    There is a stove sort of like that I want to get from an army surplus place. It sure would make winter camping more fun. Thanks for this video

      Hi Tressa, I went back and fourth for months on a few options. Ended up deciding to get this one for a good balance between cost and durability. There are much lighter ones but they're more costly and I question how long-lasting they would be. I'm beyond excited to fire this up in the tent.

      Thanks! It's fun doing gear reviews and unboxing videos. I wanted to include the manual on the off chance someone didn't get one and saw the video. They can pause it and see the steps at a glance. Honestly, it was super easy to assemble. You probably don't even need a manual.

      Thanks Jason, I was impressed at how easy the whole thing was to set up and it was nice that it pretty much came with everything I need. I might add a few screws to screw together chimney sections (if it's windier) and I might add a shovel to scoop out the ashes but otherwise it's a pretty complete set! You can also buy an add on hot water heater that bolts on the side. I skipped it though because I think the water would add too much humidity in that tent which would be a problem in both summer and winter.

      Absolutely! It was nice to not have to add stove pipes and things. The warming racks are neat too. This unit has an optional side mounted hot water tank. I don't think it interests me since the water boiling would add alot of steam and humidity in the tent but it's a cool option to have.

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  Рік тому

      It is very heavy but you're right - good quality! Solid steel takes a while for the stove to feel hot to the touch but then it does a good job radiating heat even when the fire burns down. I had it so hot on the last trip though that the stove was glowing red, so I had to throttle down the air flow to slow the burn.

      That's a great idea. I've seen people make them out of old barrels, propane tanks or even ammo cans. If I had the tools, I might have gone that route but for the cost of tools plus time I'm ok with saving for this.
      The main thing with it is to wait and not pay regular price. They always drop to this sale price a couple times per year.

    great looking design i think i will build one like that, take care

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  Рік тому

      The only major flaw I have so far is that only two of the legs have holes drilled through them where the little wingnut can screw right through the place where the legs sit. This means that two of the legs screw on tightly and the others can be flimsy. I think they intended it that way so you can adjust the other two legs (since there isn't a hole for the wingnut to go through) you can adjust the length on uneven ground. However, when you carry it, the legs slip off which can be a pain to set the thing back down - since it weighs like 70 lbs.

    Hi Dan. That is a pretty cool stove. Looks like it will for sure take the chill out, in a hot tent. Little heavy to carry very far. But small enough to haul in your truck pretty easy. Great video, bud!!

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      Hey Tracy, yes this is a TANK! Not something that you'd be able to carry far. I think I can drag it on my sled if I need to set camp away from the truck. This thing is heavy just to lug up and set in the tailgate! When I tested it out it retained heat for a while so I think the solid steel helps that out - I hope it performs well here in hunting camp. I booked a week of vacation in October and another week in November so I'll definitely be putting this thing to the test.

      When I tested it , the stove seemed to retain heat for a few hours after. I had to leave it easily 4-5 hours before I could pick it up to move it out of the yard and put it in the garage. I hope that the heat retention helps for those overnights so I don't have to stoke the fire as much. Can't wait to get it fired up in the tent. I have a week vacation in October and a second week in November for deer hunting so I can't wait to get it all set up.

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  Рік тому

      Hey Candace, two of my legs aren't drilled through either. I think it's intentional so you can adjust the length of the legs for uneven ground. It is annoying to carry as the legs can sometimes slide off. My pipes were tight. I found that lining up the stove pipe seams definitely help. Remember the pipe that's the narrowest has the damper. They all stack up from there with the next longest going on and so far. I tapped my pipes together lightly with a piece of firewood to get each with about an inch or two overlap. Try those tips and let me know if it helps.

      LOL I'm thinking the same thing! Not sure if I'm going to go with the old school Cowboy Perc, or my little espresso stove pot - or instant coffee. Either way I dream of getting that morning fire going and making coffee in there. Cheers Buddy!

    the flat top would be nice for cooking

      @DCOutdoors  Рік тому

      Absolutely, when I used it on the last trip I didn't cook in the tent since bears/cougars are still out and about and I don't like cooking inside the tent. However, if I use it later in the winter, I might give it a try! The side warmers were helpful to warm up and dry boots. I did use it to boil a bit of water and heat up coffee a couple mornings which was nice and convenient.

      Thanks Dave, I gave consideration to the ones you recommended to me a while back but opted for this one since it was cheaper. Although heavier , I hope that makes it durable and long lasting.

      Thank you! It's a pretty heavy-duty piece of gear. I hope that it last a long time for me and I'm really hoping that the solid steel design will retain a ton of heat to keep me warm all night. I've booked off a week of vacation in October and a second week of vacation in November so I'll be doing a lot of fall camping and putting the tent and stove to the test.
      Again, thanks for watching and see you on the next one!

    $329! 73 lbs! Are those Canadian pounds? It also looks like it’s going to take up some floor space. Maybe you can find a fireplace mat to put underneath. It looks very capable of heating up your tent. The free fire starter was nice. Looking forward to seeing your after action report.

      Hey Mark, 73lbs or 33 kilograms. It's a heavy beast. I bought a couple welders blankets. One will go under the stove and one likely behind to keep the walls and floor safe. I think it should do well enough in a 10 foot x 10 foot tent.

      It's very, very heavy and super bulky. I hope that means that it's made well and will last a lifetime. I might build some carrying bag or system for it so it's easier to deal with.

      @@DCOutdoors you know I went to a warehouse sale or some kind of sale back in the day and they had these really nice heavy duty plastic containers that transported some kinda camera gear or some sort of thing and in every size imaginable. All were used but sold incredibly cheap ! And in perspective of this comment thread some had wheels that made them easily transportable.
      Man I bet one of those would work great if it could be found

    Hey Folks!
    Super pumped to have this stove as an add to my winter camping kit. I'll be using this along side my Cabela's Ultimate Alaknak 10x10 tent. If you haven't checked out the unboxing and initial tent set up video, you can watch it below.
