    My favorite part of all of this is if you scroll back to the update that came out after this video, the single developer actually listened and fixed a ton of the issues pointed out. They also removed the cash shop, so cheers to them for actually trying to make it better. Also, they added 4 more to the length of the characters name (now 20) so you can now properly be thunderhammer!

In that game, friendly factions have Respect, which goes up when you do things for them, and higher respect gets you discounts from vendors, new quests, etc. Enemy factions have Infamy, which goes up when you kill them, and higher Infamy causes stronger enemies to spawn, which makes it easier to get better loot.

    Hello Josh! On the ability order...Looks like the creator (almost!) used the stat order from the original version of Dungeons and Dragons and the 1st edition of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (~1980). At that time the order was Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Dexterity, Constitution, Charisma. Not sure why they swapped Constitution and Dexterity in this game. The more common order of Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma began in AD&D version 2.

    • @Glazius7
      @Glazius7 3 роки тому +37

      The original original version does it Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Constitution, Dexterity, Charisma. This is because the three available human classes are Fighting-Man, Magic-User, and Cleric, which have prime requisites matching the first three attributes. Constitution is something that affects everyone's hit points, so it comes next, and Dexterity and Charisma are more situationally useful elements so they come later. When the Thief class is added later on, its prime requisite is Dexterity, so that moves up to the "prime requisite" section of the attributes, resulting in the order you've noted.

    28:25 "What the hell is up with the light rays coming from the windows at random angles?!"
    This is something you see fairly often when someone who is new to 3D modeling tries to model game assets, or when you're using a questionable compiler to convert models from the modeling software to the ingame format.
    To explain it simply, a 3D model is made up of points in 3D space called "vertices". When you connect two vertices together you form an "edge" which is basically just a line between vertices. If you connect 3 or more edges together in a loop you get a "face", which makes up the "skin" of the model that you're creating. Your model is made up of many many of those faces or "polygons". Those lines or "light rays" as you call it happen when you connect too many edges and faces to the same vertice. That's bad. You never want one vertice to have more than 4 edges connected to it. Basically the lighting portion of the 3D software gets confused and doesn't really know what to do, so it produces these lines in the model that mess up it's appearance. It's considered a form of artifact or glitch/bug in the model. If you look closely you can see that each of the "light rays" converge on a nearby point. What you're seeing is the edges creating distortions in the model, and the point of convergence is the single vertice that they're connected to.
    It's a common mistake with new modelers and it's completely fixable or preventable, and really any serious or even halfway decent hobby modeler learns how to make models without these glitches eventually. They kind of have to or they don't have a job. But since this game is made by a completely new and very inexperienced developer it's not all that surprising to see it.

      I don't understand how ArcheAge is even remotely comparable to any of these meme-tier pieces of garbage. The game has problems (mostly to do with its insistence on combining a highly linearized gearing and leveling system with open world PvP, but the energy system isn't too great either) but it tries to do a lot of small things right, honestly. Things like the ability to actually sit in chairs or light/snuff lights, the soundtrack, the music system, several of the environments, the approach to the player's place in the world's lore, player territory sieges that actually matter, the skill systems... Overall I'd say it's an almost incredible game made mediocre by a few critical decisions being made deadly wrong, not a game competing for being the worst on the market.

    Josh, do Tibia next, hear me on this one:
    I know you often mention it as classic game, a pioneer in certain aspects, but in my opinion the game is a shell of what it used to be.
    While it has grown into a fan-favorite of a very niche community, it is, without a doubt, a microtransaction hellhole. This, in turn, has attracted masses of ill-intentioned players, many of which operate in what I would describe as cartels, with a lot of real life money involved.
    It is my childhood mmorpg, and it wrecks my heart to see it as it is now. It had potential to grow into something special, but it's been ruined and it's only getting worse.

    4:08 STR, INT, WIS, CON, DEX, CHA was the order of the ability scores in original D&D. 3rd edition changed the order in order to group the physical and mental stats together.
    Strength was the primary ability of the Fighting-Man (later Fighter), Intelligence was for Magic-Users (later Wizards), and Wisdom was for Clerics; the three original class of the game. Wouldnt a crypto-miner run on the gpu and not the cpu?
    Also I remember having a bunch of artists on a team on a game project during my 2nd semester at uni and tbh the levels they built ran like shit too. Maybe that game just has devs that have absolutely no clue about the creation of any kind of software, just slapped a bunch of assets together and called it a day. Things like the character creation screen are exactly what you get when this is done.
    The sliders in the character-creation screen are just the default Unity-Sliders without any changes made to them, the buttons are default Unity-UI-Buttons with a free font from the asset-store, same goes for the textfields and selection boxes.
    The "cute" sprites are all taken from another free rpg-asset-pack from the assetstore.
    The "quest description" in the top-right corner right next to the mini-map is also just written in the default Unity-Font, not even TextMeshPro.
    Since all these assets are just taken from other places and the compass is stolen from Skyrim, I would be willing to bet that there is not a single line programmed by anyone in that team in the entire game, just like there isnt any texture or model that has been created by those guys either.
    At this point it is an insult to anyone who ever created any kind of game to call this piece of trash a "game".

