      I'm gonna buy Daniel's book.
But if you're mad at celebrities talking politics because people who travel the world more than anyone else without a political agenda and gain possibly the biggest world scope should not talk politics because of shoe related hypocrisy or some nonsense then you're picking a reason to be upset out of nothing. Everyone with a voice in the world has a more biased angle on major events than actors. Now half of them are idiots so non biased doesn't mean smart, but who gets to junkit in 100 countries in their lives and travel with money on their free time more than they do and like rich kids who obviously don't count because you can't learn about local culture and issues from a yacht.
When I hear Frances McDormand or someone like her talking on stage all I can think is, who has a bigger sample size of world view than she does without spending 75% of their career trying to get money from donors by any means necessary. Almost no one. Why would that be an issue? If you wanna stay under a rock to everything political then that's on you, but if you ever claim to have an understanding of a world view on any major issue and these people should just stay in their lane, you're an idiot.

His show in Moscow was one of the best memories of my life! He went on for about an hour extra talking about his experience in Russia and our lack of sex ed, huge thanks to him! We felt special for one night:) And at least half of the people didn't need the headphones btw.... Daniel's Team, pls bring him here again!

wow, Daniel is absolutely brilliant! I know he called himself dumb, but he actually is incredibly intelligent; and not simply in how he sees the world, but in his emotional intelligence as well! What an inspiring gem to have in the world of comedy!

I luv how Daniel informs himself and is socially aware. Despite being a white heterosexual male, he knows the line and draws it. Being "zero politics" in even comedy is a privilege, and that's just a choice if you really don't want that. It just really makes you a better to watch person in my eyes if you inject the good small bits of politics in comedy.

Found Daniel’s specials on Netflix, loved them instantly. Went to see him perform in Moscow in November 2019, the show was awesome! 3000 people like he said (I think he also said in another interview that this was largest audience so far!)
Hopefully when all of this pandemic stuff is finally over, he’ll come back again:)
And hopefully other western comedians see that it’s not a death sentence to perform in Russia :D

It's only a privilege if you personally deem it as such. Politics is a detriment to anyone's mental health and if anything it's more a privilege to BE INTO politics. The amount of time one has to invest just into keeping up to date on politics via the news/social media, and then advocating on behalf of your personal politics via protest or raising awareness campaigns is immense. And what do you have to show for it at the end of the day unless you're an ACTUAL politician? Stress, heightened anxiety, feeling like you're being personally attacked whenever someone disagrees with you? The answer to that question is an early grave reading "at least I died virtuously" on the tombstone.

@@Shrieqer This is so true. I was soooooo much happier just 8 months ago when I was blissfully unaware of certain things. Had a LOT more time for hobbies and self improvement too.
But it now feels... irresponsible... to stick my head in the sand. And honestly, so many people are not content these days to live and let live. Politics has infected just about every facet of life. It’s almost inescapable. One has to intentionally seek out political free zones. And referring to conservatives, if you don’t have a firm grasp on the foundations for your beliefs, they will be shaken and possibly crumble bc the left makes some compelling (but incomplete) arguments.
Also, I do believe one person can make a difference. I haven’t quite found the best way for me to contribute, but I’m looking. I keep coming back to the word Unity. If ideological warfare’s goal is to divide and weaken/conquer, then it stands to reason the formula for strengthening and standing is unity. How to encourage that...🤔
      Anyway. Great comment! 👍🙂

    • @Shrieqer
      @Shrieqer 3 роки тому

@@Teal_Seal thanks mate! I admire your optimism on wanting to make a difference in a way that plays to your strengths. Just bear in mind that the tone of my original comment is coming from a mindset of being burnt out. I'm in the political center.
While people on social media purged their friends lists of anyone who opposed their political ideologies, I kept 'em all. It took a long time before I ever made any real friends while growing up. I refused to let them go because I value people over politics.
One of my strengths is an inherent knowledge of the emotional spectrum and knowing what's bullshit. So I didn't want my friends to be manipulated by politically biased news stories being shared that purposefully omitted information. Since I was in the minority of their echo chambers those efforts were perceived as an attack.
So many arguments. So many insults. Then their specifically tailored friends gang up on you. Your will to help fades. You feel like the crazy homeless man on the streets brandishing a sign stating " THE END IS NIGH".
The point is that you should choose your battles wisely. Going down too many rabbit holes will tear you apart. Unity is a beautiful belief. Just be prepared for what comes with making that sacrifice.

Daniel's gig was a blast! We all had a hard time breathing, during the gig, and a couple of hours after it. Look forward to the next time! Also: any chance Kai Humphries gets a special?
I'd say, there were two kinds of audience in there: millennials, grown up to beatles and british culture, and gen z, growing up to comedian shows on youtube, ie somewhat different cultural references, but a very joint love of good comedy.
Now, I was fortunate enough to help out a bit with Dylan Moran, Eddie Izzard and a few more US, UK and Irish comedians to perform in Russia back in 2014-17, and NO ONE asked us for a show script for the government, I swear it!
Including Izzard's 9 May Comedy San Frontier show, going at the same time as the tanks were going through the Red Square, when we legit expected someone to come over and shut us all down.

Been to this show in Warsaw too. I was joking that this room held the entire Polish population with C1+ level of English (or some were just faking it). I'm an English teacher and haven't met many people so far who would care to learn English on such a level to understand what Daniel's jokes are about. I really liked Jigsaw and Dark. With X, I already felt I'm not a target group anymore, since he was explaining there things most women (and empathetic men) find obvious, so yeah, a bit disappointed. But really appreciate his rule of having show tickets affordable.

Hard disagree on the politics and comedy part. Maybe because I am very much in favour of satire, but comedy has always been a way to criticise the people in power and a show or movie that not only entertains you, but also makes you think can help you grow. The EU bit also sounds like you based your opinion on the constant anti-EU bashing from the media and some childhood nostalgia. First of all other countries are not theme parks catering to your vision of what other cultures should be like. Secondly globalisation is not the fault of the EU. Companies like Starbucks or H&M have also taken over countries like Japan. Do you also want to blame the EU for that? It's weird to hear this "loss of identity" argument from a British person, who lives in a union that already has people with different national identities unified without eradicating them. Are you also mad that Costa and Pret are all over Scotland and blame the UK? I'm open for a debate on the Euro based on the economic impact it has on the countries, but being mad that you cannot play with different currencies when being on vacation in Europe is one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard. Personally I like not being subjected to bad exchange rates and ridiculous fees when making a short trip to one of our neighbouring countries. It might not sound as spectacular when playing poker, but at least I'd get to keep 100% of what I've one instead of giving a big chunk to the bank. It's completely fine to be pro Brexit and dislike the EU, but you should really make up your mind, why you feel that way, instead of coming up with weird arguments like this. It just makes it sound like you're trying to solve the cognitive dissonance of internalising the hate against the EU, but actually not having any reason to hate it.

Interesting to hear your opinion on entertainers talking politics. It might be a cultural thing (American here), cause I also hate when rich, stupid actors give some diehard blind-sighted rehearsed speech, but I think in America our history with stand up is that they have many times been the “truth tellers” of a generation - back to Lenny Bruce, Pryor and George Carlin. My experience with British stand up culture thinks yall tend to see it more as a theatrical performance/entertainment type of thing.
