Man, I needed this. Monster Madness was a tradition for me every year as a kid. Getting up every day of October, watching the new MM before school. Building excitement for Halloween. With so much of what makes this time of year great being gone this year, I really appreciate this.
I know what you mean. In one of the channels I follow I was wondering why the guy was uploading so many spooky games videos (I had not seen the videos and they were just piling up) and then I realized it's because it's October.
Nowadays that you can't tell one day from the other I didn't even realized October had come since there was no Monster Madness.

How was Cabin in the Woods not discussed! Thought it would have been right up your alley as a throwback to more classic horror.
The whole movie is a send up to the classics. A missed opportunity. Hopefully its in the works.
It was probably just an oversight on their part. Man, it's such a cool callback to classic horror. I'd love to hear them talk about it.
Excellent point...
That would have been my pick for the 2010s. Get Out and It Follows would have been close.
garbage movie for teenagers...
The way you say King Kong has horror elements, I always felt the same way with Jurassic Park. I feel like few people call it horror, but dinosaurs eating people terrified me as a kid.
Jurassic park is a horror movie disguised as a family adventure film.
I watched it all the time as a kid no problem but now it just gives me anxiety lol
The Steven Spielberg whimsical nature is why a movie about people being hunted down by dangerous predators feels like a family film.
_Jurassic Park_ is in what I'd call the "family horror" genre, like _Poltergeist._ Yes, it has horrific scenes, but there's an overall lack of overt blood & gore in the deaths that sanitizes them for family viewing. That, and the fact that the children in the original, while terrorized at times, come out unscathed at the end.
Galantski a movie doesn’t need to have blood and gore to be scary. Poltergeist is a scary movie with creepy visuals.
I always liked James but after he picked Evil Dead 2 during the 80s segment, he's reached an all time high for me! The Evil Dead Series is my favorite from the horror genre and I actually met Bruce Campbell at one of his book signings in 2005. He was a really nice guy and his autobiography is great!
Got you beat, he's a distant relative of mine through his mother, I have a lot of family that is around the area of Michigan that he came from and his mom has the right last name, so I'm almost positive that we're some kind of relation

-1990: In the mouth of darkness

I havent watched all the way thru yet but the 60s has got to be Night Of The Living Dead. I mean its groundbreaking. Social commentary masked in horror. Not to mention the gore effects at the time and the fact that the movie changed the way zombies were portrayed till this day.

imo:
1910's - The Golem
1920's - Nosferatu
1930's - King Kong
1940's - The Wolf Man
1950's - Hmm, I wanna put Godzilla but War of the Worlds is also one of my all-time favorites.
1960's - Night of the Living Dead.
1970's - Alien
1980's - Hmm, another tough one. I'm thinking Evil Dead 2 or John Carpenter's the Thing.
1990's - Misery

I could have sworn the was a scooby doo nerd episode.

1930's, the freaks is a underrated movie . That movie was legit creepy .
To me, movies are like food.... favorites change all the time.
Most of those movies are worth a watch at least once. Thats for sure, the top ones even more.
The editing thing btw is so true. When i make a video of something, i often learn many tiny details about the games that i play. I guess the same goes for movies. Because you often have to rewatch the same thing over and over again, and eventually you notice something new about it. Its kind of like watching a movie for the second time.

10s: The Cabin In The Woods

Nice list. For me, the 10s is The Guest. I don't know if not a lot of people have seen it or they just don't like it, but no one seems to talk about it.
A 80s horror film that gets overlooked a lot is "Night Of The Demons". Kinda low budget but I really loved the movie and it's iconic deeped voiced demons. The movie had a few sequels but I haven't seen them. If you've never heard of it then it's worth a watch
I assume the 1988 movie
I wonder if they've seen The Witch or The Lighthouse yet.
Or midsommar
The Witch is a disturbing, not scary movie. The Lighthouse is a disgusting, and bad movie, imo.
I was about to post this exact comment! No mention of these great Robert Eggers' films.
The are much more mainstream and those movies border on arthouse so it's not really their thing.
The Witch is great, the lighthouse is okay. You will either love it or not. It’s not scary though, I’ll say that.

Over the many years of watching Cinemassacre/AVGN there was a point in time where Mikes screen vocal presence started to increase and I remember thinking - without sounding harsh - that this really wasn't something I wanted to see on this channel. But years later when Mike left and I started seeing new people appear on this channel being even more vocal, I regretted wishing this. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not really invested with many of the new crew. I miss Mike. More than I ever thought I would.
My all time favorite from the 80s is "House" with William Katt, etc. Its an underrated horror film.

