Okay, but the story beat of the priest talking about how important Yuuki and Karen are while totally ignoring you, just to have Karen and Yuuki immediately murdered by the first monster they fight is actually hilariously genius. If only they stayed dead.
after reading your comment i just realized one of the "main characters" is named "Karen" when in modern times means someone who wants you to hate them and will attempt to harm you.
The fact that they decided they should have a very short, very loud loop for background music, and the instrument of choice for playing this loop was the bagpipes is amazing.
The overreliance on wife and NPCs is because the game wanted you to self-insert as a main character. However, this also means the main character isn't supposed to do anything because the kind of people who would play self-insert gacha game are the ones who will bitch and howl if a character is allowed even a single independent thought (down to choosable lines of dialogue). So we have a literal log of wood with a legendary +9001 sword duct taped to it, a Waifu (who is supposed to be the eye candy of the game so she's naturally in every cutscene) and a bunch of NPCs because authors realized writing plot when MC is an actual, literal log of wood is difficult. The only way this differs from an average isekai manga is that our MC (who, and i cannot stress this enough, is an actual, literal log of wood) somehow lacks even what passes for isekai protagonist personality.
@@arkaua Gudako, learning with Manga version, is the only real protagonist. Gacha addict and an ax crazy idiot... Meanwhile, actual Fate protags ARE popular, people threw wallets to get a version of Shinji in Grand Order, yeah, the guy actually hated in the VN and adaptations. And Hakuno from Extella is decent. But FGO protag's sprite appears like two times between door stopper plot. Only in like one event and once in the story... It's WEIRD since you even dress him/her up. Last I checked, we were a pumpkin.
@@KasumiRINA Yeah I don't get it. Fate protags are always their own characters and full of personality, Gudako is a lovely gremlin, while in-game Fujimaru is just a cardboard cutout of a person, you can really tell when most often than not your dialogue goes completely ignored and whatever you say between the two options is usually the exact same response anyway.
This game has a funny quirk where sometimes instead of starting in Duchy (where you started) you start at the State, but there's little to no difference because you get booted out immediately for wanting to be an adventurer and end up at Duchy anyway. Alchemia Story is definitely a game of all time.
I like that idea for an Isekai. You've died and met a god who gives you the choice to move on or go to a game-like fantasy world with OP stats, you naturally choose the fantasy world and power-fantasy of your dreams... but the world itself turns out to be so frustratingly dull you've decided that moving on was actually much more preferable. However, due to a mix of super-high defense and health regeneration nothing in the world can meaningfully harm you, and the whole story is just you going from one potential threat to the next hoping they can reduce your HP to zero.
@@therranolleo468 Not really. Saitama doesn't want to die. He just wants to find an enemy who wouldn't die in one punch and would be strong enough to make him bleed again.
During lockdown me and a couple friends ended up playing this game together out of a desperation for having some roundabout way to just hang out together (because somehow between the three of us the we had no compatible consoles and only 1 good working pc at the time). I have a weird sort of love for bad and broken games and none of us really cared about getting far into the game, so we kinda just made our own fun messing around together. We made jokes about our little customizable companion characters, one friend actually managed to take really nice aesthetic pictures, I screenrecorded moments of complete jank, and it was a nice way to goof around together when we were all so isolated. Good times. Will never touch it again.
Never expected to see an MMO I actually played to make Josh so upset. Though the fact I didn't even remember playing this until I saw the dialog box and gacha animation speaks volumes.
I've actually wished for a long time to see his review on this which I didn't even expect for him to actually play it, honestly if he played a little longer, he'd get even more pissed lmao. Although one of the only good thing in this game is the voice acting
@@ellarisgrapvillis I agree man, the YOME concept is surprisingly fun, if only the mechanic was in actual good games lol, even stuff like Pokemon and Terraria and even Skyrim idk lol.
That combat tutorial is a visual representation of what it looks like to get distracted in math class for a few seconds only to find they're working on advanced calculus when you come back.
Josh saying "Yom" instead of "yo me" was really funny. Yome or よめ is the Japanese word for wife, represented with the Kanji 嫁. The game literally tells you to make your own waifu to adventure with... They truly had no shame about who they were trying to appeal to.
@@backlogbuddies 老婆 in Japanese is Old Woman, although 婆 is enough to say it. Even easier if you just write ババ . Guess it's one of those things that got changed a long time ago when Chinese and Japanese split properly.

