny with friends. Id always be the last to get off to do some solo things and in those last few minutes just sitting in orbit, looking down at a distant planet with the slow tune of a piano in the background. Alone but comfortable.
Dark souls 2 was my first souls game, and it's very dear to me. Whenever i hear majula's theme, something heavy sinks in my heart, i can see myself 10 years ago, playing in my room late at night. Thanks for the bittersweet video, keep up the good work
A fracture of loneliness is always felt when you finish a game that you spent weeks playing. A natural feeling for parting away with something that became a part of you I could arguably say this effect is more present in Souls games. Once you are done with the bosses, you are left in this empty dark world...alone.
I've never felt more connected with a video. Hollow Knight, Zelda (particularly Majoras Mask) Fallen Order, and Minecraft have all been games that have become a part of me. Seeing you discuss these games and the themes of loneliness really resonated with me. Thank you for making this video essay.
You sir has an amazing talent as a narrator. The choice of the correct words is top notch. You deserve to be in the top of the video game's community as a content creator.
One of my favourite games of all time is Spiritfarer. It’s such a beautiful game and I was hit with a sadness I did not expect when nearing the end. The theme switches to one of excitement and intrigue to a somber, impending sadness, while still keeping the beautiful and light themes. This game is so special to me
Amazing vid, subbed immediately after watching =з Speaking about exploration of gmod maps, there are youtubers who do just that, explore - The Librarian is one of the more popular examples, commenting on every little weird thing or feeling he may find himself noticing, sometimes trying to come up with theories about what could've happened, and sometimes silently strolling. He may not be a hardcore gamer, but he definitely has a soul of a poet and a storyteller and that's enough to capture the audience. I am happy that games allow that to be revealed.
This video is an absolute masterpiece. Honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the view count. I then went on a rabbit hole down your channel and decided you deserve more subscribers lol
I remember playing SM 64 at home by myself as a kid, I quite enjoyed struggling through the early levels, but at some point, I suddenly felt so alone in that game, it was probably my first time being immersed in a game. Even with the cheerful music and the npcs, I felt eerily alone and that made me stop playing after the realisation. I also played minecraft when it was in its early stages, I wasn't really interested by herobrine, but man, those cave noises creeped me out so much! I would often get too scared to continue playing and it gave me nightmares since it's only sound and I could imagine anything from it. Hey great video again man ! You could say I was immersed in it. Looking forward to the next one!
I dont need a game to make me feel that way, but when a game makes me feel that way, its somehow comfortable...

this is a very high quality video. Much more than I expected
This is one of the best videos i watched this year there is no way it has only 90k views keep up the work i love the video
Your story telling skills is outrageous, by far the best I've seen on this app.
wow. One of the best videos ever, and i spent years and years on youtube ahahah
congrats Ember...wish u the best on this journey
Amazing video , even though i avoided some parts of it due to fear of spoilers , the video still hit hard and i think that is a truly amazing feat . You seem an amazing guy to be friends with. Also some other games that i think nail the mark on conveing that feeling of loneliness are Undertales snowdin area ( atleast before the town) , some parts of Omori , and of course the entirety of Celeste .
No way this channel doesn’t blow up. Fantastic analysis and really enjoyable to watch. Just subbed and can’t wait to see what else you do!
extremely underrated, this video is fire
This actually might be the best video on youtube.
very nice vid buddy, that was great 45min to calm, goodnight :)
This Video gives me strong „Curious Archive“ (another yt Channel) vibes and i‘m all for it. Very good. Just gained another follower
@@primetime9137 thank you! I actually am a big fan of his channel so that means a lot :)

I literally had chills for the whole video
How in the world can someone be this underated
Please keep it up🙏
Damn this was a good video. Keep it up man! The music and instrumentals were truly on point.
This video just gave me a new perspective about gaming and its beauty!! A new way to enjoy these games.
What a great video. You will blow up soon bro
Bro, I'm having constant chills watching this video. Too beautiful.
Zelda hit me like nothing else ever had
Keeping a game alive is still using the umbrella once you're in the house. Those games gave us too much to not let them go. Peace
You earned a subscribe for making me want to cry
Haha thank you!
A natural feeling for parting away with something that became a part of you
I could arguably say this effect is more present in Souls games.
Didn’t realize you were the atmosphere video guy as well. That video is one of the best I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
Great video. Made me rethink my whole gaming experience 👍🏼
This game is so special to me
Amazing vid, subbed immediately after watching =з
Speaking about exploration of gmod maps, there are youtubers who do just that, explore - The Librarian is one of the more popular examples, commenting on every little weird thing or feeling he may find himself noticing, sometimes trying to come up with theories about what could've happened, and sometimes silently strolling.
He may not be a hardcore gamer, but he definitely has a soul of a poet and a storyteller and that's enough to capture the audience.
I am happy that games allow that to be revealed.
My god you are so underrated, i genuinely wish the youtube algorithm gets people to you like it did to me and you get big
This was an amazing video, really enjoyed it :)
This video is an absolute masterpiece. Honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the view count. I then went on a rabbit hole down your channel and decided you deserve more subscribers lol
@@thomashill2958 thanks a ton that means a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed:)
16:42 “You are the reason this world will die” cuts so deep
That was an amazing video and it didn't feel like a waste of time. It was enlightening and I mean it. Keep up the good work 👏
I remember playing SM 64 at home by myself as a kid, I quite enjoyed struggling through the early levels, but at some point, I suddenly felt so alone in that game, it was probably my first time being immersed in a game.
Thank you I appreciate you checking the video out!
Truly excellent.
