  • This is my second attempt at function testing of the PSA JAKL 300BLK upper. It turns out that I am not the only one having problems, so I am making this video public.

    I know nothing about loading/reloading but I respect the guys that do. My JAKL 300blk upper just came a couple of hours ago and you have me concerned. I do think that if I loaded my own ammo I would also pack a few retail rounds, something non-glorious but just stupid reliable. That way, with a new gun particularly, I am looking at one variable at a time. Just spitballing, I am not in your shoes and I don't know what you know. Looking forward to your progress. Thank you for your efforts.

    Hi, I came back to your video here, because I'm using a stock CMMG Banshee 9mm (suppressed) at the range. & I recall in this video you mentioning something about "over gassed" or "under gassed," with respect to 1 cartridge feeding into the chamber, but the old casing not fully ejecting. I had this happen 3 times with 147g ammo in one 33rnd Glock mag. What do you recommend I do to my buffer/springs to prevent this? Am I over or under gassed?

    • @chevrofreak
      @chevrofreak  Рік тому +1

      The Banshee does not use a gas system; instead it uses a radial delayed blowback design. This design uses the pressure generated in the chamber, which pushes against the face of the bolt to rotate it using a taper on the back of the bolt lugs. This design works well and shoots soft, but it can have issues with both overpowered and underpowered ammunition. Their barrel has a very generous feed cone cut into the chamber to aid in reliability, but this can cause higher pressure ammunition, or ammunition loaded with fast burning powders to expand the case web, which will often cause the case to get stuck in the bolt head. If you are not having problems with cases deforming, you more than likely have underpowered ammunition. If you have cleaned and oiled the bolt and carrier and the problem still persists, you could experiment with a lighter weight recoil spring. Sprinco sells many different options for this. I hope that helps with the problem.
      Another issue that the Banshee design has is that it kills the ejector springs pretty rapidly. If you have the tools and knowledge to replace the ejector spring every thousand rounds or so it should prolong the duration of reliability.

      This is what I mean when I am talking about the brass. This is pretty extreme, but it gives you an idea.

      @@chevrofreak The Banshee is pretty dirty, with about ~350 suppressed rounds through it. I just got back from the range, & with the gun still just as dirty, I shot 4 different ammo brands through it (all 147g). Blazer Brass, Federal, Winchester Suppressed & finally Ammo Inc's stelTH ammo. The only 33rnd Glock mag that fed w/out issue was the stelTH ammo; the other 3 had 4 or 5 rounds loaded into the chamber, but the previous round got smashed by the bolt & didn't extract.
      I know I need to try the Banshee clean, but I figured I'd try all 4 of these ammos with a dirty gun, because the previous ~350 rounds fired were the cheapest 147g remanufactured ammo I could find on AmmoSeek

      I think it depends on the bullet. If they load a 220gr Sierra Match King to the cannelure the bullet is rather deep in the case and shouldn't cause problems.

    Having the same exact issue with my .300 jakl. Mine will not cycle anything. Have you figured out what the problem is yet?

      I haven't been back up yet since we just had a winter storm, but I did get a couple of new dies to eliminate as many variables as possible. I picked up a Dillon full length carbide sizing die ($200 by itself, ouch) and a Hornady seating die. The Hornady seating dies have a sliding alignment collar that effectively prevents the bullet from being seated crooked. All of my brass has already been resized, so the Dillon die won't come into play until later.
      I loaded up 60 rounds of 150gr Hornady Interlock soft points at their recommended 2.106" OAL and every one of them cycled through the chamber just fine by hand. They are seated rather deep, so there isn't much of the bearing surface left to interact with the chamber. I plan to load some more of the Berry's 220gr bullets at a shorter OAL as well.

      Magpul ACR stock on a Haga Defense adapter. Neither are made anymore, but Haga is selling the B&T MBT stock with an adapter that is pretty similar. I have one for the 300BLK lower and when that stamp finally gets approved I will do a video on them.