"yome" (or 嫁) literally means wife in japanese. So yes this is just a waifu adventure simulator. And if you thought Koreans MMORPGs line lineage were grindy, then prepare yourself for Japanese MMORPGs which are grindiers, with absolutely no content bar endless dialogs, little to no customisation gameplaywise (but you can play dress up), and horrible pacing where everything is lightning fast at the begining and then hits a turning point, suddenly becoming the worst slog ever. And they virtually all follow the same pattern of "you unlock double hit at level 10"

"We're on our way to the Road of God and I thought good because I have questions and they're all variations of 'why'" "This boss took three hits so that means in this game he's the tankiest tank to ever tank"
You've done nearly 80 MMOs so far. I feel like you should do a tier list, A way to recall your journey through them all, like how an MMO will make you backtrack to a town. People say Fiesta Online is the worst one so far while others are saying 9 Dragons is the worst. I would like to see you compare the MMOs so far and rank them. I would be nice to recall them all in a big video, After playing more MMOs have your view on earlier games you played in the challenge previously changed?
You want us to make him remember all of them, all the suffering, the pain, the misery, and mostly boredom? Do you not have a soul? NEYTHER ME! I SECOND THIS PETITION !!! In my opinion the champion is Isekai: Demon Waifu... for reasons... ALL THE REASONS.
that's actually a neat idea they have here, a game where you control two characters. not for an escort mission, not for the sake of co-op, but genuinely just that your presence in a world is two.
Granado Espada and Atlantica already did that bunch of years ago and they got at least the game part vastly better than this one. And they both were "asia grinders" as well.
Its pretty nice in my opinion, and they give you a lot of flexibility later on with what your partner can do. (they can become any job you have if you go through a separate level up process, and use any skills from that job you know, even tier 3 skills) Optimal boss runs utilize this heavily, making the yome a versatile buffer/healer/tank for whatever you need. As for the story, you are obviously playing the silent protagonist type self insert, but I think its really cute how whenever people ask for help, s/he looks at you and nods as if you gave he/r the go ahead to help them. Mostly through the story and events you really start to get attached to your yome, and it makes me stupidly happy whenever we are walking and her random text bubble says "I love you" as if she is sneakily saying it.
Bug Fables is a completely different kind of game but it has a similar thing where you control a party of three characters both in the overworld and in battle. It's a really good game I recommend it
24:49 - The lvl 50 1st tier job you unlock after you graduate from Explorer is part of the new update long ago to cater to new players/pros who started a new game. Before the update, it was hell to grind lvls since 1st tier job's max lvl is 50, 2nd tier job's max at lvl 70 (except for bard which is lvl 120 but considered as a second tier job),and 3rd tier jobs at lvl 120. Also you'll get more powerful the more jobs you grind as stats from the 1st and 2nd tier jobs up to lvl 70 (Bard's learnable passive bonuses r limited to 70)accumulate to your overall stats so it's recommended to grind ALL 1st tier and 2nd tier jobs to max lvl. Sorry for the broken English. Editing from time to time for this to look cohesive.
You are correct about maxing the lv 1 and 2 job. Perm buffs are extremely important to get this game. As for the outfits from the gacha. You want to focus on the ones that fit your future play style, and the accessories. Then there are the accessories you get from the boss battles. Oh yeah. There is a class that lets you collect skills from the enemies, and it’s fun to collect them. Especially the hard to get skills. I’m looking at you, Coco and the Elemental Spirits.
Its also much better now that they are level 50 because the skills for early jobs are often usable by any job and your yome. Some are really important like aoe skills to clear low level enemies faster, and healing skills for when difficulty ramps. it was a really good change and definitely does not skip all the leveling lol... t3 jobs take hours.
I swear to god, if you put in another one of those "there's jiggle physics" while i'm drybrushing, you're moving down to the second most favorite creator to watch during mini painting.
Holy fuck, I remember playing this on a whim on my phone back in like 2018. Crazy that it's still around, but even crazier that it hasn't changed *AT ALL* after all these years.
It is pretty different. when it first started the main story was actually pretty tough with most people dying and getting stuck around the abul king fight or the maou chan fights. Back then people were struggling with the early t1 job grind, and only had 2 tier 2 jobs. Now its simple so that people who don't even change their skills or level up gear like josh won't be barraged by systems right away.
So far, this sounds like a TTRPG adventure where the GM is a railroading weeb, and every NPC is a GMPC with a backstory that is more important than yours.
Hey, railroading *can* work, and you can have a lot of fun in a railroaded game. The problem isn't the railroading, it's the competence. And this hypothetical GM, is incompetant.
