Ironically, monster hunter goes pretty starkly against a lot of monster traditions. They are not always scary and pretty cute on the rare occasion like dodogama. They are very well explained and their behaviour is extremely well documented. Most of all, they are not truly evil, just creatures who function like the animals of our own world.
@@PinkFluffyAlex While Monster Hunter has most of its monsters act like normal animals with their own behaviors and life cycles you could see in the real world, it still understands that monsters are meant to be frightening, which is why the elder dragons, and more specifically, black dragons exist in that universe.
@@jackdolan945i love that elder dragons are said to have human to even beyond human intelligence, and there all these strange almost beyond reason creatures that haunt the world with there power.
An interesting point that this video raised to me, “games allow players to become monsters in many genres.” There’s so much to unpack there and allows for much more reading of multiple gaming narratives. Fantastic video.
my scariest experience with a boss is when i was running around in bloodborne and got to the bridge, and then i turned around to go back only to see a boss bar appear and the loudest screaming ever, 10/10 game would play again
I was absolutely ASTONISHED by the level of quality and for this to only have 3.5k views, this video is gonna get at least a few hundred thousand, if it reaches a million please tell me and we’ll throw a party lmao
Wow man, what an incredible video. The way you are able to switch from game to game and stay on track is amazing. One of my favorite channels right now.
Nothing was as terrifying as the cynosure robot in cyberpunk’s DLC. You spent 75 hours feeling like the god of that universe, and it all goes out the window. You actually have to hide and shit your pants for the first time in the game.
Got to love another video from one of my favourite creatures and about one of my favourite games (New game +21 Ludwig be getting closer and closer to a no hit)
dude I have a completely new perspective on monsters as a concept now. that was amazing. thank you for making this. down with the slop. rise brothers of video essay
The most terrifying boss fight I can recall was the bongo bongo fight in Ocarina of time. I played that game when I was younger, and I remember how scared I was all throughout the dungeon. All that buildup for a boss that I couldn't even see ? Scary AF ! One of the more memorable moments of oot being scary is when you leave the temple of time after picking up the master sword, I remember being absolutely stoked to finally play as adult link, only to enter the plaza... I simply couldn't play anymore, I had to ask my big brother to get away from there for me. Good times... As an adult now, the feeling of horror became different for me, I don't really get scared playing video games anymore. I can't see a hard boss being a scary challenge, I see them as a hard challenge to conquer and i'm not scared to try and beat it over and over again. Another banger of a video, keep it up man!
I found your channel through being recommended your "Loneliness in Games" video, and since I've been on a streak of watching those types of video essays recently, I decided to start that. From there I've gone through all four of your videos so far and can say your content is now among my favorite. You perfectly encapsulate my feelings on these topics and make me look back on some of my fondest memories in games. Please keep up the good work, I've subscribed so I never miss another incredible upload from you
I love this, but I do want to point out that we DON’T know that Father Gascoin killed his wife. Her corpse is on the roof of another building, and we see him hacking into a random corpse. If he killed hee, why is he then butchering this random corpse, and why is her body on a roof? Perhaps the body he’s carving into is the person who killed his wife, and because of that be descended into beasthood. I do understand that it fits with your story/video, but I feel like the uncertainty might fit in better? It’s hard to say. But what I wanted to explain is that Bloodborne, like most all SoulsBorne games, has a lot of purposeful holes. This is but one example, and I wanted to just get this off my chest. Fear the Old Blood.
Agreed, I do appreciate the fact that its uncertain and maybe I should've included that in the video, but to me it's a lot more tragic if he was the one to kill her. I'm glad you enjoyed :)
The daughter does say the mom forgot to bring the music box which helps him “remember,” heavy implication he didn’t recognize her and took her for a beast. However, I so appreciate the ambiguity that leaves people discussing it (almost) a decade later. Best game. Best lore.
i like gameplay acknowledging your preference to be a monster, like how undertale removes most of the puzzles and npcs, not just because they're fleeing for their lives, but also the game acknowledges that you're only here for the combat, so it removes everything but combat

I think the scariest experience I ever had with a boss was fighting my first drake in dragon’s dogma 2 and having my favorite companion get thrown right on the edge of the shoreline. The dragon continued to chase after them so I had to jump on it and wail on its back until it finally changed agro.
