- Swimming with wild dolphins was such a memorable experience. Each time I watch this video, I have a hard time comprehending that the woman swimming beside this pod of dolphins is actually me. A dream come true, for those of you who know me. Before travelling to Hawaii, I'd never swam with wild dolphins, and had only seen them up close a handful of times. This is the only way I'll interact with them, ever again. Swimming beside them as they squeak, play, sleep (seriously, they have the ability to shut off half their brain in order to rest), display their acrobatic talents and affectionately interact with the members of their family pod. There were even a few that swam within reach to get a good look at me. No need to touch them, though (I'll never understand the incessant need to touch and disturb wildlife...). It was so much more than enough to simply be in their presence... the presence of beauty, grace and undeniable intelligence.
A HUGE bucket list check mark for me, and memories I'll surely hold close for the rest of my life!

Loved this video! I remember the first time I swam with dolphins in the Dominican Republic! It was magical but it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I got extremely sick from the salt water 😢

This is off the coast of Kona! This was a day trip with did ourselves... a friend of ours took us out on his boat and we were lucky enough to swim alongside these beautiful animals!

Omggg what an amazing experience!!!😍 Do you have to be a professional / licensed scuba diver to swim with dolphins?
Not at all! This was simply free diving/ snorkelling alongside them. As long as you're comfortable swimming in open water, that's all you need to be able to do! We went out with a friend who had a boat, but generally you'd just book through a tour-guide.

Hey! This was back in early March of 2019. We were out on the boat pretty early. From what I hear, this pod spends a lot of their day swimming back and forth along the Kona Coast. However, I would make sure you look into it in detail... I believe restrictions were put in place over he last few years about proximity to the dolphins. I'm sure the local tour agencies will have the info. Hope you have a wonderful trip! Are you a scuba diver? If so, make sure to look into the "Manta Night Dive". One of the best dives in the world. I have a video of it as well. Awesome experience!