Railroading as a term is thrown around way to lightly nowadays. Railroading is a functional way of dming. What it's conflated with is taking agency away from the player by overruling or ignoring their input. No dig at you, mind you.
@@lawaern3474 i think a railroaded game only works if all of the players agree that this is a game where they can't just run off and do whatever they want all of the time, and there's an expectation from everyone involved that there will be things that have to happen a certain way, whatever way the GM has predetermined. in other words, railroading can only be fun if everyone is on the same page about what that even means for their particular game. and at that point, it's not railroading, it's just... playing through the campaign as the GM intended. your example just sounds like organized gameplay, not railroading.
@@Darkfyyre In my opinion, a good DM "railroads" the characters with consequences. If the mayor asks you to save his child and you decide to go and kill them instead, don't be surprised my the op mercenary he sends after you.
Ok. Just 2 sliver lining. Two. The only reasons why I remember this game as clear as I do is that. 1. You make yourself a partner to play with, which I love. 2. The portrait and landscape modes. I love to have options when playing the game. Could be made better, yes, but this flexibility is rare.
The options on accessories and sometimes on costumes, damn, I loved this. The customization part is good in this game, but the story, the grinding part...its just bad.
The temple music at 23:55 sounds very similar to the song that plays at Kingdom Hearts's Station of Awakening (or Station of Serenity in KH2), the area where Sora awakens his powers and you pick your starting stats, etc
Being able to set your age between -100 and 100 made me laugh. Like, I was wondering if the game was broken enough to let you go as young as 0 years old, then the game exceeds my expectations dramatically. These kind of random unexpected details are always those that make me laugh the most :D
Imagine the kinds of scenarios the game could have with this. "I wish I wasn't born..." "But you aren't, for 81 years in fact." "I wish I won't be born..."
I genuinely feel bad for the artists on this game. They did a really nice job within the confines of "generic 3D anime" and I genuinely like the monsters even if they did seem to re-use them a ton.
Asobimo makes damn good mobile MMO's in general. And most of them are ported to PC now, and ported fairly well. Alchemia Story is nowhere near as bad as JSH is making it out to be. Sure, there are some weird design decisions - but saying it's one of the most horrible mmo's/games he's ever played is exaggeration imo. And of course, the Gacha stuff sucks, but there are way, way worse versions of that system in other games.
@Bewilderbeestie Judging by the look on that rabbit warriors face i think you are right.... Or it was a genuine reaction to the 2 main characters. I would probably react the same way if i got approached by a bald girl with pigtails and what seems to be the manifestation of every hairstail sin in human form. 😂😂😂
@@LordLOC I've also tried it before, the game is just terrible, there are way better F2P MMOs in both mobile and PC so there's no real reason to play this dumpster fire of a game
The only thing this game has going for it is the customization. I don't think Josh ever got to it, considering all the shit he was having to go through already, but you can have an equipment equipped for stats and another one for looks. You can modify the equipment you have for looks in many different ways like stretching it, making it bigger all around, shrinking it, attaching it to different body parts, etc., and it will all show up on the actual model for everyone to see.
The character creation is also broken but has a good base imo. You can make pretty varied characters and honestly more MMOs need body type sliders like it does, too bad they're janky
The game actually shows the character at all times and involves it majorly in the story. However, the system is so intelligent that it recognized how ugly Josh made the character so it decided to treat it as non-existant to not spoil the story.
It might be an overreaction to their previous game, Toram online. Toram was an insanely hard game. The main storyline barely gives you any exp or item drops and eventually the story bosses out-level so much that you can't do the story anymore. Mob monsters give you less than a fraction of a percent of the exp needed to level up, but bosses delete you in one hit. I've never seen another game as hostile to new players as toram.
Toram's hostility is the only thing that makes it cool or fun, though. Admittedly i did stop playing the game pretty early on and several years ago, but this was mainly because i got sick of the bizarre notifications it would send to tell me to keep playing.
@monosophy691 Nowadays, if you're part of a guild, you can use a guild mercenary to steamroll through early and mid game main quest. After that, you'll have to ask a high level guild member to help with end game main quest because the AI on the mercenaries are hilariously bad.
The intro killed me, but the nail in the coffin was the loading bar surpassing 100% Edit: and then "Josh Wife Hayes" and "Strifu and Waifu" killed my ghost and now I'm double-dead.
I never thought alchemia story is that bad. As long as i remember playing the game i feel pretty chill with it, your opinion is eye-opening😂 Also if you can cover alchemia story, i think you can try toram online as well

