Northern Crater is the perfect spot....enemies are more powerful (understandable since it’s the final dungeon) and your Level up screen goes lot faster. I mostly have my Wall, Fire, Ice, Lighting and few other ones maxed up so it was totally fine with me.

Im 31 years old. Ive been gaming since 1994 and I love video games. From then until now I have never faced an enemy like Sephiroth. He is the only villain who will really send chills down my spine and Ive played Resident Evil, Doom, The Last of Us, The Evil Within and so on. Not one can freak me out like Sephiroth. The guy even has his own boss music with HIS name repeated.
I read fanfiction and the bearess most passing reference to Sephiroth that apears and i hear his theme and start to feel PURE UNADULTERATED TERROR!!! THAT is how TRAUMATIZED i was after first meeting Sephiroth!

I really hope that when they finally finish the other parts of FFVII Remake they will also create a playable version of Advent Children to really finish it off. That will be fuckin awesome.
When Cloud said there is not anything in life he won't cherish, he meant he'll enjoy life and live in the present rather than wallow in the past. Aerith wanted him to put the past behind him and keep going in life.
I also love how the ending truly is pure Cloud. He will fight with all his heart and might when he has to. Then, when he could effortlessly finish off Kidaj, he just catches him and holds him until he fades away.

Part of me wonders if this duel was making up for the rather simplistic final duel in the original game. It’s incredibly brutal, and shows Sephiroth, in a normal fight, would have painted the Planet with Cloud’s blood in FFVII proper if that final sword duel wasn’t impossible to lose normally.
If I take your meaning, I wouldn’t argue with the statement that that whole movie was just pretense to animate this fight. Not that I necessarily agree, I just wouldn’t counter argue. And I’m fine with that. This duel is worth it, and frankly I don’t think the rest of the movie is nearly as bad as people have made it out to be. Plus, Cloud finally getting some face to face closure with Zack himself after forgetting him at the end of Crisis Core is so satisfying. Cloud may have forgotten Zack for a time, but he never stopped being his living legacy. He remembered to embrace his dreams and protect his honor, and that’s what Zack wanted more than being personally remembered. At least that’s how I see it. Death of the Author IS at play for me.

After all these years I JUST REALIZED that the trio in this movie are literally remnants of sephiroth. Hear me out, I was like 10 when I saw this, so a lot of this is starting to make sense now.
I mean Sephiroth's a badass but even after watching this film I'm gonna have to rate Sovereign from Mass Effect a little higher, at least in terms of presentation.
If you can, absolutely watch Advent Children Complete. It adds new scenes that make the movie flow a bit better and a few tweaks to details. Bahamut showing damage from Cloud smashing its face in, how serious geostigma actually was rather than being a nasty black rash, and of course, this scene with Cloud getting slashed up by Sephiroth.
6:02 - Cloud does the original Omnislash. Why is Sephiroth a badass? He's the only one who can counter a limit break, just like that Omnislash right there. Also, he has a badass theme song, AND THEY CHANT HIS NAME.
To be fair Sephiroth is obsessed with making Cloud suffer, so the first priority he has is learning every potential action and reaction that cloud is capable of. Sephiroth will give the new omnislash limit break that cloud performed here a thorough analysis and examination so he can counter it with the intent to make Cloud finally break down in despair mid battle.
Can’t help but notice as kadaj takes in the cells and lands/turns into Sephiroth..and cloud slamming into him/sword appearing metallically. the background and sound is so similar to when Sephiroth flies down and stabs Aerith in the OG game...
Always loved this fight. And Sephiroth has the upper hand almost the entire battle. I also love how Sephiroth remembers what defeated him previous times. The first time, he was caught off-guard by Cloud's strong will. The second time when it was just him and Cloud, Cloud used Omnislash, which Sephiroth hadn't seen before, therefore didn't know how to defend against it. And now this third time, Cloud uses Omnislash again, only this time Sephiroth was ready for it and countered it. But when Cloud uses a new version of Omnislash, Omnislash Version 5 as Dissidia calls it, Sephiroth is once again taken off-guard, not knowing how to defend against this attack. In other words, as long as Sephiroth knows all of what his opponent is capable of, he can't be beaten. So you'd absolutely have to show him something new to have a chance.
Very late, I know, but I just wanted to share this. I recall watching this, not being a huge FF nerd, way back when. That moment Sephiroth was introduced gave me such chills. It was glorious, indeed.
I always found it funny how people used this as proof that Cloud was way weaker then Sephi. Don't get me wrong Sephi is still stronger by a bit, but I fairly sure the time gap didn't have serious fights, and Cloud's days so far involved tanking a mega flare, killing Bahamut, the highway chase, while he was suffering from geostigma, then after he was cured from it, he was back into it with someone who could go even against him for a bit. Then Sephi showed up. So him losing a bit of ground to Sephi is understandable.