      GPU would be a better use of resources for mining yes. However to take over that kind of process well.....its just easier and requires much less skill to take up CPU resources and honestly if they had that kind of programming skill at their disposal it would have been a much better game on many levels. Crypto mining or not, if no one plays it they arent earning. But the graphics scaling ramping up CPU usage like that.....if its NOT crypto mining I cannot think of a way a game could use 15 gigs of RAM without having a download size of at least 50 gigs for reasources to pull from. I hear its made by one guy so i am sure it has memory leaks but if it was just down to leaks it would have crashed more. That its stable if choppy means the CPU is doing SOMETHING. I also believe the speed at which text moves and the speed of the scrolling is deliberately slow as to take up more player time to get more mining done. And frankly i think the illegal mining operation in the crystal cave is a not so subtle developer joke. I know far to many game designers who would do JUST that kind of thing.

The problem is the game is trying to smooth ALL edges and you're seeing the triangles where this goes wrong. It's just how phong works and totally normal.
    The fix would be simple: limit the phong angle, so you actually get some hard edges. You learn that in the first few hours of 3D modelling and it's nothing more than entering a numeric value.

The uMMORPG Component edition uses true Physics based Movement so you can jump, swim, fall of ledges, all the things you would expect.

    I think you're just describing land and housing as private property there in the real world mate. It's ironic that we can all clearly see the faults in a game in these regards but when it comes to real life, we somehow forget that it often goes by the same rules and declare the very things which are toxic to reality as sacred.

      Are you suggesting we should not have permanent housing in the real world?

    • @BrutusAlbion
      @BrutusAlbion 3 роки тому

      @@thedarkknight9021 I'm suggesting that we should curtail real estate hoarding by the elites.
      Realistically speaking you do not want wealthy elites to buy up regular citizen real estate to rent out to said citizen (who would otherwise buy said real estate) because this will take away from the purchasing power of the average citizen (them having to pay rents) and it makes regular housing for normal citizens unaffordable because a regular citizen doesn't have the same disposable income to compete with the extremely wealthy.
      This is what happened in Ancient Rome and Modern Metropolitan areas. Where normal citizens used to own their own home, they were slowly bought out by the wealthy elites who would then rent out the very same homes back to the same class of citizens for higher rents than they otherwise would pay if the person had been able to buy it for themselves.
      This in turn causes the average citizen to go from a home owner to a renter all the while also relatively paying more money for less space. It also takes away the traditional and safe way for a citizen to build up wealth as an investment as regular citizens don't invest in businesses but rather their own home.
      So the more houses that are bought out by the elites will cascade into an income drop for the renting citizens as well as a sharp decrease in their savings capability because they are no longer able to invest in their own home.
      (simply put, you pay rent to live in the home you could have bought and instead of being able to save money, this is taken by the wealthy who bought the home you needed to raise a family, so your income is taken away as well as your traditionally safe method of retirement investment)
      This is one of the primary reasons why the wealthy grow wealthier while the poor grow poorer. It is because they buy up the means that the lower classes need to survive and sell them back to them for a markup. (scalping entire markets essentially going down the list by ROI potential)
      This effect is most pronounced in well developed economies that no longer provide strong economic growth potential. So in order to gain a ROI the wealthy instead of building factories and providing labor, actually starts cannibalizing it's own middle class in order to squeeze out a few extra dollars for themselves. The money has to come from somewhere ... so if there's no economic growth to be had to increase your wealth, the only place left to get it is to squeeze the bottom classes for more money.
      Eventually they will squeeze the middle-class to death unless a massive economic shift takes place such as industrialization, a massive plague that kills of large population base (black plague), or other events that shake up the market but otherwise if left untouched and unregulated, the wealthy will always inevitably starve off the lower classes in order to grow fatter themselves even to the point where the economy is crippled and ineffective.
      This last effect is most pronounced in stagnant economies with aristocratic heritage as the aristocrats are constantly trying to get wealthier and the only way to do so is to make the peasants pay more. In turn this makes it impossible for a peasant to ever buy his own land to support himself with as he cannot compete in purchasing power vs an aristocrat in buying land. This means that he is forever in debt, unable to buy his own land and doomed as a slave to the wealthy aristocrats because he can never obtain a means to support himself with and has to live off the grace of the aristocrat.
      This is why capitalism inevitably leads to the death of the middle class and the formation of a feudal society if left unchecked. (or in our modern world example, the formation of mega corporations and still only living paycheck to paycheck while owning nothing except debt)
      Now don't think I'm some sort of leftist communist hippy because I can write just as big of an essay on why communism is shit too and why it fails as a system. I'm just looking at the realities of each system as it is. They are both deeply flawed if left unregulated and lead to the exploitation of the average human.