Actual player here(almsot 4 years on and off) some points to clarify 1- 20:27 the dungeon you were doing are for materials to either enhance gear(armors and weapons) or skills, each skill has a max level of 100 unless those are supports skills, those are max lv1 by default, people actually grind on dungeons you unluck through completing main quest line. 2-the batch download takes an awful amount of time cuz the game is japanese and the company doesn't have a different servers all players play with their ping to japan, this would be awful for any other game but somehow they made it work due to how the battle system works. 3- 24:30 Jobs(classes) have 3 ranks, all your rank 1 classes are max by deffault, this was added like 1 year and a half ago, because before you needed to reach certain level on a class 1 to unlock another and so on, so now you can try all rank 1 classes from the get go, the game caps you when you're trying to reach rank 3 because you need a specific weapon that you need to craft and evolve multiple times to complete the quest, one of the materials for can be bought 9 times per week and you need 33 of those, i imagine so people don't just rush all the content. 4- You never bothered reading the skills nor equiping the skills for the astrologer job, also it seems you never gave the skill tab a look. 5- 10:41 you can adjust the text box height by click and drag(same when playing on phone), also if you into the settings you can make the UI smaller. 6- 21:42 that is not for changing your chat channel thats for changing your channel, ea server spot, each regular map has 1 to 3 channels, those are dynamic, a new channel gets created internally based on how many players are in the current one, the creation of private channels are for bossing or doing Tower of Time basement on the weekly reset. 7- 22:04 She has a name, revealed way later on, although is subtle cuz after she tells the player her name the name box on her still says "maou-chan" which translate to "ruler demon girl". 8- 11:39 that's the regular message for leveling up, but i mean this is a video about "worst mmo ever" so i guess it was an nice coincidence for entertaiment value. 9- 10:20 That's the new player bonus the idea is to capitalize on it because you can play as all jobs, but rank 1 and rank 2 give you passive skills, mostly stats, that make you overall stronger, the most important stat on this game is Defense and Magical defense. 10- The yome(literal japanese for wife) is more important that you think, later on, when going through the main quest line, battle get tricky, this battle are strictly solo, no one can help, so you need to both get gear for you and gear for your companion, on that same note, one of the sub quest, after you complete certain main quest, gives you the oportunity to make an special item that makes it so your companion can use the skills of a specific job, people mostly go for support roles on their yome, but some classes are good for dps yome too, mostly the ones with aoe attacks. 11- 10:70 true but there's a point mid game when you don't need gacha weapons anymore, sort of, the more stronger weapons you use for mid to endgame content are the ones you create yourself, you need to defeat world bosses for the materials, some make you use crystals, this are what gacha weapons, armours and synthetize ones are for, but like you don't need to spend gems for the gacha weapons, the tickets you get from doing weekly stuff serve the same pourpose, you can also use those for crystalizing, crystal can also be use to make your main gear stronger with runes, both weapons and armor can use runes. 12- 17:18 click and drag. 13- 17:46 there was a gems campaign when you were recording this footage, that's why the gem tab looked like that, the offer for the pack showed at the top, and then came the regular options. 14- 20:11 Odd that you didn't showcase the actual boss battles, this game has Dungeons, mostly for the daily exp you get, raid bosses, show on specifc maps, mostly for guild contribution points and for a specific drop for the evolution quest for the weapon to unlock rank 3 jobs, this got changed, so now you can buy the material and world bosses 14 tota, world bosses give accesories and materials for the creation of end game weapons. 15- Yes the english is very ass at the beggining of the game, it gets better later on, i imagine the devs started to read the criticism from overseas players and actually started to pay someone to proof read the translations.

