@Canis_Vulpes agreed but not necessarily just being a kind woman playing with a child all the way through. There was a clear threat there. Sharra had dared to offer/demand Aegon accept her hand in marriage AND make Ronnel his heir over any children he'd have with Visenya and Rhaenys to gain their allegiance. It wasn't unknown that Visenya was the chief wife due to age and wedding order and was jealous/protective of her siblings and their marriage. Little Ronnel didn't notice it, but there was a definite you bend the knee now, or I will throw this kid off the top of the mountain for that moment between the women. Now, once that was all done she did fly him around the castle on Vhagar as he wanted, but even there was as much a reminder/warning to stay loyal and in her place to Sharra as granting a little boy's innocent request. Either way, Visenya's dual strategy was a great success. She firmly had Sharra's loyalty through fear and Ronnel's through love.

Since the death of the dragons the Vale should have bolstered their villages and increased their population so they could have been serious contenders to secede and become a kingdom again. However a castle like the eyrie has its problems even without dragons. Military ration routes could be raided leaving the castle to starve during a full siege. The Vale would need alliances of neighboring lords and bannermen in order to survive that ordeal.
@dv9239 The issue with that is simply because of the routes that need to be taken to the Eyrie.
