Takes a special kind of guy to take a sword the size of a motorcycle through his torso and shake it off as if he'd merely been punched in the gut.
well the dude is made with super cells (jenova cells) that can regen fast, etc. The wound does take its toll however, as in final fantasy 7 when you find sephiroth's body encased in mako at the crater it's missing its lower half (no legs).
You know Clouds body rejected Mako hence he was never deemed fit for soldier at this point, only after the events he was injected with Jenova cell's and gained strong traits, he managed to lift Sephiroth with pure will something Sephiroth never had at that point. Put it this way you would be angry and the shear adrenaline boost would course through your veins so that could possibly helped over come the odds and this is what may have happened and how Cloud managed to toss Sephiroth off the edge
And then plank over stairs.
despite the fact a HUGE SWORD just pierced his stomach he a can still walk, and he did not nearly split in two... final fantasy for ya!

Cloud is one of the few heroes who went from being a CANNON FODDER Stormtrooper, to one of the galaxy's biggest badasses, who eventually defeated a soldier who was a literal god of war.

And here's me wondering how the fck did Cloud ever fail the initial tests for entering SOLDIER if he could pull this kinda stuff off without even Mako enhancements, lifting that Buster Sword one handed and leaping that kind of height with it, actually hurling Sephiroth in a direct contest of strength......
When the average 3rd Class pretty much bites it with a love tap, and even Zack stumbled and struggled to carry the Buster Sword first time he held it, how the hell did Cloud fail entering the unit if he had this kind of strength?
vc180191 Cloud would have been in SOLDIER he passed all the physical requirements, but he failed the psychological ones.
Xenosoul Yes. Because Sephiroth shows you have to be psychologically sound to be in SOLDIER.
TheDumbRock In his defence, Sephiroth was a relatively decent and sane guy until the Nibelheim Incident and what he discovered down in the basement broke him. (calm, didn't take offence at accidental disrespect, was mindful of his subordinates health, was willing to go against orders to do the right thing and had a strangely cynical sense of humour, nothing in Crisis Core indicated he had problems early on except how unnerved he was the first time he and Zack found one of Genesis's places and saw the machines there)
It's because Cloud is supposed to be someone that has the potential to have great strength and endurance when he has the drive to see things through, but was held back because of how little he thought of himself all those years ago. The whole adventure in the original game is him unwittingly gaining that determination and realizing his potential, climaxing with him utterly owning Sephiroth in that weird mindscape he was pulled into.
Then Advent Children gives him alien cancer and undoes everything...
vc180191 there are fan theories that have been floating around for decades about this scene. One in particular I always found intriguing was the idea that Cloud had some natural superhuman abilities from birth...this being because Cloud was the planets "plan A" to stopping Jenova and the future calamity. But, when Cloud was fused with Jenovas cells and went mental this plan failed...and the Weapons became the planets more intensive strategy. Cloud was more of a passive plan that failed but then actually worked in the end.
Essentially, everything in Final Fantasy VII is Hojo's fault.
Literally; If you think about it, pretty much everything spirals back to Hojo's sick experiments.
I love how Sephiroth got stabbed with a giant sword and he somehow wasn't paralyzed or bleeding to death. I love even more how Cloud was stabbed in the chest and some how lived.
But my legit favorite part was when Cloud was sliding down the stairs and he just kind of came to an abrupt stop. I lol'ed

Because Cloud had an inner strength that grew out of his caring for Tifa and Zack. He knew he had to defend his friends, and Sephiroth could never match that strength.

And... we're still trying to figure out how his body wasn't split in half, that sword was the the size of his waist
but sephiroth was born with jenova cells in him so he's technically permanently upgraded :)

In the original game, when you see Sephiroth in the Northern Crater in the materia crystal, he doesn't have a lower half.

@mystic2689: The producers intended that scene to be a metaphorical representation of Cloud's will versus Sephiroth's, it wasn't a literal fight scene. It was meant to illustrate Cloud's will being stronger than Sephiroth's, not that Cloud could actually pull off what he did. Or so, that's what I read.

He was an army grunt. Just a regular, unaltered human being with a gun.
Hmm, Sephiroth in japanese version he seems to be more expressive not only in his words but through his voice too.
I like how in the cutscene when Sephiroth stabs Cloud he says in with furious voice almost like a scream "Don't get over confident" (and is normal because he's doing a lot of effort to stay on his feet after being stabbed by the buster sword)
But in the english dub, Sephiroth says "Don't test me" but his voice sounds more silent but still menacing. Sephiroth in the english dub goes more through the silent anger.
I couldn't help but lol at the way cloud slid down the stairs.

Even though it did take away Cloud's laughter and continued to traumatize him for years to come due to constant visions of Sephiroth, causing him to almost destroy the world by his own hands at least twice--but yeah, Cloud did turn out pretty awesome.
Still awesome to watch, but still sucks that even though Cloud threw Sephiroth after being stabbed, it was in the wrong area. Sephiroth was attempting to exit and passed Cloud in the original but as Cloud chased Sephiroth over the reactor bridge, he was stabbed over that bridge, and not in the room, but I still prefer this over the damn Last Order crap.