I have nothing less than 200 (might be a lot more) hours in this and a maxed out character, played from launch until late 2018/early 2019. I was thinking about suggesting this game as I played it a *ton* back when I was a frequent commuter, on my mobile phone, and recently came to know that it had been ported to steam. Had actual friends from there. I am stunned to see this played just when I was thinking about sending an email about it. I haven't watched the video yet, but I can actually give insights about why people played this game this one time: 1. Character customization was fun, the character graphics at that time looked really nice for a mobile MMO game (at that time because post 2019 saw a lot of higher quality MMO games come to mobile). Lots of clothing and stuff that could be overlayed over your armor, like transmog. 2. Combat was something unique for mobile MMOs, didn't take too much mechanical toll, and was fun enough. 3. Was decently populated, and with guilds, player housing and stuff, the community was somewhat established. 4. The community was really nice. People were mature at that time, nice to talk to and do stuff with. Some people I met are still friends. Community is definitely the most memorable part of my experience, not the game itself. 5. Something that wasn't a big deal for me, but for many others it was, the anime style appeal. 6. Asobimo, the developer, had past MMO that were very popular in the mobile space, so it carried over a lot of the community by free marketing in their own games. Some of the most popular were: Toram, Avabel, and Iruna. Some are still relevant, even more than this. Toram especially was one of the pioneers of the mobile MMO genre in some parts of the Asia. Game had a lot of issues even at that time, I haven't watched the video yet but I can already tell some of the topics that will be brough up, but In general the game was actually not too bad in the mobile anime MMO game niche. I think it died around 2021-2022, and now mainly just has some old vets or kids.
Tbh it's sad that it kind of died down, I played it around the 2018-2019 era as well and loved it. Tho it did get updated recently in October, but it's just some bug fixing. Might start playing it again just for the memories bc why not. (I loved character customization sm)
I played this a bit too but ONLY for the character customization, even if even I thought the graphics weren't the best I loved just how many options you had lol
And something else thats nice about it in my opinion is having the two characters you can make and be a team. I really wanna find more games with a similar system of making a side character you hang out with
I've tried watching this video twice and literally fell asleep half way through. Twice. I can only imagine how hard it was to actually make it. I'm sorry you had to go through this, Josh.
I remember playing this on mobile few years ago, and iirc that level skip when getting a new job was implemented to appeal for new players. Apparently you can't focus just with one job, you need to take all jobs and level it up to the max to get stat boosts. New players finds it too grindy and ended up leaving the game. That's why every job are skipped to level 50 so new players can just go stronk quickly. I don't play the game anymore but I always found that story quite funny.
It is scaled to current progression, the later tiers of classes actually remain like this, the only skips you get is in the early classes for early game players to be able to catch up to a level where they can do quests and events if they use the stuff they get after creating an account, obviously if you only play it for less than a day while rushing the story all you'd get is steamrolling the game up until the part where the game has made it easier to progress
I do agree with you on this. I lv up every single class in order to get them to max lv for the perm buffs. In fact, the game does have actual strategy once you get to a high enough level. The story does become interesting the further you get into it, and then there is the basement in the tower of time where it will beat you up if you don’t get the strategy right or aren’t strong enough. Yes. The gacha is annoying to do, but the outfits are so cute that I can’t resist using my free gems on the ones I want. Especially for the outfits with a balance of all elemental defense. You can use a katana, and my god. The critical hits from the samurai class, and the strike earrings are powerful. Oh yeah. Josh didn’t mention how the boss battles do have their own earrings. It’s just the strike earrings from Fafnir is amazing.
The music around the 24:00 mark reminds me a LOT about the Temple of Time music loop with the silent choir and soft rythm. It obviously been slightly altered, but is very distinct. I played the temple of time loop in a second tab to see how well it matched up and.. Yeh.
This game helped me through a time when I was so sick that I couldn't even really play games, I could only make cute characters and use auto progression, and it somehow was really good at distracting me from that. But even then I found the loading screens to be unbearable.
Honestly, I’d be interested in reading a story where nobody acknowledges that the main protagonist exists and he’s just been saving people when nobody noticed. “Some strange force stopped the forest fire. It was probably the rain and nobody noticed it.” By the end, you save the world from some interdimensional monster and they’re like “Wow. I wonder how that happened?”
That "temple" music you mentioned sounds vaguely like some of the cloister of trials music from the summoner temples in FFX. Granted, it's been 20 years since I played FFX, but that's definitely the vibe I get from that music.
Yes, it has the same vibes as Hymn of the Fayth from FFX. I actually couldn't actually tell if Josh was just continuing the joke about ripping off FF and asking this rhetorically.
@@NabsterHax Same, but the more I listened to it the more it reminded me something like a Hymn of the Fayth. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that. Lol
Wait people hate the Cloister of Trials. I thought they were pretty fun. apart from the ice temple. Which has the most sadistic placement for a reset button ever.
I feel bad for the game because of Josh's relentless and brutal beatdown in the video, but at the same time, I feel this one may really hold the title of The Worst.
if you feel bad just remember its a gacha game and the sole purpose there is to bleed your wallet dry. what game they dress it up with is irrelevant. they don't care about the players, i promise you, so don't care about them
its finally here guys,Josh is finally exposed to the helish landscapes of gaming we know as "gacha games" and with that this series is finally getting close to its end for the worst of the worst lies here
The temple music. Its like ..... sorta a mix. the parts without the humming are like the starting music in Kingdom Hearts 1 after the cutscene. The humming part then makes me think of FFX and the humming in that game when you go into temples.
Yome in Japanese means "daughter-in-law". Unless the japanese script is equally incomprehensive which could also mean "bride". So it's either that Josh's character offspring got married and his daughter is bringing him on an adventure or that his wife is doing so. I choose to believe it's both true, Josh's son died so he married his daughter-in-law.
Think about it though - it's actually an ethical gacha game. If power level means nothing, and they gave you infinite power so that you never have to grind for it, then theres no incentive for gambling addiction. Smart move. 200 iq. Best game in the universe. 10/10 no improvement needed.
Hey Josh, I'm an advanced Japanese learner and I can understand why a lot of the dialogue is weird, such as repeating previously heard concepts (eg. border pass) as if they'd never been heard of, or NPCs (eg. priest dude) acting like they've never met you before. This is most likely an issue with translation, I'll spare you the details but I can imagine how the Japanese originally sounded, and if my imagination is correct there's a good chance the story is actually coherent (of course, this doesn't mean it's good in Japanese, either, lmao). Not defending anything, just wanted to say that maybe behind everything there's a coherent story that some people might be able to enjoy. Thanks for you videos. Edit: The music at 23:54 is from, or reminiscent of, Final Fantasy X, specifically from the Aeon Temples, you first hear it in the temple on the island where you meet Wakka, IIRC.
True, a lot of subjects are ommitted because they are contextually obvious in the Japanese text, then just left out completely in the English version or the wrong noun was made the subject by mistake. I assume they didn't use a professional localization team for any of the transitions and translation programs make this mistake a lot if they were putting in sentences one at a time. Whatever story is in the original definitely didn't make it to English intact.

