    Good video! And the rape scene from 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed' WAS shoehorned in at the last minute. According to a Filmfax interview with Veronica Carlson, she, Fisher, and Cushing hated it but had no choice in the matter. Fisher hated it so much, he didn't finish it--there was supposed to be a couple more set-ups to do, but at one point he just yelled "CUT! I can't stand it anymore!" and left the set.

    The Hammer Frankenstein series had some distinct differences from the Universal series. To begin with, the Universal series kept bringing the Monster back, to be tinkered with by a new mad scientist (only exception: Bride of F), while the Hammer series essentially brought back the doctor (Peter Cushing) to build a new Monster which is destroyed at the end of the movie. In most of the Universal entries the mad doctor only wanted to prove his theories, thereby (incidentally) gaining fame and fortune, in the Hammer series the doctor split his motivations between that and revenge on people who had purportedly persecuted him previous to that movie. Altho the novel (actually BOTH novels) of the Frankenstein story were long in public domain, the bolt-in-the-neck makeup of the Universal franchise was copyrighted so Hammer had to work up boltless makeup for its Monsters.

    • @jackhamilton9604
      @jackhamilton9604 2 роки тому

      Bride of Frankenstein had Dr Pretorius, really I’d say the only Universal Frankenstein film that didn’t have the Monster tampered with by another Mad Scientist was Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein, instead he was tampered by Dracula who had assistance from a mad scientist

    This is a cool video but I disagree with James. I don't see Doctor Frankenstein as an anti-hero in any way, shape or form. He's a straight up villain. A psychopath willing to do and destroy anything and anyone in his way to achieve his twisted goals. He's a great character, fascinating and memorable, but still a villain.

    There was also an anime based on the story of Frankenstein that was made in 1981. It was called "The Monster of Frankenstein". And its very faithful to the original novel. You should see it sometime, James. And I'm surprised you didn't mention the 1994 movie that starred Robert DeNiro as the monster.