I had to do this for FF14 (which I started playing last month), because the story is confusing as hell (so many things aren't explained properly and characters speak in fantasy speak, which I can barely understand sometimes and then there's just a lot of stuff going on at once) to me and I have to occasionally remind myself of wtf has happened recently and why I'm doing what I'm doing.

      I had to occasionally refer to completed quests in EQ2 as well. Sometimes someone in your guild would be working on a "heritage quest" (a quest involving an item that dropped in the original EQ) and you would check your completed quest list to see if you maybe actually already completed it. It saves you a trip to the quest giver in order to find out that way. Sometimes it is hard to remember what quests you have done when there are many HQs and if you have lots of alts.

    I will put my 2 cents about the attributes section being messed up. English is my second language and when I started paying games, I collected some simple vocabulary in that area. Now how I see it strengh, inteligence and wisdom are quite basic English words. However constitution, dexterity and charisma are advanced words and when I saw those for the first time (for me it was dark soul 3) I had to translate all three of them. Maybe they are group up in this way, so when you read it you would have a mental image of the groups for non-native meglish speakers. I really do not think some studio would be THIS selective about it, but it's just a theory.

      I've had intertactions with the guy who made this game, and I can almost promise it's not malicious. He's been an implementor on his own MUD for close to 25 years or so now, and wanted to try his hand at a graphical representation of the MUD he built. It seems he doesn't know much about Unity or 3D rendering, but is probably using this as an opportunity to learn. It IS a free game, and after some feedback he has removed the cash shop from the game.

    Amusingly, their orientation of the dnd stats is actually accurate to how they used to be ordered. They were done so like that because Strength, Intelligence, and Wisdom were the main stats of three of the classes so they were the most important. Then constitution was important to everyone but not a core stat, dex was helpful to melee characters but not required since rogue was more about skills and levels than any of it's stats, and charisma was largely only used for hirelings. Which only really fighter got to have on a regular basis with RAW.
    Meaning they weren't even kind enough to steal the new and more intuitive layout of stats.

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman Рік тому +1

      Thief, not rogue. The class was all about sneaking, climbing, breaking, entering, and backstabbing. It wasn't the "agile, frail, quiet warrior" archetype that the rogue is, it was more akin to Bilbo Baggins.
      It was even underpowered compared to the original three classes, to give the impression of a normal guy fighting alongside heroes of myth. (Hide in Shadows and Move Silently were even separate skills that couldn't be used together!)

    DreamScapes used to be a text based MUD, ages ago. It was a great game if you're into the genre. IIRC, the creator was already playing around with the idea of making it a '3D game', probably because of seeing the success of WoW back then. Pretty much all the players thought it was a bad idea and wanted him to focus on the existing game instead. Eventually it stagnated and slowly died. Didn't think about the game for many years until I saw this vid. Same starting town, some of the same mechanics, just worse. I wish the creator, Melleth/Andy, all the best! Thanks for all the fun we had on the MUD.

    Im pretty active in a lot of game dev circles. Im an aspiring one myself and I live with a professional game dev, and we have lots of friends within those circles. and one thing I see happen a LOT is that there are so many newbie wannabe game devs who only have about a year or less worth of game coding experience who just want to make their own MMOs. for some baffling reason a lot of inexperienced programmers and designers just immediately want to start their first project with an MMO. and often times they come around asking extremely basic questions, and we keep giving them the same answer every time. "if you need to ask basic questions like this and have never completed a game before, then you really shouldn't be attempting to make an MMO". and of course thats not what they wanna hear, so they keep pushing forward until they hit a wall and give up, or release unfinished broken garbage like Dreamscapes Dimensions.
    for anyone reading this who is interested in making their own MMO, Im really sorry to break this to you, but your over ambitious WoW killer MMO isnt ever going to be good if your entire team consists of just five people or less. the best you can hope for is to make something small and simple like Minecraft or Adventure Quest or Runescape, but anything more advanced than those and you'll be biting off way more than you can chew. get some basic games under your belt first before you attempt anything bigger so you can get a good feel of how things are done. it'll help you get a good idea of scope, and know what your limits are.