This game is making my brain melt. This game is genuinely as incoherent as a dream, though even then I've had dreams with a plot I could follow. I remember one dream I had about a sci-fi horror game my brain cooked up involving vampiric aliens infecting and infesting a ship - that'd be a far better MMO than whatever fever dream, anime-addicted nightmare this crap is.
are u sure u arent just thinking about that old movie called pandorum? plot sire sounds similar to ur dream, an that movie in general felt like it was a fever dream lol
This is definitely the funniest video I've seen from you yet (new sub). This "game" is more of an interactive novel than a true game. Even then, it falls so far short its fallen through the ground and reached the other side of the planet. Perfect place for it tbh.
At least interactive novels don’t waste time and have you run around and fuck with menus in an unfun tedious game, it’s just story. Say what you will about the worst visual novels, at least you know exactly what you are getting
The rant at the beginning was epic. No exaggeration, that was the most eloquently delivered roast of a game I've ever heard, and I've heard many. Almost had me thinking he hired an comedy industry veteran writer with gaming experience, but I guess that's just Hayes for you.
I played this for about 2 days in 2017. The character creation was the most memorable thing. It was made for mobile devices & there's a lot of convoluted & confusing menus & I seem to recall autopathing. It was whiplash of going back & forth between feeling like I had no atonomy while also feeling lost about what to do next.
Not the only one! I made a character, 'played' at least to the church, maybe the potato, found a nice sitting spot on a hill, took a picture of my character, and haven't touched the game since.
>you are a messenger of the game's story to other, more worthy NPCs Okay but actually that sounds like a unique mechanic. You're not the hero, you're just one of many people tasked with delivering the plot to the actual heroes.
Yeah except in this game you're completely blank and is barely in cutscenes, also the story does lead you into that "chosen" hero too going on as well. Honestly I've always loved the idea of living decent life in a fantasy world like these without being the chosen one to defeat the great evil or some crap idk.
this video validated all my feelings about this "game". i don't know how asobimo made a game as good and enjoyable as toram then turned around and made this awful thing. you're crazy for actually going through and playing as much of it as you did
I am unfortunately one of the only people who relatively still play this game-only recently getting to late game territory because of the absurd difficulty spike in material grinding and enemy combat. I liked it because of the character customization, the simple yet pretty graphics, and the "I can leave my phone idle while I'm doing chores but not for mega bosses" gameplay. There's so, so many cutscenes, but the story wasn't all that bad...until you're 80 chapters in and realize you have no resources to level up. Now, I played Toram for a short bit and of course, it's an infinitely better Asobimo title that deserves its ongoing legacy, where my only gripe with it is that I think it has poorer UI translation compared to AlStory, or even Avabel. Regardless, I'm still grateful Josh has finally covered this MMO that has both been the highlight and bane of my late teen existence. It's been pretty much abandoned by Asobimo and I'm sad to see their game I liked most to get dumped after the last 2 years. Might play Toram fully someday...but who knows if I can catch up with the playerbase there. Edit: When I say "Asobimo has abondoned Alchemia Story", I mean that the game has never been improved on significantly in the past 3 years. The most recent update that came out last week finally introduced 2 new chapter for PART 2 of the main storyline. P A R T 2, when there's barely any information on how to even pass late game Part 1, and somehow the AlStory Amino is better help than the wikia. Their latest event has 2 small but fresh maps, which is probably the only highlight for long-time players. This game hasn't been dully abandoned as it's still celebrating anniversaries -- but it sure is desolate and bland for new and returning players.
Honestly though, the game still has its charms because of it's decent character that actually gave them voices that are decent and same with the story, but good god it's a gacha game still. Yeah I'd rather play Toram again than this but good god, I hope for a game as decent as Toram with the charm of Alchemia... Btw I didn't know the game was already abandoned by Asobimo....
Seeing a lot of similarities with Alchemia and Toram's mechanics, I think Josh's review for Toram will mostly be the same if he ever covers it. I've never played Alchemia, but I'm a big fan of Toram. The orbs and gacha mechanic are the same for both games. And tbh, Asobimo likes to dump players into gameplay with minimal tutorials so it won't help much for new players either. Sad to see Alchemia got abandoned though.
I play both Alchemia and Toram and I can say I'm in deep late game in both, playing Toram now is actually not bad because you only need in-game money to buy better equipment/armour and you'll be able to catch up fast, while in AlSto you can't, you need to grind the game 24/7 for a year.