@FoftheCs Sephiroth's appearance in the original game is Sephiroth's will controlling Jenova's body as though it was an extension of his own, shapeshifting it (Jenova's main trait) into his own visage. Cloud is 16 years old during this. Cloud survives because Hojo scoops him and Zack up (Zangan took Tifa away before Shin-Ra caught her) and injects them with Sephiroth cells, for his Jenova Reunion Theory. Cloud and Zack don't die, though they are watched for 5 years until Zack breaks them out.
I love the music. It gives the whole "Nibelheim Incident" vibe the entire time.
No "give them back" quote from Cloud?
Interestingly enough there isn't. Although I guess it doesn't really make sense to "give it back" when you stab someone with a huge sword.
Think he was referring to the original where Cloud goes "My mother... my hometown... Tifa... give them back!" And halfway cleaves Sephiroth through the midsection.

Sephiroth stops short of the cell, staring at his reflection in the glass, pausing for a moment that would've felt like an eternity to anyone else... and asks, with great sentiment, "Mother... how can I spike my hair to look just like Cloud's?"

Agree with the expressed sentiments about Hojo, BTW. I had a hard time getting through "Dirge of Cerberus", but it was worth it to see Hojo get his ass kicked again. :)
You do realize you can always watch the anime version of this section of the game, its like 10 minutes longer and includes blood, and it ends a little bit differently by the fact that cloud his held off the side, pulls himself back to safe ground and just spins the sword around to toss sephiroth off, by throwing off his balance.
Sephiroth's mother was Lucretcia and if you saw her in some of the Dirge of Cereberus cut scenes you'd see where he got his hair. Jenova didn't even have human form when it first came to the planet, it adopted that form later to be able to move through the population. That's at least the way I understand it.

Then the dude who trained her in the martial arts, I think his name is Zangan or something like that walked in after the cloud versus Sephiroth fight happens. Noticing that people from Shinra are not far behind and only able to carry one person, Zangan took the grievously injured Tifa to safety, while Cloud and Zack were taken by Hojo for study. Due to the severity of her injuries and the fact that fist fighters(in most videogames) suck at using magic, in this case "Cure", he went to Midgar to-

Nope this is the original sephiroth. Hojo was experimenting the reunion theory with jenova cells and infected other people with them, those people who are infected jenova can control, and turn them into sephiroths image.
And sephiroth didnt actually die here, he got threw into the mako/lifestream in the reactor, and over the course of 7 years he learned knowledge about the ancients and meteor while being in the lifestream.
Damn Jenova...that figure of yours...you been working out the last 2000 years???
Cloud had the physical potential to join SOLDIER, as demonstrated here - but he didn't have the mental capacity to deal with the Mako and Jenova Cell infusion process. We see twice that Cloud suffers from Mako poisoning when exposed to large doses of Mako Energy.
oh...and I find it depressing how one flight of metal stairs not much better than than those emergency ones you find at those low-cost flats in Queens gets more action in one night than I do in all my 20+ years of living.
@PikaBaka101 So,cloud lived after he was stabbed right through the heart with sephiroth's sword,and somehow still managed to live after he fell a down like 20 stairs and stopped next to Zack,and then he still managed to live,even though Zack somehow died after he was throws onto stairs by the power of sephiroth's sword
i'll answer a lot of questions people seem to have, sephiroth didn't expect someone to stab him from behind, only someone with honor and courage can wield that blade, cloud was pissed off and running off of emotion alone thats what made him so strong, sephiroth is a superhuman so no stab like that would kill him, cloud got pierced either in the lung (not fatal at first) or above the heart, and sephiroth was hurt so cloud used him as a lever to get on his feet and throw him into the wall.
I love how they fucked up with the music on this epic moment. Still awesome to watch.

It's the one where you edit using a Hex Editor into making UA-cam think your video has less bitrate that it really does or something like that, so UA-cam doesn't mess up the quality of your uploads.

Cloud's inability to join SOLDIER was because he wasn't mentally strong enough to withstand the mako and jenova cells influence on the mind. Thats why he went comatose when Hojo preformed the treatment on him.

I'm quite confused... Cloud in here was able to wield the sword as if it was a paper but in the ending he was dragging the Buster Sword as if it was very heavy...please someone clear this up for me..

I totally agree with you. The whole point of Cloud being the hero of the story kind of goes with the whole theme of FF7--normal, humble, 'underdog' people can change the world. Cloud was a normal guy who found strength from himself and his friends to protect the planet. It's only when he's trying to play 'hero' in his head that he isn't whole.

Yes, for sure. I'm guessing he was only at half-strength, if not less. Hard to say what his regenerative abilities are since Jenova could be completely dismembered and be brought back together, though I doubt he was so gifted.

Plus he probably had a lot of blood loss due to being stabbed with the Buster Sword, and all kinds of other internal damage that would kill just about any unenhanced human. So even without the shock of meeting someone who could stand up to him he would have been pretty disoriented.
Yeah, Cloud, if you can barely stand, stairs are a bad, bad idea.
Why didn't Sephiroth just drop the sword? I get that he was shocked but he could have still released his grip on the thing :l.

Cloud and Zack were best friends. Cloud thought he was the 1st Class SOLDIER that Zack truly was as a result of the Jenova cells/mako infusion that Hojo experimented with on him. He took on Zack's persona but there really was a Zack and Cloud really did grow up with Tifa in Nibelheim - he's not a clone, just a guinea pig.