Katt Williams
@@hammiranda Its not Katt Williams. Its William Katt. Two totally different people.
@@crimsonstorm34 I see.
Best 80's movie period!!
John Carpenters - The Thing
To this day I still feel that 70s horror is my favorite, mostly because the horror movies during that time are a bit more experimental and varied, its really hard for me to categorize all of them into one area as they all have different styles and tones that make them unique from each other. They can range from movies that have a dream-like quality to them with their music and atmosphere such as Suspiria and the 70s remake of Nosferatu or they can focus on a lower budget to give it its own creepy flair. Movies such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, Alice Sweet Alice, and Tourist Trap have this interesting "grimy" feel to them that can be only be done with that style of filmmaking.
And that is the beauty of that era of horror, while the 60s are more associated with "Sci-fi B-movie" and the 80s are more focused on gore heavy slashers, the 70s on the other hand was a time in which there was really no set formula in making a horror movie, so as a result you see different directors show their own unique twist to the genre.
The 70's was just one of the great decades of film-making, no doubt.
70s and 80s hard to pick got too commercial afterwards
Well actually the 50s are associated with "Sci-fi B-movie" The 60s were mostly about gothic horror
Ivan S. You are right, mainly with the Hammer films. Sorry, whenever I think of the 60s mostly sci fi films and even kaiju films for some reason even though it was much more common in the 50s.
I get how the 80s is slasher heavy, but it is the monster movies from the 80s that really did it for me. It was the peak, yet seemingly the end, of creature effects whether it be makeup, prosthetics, puppetry, etc. The 70s were a great lead up to that as well. Those are definitely my two favorite decades of horror.
My list would look like this:
20th: Nosferatu
30th: Frankenstein
40th: I Walked With a Zombie
50th: The Blob
60th: The Haunting
70th: The Dunwich Horror
80th: Evil Dead II
90th: In The Mouth Of Madness
2000: The Mist
10er: The Void
30s is so difficult. It's either The Old Dark House or Bride of Frankenstein for me, but the original Frankenstein has such strong old charm as well.

@@blackfox1320 sorry there’s no new avengers flicks coming out
I can't believe how happy it made me feel seeing Mike and James together again.
Great stuff. Monster Madness has been such a great introduction to horror movies, always love to see you guys talking about em.
Picked costumes with built in facemasks... perfect!
I really enjoyed this one! When it comes to Halloween, I need James to talk horror for me! Hope you got more to share this year man!
Alien is so awesome.
Dropping ice puns while wearing a Sub-Zero costume. Classic.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for
I learned a lot from watching reviews about movies, as some people pick up on stuff I didn't and vise versa
Too bad.
This Halloween I'm staying home. I was gonna be a ninja wizard.
lol
Love those Monster Madness vids! The whole playlist is an annual October watch for me. Keep it up James!
The masked voices really fit the characters, bravo!
The background is giving me straight 2004 Runescape vids. Great vid as always!
nah man alien was so creative and great and looks amazing to this day. Alien is one of the best movies ever made.
That's the only friend of James that I enjoy listening to. Fantastic video guys, cheers!
The Lighthouse is my pick for favorite movie of 2010s just seeing it once just entranced me to the point that I feel its now my favorite movie ever
That's funny, because that's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Monster Madness has been such a tradition of mine, thanks for getting something out for it.
Monster Madness is back! Yes!
This was a great monster madness!!! Thank you guys for giving us an amazing Halloween treat!
I never realized how few 1940's horror movies I've seen until watching this video.
Start watching Svengoolie on METV. Every Saturday at 8pm. He does a lot of movies from 30's, 40's, 50's etc.
I'm glad you guys give the Spanish Dracula it's moment to shine since a lot of ppl don't even know it exists, which is sad... But, im glad i have both to enjoy... Gran canal y los miro desde hace 10 años saludos par de locos.
But the actors overact in that version. I can't watch Villarias playing Dracula with those overreacting face expressions. It's so out of place and it makes his version of Dracula funny rather than scary or at least respectable.
Hopefully Robert Eggers gets to make his version of Nosferatu
Is that actually a thing?
It would be awesome if Willem Dafoe got to play Nosferatu, again.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 At least at some point, Doug Jones was picked for the part.
That vampire make-up test looked awful though.
Sub-Zero wearing a wedding ring and glasses chatting with The Shredder with skulls in the background is downright hilarious!
House on Haunted Hill isn't just my favorite Horror movie from the 50's, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I wish it would receive more love. I never hear anybody really talk about it. When I mention that it's my favorite, people think the horrible remake.
Please do another horror related video this October. I am currently watching a horror movie every day of the month inspired by Monster Madness. So thank you!
Fright Night in the 80's for me
It's a tie between Poltergeist and Christine.
Fright Night is fantastic, really underrated. I couldn't decide between Poltergeist and The Thing.
Ahh man, You mentioned the Thing...That's up there as well @@graceonthewater
sure, thx for the info
@kyfkufkufc Agreed! They did miss them!