@chaosleviatho879 Very bad opinion, a game should entice you in the first hour, and get you hooked durnig the first 5, he played 10 and hated every minute. This is hardly on the player. What always happens is that kids/teens/young adults have more time to waste and grow to like games with bad design one they show any redeeming qualities. Anyone older hardly has the time to go through this.
@@Melferas Thats cuz he did it in the wrong order. The first hour should be spent in character customization for you and your yome (It really is that deep if you care enough) and then the next five should hook you when you spend every gem and new player bonuses on clothes and accessories, then go to the event to get the free accessories there, and actually make a custom character you like, and not just a random Picasso drawing. The main quest is just a tiny fragment of the game. The real draw is turning a character you like visually into a super strong one mechanically.... and you can spend an infinite amount of time doing that.
@@CaNzCo "The real draw is turning a character you like visually into a super strong one mechanically.... and you can spend an infinite amount of time doing that." This argument falls apart when Josh was able to slap together a character in a very short time and mechanically they were god itself equally with zero effort. The only draw left that you suggested is the character customization, which at that point makes this a dress-up game with RPG mechanics and not really much of a MMO of any decent quality. Remember, it's an *MMO RPG*. If someone trying to play it as such is "doing it in the wrong order" and that they're supposed to have spent all of that time doing character customization and gacha pulls... it's not a very good game, if you ask me
@@EliasSpacer Josh only did the main story which was intentionally made easier so that new players could get the free gacha gems. Trust me, the content gets much harder and there is always room to improve your character. If you search alchemia story, under this video are the two most recent bosses released. They need 7 high level players fully geared and since you are running the boss multiple times, any damage increase leads to better efficiency. I can understand not liking the game, but the main story is such a small part (and coming from the guy that just made a video asking if stories matter in an mmo, I think its a bit harsh to make that his sole focus)
You know an MMO where you create a full party instead of a single character, or at least create a partner, is actually a cool idea and something I've thought should be explored for quite a while. You could do a lot of fun stuff with the story and with the combat and gameplay that way, put a twist on the normal way things are done. I guess I'll have to keep looking if I want a game like that though lol.
@@rexxflash6112 Just fyi, none of the mmos you mentioned have that function. The only mmo that has that function that was a triple a release during its time is Sword of the new world. What you're thinking of is either companions (swtor) you cant really build or change the way they, customization is limited to skins. Or mercernaries (everquest and lotro) gold hired npcs that are just a basic class or whatever and they join your party. Sword of the new world allows you to create any amount of characters and take 3 in-game at anytime.
Granado Espada! I want a modern take on it so badly. The control of 3 characters at the same time was really fun, too bad the game is very outdated at this point.
Shin Megami Tensei Imagine had something kind of like this; you controlled both your customizable hero and a changeable demon partner. Not quite up to the full idea but the spirit's sort of there.
@@Esvald I FUCKING WISH BROTHER. i just downloaded it and deleted it within 5mins. the game was always a chore to play but the three character mechanic was so awesome.
I don't know how to explain it but the moment the battle music played, I felt like I was hearing the battle themes of every good rpg played over each other
Just a quick note. Yome (with a bit different pronunctiation) is Japanese for wife or rather bride. So yeah... Might be interesting to do a top 10 or 5 of the worst (or best) MMOs you've encountered so far. I love that the review complaining abut bad English used "barley" instead of "barely". Classy. Didn't realize it at first because of the way you said it but Maou-chan is basically Sweet Little Demon Lord. Of course they had to have one of those... That fox creature was called Mamono so basically a demon. Although it's a bit broader than the English term usually is. Mushrooms were probably involved in the creation of this "game" too. Probably not the legal kind.
Okay, but the story beat of the priest talking about how important Yuuki and Karen are while totally ignoring you, just to have Karen and Yuuki immediately murdered by the first monster they fight is actually hilariously genius.
If only they stayed dead.
...and the priest as well.
Sounds like a great start for a story. Will they awknowlegde the death of the chosen ones, maybe secretly replace with them. So many options
that would have been funny and comedic genius and as a result it could have never happened in this game