When Cloud said there is not anything in life he won't cherish, he meant he'll enjoy life and live in the present rather than wallow in the past. Aerith wanted him to put the past behind him and keep going in life.
I also love how the ending truly is pure Cloud. He will fight with all his heart and might when he has to. Then, when he could effortlessly finish off Kidaj, he just catches him and holds him until he fades away.

And if this was og seph he wouldn't have that yet even with seeing the events that transpired. He would still need the black materia to get himself out of the crystal state he was in. But the game makes it clear, this is seph. The real seph. Ac seph. Who is almost in nostalgia with everything happenimg again like these were moments he cherished. Including cloud killing him. Twice.

Part of me wonders if this duel was making up for the rather simplistic final duel in the original game. It’s incredibly brutal, and shows Sephiroth, in a normal fight, would have painted the Planet with Cloud’s blood in FFVII proper if that final sword duel wasn’t impossible to lose normally.
If I take your meaning, I wouldn’t argue with the statement that that whole movie was just pretense to animate this fight. Not that I necessarily agree, I just wouldn’t counter argue. And I’m fine with that. This duel is worth it, and frankly I don’t think the rest of the movie is nearly as bad as people have made it out to be.
Plus, Cloud finally getting some face to face closure with Zack himself after forgetting him at the end of Crisis Core is so satisfying. Cloud may have forgotten Zack for a time, but he never stopped being his living legacy. He remembered to embrace his dreams and protect his honor, and that’s what Zack wanted more than being personally remembered. At least that’s how I see it. Death of the Author IS at play for me.
I cant believe this animation was aired on 2005 cmiiw.. up to now there's no 3d animation from Japan could top this. Saint Seiya Sanctuary was good but this one still unbeatable ❤

If you can, absolutely watch Advent Children Complete. It adds new scenes that make the movie flow a bit better and a few tweaks to details. Bahamut showing damage from Cloud smashing its face in, how serious geostigma actually was rather than being a nasty black rash, and of course, this scene with Cloud getting slashed up by Sephiroth.

Why is Sephiroth a badass? He's the only one who can counter a limit break, just like that Omnislash right there.
Also, he has a badass theme song, AND THEY CHANT HIS NAME.
To be fair Sephiroth is obsessed with making Cloud suffer, so the first priority he has is learning every potential action and reaction that cloud is capable of.
Sephiroth will give the new omnislash limit break that cloud performed here a thorough analysis and examination so he can counter it with the intent to make Cloud finally break down in despair mid battle.

Can’t help but notice as kadaj takes in the cells and lands/turns into Sephiroth..and cloud slamming into him/sword appearing metallically. the background and sound is so similar to when Sephiroth flies down and stabs Aerith in the OG game...
Always loved this fight. And Sephiroth has the upper hand almost the entire battle. I also love how Sephiroth remembers what defeated him previous times. The first time, he was caught off-guard by Cloud's strong will. The second time when it was just him and Cloud, Cloud used Omnislash, which Sephiroth hadn't seen before, therefore didn't know how to defend against it. And now this third time, Cloud uses Omnislash again, only this time Sephiroth was ready for it and countered it. But when Cloud uses a new version of Omnislash, Omnislash Version 5 as Dissidia calls it, Sephiroth is once again taken off-guard, not knowing how to defend against this attack.
In other words, as long as Sephiroth knows all of what his opponent is capable of, he can't be beaten. So you'd absolutely have to show him something new to have a chance.

I always found it funny how people used this as proof that Cloud was way weaker then Sephi. Don't get me wrong Sephi is still stronger by a bit, but I fairly sure the time gap didn't have serious fights, and Cloud's days so far involved tanking a mega flare, killing Bahamut, the highway chase, while he was suffering from geostigma, then after he was cured from it, he was back into it with someone who could go even against him for a bit. Then Sephi showed up. So him losing a bit of ground to Sephi is understandable.
You find it funny when the Ultimania flat out says Cloud was absolutely outmatched here.

So, I remember the first time I watched this with my older brother and a couple of his friends. They were nice enough to let the little sister watch haha. I just remember in this final scene, one of my brother’s friends singing in a really high voice “taco sauce!” To the word Sephiroth. Good times!!