This, ALL OF THIS is so true. It very much felt like a poorly done wannabe self-insert game
This is truly a log of wood/10 game
Oh my god you accidently ended up described Fate/Grand Order to an absolute tee ahahaha
However, due to a mix of super-high defense and health regeneration nothing in the world can meaningfully harm you, and the whole story is just you going from one potential threat to the next hoping they can reduce your HP to zero.

you should try the game, coming from a fan of asomibo games i can tell u this guy didn’t show most of what the game has to offer.
What Josh didn’t mention is how there are mounts in the game. They have their own stats and star lv.

It is pretty different. when it first started the main story was actually pretty tough with most people dying and getting stuck around the abul king fight or the maou chan fights.

The temple music at 23:55 sounds very similar to the song that plays at Kingdom Hearts's Station of Awakening (or Station of Serenity in KH2), the area where Sora awakens his powers and you pick your starting stats, etc
It reminds me more of Final Fantasy X, the hymn of the faith
@@KanePentagramm Yeah saw some people in the comments mentioning that one.

Being able to set your age between -100 and 100 made me laugh. Like, I was wondering if the game was broken enough to let you go as young as 0 years old, then the game exceeds my expectations dramatically.
These kind of random unexpected details are always those that make me laugh the most :D
Imagine how confusing it'll be if you were told to set your age, and then got hit with a 2 axis graph.
You can go as a someone who will be born in 100 years
Imagine the kinds of scenarios the game could have with this.
"I wish I wasn't born..."
"But you aren't, for 81 years in fact."
"I wish I won't be born..."
I genuinely feel bad for the artists on this game. They did a really nice job within the confines of "generic 3D anime" and I genuinely like the monsters even if they did seem to re-use them a ton.
Yeah, it's not bad. I feel like the assets desperately want to be in a better game.
@Bewilderbeestie
Judging by the look on that rabbit warriors face i think you are right....
Or it was a genuine reaction to the 2 main characters. I would probably react the same way if i got approached by a bald girl with pigtails and what seems to be the manifestation of every hairstail sin in human form. 😂😂😂
The art gave me major nostalgia from Dreamcast era. It's unfortunate the game sucks.
"What did I achieve while I wasn't here?" You achieved the best thing of all, Josh! *Not playing Alchemia Story!*
Wrong word. "Playing" supposes there is actual gameplay. No, this is something you just have to suffer through with vague input occasionally.
But you could take friend mercenaries or join and get the merc there also you could just get out of the boss map and change the difficulty
you can use mercenary. mercenary friend and guild is free use and is very help for fight boss in story or leveling.
Toram's hostility is the only thing that makes it cool or fun, though. Admittedly i did stop playing the game pretty early on and several years ago, but this was mainly because i got sick of the bizarre notifications it would send to tell me to keep playing.
So thats why it looks similar to Toram. The characters, menu, even the mid storyline. But this game is just the easier version of Toram.
@monosophy691
Nowadays, if you're part of a guild, you can use a guild mercenary to steamroll through early and mid game main quest. After that, you'll have to ask a high level guild member to help with end game main quest because the AI on the mercenaries are hilariously bad.
'i'd say this game is god-awful but god's not here' is the tactical nuke of criticisms

I never thought alchemia story is that bad. As long as i remember playing the game i feel pretty chill with it, your opinion is eye-opening😂 Also if you can cover alchemia story, i think you can try toram online as well

@@paodebatata6606 Well, it's on PC. Steam, specifically. So yes, it's meant for PC as well as mobile. Because it's specifically accessible on PC too.

Actual player here(almsot 4 years on and off) some points to clarify
1- 20:27 the dungeon you were doing are for materials to either enhance gear(armors and weapons) or skills, each skill has a max level of 100 unless those are supports skills, those are max lv1 by default, people actually grind on dungeons you unluck through completing main quest line.
Still active?

The song at 23:55 reminds me a lot of the music that plays at the stained glass pillar levels in Kingdom Hearts where you get to pick your weapon, lol
YES. was just thinking that. only the beginning though, the KH music doesnt have the building choral parts.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I can actually give insights about why people played this game this one time:
I really wanna find more games with a similar system of making a side character you hang out with
@@FunniNarudyne YEAH! I loved being able to make 2 customized characters and having the second one on your team! It was so fun

27:50 "you are just straight up not in the story anymore"
We are the camera man🤣
I remember playing this on mobile few years ago, and iirc that level skip when getting a new job was implemented to appeal for new players.
Killer intro sass XD
Edit: It wasn't just the intro. Josh threw ALL the punches like a british Star Platinum.
The music around the 24:00 mark reminds me a LOT about the Temple of Time music loop with the silent choir and soft rythm. It obviously been slightly altered, but is very distinct. I played the temple of time loop in a second tab to see how well it matched up and.. Yeh.

@@IDOLL_Dev I've had similar times and I hope you're doing significantly better now, but yes the loading screens were quite torturous

That you didn't make up Duchy of Schlinger as a joke has me shaken to the core.

Smart move.

That derpy rabbit looking directly at you is one of the all time moments in gaming
I made a character, 'played' at least to the church, maybe the potato, found a nice sitting spot on a hill, took a picture of my character, and haven't touched the game since.
>you are a messenger of the game's story to other, more worthy NPCs
Okay but actually that sounds like a unique mechanic. You're not the hero, you're just one of many people tasked with delivering the plot to the actual heroes.
Yeah except in this game you're completely blank and is barely in cutscenes, also the story does lead you into that "chosen" hero too going on as well.
Honestly I've always loved the idea of living decent life in a fantasy world like these without being the chosen one to defeat the great evil or some crap idk.
this video validated all my feelings about this "game". i don't know how asobimo made a game as good and enjoyable as toram then turned around and made this awful thing. you're crazy for actually going through and playing as much of it as you did
Yeah, props to Josh, I never got past the tutorial.
It’s a damn shame as I LOVED toram
As a kid I was obsesed with Toram, my phone could barely run it lol, Im considering going in again now
Too bad the economy in toram is pretty bad nowadays.
But i reached so far in this gane already. LOL
This game actually used to be my favorite mobile MMO back in the day.
@@Mythicalgoon Doesn't Atlantica Online online work like that, with run based combat in which you use a whole party?
Granado Espada!
I want a modern take on it so badly. The control of 3 characters at the same time was really fun, too bad the game is very outdated at this point.
Shin Megami Tensei Imagine had something kind of like this; you controlled both your customizable hero and a changeable demon partner. Not quite up to the full idea but the spirit's sort of there.
@@Esvald I FUCKING WISH BROTHER. i just downloaded it and deleted it within 5mins. the game was always a chore to play but the three character mechanic was so awesome.
I don't know how to explain it but the moment the battle music played, I felt like I was hearing the battle themes of every good rpg played over each other
Ahh I remember playing this game. I felt so releived when I lost all of my progress because it meant I had a valid reason to never play it again.
It is always so wholesome watching your patron list get bigger. Thanks for the awesome content!
